For hours and hours he would play on his flute which was made of cedar wood. Sometimes he would stop and sing, as if he was talking to someone. He learned, while a small boy, a secret of the medicine men, which came to him while playing the flute. It was this: "All are possessed of certain influences, although they may not know it. Some derive their power from one source and some from another. When we know in what way we are strong and from where we get that power, all we need then is firmness and bravery to succeed. If we fail, it is not because our Guardian Spirit is not faithful, but because we listen to voices of our enemies and not to our own Guardian Spirit who would lead us aright." Wa-Sha-Xnend's guardian spirit came from the water Manitou, and by the use of his flute he could summon this Guardian Spirit to him, and receive from him great power, which he could use to influence both man and beast. So great was his power, that many times all he had to do was desire a thing done and his Guardian Spirit would bring it about. When he was old enough to be called a man, he had acquired a great deal of fame as a hunter, and to some extent was considered a conjuror or Medicine man, for the people felt that they were drawn to him by some unknown power. The women of the tribe especially, were very partial to him, and spoke his praises everywhere. This made the old Medicine men very angry and the young hunters and warriors jealous, so the Medicine men began to contrive some way to get get rid of him by means of conjury, which was often done in those days, when they wanted to kill a person without anyone knowing of it, but all their means failed. When the Medicine men saw that their conjury failed, they next went to the Sachem and told him of the great powers that Wa-Sha-Xnend possessed, but did not tell the Sachen that they had tried to kill him. The Sachem went to see Wa-Sha-Xnend but did not find him at home, but saw his mother instead, who was a very old woman. The Sachem told her he wanted Wa-Sha-Xnend to marry one of his daughters. The old lady was pleased, for the Sachem was rich and had some very pretty daughters, so she said that she would tell her son when he came home from hunting. When Wa-Sha-Xnend came home his mother, with joyful face, told him of the Sachem's visit and what he said. Wa-Sha-Xnend laughed and said: "Mother, they only want to kill me; they have been trying to do this for some time." The old lady was very sad, but went and told the Sachem that her son refused to marry his daughter. This made the Sachem very angry, and he said to the old lady: "Wa-Sha-Xnend will never marry anyone then." The old lady went home crying, and told her son of the Sachem's threats. Wa-Sha-Xnend admitted that his life was in danger, and told his mother that if he should be killed, to tie his flute to his wrist and then throw his body into the river, so his Guardian Spirit, who lived in the water, would care for him, and under no circumstances to let his body be buried, which the people will certainly want to do. The Sachem called together his braves and Medicine men and told them of his wrath against Wa-Sh-Xnend and that he wanted him gotten out of the way. Then they told the Sachem that they had tried all means of cojury they knew, but could not kill him, that Wa-Sha-Xnend was brave and watchful, and it would be dangerous to try to kill him, besides he was very popular, and his friends would avenge his murder. While they were trying to solve the problem, a woman came to the Sachem and told him she could kill him if they would wait until a certain time. The woman was a very untidy, good-for-nothing woman, who lived alone and was believed to be a witch, so the Sachem agreed to let her try. All this time Wa-Sha-Xnend knew what was going on, but he knew too that the water Manitou had greater powers than the evil Manitou, who guarded the witch, and that he was brave and steadfast enough to overcome his enemies in the end, for malice cannot conquer right if we will bravely stand up for right ourselves. Wa-Sha-Xnend told his mother that the witch was going to succeed in in getting him out of the way, and that she must do as he told her to do with his body; she must not lose courage or hesitate at all. The next morning when Wa-Sha-Xnend's mother went to wake him, he was dead. Very soon after, the Sachem came to see him, for the witch had told him he would be dead, and when he heard that Wa-Sha-Xnend was dead, he seemed very surprised and greived and offered to give Wa-Sha-Xnend a magnificent funeral and himself would furnish the burial dress, as he was a great hunter, and besides was well loved by the people. But Wa-Sha-Xnend's mother said she did not want honors shown for her son, for she believed him to be killed, and therefore should be treated as one who was killed--simply thrown away. So she tied his flute to his wrist, took him by the feet, dragged him to the river and threw him in. The Sachem was very much astonished at this action of the mother and he could not drive away the vision of that sight. The man he had caused to be murdered, dragged to the river by the frantic mother, and thrown away as one would a dog. He wondered why he had murdered him when he had not done him nor anyone else any harm. Six days after this, the old lady heard the music of Wa-Sha-Xnend's flute, and she shouthed for joy, for after all her son was not dead, but had been away