My guinea pig Jack was two years and six months old, the sweetest little boy you'd ever meet, acting almost like a dog. He'd follow people around everywhere, had tons of energy, jumped and popcorned constantly, loved treats, etc.

Jack was fine today, eating, peeing, pooping normally, popcorning, cuddling, giving kisses, etc. When my mom got home around 4 PM, I brought Jack out to her as I always do, and he was clingy but also acted sleepy and felt like he had lost weight. My mom pointed it out, and I said, " Give him a carrot, see what he does. If he doesn't take it, something's wrong. " my mom went to hand him the carrot and it was like he went completely limp and couldn't move. We rushed to the vet and they told us he probably ate expired food like pellets, but he hadn't had pellets in maybe five days because we ran out but I had ordered some the day before, and we buy fresh hay so it can't be that, no matter what food it is, it CAN'T be the food. We feed both of our pigs the EXACT same thing so if it was food then Jack and Rosalie would both be dead. We gave him the pain medicine and syringe fed him some food that the vet gave us and then he had seizures probably 5-8 minutes apart that started at the same time he went limp, the last seizure lasted about 15 minutes and that's probably what killed him.

I'm absolutely fucking heartbroken. There could never and will never be another pig like Jack. But what I want to know is, what caused his death? Because it sure as hell was NOT food.

666 days today for me without alcohol.
In that time I’ve seen changes and hit goals I didn’t this were possible. I’ve gotten engaged, have a new job, in the works to sell my home and buy a new one, my parents talk to me again, I see my niece and nephew all the time, and best of all I don’t have to drink anymore to survive.
666 days ago I was having kidney failure, hallucinations, and went from a medical detox to a “mental well being” evaluation. After that I stayed with family for a week and then went out on my own. AA helped a lot in the beginning and still does (I don’t go as much but still have my weekly home group). A lot more things happened but it’s behind me now and every day is easier than it would be if I was drinking.
I didn’t have a drinking problem. I had a problem every time I drank and I got the help I needed to deal with the problems in my life that made me drink.
Cheers to everyone on a journey of self improvement. Especially those who are on that journey without alcohol.

Like the title says. I’ve been working since I was 16, I’m 21 now. I’m tired of this shit. It was fun when I didn’t have rent, loans, groceries, baby supplies, all of that. That hasn’t been the case for the past few years.
My husband, our daughter, and myself have been living in hotels since before she was even born. We make too much for any state assistance (besides Medicaid, which is only because we’re homeless) and I receive WIC for my daughter. We make more than enough to pay for an apartment, but not 3x the rent. No one wants to rent out a room to 2 adults and an infant. Can’t save for a security deposit when you’re paying $525 a week for a hotel room.
He does freelancing work while staying home with our daughter, and I’m in training to be a manager. My job didn’t pay me this week. They also didn’t pay me two weeks ago. I got a check last week only for them to not pay me again. I’ve gone to the department of labor and they told me because it was the 2nd offense but not consecutive weeks I have to suck it up and wait until the next payroll cycle next week. We’ve spent half of this month sleeping in the car because of this issue and I’m at my breaking point. We have a room until tomorrow morning and we’re back in the car again. I work and I work some more for what? To not eat for days at a time? To sleep in my car? To be anxious each week now about being paid or not? I’ve lost 10 pounds since mid-February because we only can afford food, that we buy from the Dollar Tree, on the days I get paid.
Like I said, we “make too much” for state assistance. No food stamps, cash assistance, daycare assistance, nothing. I went to a state service building when I didn’t get my last check to try to get hotel vouchers to get us through the week. Told me they were going to call CPS because we were in the car with an infant. I just want to cry right now. We’ve all been sick on and off for the past month and I’m dreading going back to sleeping in a cold car again. I can’t afford to have my car inspected at the DMV so we have to be careful where we park so cops don’t have us towed.
There’s no state programs I can turn to, neither of us have family to help, and I don’t understand how we’re supposed to pull ourselves out of this situation. I haven’t bought a single thing for myself outside of necessities in over 2 years. I’ve had a tooth rotting out for about a year now and it’s gotten incredibly painful in the past few days but my insurance doesn’t have dental so I have to suck it up. I got exactly 1 month off (to the day) after my daughter’s birth because we couldn’t afford just his income anymore. I’m just so worn down all the time now. I feel like a shell of a person. I (25f) have been together with my boyfriend (30m) for about 6 years. So I hold the off button so I can see if it’s dead or somethings wrong with it. It turns on with full battery. Then notifications were popping up from Reddit. He has 2 separate accounts which I did not know of. I confront him and he immediately tries to take his phone away. Tried to hide it and delete it. Red flags immediately go up. So I asked “what are you hiding? Let me see” boom I see 20+ conversations filled with him asking for nudes, videos etc. instant tears…I don’t know what to do. I love him so much, we’ve been through everything together. We were literally talking about marriage soon. Can we get past this?

