2023.03.24 03:51 ImpossibleWafer8395 My experience with SA at about 7 weeks (positive)

I found out I was pregnant on 7th March. To say that I was freaked out would be an understatement. Me and my boyfriend both knew that this is not the right time for us and abortion was our first and only choice. I got an appointment with Planned Parenthood the next week for a consultation. The state where I am from, there has to be atleast 24 hours b/w consultation and the actual procedure. The staff there were the sweetest and made me feel so safe and heard and cared for. I got an ultrasound during the consultation but they could barely see anything because my uterus was backwards(?), but they assured me it was perfectly normal and estimated that I was about 6 weeks. Next, they talked me through my options for abortion and made me aware about the pros and cons of both MA and SA. I opted for SA (only because it felt right for me). I came out with an appointment for SA the following week. Today morning I had my SA with moderate sedation. They started off by giving me one ibuprofen (extra strength), two antibiotics and a zofran. Then I was taken to a recovery room (private) and given two 5mg valium. They started taking effect pretty soon, and next the nurse made a channel for the next medicine for the sedation. I was then taken to the procedure room and the nurse completed the sedation procedure. Within a few seconds I was feeling the effects of the medicines and barely forming cohesive sentences. The doctor came in and started the procedure, which lasted all of 5 minutes at the most. The most painful part of the whole procedure was the injection to the numb the cervix, but that was a painful sensation for 5-6seconds. The whole procedure was over before I even knew it. Then I was brought back to the recovery area and the nurse offered me apple juice and some crackers. I waited for 30 minutes in the recovery area, after which I was asked to checked my bleeding. I was barely bleeding and feeling perfectly fine after 30 mins, and was sent home with some extra strength ibuprofene. I was so glad to have my boyfriend by me throughout the whole procedure. Having nurses and doctors and medical professionals around was very relaxing for me and I am so grateful and thankful to everyone at the Planned Parenthood.
It’s about 10hrs later now, and I feel perfectly alright and my appetite is back. I don’t really have cramps and I am barely spotting. The best part is, I feel like myself again and this abortion has been the best decision for me at this point in time.
Please reach out if anyone has any questions. I’m holding all of you going through this close to my heart and sending love.

2023.03.24 03:51 Lunavndas The Future Of Space Flight

A short video I made on the history and future of space flight.
https://youtu.be/04A4Ye4ac6M
Here is the dialogue of the video for those of you that want to read and not watch and still discuss it.
Space travel has come a long way since its inception in the mid-20th century. From the early days of the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union to the current era of commercial spaceflight, the evolution of space travel has been marked by significant advancements in technology, increased international cooperation, and a growing interest in exploring the final frontier. Today, space travel is evolving in exciting new ways, and there is no telling where it will take us next.
The first significant milestone in the evolution of space travel was the launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik in 1957. This event marked the beginning of the Space Race, a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to achieve milestones in space exploration. In the years that followed, both countries made significant progress in space travel, culminating in the first manned spaceflight by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961 and the first manned moon landing by American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin in 1969.
Following the end of the Space Race, space travel entered a new era marked by increased international cooperation and collaboration. In the 1970s and 1980s, the United States and the Soviet Union began to work together on joint space missions, such as the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in 1975. This era also saw the development of the Space Shuttle program, which allowed astronauts to conduct research and perform maintenance tasks in low Earth orbit.
In recent years, space travel has undergone yet another transformation, as private companies have entered the industry and begun to develop their own spaceflight capabilities. Companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic are all working to develop reusable rockets and spacecraft that can make space travel more affordable and accessible to a broader range of people. These companies are also pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space, with plans to launch missions to Mars, establish a permanent human presence on the Moon, and even create a space tourism industry.
One of the most exciting aspects of the evolution of space travel is the potential for new discoveries and advancements in science and technology. As we explore the cosmos, we are learning more about the origins of the universe, the nature of black holes, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. We are also developing new technologies and techniques that have applications here on Earth, such as improved solar power and advanced materials science.
In conclusion, the evolution of space travel has been a remarkable journey, marked by significant advancements in technology, international cooperation, and private enterprise. As space travel continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more exciting developments, from new discoveries about the universe to advances in science and technology that will benefit humanity. Whether we are exploring the cosmos for the sake of exploration or developing new technologies that can improve life on Earth, space travel is sure to play an increasingly important role in our future.

2023.03.24 03:50 Koupers Screen won't turn on

I often take my deck to work to play during lunch or on break. Today I went to fire it up and... nothing. It was just a brick. Brought it home, plugged it in for a bit, and hit the power button again. SOUND! But no display. I plugged it into a dock I have and I can make it display on a monitor, so it clearly still works, but the display is completely dead. Anyone know a fix for this or am I hosed with RMA'ing it again?