with the water Manitou, who lived in a great cave, the entrance of which was known to Wa-Sha-Xnend alone, and could only be found by diving in the water. He told his mother that he was very glad she was faithful to his charge, for had she not done so, she would never have seen him again. Wa-Sha-Xnend lived with the Delawares a long, long time after this and had many firends, and no one dared to try to do him harm. But the Sachem and the witch woman soon died, for they never could drive away the horrible vision of his death. All should remember their fate and never seek to do those harm who have done you no wrong, for even though you may succeed for a while (by the help of the Evil Manitou), your own spirit will weaken at last and you will suffer the most in the end. I'm 46 and I have a lot of mental health problems. This whole year and last, I've been in and out the hospital almost 3 times every month. There's been times I've been close to dying. My mom, dad, and sometimes brother would take me to the doctor. The eventually got tired of taking me all the time because it cut into their time of work and other things they had to do. I can't drive myself to the hospital everyday cause I lost my car. And I have no other way of getting to the hospital. One time my brother told me he was tired of dealing with this and to give up and die. It was said in a text. 2 weeks ago, I was sent to the hospital and literally unconscious and I could have died. That time at the hospital my whole family were there in the room. When they saw I was going to survive this they were not happy. They were though dealing with this and told the doctor they want me gone. He tied me up in the bed and took me to a van.
He took me to a funeral home and to the cremation. He put me in and my family was there just watching. I burned and turned into ashes and was put in a box. They were so disrespectful to my remains, they just threw it in the trash. They were happy I was gone.

This is not simple π at all
But, 4 years ago my stepsons mom passed away unexpectedly. We took him to the funeral, and he wanted to spend the weekend with his brothers/aunts/grandparents, so of course, we said yes
They took that as an opportunity to kidnap him legally via a family friend, they took him across state lines, filed ex parteparted (emergency) custody. Took us a year, a dozen trips to court (2 states away) to get him back (no, they werent punished, they were heroes)
End result : grandpa and the family friend were each given a weekend a month plus phone calls. The friend dropped off and never popped up again. Grandpa had a few visits, then step son disclosed abuse that grandpa knew about and still let that teen babysit. We had a whole investigation launched, made sure his trauma therapist, knew about it to help him work through it.
Fast forward, investigation finds it founded and an additional court order us created banning this person from being around for visits. Visits resume, then covid hits, and it has a horrible effect on stepson, he ended up having a mental break, attempting to unalive himself and ended up in a mebntalmental hospital, then a treatment facility until now (2.5 years) for the first year, we had him placed at a facility 5 miles from grandpa, so he could visit. He never did. He called and demanded release for off campus visits. He did call to talk to stepson, but only to meddle in his mental health, all he would talk about is how horrible his dad and iI are, and court orders, and how he could get him out of that prison. Definitely not a prison, he needed the help, he is so much better for it.
Now stepson, has finally gotten to a great place mentally and is ready to come home. We have been planning a move to Texas for almost a year - and keeping him in his facility until he was ready. Our move date is in less than 60 days. At this point grandpa has not reached out, visited, sent a birthday card, or called us for a status check.
If we move, what are the chances that Texas will enforce this court order for a weekend a month, from an east coast state. Because that is a long way, and while we are not super limited financially, we cannot make a drive or plane trip for an unaccompanied minor every month happen. Step son has not asked or mentioned grandpa in almost a year, after he promised to visit and never came.
Tldr: will texas enforce a grandparent visit, for a grandparent who has not reached out in almost a year, from another state. And neither party lives or has ever lived in the state that signed this order

So here's my situation. My Dad (65) recently passed away after being in the hospital with pneumonia for a couple of months. Since the beginning of this year he's had a friend living in the same retirement community as him helping him out, by buying groceries, using his car and using my both of my Dad's debit and credit cards.
Last month my Dad was at home by himself and he had a respritory attack in which he couldn't breathe, so he called 911 and was admitted to the hospital.
After a few days at the hospital they put him in a pulmonary therapy clinic for a month, his friend, to my knowledge, was still running errands for him at this point and was still helping him anyway he could.
After about 33 days at the clinic I guess my Dad was not feeling like he was getting the help he needed. So his buddy picked him up from the therapy, after my Dad released himself, and took him home.