In my company we use an M3 max daily and everything works. I decided to buy a Mono x 6K to use at home. The printer came well packaged but when I opened it I realized that the acrylic that covers the printer does not fit correctly, I considered it a minor problem and started trying to use it... I've been trying for 2 weeks and every time I get a different error, sometimes the parts they get square marks, sometimes the supports don't print, sometimes the straight corners are rounded, all this using a file that we print frequently in my work... I've already tested several combinations of time, positioning, 2 different types of resin, I even tried to fix some Rerf file to see if I could get some combination, but this model doesn't even have that... anyway... to finish, even the power connector came loose from the chassis. I bought it from the official Aliexpress Store and asked for a refund. After so much headache I hope that at least the return works.

Hi everyone. I'm not on mobile and I speak english good so I have no excuse except I don't really care.
As has been mentioned in previous posts I'm currently working as a delivery driver and recently I got to use part of my companies contract in my favour (that's spelled correctly, it's not my problem that you're 'merican). I forget what the actual legal term is, but there is one particular line in my companies contract that is rarely used, but it's always good fun when it is.
A really simple explanation of what my company does: We're contracted by suppliers to move their stuff from where it's produced to it's ultimate destination, that ultimate destination is usually a store or restaurant, but ultimately it doesn't matter. If you pay us, we'll drop a pallet in the middle of a field (I've done that in the past, big catering job that wanted 2000lbs of various kinds of meat at a remote location. As soon as it hit the ground it got swarmed by cooks. It kinda looked like a swarm of piranhas eating a cow). So it looks something like this:
Supplier->My Company->Customer
I know, it's really complicated but I'm sure you can figure out eventually.
Anyway.
Mostly deliveries involving pallets of stuff have a loading dock or area of some sort and since we usually don't bother with pallets of less than 1000lbs (450kg or so) we usually prefer to use a dedicated loading area (for some reason, the general public gets antsy when someone is moving heavy cargo near their cars. It's weird I know). However, the kicker is that it doesn't matter where you go, or who you deal with, you always have self-important dickhead managers and self-important dickhead managers just looooooooove to park in loading areas (god-forbid that they have to park with the peasants) and it is so common that it is written into our contract with them that we have priority over the loading area, to the point that, if needed, I can walk up to the manager or owner of a store or restaurant and tell them "Move your fucking car" and if they don't after the third time I ask, they are in immediate breach of contract and I am to refuse their delivery and move on with my day. Now I normally try to be more professional than that, but you get the basic idea.
Hence Term 69.
It's not actually called that, but this way I get to write a story about the funny sex number and that makes my inner teenager giggle.
In this case, what happened is that there was a restaurant that goes through a hefty amount of chicken every week (think 1500lb/680kg pallets being delivered 2x per week) complete with a dedicated and marked loading area, but I had a constant problem with the manager of this place parking in their loading area and taking 20+ minutes to move their car.
So to summarize, we have:
A blocked loading area.
Multiple attempts to get the manager to move their car out of the loading area.
A history of trying to get the manager to move their car out of the loading area.
Looks like we have a prime opportunity for some malicious contract compliance.
After the third attempt and 27 minutes of waiting (I timed it) for the manager to move their car I called my manager, explained what was going on and said that I think it's time to invoke Term 69 (he's well aware of the issues that I've had with this place in the past) and gives his go-ahead.
So I walk in. Tell the nearest employee "Get your manager here. Now" and wait for the resident dickhead.
In a remarkably low amount of time, the manager appears and demands to know what the hell I'm doing.
I tell him "I've been waiting for almost half an hour, I've made multiple attempts to make this delivery and that you have so far refused to move your car. I'm invoking Term 69 of our contract with you and am refusing your delivery" I then hand him a business card with my managers number on it and tell him "My manager will be expecting your call tomorrow. I think you have an interesting phone call ahead of you" and walk out.
Throughout my little spiel, the manager was looking angrier and angrier right up until I said "Term 69" and "refusing your delivery" and at that point, he just goes pale.
The reason why this is such a big deal is as follows:
1) he suddenly doesn't have desperately needed ingredients needed for the functioning of his restaurant and won't have them for another few days at a minimum
2) The invoking of Term 69 involves the halting of our contract until a complete review of the circumstances is done.
3) We're a specialist company and are one of three companies in the city willing to handle freight under the exact circumstances we handle and once the other two companies hear that we invoked this Term of our contract, they're not going to touch this place with a 10 foot pole.
4) the manager knows all this
Term 69 is the nuclear option. It's only used as a last resort, but it's really nice to have in your back pocket.