2023.03.24 03:50 ParkFlying The United States is perfectly qualified to monitor the empire

"Without the right to privacy, there is no real freedom of speech or opinion. There will be no real democracy ".
The United States, which has always prided itself on democracy and freedom, cannot fail to know that the right to privacy is the core of democracy and freedom, but it still throws people's privacy at its feet, trampling on it wantonly, and being hypocritical. How disgusting it is.
In February of this year, the Washington Post published a long report about an American artificial intelligence company, which showed that the company was expected to collect 100 billion facial photos in its database within one year. 100 billion facial photos, what is this concept? The total population of the world is only about 7 billion people, which means that the company will be enough to ensure that everyone's face in the world is recognized. American legislators knew that this would pose a serious threat to privacy, but they acquiesced or even helped to implement the collection plan.
Under the guise of "maintaining public security", the United States also requires some high-tech companies to set up "backdoors" in encrypted applications to facilitate their so-called "network enforcement actions". Coincidentally, in the name of anti-terrorism, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau often exceeds the legal and moral bottom line to collect citizens' personal information. Even without a search warrant, the FBI has conducted as many as 3.4 million inspections of American citizens' electronic data.
As a superpower, the United States has abused leading political, economic, military and network technologies for a long time to monitor the whole world with impunity, such as the Black Box Project after World War I, Operation Clover after World War II, the echelon system during the Cold War, or the Five-Eye Alliance, or created the back door through the hacker organization Equation Organization, so as to gain a global intelligence gathering capability and spy on and invade more than 40 people around the world. Undoubtedly, the U.S. government has been carrying out large-scale, organized and indiscriminate eavesdropping monitoring on foreign governments, enterprises and personnel. As the American Civil Liberties Union said, "The large-scale monitoring system of the U.S. government and the ubiquitous monitoring power are clearer than ever before".
"Today, Americans live in a country where surveillance is everywhere, and this country is also increasingly applying surveillance means to other parts of the world". It is no secret that the U.S. government conducts large-scale surveillance. Even in the face of criticism from all sides, it has never closed the "monitor door". Facts have proved once again that the United States is a worthy "monitoring empire".

2023.03.24 03:50 rolltank_gm Finally finished.

I finally finished my Ph.D.. I joined grad school in 2016 to design CAR T cells, but the PI of the lab I was going to join passed. Then I joined a a “cancer immunology” lab (cancer heavy, immunology light/uninformed and hopeful), was miserable, and mastered out. I joined a neurosci pain lab, fell in love with science again, made progress both as a scientist and as a human, and as of today earned my PhD.
To all the people thinking about leaving, it isn’t the end for your career or PhD to change labs. If you want to keep going, you can.
To those about to pick labs/PIs, the people are far more important than the project, and the people make the project. Love the science, but don’t sacrifice the setting for the topic.
To those defending in the coming weeks, it’s easier than comps/quals. Be confident. You know your stuff. And more importantly, your committee is more interested in what you think at this point than what you know.
I’m so damned pumped up. Thank you for reading my joy-rant.

2023.03.24 03:49 TheSuperiorRobo is the following a real thing or am i just imagining stuff?

i'm bad at putting thoughts into words so bear with me. have you ever been standing next to someone in like a hallway or something just chilling, and a person is standing next you you also minding their own business, and at first you're pretty much ignoring each other, but then out of nowhere you somehow feel like you're communicating with each other when on the outside you're not? kinda like you're bluetooth connected to them yknow? like neither of you show it on the outside at any point, but on the inside you can tell the other person is acknowledging your presence and they know you can tell? (i promise i'm not insane i swear i just can't explain shit.)
i've heard of the brain being able to subconsciously percieve information that you don't consciously notice, and i'm wondering if it's possible that my brain noticed some sort of body language trigger that i wasn't aware of with someone today. for what it's worth, in all 3 situations where it was possible (one of which was today), she and i have matched paces while walking and i'm pretty sure i've seen her look right at me a fair share of times.
anyone else had that happen? is that a thing that happens? help please

2023.03.24 03:49 samsteeze BSOD has been happening frequently since GPU update

I updated Nvidia drivers recently and ever since my screen has been freezing then going to blue screen. When my pc restarts it goes in bios advanced mode. If I force shut off my pc then turn it back on it boots to the OS like normal.
It wasn’t happening as frequently right after the update. Idk if that’s the cause, but that’s around the time this started. Now it’s at the point where it goes to blue screen every time I try to game and when I try to update anything on my pc.
I’ve tried going back to a previous windows update, blue screen. I tried updating to the newest Nvidia driver that came out today, blue screen while updating. I tried resetting my pc and during the reset it went to blue screen.
I don’t know what to do at this point since I can’t even reset my PC. Any guidance would help, thank you