They were there for maybe 3 to 4 hours, before his buddy went to his house to get something, and then came back saw my Dad slumped over barely breathing. He tried to help him any way he could but he couldn't, so they had to call EMS to come pick him up and take him back to the hospital.
Since then he's basically been in the ICU for 3 weeks or more, during which time he was heavily sedated and intubated; only being able to communicate comprehensively for about 1 or 2 days at most.
Eventually, my Dad passed away, and we came to find out that this guy has had my Dad's debit card for the last three weeks he was in the ICU, so we went to his house and he gave us the debit card back and my Dad's PIN number. Since I am my Dad's son, I went online and called the bank, going over all the transactions for the last 3 weeks, and to my dismay I found there were almost $10,000 in ATM withdrawals, fees, walmart, Citgo gas, amazon, etc, made in the last week while my Dad was on his deathbed. There is no chance that my Dad has even spoken to this guy since then, being in what is essentially a coma in the last few weeks of his life.
Right now, I am back in Texas with my family and he is still in Florida; planning for his cremation and funeral while also trying to figure out how to get that $10,000 back as soon as possible. There's no telling how much of my Dad's finances this guy has access to at this point. Any advice on my situation would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ghost died in the same month as Willie, DeathRow was sliding a lot in 2019. Ghost was outside with multiple people in his own hood when shots rang out from an unknown direction, he was shot multiple times in the chest and he died at the hospital. I know a lot of people believed Aero killed an innocent, but people told me that Garcia ποΈ was a known king, why would Aero and FatLord slide on some innocents and specifically target them? Aero and FatLord were driving a turquoise SUV when they made a U-turn at the end of the street and parked in the block close to a king hood, both got out of the SUV with armed 9-mm handguns and approached Garcia and his neighbor as they were outside talking, they opened fire hitting the neighbor in the arm and hitting Garcia multiple times, Garcia returned fire with his own weapon striking Aero multiple times who died at the scene, FatLord was also shot multiple times, FatLord left Aero there and went to a hospital with the SUV in the same clothes that CPD saw on the footage. Garcia was pronounced dead at the hospital, police recovered 19 9-mm shell casings and 10 .40-caliber shell casings from the crime scene. This is a very controversial situation because at first, people said after FatLord recovered from his wounds, he told the police what happen and also snitched on BD ποΈ but now they saying free him, they saying that someone else ratted and not him, but according to this article, CPD is using FatLord as a source, FatLord was the one who allegedly was the driver on the Willie hit, FatLord is still locked up so who knows. The scanner also confirms that they was sliding on some kings because they was having problems lately, it could be possible that some kings gave the location of Savo to NLMB, Savo was killed right at his home so NLMB probably got the drop from someone. NLMB and ABK will diss Aero hard because he killed G Dottie, someone also recorded Aero on the ground, which was heavily mocked by his opps. However, she probably was active in the past and as we all know, the past is catching up to you, her vigil was also shot, allegedly by NLMB again. What i know is this, allegedly NLMB saw some MTG 079 members in traffic in SirconnCity π± hood, they sped up behind them and shot the whole car, Anna was just unlucky since she was in the car with them, she was hit in the head and CPD pronounced her dead at the scene. This was one of the first getback NLMB got for Capo, but it will not stop here, NLMB will get more getback for Capo months later. 2020 was a hard year for MTG 079, they lost 4 members, Anna ποΈ, Pook ποΈ who was not killed by any opps, LB ποΈ an original who was also close to Biyo, LB was killed in DrillCity πΆπ±π ±οΈ hood, last one is Jeezy Snow ποΈ, we will get later to him. Anthony "C-Note ποΈ" Smith04/27/2020C-Note was an OG from NLMB, to be more specific he was from the MuskegonBoyz clique, from what i know he passed away from natural causes, nothing to do with gun violence. He was born in 1985 so he was old compared to a lot of main members from MuskegonBoyz clique like G Farro for example, you could say he was from that White Folks generation. Junius "BoBo ποΈ" Thurston05/07/2020BoBo was a very loved member from ABK, he was one of the main faces from there. BoBo was also a rapper, one of his best songs Pigs Hot where you can see a lot of ABK members including Yogi ποΈ, BoBo was close to NLMB as well, he did a song with Juvie and before his death you could see him around G Herbo. BlackMobb was having a field day when BoBo was killed, even though BoBo left that life behind while starting a truck company, it's not like your opps will forgive you or forget that you did dirt in the streets or hurt their people, that shit is stucked until you die, even if you are 30, 40, as long as you put yourself in danger(go back to the city) you can get killed anywhere. BoBo exit his car and went to a gas