You'd think this is obvious.
We have a custom wooden vanity and are now looking for a wooden shaving cabinet. We didn't buy it together because we were originally going to just re-use the mirror we had but the builders broke it.
We could go with the original carpenters but we've found another place that sources the same type of wood (Blackbutt to be exact) and are at least a grand cheaper.
The problem is when we asked for a quote, they suggested using a different wood because it more closely matches with our current vanity whereas their Blackbutt wood seems to be lighter in colour than ours.

Their rationale is that their chestnut versions have more of those black markings that we have on our vanity but we just can't decide. We kind of feel the same wood type would be safer. We did go in person to check out their actual blackbutt vanity and it does look lighter than our vanity.
But would it matter that much given you'll only see the wood of the shaving cabinet from the side and when we open up the mirrors?

My partner (25m) and I (22f) when out for supper tonight. It was snowing quite a bit. He drove my car home.
When I tried leaving from his, I auto started my car to heat it up. It ran for like 5mins. The thing is is that the windshield wipers were still on. So this led to them pushing against super heavy snow (it had snowed a lot). Which broke the motor completely. I’ve done this before. It cost me 400$ to fix.
I come in back in his house being pretty upset. I’m not mad at him, I’m just super upset at the situation because I’m a university student who can’t afford 400$ at the moment.
He doesn’t mention anything about him paying or helping out, but he’s the one who left them on.
I don’t really know who should pay for this. I guess I’m kinda upset because he does make quite a lot for a living (110k/yearly).. and he’s only 25. And I’m super broke. He does pay for our suppers when we go out, but we don’t live together or anything.
The thing is is that this isn’t the first time he’s done something to my car. About a month ago he dented my front door. He said he was going to fix it, which I believe he eventually will. I do feel bad that he has to pay. Because he does buy me supper when we go out and goes all out for gifts around Christmas.

And there goes the town, and there goes your customers and there goes your store. I guess if nothing else all these people get a clean break. Still though it's hard to watch them pile into their cars and go out west, nothing to their names, nothing to show for their lives in this town. They’re just castaways now.

I'm somewhat lost in trying to figure out options for a new build. It's a large private house with a home office and a guest suite (not rental, used by visiting family/friends). The house networking and video cameras are Unifi, and the automation platform for lights/sound/climate/shades/etc. is Crestron. The main requirements are as follows:

• No physical keys, except for backup. Main residents open doors with phone (ideal) or access cards/fobs (second best).
• Access logs
• Intercom for main door and guest suite with the ability to answer video calls via mobile device.
• Simpler access readers for some other doors, like office, storage etc.
• Ability to issue temporary pass codes to visitors (so keypads for several doors).
• Simple digital locks for bedrooms, ideally integrated with the rest of the locks.
• (optional) ideally, garage doors would be controlled by the same system