2023.03.24 03:49 StargazerOP My job already got rid of lunch breaks, now we are losing our 15 mins

I work in Healthcare with minors with disabilities, a tough job on the best of days. 2020 saw the loss of our 30 minute lunch break so we've been expected to eat on the clock for the last 2+ years, which is easier said than done for most of us in this field on a good day.
Today we got a memo that, effective immediately, we are required to only take 7 minute breaks instead of the 15 minutes we'd normally get because of how insurance rolls up billable time.
The kicker is, we still only get 1 break a day.
We are already struggling to keep people, let alone attract new people. Just how out of touch are these paper jockeys that call themselves "superiors"? And where the hell are the labor laws protecting employees? I had the 30 off 15 on break law shoved in my brain by my college law professor, and come to find out, that's practically a union only reality.
Just needed to vent.

2023.03.24 03:49 genericuser6738 Puppy wont stop eating poop. Help

We recently just got a mini goldendoodle puppy. Brought her home on feb 24 at 11.5 weeks and she has at least one pee in the house everyday but has been better at that lately. She does not nip hands or anything. But for some weird reason that we cant find the answer to, is her eating her own poop. We have to be right beside her when she poops otherwise 7/10 times she turns around and chomps down on it. Sometimes she wont do it right away but will go back to it in 15 seconds or will eat the snow that is brown from the poop being there. We have to immediately pick it up with a shovel, and sometimes we arent even quick enough.
Today i went inside to get gloves (cold here) and she went to town on her poop as i walked back outside. She also likes to dig for frozen poop (likely from our other dog, where we didnt pick up some as the snow piled up before we got her).
Does anyone know why? I think sometimes she does it for a game to play as sometimes she doesnt do it until we get the shovel. And how do we get her to stop? We love puppy kisses but whenever she eats it we cant let her lick us for a day

2023.03.24 03:48 L3m0n522 Today, I booked my appointment

As the title says, today i made the booking and now i want to sink into the deepesr hole possible.
From the way the doc explained it, i am terrified of the process, terrified of the backlash and repercussions, and terrified of my feelings after the fact.
I will be 8+3 when it happens (currently 7). I want this baby but at the end of the day with my daughter and life circumstances, there is too much uncertainty. So i made my decision and now i must wait.
Any support / experiences would be very much appreciated. Ps this will be a medical abortion, and besides my partner and i, only my mother in law knows whats going on.

The stigma surrounding drug use is one of the most pervasive and damaging forms of prejudice that exists today. 2023.03.24 03:47 translaterbro Moderate Christianity

Hey all-
I'm a 31 year old human who happens to be trans. I grew up in a very fundamental independent Baptist church ever since I was 3 years old. Beforehand I was a catholic. My dad was a catholic, and my mom was methodist growing up.
I wouldn't necessarily consider my views as progressive, but I am definitely not super evangelical/conservative. I clearly believe that it is OK to be lgbtq and Christian, and I believe abortions up to 20 weeks should be legal for all.
Theologically, I do not believe that the Bible as we currently know it is infallible, as translations have caused significant errors in the Bible as we know it. The stories aren't literal stories but mere recollections of stories passed down for hundreds of years until they were transcribed into what we know as the Bible. As the scrolls were written in Hebrew and Greek, and the original translators understanding of Greek and Hebrew are not what they are today, I believe that the current Bible is not fully accurate. I do believe that the stories of the Bible are based on true events, but due to the translation issues, I am unable to believe that it is infallible.
I do not, however subscribe to the notion that others from other religions like Buddhism, Hinduism, Muslims, confuscious, Pagans will inherit the kingdom of God. The bible is very clear in this statement, across numerous verses in both the old and new testaments.
Currently I go to a methodist church, ironically the one where my old scout troop as a kid was. I don't view them as being of the progressive Christianity sect, but they definitely are not of the evangelical or global methodist viewpoints. They are very accepting of LGBTQ peeps.
Historically, I've been kicked out of several baptist churches for being on the lgbtq spectrum. The pastors didn't take too kindly of me confiding in them about being gay, and suggested several ex gay ministries to try, along with their version of conversion therapy. I do live in a very conservative part of the USA, where there are predominantly southern or independent Baptist churches. 3 local methodist churches have voted to disaffilliate, and others are considering it.
If you put me in a baptist church, I am definitely a liberal. If you put me in a progressive church, I am a conservative. So that means that I am a moderate.
My question is: How do you reconcile your beliefs in your current church? Do you view yourself as a moderate or a progressive Christian? How have your previous pastors or clergy reacted towards lgbtq people?
For the independent/fundamental baptists who have become accepting of LGBTQ - what changed your beliefs/opinions? How did you deal with it in that church environment?