station in a relatively safe area far away from any hood, a black Audi pull up and a rear passenger open fire, he ran north from the station but then a gunman got out of the car and chased after him, firing more shots. BoBo collapsed and the gunman caught up to him standing over him and fired more shots, BoBo was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said he was shot multiple times. BlackMobb were not the only ones having a field day with his death, PocketTown also dissed him: "BoBo got his ass smoked, 20 bullets took his soul" 2:45 It is sad because BlackMobb and ABK were like this, but friends are turning to enemies and both sides lost main members in this war. Rio was driving a vehicle with two other teenagers near a gas station in KakiWorld π±π ±οΈβοΈβπΏ hood when a silver SUV pulled up and someone inside started shooting, Rio was shot multiple times and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 14-year-old boy was shot in the back and a 17-year-old boy was hit in the right arm, both were taken to the hospital in good condition. After his death PocketTown goes by "RioGang" in his honour, Rio was also one of their main rappers, one of his most known song is NLMBK, Faro dissed him in a song after he died: "Rio got hit and they left his ass twitching" 0:38 "Rio got hit, y'all ain't get your getback" 1:05 A lot of people are saying NLMB killed KTS Rio but if you watch Freeband BoBo ποΈ video that CH88 made, it is very clear that NLMB didn't do anything to Rio, because the war started when Lil Greg ποΈ was killed, that's also what BoBo said. The beef was not serious until Lil Greg died, BoBo also said the whole war started because of a bitch, Lil Greg wanted to call his guys to kill BoBo because of a girl. Remember there is a difference between "twitter beef" like disses and blood beef, KTS Dre did dirt on NLMB but he did that for Lakeside while PocketTown was his second hood(he started to claim PocketTown after KTS Von died), so Lil Greg was the first guy to die in that beef, we will get later to him. Now honestly it is not known who killed KTS Rio, but one of the most plausible theory is that SirconnCity killed him, months after KTS Rio died, PocketTown lost KDawg ποΈ, another top member while sliding on SirconnCity hood, his article doesn't mention anything about sliding but both sides said that. "We doing hits without hoodies and masks, Rio got hit, he got stretched like an elastic" 1:08 "KDawg got hit on a hit, he dead" 0:24 They are main opps but since PocketTown top members were sliding, i think that means something, especially after Rio died. This won't stop at KTS Rio, this year would be the most hardest year for PocketTown, they will lose 6 members in one year and they was all top members, but not all of them were killed by opps. Big Glizzy/Lil James ποΈ (June 07 2020), killed at a party in Robbins, a suburb of Chicago. KTS Rio ποΈ (July 12 2020), KDawg ποΈ (September 27 2020), Nuke 30 ποΈ (November 25 2020), killed OT, LA Glizzy/Lil Ant ποΈ (January 12 2021), killed OT, Killa Spook ποΈ (March 26 2021), we will get later to Killa Spook. Even though NLMB and 358Gang are opps, as i said in my previous parts, NLMM was always a set focusing on money, they was never known to slide like that, so that's probably why he was close to NLMB and cool with NLMB opps, 358Gang. I went to a friend's wedding yesterday, bride and groom both practicing Catholics, but the majority of the guests were not practicing or not catholic. I know this because the majority of people sat during the liturgy of the eucharist even when the priest asked them to kneel. It surprised me that she would have a full mass for her wedding when not even her immediate family are practicing, honestly, I felt it was daring but I was happy for her decision.
I am a convert, and I am the only person in my immediate family that practices any type of religion. My sister and my dad are confirmed Catholics but do not practice the faith. The only thing I mean by that is they do not go to Mass nor Confession. They see no problem with calling themselves Catholic nor do they see a problem with the fact that they do not participate in any sacraments. I am not sure if they believe in transubstantiation, I can't imagine anyone believing in transubstantiation having no problem with not attending Mass. (I did have a year or so where I did not go to mass, even though I did believe in Transubstantiation, and I knew what I was doing was wrong and hurting me. They really see no problem). My dad does not believe in absolution or the sacrament of confession - as such he does not believe that he needs to be in a State of Grace to receive communion. I have tried to get him to understand, and he knows it's the Church's teaching, he just does not believe it. A few years ago he went to a friend's funeral mass and came home and told me that he "took communion" because he is Catholic, and he can. My sister has done the same thing, if she ever does go a Catholic church, which she does rarely for Christmas, she will receive communion. My best friend, who is also confirmed Catholic, will also do the same thing. They do so because they are Catholic. They honestly see no difference in their Catholic-ness and someone who is actively Catholic and obeys the obligations that come along with that. If point it out, I am "judging them" and acting "holier than thou."