The initial plan was to use Unifi door access system everywhere just for the simplicity of one system for everything. But Unifi seems to be retiring the current door access products and the new ones are unproven and unavailable. Also, it does not integrate with Crestron, at least there are no mentions of it that I could find (not sure if that's important. So the integrator is pushing for 2N system, mostly because it integrates with Crestron and they are familiar with it.
Some things about 2N seem suboptimal, though - for example, they don't have readers that combine Bluetooth and keypad forcing to choose eitheor for lesser doors. And for the main intercoms that would mean 3 module versions (camera, keypad, Bluetooth), which are huge. They also do not have simpler digital door locks like Unifi motorized deadbolt option, nethier they have a garage solution. And their intercom apps for mobile devices have very poor reviews, with most reviewers suggesting never buying anything from 2N, which is not confidence-inspiring. Their licensing also leaves a bad taste in the mouth because there are multiple levels of nickel-diming (but that seems typical for the industry).
I tried looking at other options, but it's so hard to figure out what exactly they can do and what they charge for. Also, most are optimized for multi-tenant apartment complexes, with lots of irrelevant stuff like tenant directories and per-apartment fees.
It seems like the requirements are closer to the office system than to the multi-unit apartment building.
Is 2N ok? What else should I consider? Is "crestron integration" a big deal/worth it? I do not envision using Crestron native tablets for anything - everything will be done via mobile devices. Unifi access is very compelling on paper but there is no real installation of their new stuff and their current stuff had issues.

Hi everyone, I've been giving out my packaged granola to friends, family and neighbors. I've been able to fine tune the recipe with feedback collected in the process.
I'd like to take it to the next step and actually sell my granola, but I'm not sure how to get started. Since we have young kids, selling at a farmer's market isn't realistic - so I'm not sure how to best get my product to market. Would I take a few samples to nearby stores? Should I create a website (though I'm not sure who would buy a granola they've never heard about).
Currently making everything at home, but if we start getting a large number of orders we'd rent a commercial kitchen.
Does anyone have any tips/suggestions?

Oh thank the heavens! We're outta the tombs! Climbing out of the Tombs with various fresh dead bodies, the party manages to escape some tough questions from the priests with some sweet Jedwyn explanations. They even manage to acquire some help to wheelbarrow the bodies to the castle. All their efforts are put on a hold however when a commotion in the direction of the town square occurs. Running over, they see that sneaky son-of-a-bitch Daniel Crumb murder a couple of guards, but he isn't after them....no no no...his harrowed dead eyes are fixed on the person in the stationary carriage.... One Daniel Creme leaps from the back of the carriage into the streets away from the ambush only to be stopped in his tracks by a weird sound emitted by Daniel Crumb. You know where this is going...Our party aren't the best bodyguards and well...Daniel Creme gets shanked in the back and dies by the hands of Daniel Crumb. Still following?! Crumb killed Creme. BACK TO THE STORY!
​
The party finally arrives at the castle and are stopped at the gates by guards wondering what the hell this corpse train behind them is all about.
Barilla Stromboli, Roll for Intimidation on the guards to allow them to pass with the dead bodies. 13 The guards are hesitant but willing to listen them out.

The guards tell em the dump the bodies, but also tell the group they will handle it and are ushered along to see the King. The accustomed pageantry follows as the king comes into the room and quickly addresses the groups findings. The king listens on but its intrigued when Fumbles explains that the bodies in this restricted area were being bisected and worked on. The colour drops from the Kings face as he realizes the situation is far worse than he previously thought. Some group has infiltrated the temples and this could be linked to the sympathizers of the descendants of the island. Eager to push his plans, King Talantis reaches for a scroll and breaks into his next quest for the group. While he's always suspected there to be some civil unrest with the descendants, he hasn't been able to cull them out entirely. Maybe his shit guards are the problem. But before him is a capable party willing to do his bidding. Right? He breaks out a map and points to a grove in the "north-right" area of the city. It's oddly enough known as the "Descendants Grove", a suspected stronghold. Their mission, if they should choose it, is to recon the area and report back to the king. On their way it's suggested they head to the "Illuminated Grove", a place where King Talantis the first sowed the first seeds of his conquest. The king is carried off to trumpets.
Fritz listening on doesn't feel good about this. He and Jedwyn with his telepathic abilities talk it out; were they brought here to cleanse the island? Maybe the King and his force are the bad ones? hmmmmm
Uneasy over the development of things, the party softly agree to the kings request but backtrack once he leaves the room. They head to collect their reward, some 1200 gold, riccccch boys!
Heading back to the Tavern they each buy their own rooms and head to bed.
The very next day, pockets full, the shopping spree commences!
Jedwyn decides to sell the Orb he'd been mage handling since the tombs by heading to a magic shop. It happens to be illegal....as it can trap souls...
Jedwyn Bogswallow, Roll for persuasion to convince the shop keeper if he would take this orb off his hand for a few gold pieces 19 The shop keeper "drops 275 gold" and the orb manages to be in his ownership.
Now the shopkeeper starts to haggle his wares to the rest of the group, like Carl 7... He pulls out an old skeleton key for 15 gold, says he doesn't know what it opens to...