I decided years ago that I would never have a Mass ceremony when I eventually get married, because I could not handle knowing that my wedding was the opportunity for my family and friends to receive communion when they shouldn't. Yesterday, sitting at my friend's wedding I realized though that I wholly desire to have and receive the Eucharist on my wedding day.
My sister is now engaged, and my mother (never baptized) wants her to get married at my parrish because my grandfather is laid to rest there. She won't because she doesn't want to. But I highly doubt anyone could convince her and her fiancΓ© to go through marriage prep. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't take it seriously.
All of that is my long winded explanation to say that I am very lost on how to deal with people who fit into the Catholic Church because they are baptized and or confirmed but have no respect for the Eucharist and inviting them to a Catholic Mass (for a wedding, holiday, or just to attend). It is truly weighing on me. The disrespect to the Eucharist is honestly heartbreaking, and it truly angers me which is not doing anyone any favors. The problem is some people see the Eucharist as a right instead of a rite. How do you handle or get past it?

I posted here before, but did not get much response. I'm hoping that this time will yield at least a different perspective.
My wife was born in the UK to a black, Nigerian father and a white, French mother. Her mother abandoned the family when she was 12 and her younger sisters were 9, 9 (passed in 2019) and 7. Family prejudices, they didn't want her with a black foreigner from a third country and wanted her to marry a more acceptable man. She returned to France and did just that. Remarried and had 4 more kids. My wife and her sisters tried to reach out to them last year but were met with an unfavorable response. But her father did an incredible job of raising them on his own. She came to the USA for college and that is where we met. She taught me French, I taught her Italian (I am Italian-American, 2nd gen.). We got married in September of our junior year of college at 20. Here we are almost 20 years later and 7 kids into this.
My father and sisters-in-law were visiting with us from the UK. Our kids were all upstairs and myself, my wife, her father and her sisters were in the kitchen/living room area having a drink. Seemed that my father-in-law was having an epiphany over his glass of wine and apologized for all the grief that their mother caused when she left them. Wife responds in French, "That is what you get for sticking your dick in chaos." He looked like she had slapped him. In Italian, so no one else would understand, I told her to consider that this was a man who came to a strange country with nothing, managed to raise 4 incredible and accomplished women on his own after his wife left because of the hate and prejudice in her family's hearts, who would've tried to move heaven and earth if he thought it would give his children a good chance in life and who managed to go on after burying one of his daughters one week after her 33rd birthday. A lesser man would've crumbled a long time ago and I asked her to please hear him out. She responded in Italian and told me to stay out of it. Her sisters reminded us English or French please and the night went on normally.
I had a long talk with her father on our back porch about everything and told him what I said to her in Italian. Admittedly, I shouldn't have done that. When I went upstairs to our room, she asked me if me and her dad were best friends now or something. Accused me of taking his side when I told her that I did tell him what I said to her in Italian. She was fairly angry at me when she went to sleep. They all left this morning right after we went to church. When we got home, we sat on the porch and I apologized to her, told her I didn't realize how angry she was at her father and asked where did that remark about the dick and chaos come from. She then brought up our wedding in Sept 2003. Her father had every intention of being there but that same week, he had to fly to Nigeria to be with his ailing father and as the first born had to be there for certain burial customs and to sort out his affairs. He sent his younger daughters ahead without him and missed the wedding and reception. I know that she had been angry with him for quite some time about it but as the years passed, it seemed that she had become more understanding. At least from what I gathered whenever we spoke about our wedding.
She talked about how angry she was at her father for not doing his due diligence and marrying a woman whose family did not approve of who he fundamentally was in terms of race and ethnicity. How isolated she and her sisters had grown up from the entire maternal half of her family and even when she reached out to her adult half siblings, the response had been disinterest and more rejection. We've talked about that frequently, how she's felt rejected by her mother and her mother's family. She wrote letters and sent pictures as a kid with no response. Her mother came to our college graduation as well as her sisters', my wife's graduation from her PhD, our wedding and my wife's sister's funeral in the UK in 2019, the first time our children met her face to face. Those were all the handful of times my wife saw her since she disappeared on them in 1995.All the big moments and even then there was minimal contact/interaction. No one could blame her for being angry, no one could blame any of them for being angry. After about 2 hours of talking, I finally mentioned counseling to talk with a professional and she immediately closed up on me. Told me she's dealing with it how she deals and that she doesn't need therapy. She just walked off.