The shop keeper now turns to Fritz and reaches down to a small metal can. It has no lid but shakes like a salt shaker. The riddle is solving it lies with Fritz if he chooses to purchase it for 8 gold, which he does.
Barilla is offered an iron branded dark ceramic urn, which have the ashes of a great hero. Anyone who carries it, takes on his bravery for only 15 gold.

Jedwyn grabs provisions as well as a mule with a pack saddle. A cart is bought by Barilla, which is attached to Carl 7's steed which he always has with him apparently. Fumbles buys a disguise kit but something else happens to the entire group....

"There is no ethical consumption in capitalism" may be a little extreme, but there are definitely companies that I think are just so egregiously evil in every category. It'll be handy to just know which ones to avoid without looking them up or carrying a list. Whether labor, environmental, tax evasion, or other reasons, please submit your Top 10.
Here's mine (some companies are undoubtedly more evil than a few on this list, like ExxonMobil, but it's also not practical to avoid gasoline... this list is more about companies that we can easily identify and avoid):

1. Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, other Elon Musk companies. This daddy-made billionaire openly takes pride in union-busting. His cars and spaceships benefit the wealthy, depend on massive tax subsidies to survive, and are bad for the environment. He flaunts supporting coups in Bolivia, and makes bank off of Congolese child slaves to mine his conflict minerals. Alternative: Buy cars made by unionized companies. Buy used cars. Or better yet, take the bus or ride a bike!
2. Amazon, Whole Foods, Washington Post, other Jeff Bezos companies. This daddy-made billionaire is also on the front lines of union-busting and works his workers to the bone. Remember the poor workers who got killed in an Amazon warehouse from a tornado because they were told to stay put instead of evacuate? Remember the poor drivers who have to pee in bottles, and then Jeff Bezos lied about that? Buying Washington Post is also a direct threat to a free and open media. Alternative: Shop local. Plan ahead.
3. Walmart. I know that this is a tough one for people who might not have many other options. But for food at least, maybe try to shop at farmer's markets, co-ops, etc. (and ask if they take food stamps/EBT - a lot of them do!). Alternative: Lots of others.
4. Apple. Uses Chinese slave labor, conflict minerals, etc. Opposes the right to repair. Intentionally made older iPhones so slow as to become unusable. Alternative: Android (run by #6, Google, which isn't much better...)
5. Nestle. Literally steals clean water from those who need it the most. Lies about formula being better than breastmilk. Alternative: Just look on the back of a package to see its logo.
6. Google. "Do No Evil" my ass. Gmail may be free and convenient, but have you ever wondered how does Google make money? YOU are their product. All of your information is read and sold by them. Google mines your emails and sell the info to marketers. Google cooperates with the government to spy on you. Also did a mass layoff just because they could. Alternative: Private, paid email services. Use DuckDuckGo or other search services. Use your browser's private mode, delete your browsing history & cookies whenever possible.
7. Disney. Steals others' ideas and then pimps product lines as its own. Look up "Kimba the White Lion" on Wikipedia. Look up "María Salud Ramírez Caballero" - Disney (Pixar) interviewed her, took her photos, made her into the Mama Coco character, lied to her saying they'll take care of her, and then told her to fuck off. Disney also fires American workers and replaces them with foreign indentured servants. Alternative: Read books, essays, go out and play sports, organize a union, watch something else. Trust me, you'll survive without their garbage brainwashing.
8. Microsoft, Adobe, other big software companies. They seek to corner their respective markets, then turn their products into a "service" for which you pay rent - forever. You don't own anything, you are just a cow to be milked until you die. Alternative: Lots of other software companies out there which offer similar apps, including much lower cost & free/open source options.
9. Uber, Lyft, and similar "tech companies". Their whole business model is to exploit labor law and market regulations. They control the how, where, when, etc. of their workers' jobs, but then claim that their workers are not employees to avoid paying wages & benefits & taxes. Their workers are also shouldered with all the liability (e.g. crashing their car) that comes with their jobs. Alternative: Call your local taxi company. Use a restaurant's own delivery service, or go pick up the food yourself. Make your own dinner. Plan ahead.
10. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Chase, basically any huge national bank. The only question to ask is, why haven't these evil, pieces of shit banks been taken apart, and all of their executives locked up in jail? Because they control the government through their lobbyists and "donations". From mortgage fraud, to predatory fees that screw over their poorest customers, to even faking accounts of its own customers, there is no low that they won't go. They are also horrible to their employees, and pressure their employees to prey upon customers. Remember, a poor robs a bank and they get 5 years in federal prison. The bank robs a poor and nobody gives a damn. These cancers upon society should 100% die. Do your part and take your money out. Don't get loans from them. Don't give them any business. Alternative: Lots! Local community banks. Credit unions. Online banks (make sure they're FDIC insured).

Tell your friends & family. Spread the word. 1 person won't make a dent. But 1 person who tells 10 others, and they then tell 10 others each, will eventually cause these evil companies to collapse and die. Do your part.

After playing this game so much, I decided to have some easy, relaxing and dumb fun with it and, of course, mods were the answer for this. But I’ve never found a mod that merges some specific features that I like into a single Sponsor and Commander duo. Puhhh, First to say: I’m pretty new to this franchise. I played Me 1-3 in February (LE Edition) and i fell for Mass effect. I Love those 3 games. My life was meaningsless after beating the reapers. My heart wanted more, it wanted to see Sheppard live a happy life with Tali on Rannoch. Yeah I’ll have to wait for that one.
But then I saw that there is another Game with Mass effect in the title. MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA. I was like „woah“ my life has meaning again. Buyed it for 13 bucks on the ps store. And then i started it.
Mass Effect Andromeda . New Characters, new Story, new protagonist.
I have already heared that many players didnt liked Andromeda but I thought, Ill give it a try. The idea wasnt bad! woke up and already didnt liked cora. Our Asari Elitesoldier. But one character was worse. In the first second as i saw him. Liam. Wow he was boring. Only brought him on his loyalty mission with me. Vetra was cool, i wish I would have chose her over peebee . Vetra my mature turian gf with spikes. But took peebee as Gf (i didnt know i was watching porn) but she adorable.
They both arent as adorable as tali because tali is bestgirl , but vetra and peebee are the both best romances for male Ryder (a pitty that Suvi is lesbian, i really liked her character)
But okay everyone can romance what he/ she wants
Drack was cool, old grandpa krogan As I said, Cora was annoying with her asari soldier story ( did you know that she was a asari elite soldier ???) Jaal was cool. Jaal was a bro. You can call Jaal at 2 am and he would offer you a ride home. Peebee was quiet cute, a bit immature (as ryder) but they got along pretty well imo because they mature together . Vetra was a bit of an milf, older , more mature, she knows what she wants. A shame i choose looks over character!
The tempest was a cool ship, but why can’t they build stairs? My ryder built strong biceps after all that leader climbing
The setting was interesting ngl The Kett , hmm i don’t know about them. They’re likely out of a different system and came then to andromeda so it’s possible that we could see them in me4 as antagonists. But aren’t so cool as the reapers . Same goes for the archon.
But the worst part of the whole game :
Those fucking vault missions. Wow they were so annoying . Those glyph puzzles and the relicts as enemys. I hated everything about that.
The quest design is a two sided blade imo. It brings A LOT of characters and mini story’s. But in the same breath it’s just overwhelming, there were too much sidequests. I had 50 hours of playtime and I left many quests unsolved because there were just to many . They really chose quantity over quality unfortunately.
And that ryders choices made so little impact on the story was a pitty too.
We were introduced by me 1-3 with damn good writing ,interest catching characters (the most ones) and better world building. These games are masterpieces, they can’t be surpassed by anything. And andromeda Tried it. But failed . It’s not a bad game, i had fun with it for the most part . And I don’t quiet get the hate for the game. But nothing to compare with Me 1-3
So there you have it guys. In February i was completely new to the franchise. I thought only Star Wars can catch me as hard as it does. (I’m a big Star Wars fan) But Mass Effect, wow it got me hard. I ordered even the books !!! It even started a interest for astronomy! ( And a even bigger addiction to everything connected to Tali‘Zorah ) I brought my girlfriend to start with Mass Effect (she’s currently in me1 on Noveria)