The day is going on normally, I suppose, but I can't help but feel like I took 10 steps back after making a little bit of progress with this situation. The kids have been asking all weekend if she's okay and I just don't want them worrying about it. Ultimately, I want her to go to therapy because I think it would be helpful for her to deal with that anger.

At least from what I gathered whenever we spoke about our wedding.
She talked about how angry she was at her father for not doing his due diligence and marrying a woman whose family did not approve of who he fundamentally was in terms of race and ethnicity. How isolated she and her sisters had grown up from the entire maternal half of her family and even when she reached out to her adult half siblings, the response had been disinterest and more rejection. We've talked about that frequently, how she's felt rejected by her mother and her mother's family. She wrote letters and sent pictures as a kid with no response. Her mother came to our college graduation as well as her sisters', my wife's graduation from her PhD, our wedding and my wife's sister's funeral in the UK in 2019, the first time our children met her face to face. Those were all the handful of times my wife saw her since she disappeared on them in 1995.All the big moments and even then there was minimal contact/interaction. No one could blame her for being angry, no one could blame any of them for being angry. After about 2 hours of talking, I finally mentioned counseling to talk with a professional and she immediately closed up on me. Told me she's dealing with it how she deals and that she doesn't need therapy. She just walked off.
The day is going on normally, I suppose, but I can't help but feel like I took 10 steps back after making a little bit of progress with this situation. The kids have been asking all weekend if she's okay and I just don't want them worrying about it. Ultimately, I want her to go to therapy because I think it would be helpful for her to deal with that anger.

Quick backstory: my (27, F) parents divorced 10 years ago. It was a really messy divorce, with lots of court cases even after the divorce was settled. One court case was just last year, where the judge decided that my dad (53) is not allowed to contact my mom (47) in any way. You also have to know that my dad is a complete narcissist and my mom was diagnosed as bipolar just a few years ago. Itβs been a rough journey, but sheβs a lovely person despite her mental illness.
In 2022, while in a depressive episode, my mom moved in with my grandma (her mother). Which, in retrospect, was not a good idea. There was a lot of tension between her and my grandma (65) as my grandma did not know how to deal with my moms mental illness. This caused a falling out and they havenβt talked for about 6 months.
In december 2022 I had to admit my grandma to the hospital due to a lung infection. She always had problems with her lung due to being a smoker and we knew the situation is critical. So of course I let my mom know about her health situation. After a few days in the hospital my grandma was admitted to the ICU because her health declined massively.. my mom visited her every day for a month. The doctors tried everything but unfortunately it was time to say goodbye. Mom and me held her hand as she took her last breath on February 3rd 2023.
It was heartbraking, especially for my mom.
On February 6th I got a call from my dad asking me if he can come to the funeral. I said no, because i knew that my mom would break down even more if she saw him there. Losing her own mother is hard enough.
He was not happy with my answer and started screaming at me. Saying that my mom has no right to be there because of the falling out and that she should stay home so he can go. I ended the call crying after he told me that I am taking away his right to show his ex mother in law his last respects. I knew he only wanted to come to hurt my mom.
He has not spoken to me since, telling my whole family that i ruined our relationship because i put my βcrazyβ mom first.
(Oh and quick sidenote, February 7th was my birthday and all i got was a text message saying βanyway, happy birthday)
He refuses to speak to me unless i apologise for my βbad behaviourβ.
So, am i the asshole for not letting him go to the funeral and standing by my decision?

This is my second attempt. My first was made on impulse a few weeks ago, but this time I'm insuring it'll work.
I figured I'd leave some kinda record about myself so here it is. It's gonna be pretty long, but it's for me so can't say I'm sorry about that. Though I will say one thing if you're someone near the edge and about to be where I am get help. Get all the damn help you can and then some, talk to your friends, family, a camp counselor, the fucking guy at the 7/11. Watch a Jordan Peterson or David Goggins video(I don't like either guy but I couldnt give a shit what will help you), watch a haha funny video to relax a bit, or just go for a walk until you get tired enough to be sure where your heads at. There's beauty in life and it's worth at least trying to find it.
Now that that's out of the way I can be a selfish narcissist and focus on me. Growing up I had a cartoonishly abusive dad. He had the Burt Reynolds stash, hawaiian shirts, pack of cigs a day, always gambling variety douchebag dad. Kinda funny visualizing him now funny enough you get the sense that he smells like overly pungent cologne to cover up the cigarette smell. He would beat me and my mother, and basically drain her of money to gamble it all in a weekend. I think my most pronounced memory of the man is of him beating me and my mother with a chair, and then using me as a prop to hustle money from strangers on a really hot summer day.
My mother? Well as bad as she took she dished it out well herself. She was physically and emotionally abusive herself. She'd blame me for all her relationship failures. She blamed me for my father and any other man for that matter who didn't want her. One day after a particularly bad separation from my father since he disappeared for years at a time out of nowhere she took me to the top of a parking garage. She looked me right in my eyes and said "We should both jump". That sorta behavior from her was pretty common throughout my entire life around her.
Fast forward to 12 years old and I'm being fed a nice hearty diet of McDonalds and other really great for you food. So I end up being a fat kid for a big chunk of my life with hormones that probably have more in common with the ingredients of a Burger king oreo shake than a regular young man. My mother did her role of making fun of my weight too regardless of the fact she was fat as well.
When I hit highschool my mother, her new partner, and myself moved into my grandparents. I lived on the couch and they got their own room. They chose to not work for 6 whole years. I went into the worst depression one could imagine, I don't even remember the faces of anyone as I slept the entirety of most of my classes because I couldn't sleep at home. I hit 17 and I was expected to get a job to help my mother and her partner move out. I couldn't even finish school, and here I was paying off two grown adults lives like a slave.
So after 6 months of work I pay off the down payment of their apartment, pay half of the rent, and am now living in a town where I knew no one. And after a few years of this I began the biggest redemption arc I could possibly do. I got in shape, I moved out, I went to culinary school, I got with enough people to satisfy the lack of relationships I didn't have when I was younger, lived in Europe for a few years, I got married(didn't work out but whatrya gonna do), and I had some money in my pocket.
But I wasn't happy. I was not happy? What the fuck why? I did everything I'm supposed to I got out why am I not happy? Well I went to a therapist to find out why, and the man turned out to be a convicted drug peddler. The guy was caught because he was playing up peoples fears in order to hawk drugs onto them. In my case I told him I was having nightmares about an asteroid hitting the Earth and assassins trying to kill me at night yknow goofball shit. He told me "Oh my that makes a lot of sense!". So yea great guy.
Then at 24 I my now ex-girlfriend. Don't worry this isn't going to be a big diatribe about how my hearts been broken as it's a bit more complicated than that. When we were first around each other on a date I had a panic attack a severe one, and you know what she did? She took me to In N Out to talk about it. What the fuck? Who does that? Some spaz guy you just met is having a panic attack and you decide to take him to get food and just... listen? Nobody I have ever met in my life had ever done something even approximating that who I even knew for a long time. I was recently going through heartbreak, but I felt something strangely quickly with this person.
Fast forward a few months and we're madly in love. I truly deeply loved this person, and I needed to be sure before I told her and when I did it changed both our lives. Then the sadness came back. It was like it was telling me "Hey brother remember me? Sorry if you didn't". I was going to fix it this time. I was not going to allow this nonsense to break everything I had achieved, and I would do it for her. I had to try. I went to another Psychiatrist and when I only began telling my story to her and that I possibly had PTSD she held a hand up to me and said "Stop, if it was that easy to get PTSD everyone in Africa would have PTSD". After I finished my story she said "You may have PTSD" so you gotta imagine the topsy turvical state that put my brain into. She prescribes 3 drugs at once for me which was terrifying, but I wanted to trust the system for my girlfriend. I needed to.
The drugs gave me an adverse reaction and it put me in the mental hospital for a week because I had suicidal thoughts. I know its ironic to say it now, but I did not have suicidal thoughts. At least not really feeling like it. Well I get out and I'm in a bad way for a few weeks after and began going on a massive recovery spree. It took a few months but I was back to it, and I was hitting the ground running again and even taking college classes. This was in March 2020. I hope you all remember that date because that's the month COVID hit.
Things began to rapidly unravel. My girlfriend got her first job at Walmart and I could see her mental state deteriorate before me not just due to the job but also what was happening to the world around us. It was also the beginning of her physical abuse. She came home from a particularly bad shift at work one day and punched me in the gut. I was mad, I was furious, but I also forgave her. On some level I wanted to understand because the world was going to complete shit and I told her as long as she got help I'd forgive her. It kept happening. The second time she attacked me I told her I was leaving, but she went into our closet banged her head against the wall and said she would kill herself. She would hit me with pad locks, serrated edged spatulas, hair dryers, fists. I didn't leave I needed to protect her and beyond that I loved her more than life itself.
The years go on and she began becoming truly abusive especially since she hadn't achieved her dream job yet. Then one day she did. And things were good again, they were like the old days. But then things started to fall apart for her. Her job began to resent her and feel like she didn't fit in, and her old habits of abuse were back with a vengeance. During this time period two of my friends had become drug addicts and one killed themself. So I was feeling more and more alone and broken.
We're in mid 2022 now and I'm a severe depression, I wasn't taking care of myself, playing videogames every day, resenting my girlfriend for her actions, and feeling truly alone. I retreated from the world and everything around me just seemed like some sort of dream. I was the rock for both of us in our relationship and I had stayed strong for her, every time she failed, every time she hit me, every time I was there for her. I was far from perfect, but something that can never be taken from me was I took care of the both of us.
It felt like everything I had worked for was falling down apart around me, and I'll be frank it was. Fast forward to May this year and I had truly degenerated from all of my progress. My girlfriend had lost attraction to me, and wanted me gone. Well this itself would've been fine despite the fact that much of this was due to her actions towards me. For example when I told her about one of my friends suicide she made it about herself, and didn't listen to me whatsoever. And even tried to refuse taking us to my grandfathers funeral.
Well what she chose to do was to project her abuse onto me. She claimed I was emotionally abusive for having not been on top of chores after the severe amount of depression I had gotten into in the past year. I became extremely depressed from this and while I was leaving we had a massive fight where both of us yelled at each other, and then well I had to leave. I had to leave the home I had for 4 years. My cats, my fiancee(she asked me to marry her in april which is another kick to the balls), everything. I had no money to my name because she threatened suicide once if I got a job because she wanted me to be home to take care of her, and she did ask me to get work in the last 6 months but I was beyond depressed.
Then after I had left the home I had found out she got a restraining order on me for yelling at her. I'm serious even I couldn't believe it was over there I felt gaslit to shit. And for an entire month I was already dead. I just couldn't believe this was happening. We get to the court date and I tell the judge how this was an attempt to obfuscate her own physical abuse to me and to give her credit she admitted this was true. That she was the abusive one towards me. I appreciate that she at least gave me that. I was able to at least have a cleared name of something I didn't do and say my piece.
The happiness I felt for winning lasted exactly 10 minutes. It was in that moment I realized "Well, it doesn't change anything. Your life is over". It is over. I'm already dead. I don't mean I'm just a bit sad I mean I am dead. I've done the lets start over thing before, and I don't have it in me anymore. I just don't. I lost the person I loved to a world that warped her into someone she wasn't and maybe that's my idealized view of her, but it's how I see it. I still love her, and I still know there's good in her. End of the day though is that I'm penniless, homeless, and basically waiting for death to come to me anyway.
Well that about wraps this up. I hope that anyone who reads this doesn't interpret that motivational shit I said at the beginning as a cynical thing. I had a beautiful life at many times, and if someone as idiotic as me could do it? I'm more than certain you can too. I was born broken, I don't know if it was my environment, my genes, both? Hell. maybe a fair amount of bad luck. Who knows. But I couldn't be happy and every chance I had to be happy it was taken away from me.

When my daughters mom and exwife died 10 years ago, someone brought a big box of something I never would have thought to ask for. Paper plates, napkins, paper towels, TOILET PAPER, utensils. Everyone wants to bring food and you often get inundated with food but having so many people around you forget about all of that other stuff. We adopted the practice at our restaurant. If someone mentions that they are ordering food because someone died we include a grief package from us for free that includes these items along with a personal note from my wife and I expressing our condolences.
We didn't do it for any other reason than we knew how much we appreciated it when it happened to us. However it has done something that we didn't expect. We became our towns place to go for funeral catering. This practice got talked about in the community without our being aware of it and very quickly we started getting a lot more catering. I believe the funeral homes even started telling their customers.
I share this to all of you because it costs very little to adopt but has had huge benefits to us. We aren't blood suckers hoping to drain the bank accounts of people grieving but it's a market we never would have thought of otherwise.