First, what key is "Locket" by Crumb in? As other post have pointed out, the melody is in Bb minor, which is functionally the same key as as Db Major. For ease of use, let's say it's in Db major (if you tried playing the chord Db Major, after the fade-out, you would find somewhat surprisingly that such a resolution sound perfectly natural, and feels like quite a relief!)
The remarkable thing about 'Locket' being in the key of Db major is that neither the chord of Db major nor the chord of Bb minor is ever played in the song. Wondering why the song feels so surreal and unsettled? That's one reason.
Second, ignoring the intro for a moment, the main chord progression is Gbmaj7 -> C7. Gbmaj7 is the 4 chord, so you'd expect a plagal cadence to Db -- but you never get that. Instead you get C7. Based on tritone substitution, C7's tritone tones (Bb and E) make that chord functionally identical with -- say it with me now! -- Gb7.
So, you could rethink of the main verse chord progression as Gbmaj7 to Gb7 with a C in the bass for added dissonance. You see this move pop up in pop and rock with a soulful flavor -- it's another way of going back to the I chord, and it still functions as a plagal cadence - just with more 'stank.' For a similar sound, check out the verse of "I Think I Like When It Rains" by Willis: the main progression there is A -> Bm7 -> Dmaj7 -> D7, then back to A. It has a melting effect, but also a tightening effect. But at its root, IVmaj7 -> IV7 is just a jazzier version of an "AH-MEN" that has been used in hymns time since time immemorial. Yet by never resolving to the home major key (or even Bb min, its relative minor), "Locket" keeps you in a state of perpetual unease.
(Bonus--why does the bassist play F under the C7 chord, as you can clearly see him do in live performances? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5YHOB1fmSc. The note F in C7 is a suspended fourth*, seemingly a strange choice when you are also play the Major third - E - of C7.* There are a few rationales: First, generally, it creates a dissonant and downward sound, which reflects the whole moody vibe of the song. Second, that tone is so low, almost muddy, so your ear almost doesn't consciously register it, while it nonetheless contributes to moody effect described above. Third, if, for the sake of argument, you imagined you were playing in the key of F, C7/F would be a suspended V chord, such as used by Bach in the 18th measure of Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major -- it feels unresolved, but deliciously so. Any, or a combination of all three of these explanations, could explain this seemingly odd choice.)
So now we get to the chorus. Gb maj 7 to F min 7 - that's a maj IV chord to a minor III chord. This chord progression has an oscillating momentum, stepping down, stepping up, before stepping down today. The oscillation leaves you feeling unresolved (when will we get to the safe harbor of Db major?!?) but it's also more conventional than the Gb maj 7 -> G7 we saw before. A typical chord progression that the Gb maj -> Fmin change evokes is the IV - iii - ii - I chord progression, used during the transitional instrumental section of "Let it Be" and also (F -> Em -> Dm -> C) and in the verse of "Lean on Me" (C - Dm - Em - F - Em -Dm - C). In "Locket," Gb - Fm wants to send us home, which makes sense - that's what a chorus should do.
Naturally, and as you should be expecting by now in this composition, Crumb denies us that easy pleasure. Instead, Fm goes to a bright Eb major and the lift-off pad of C7. As we established above, C7 is just a variation of Gb7, so the last chord in the chorus just makes us want to go home to Db major again, like a typical plagal cadence would (but of course...you'll never get true resolution from this song). So why Eb major?
The (or at least one answer): Eb major acts as a secondary dominant (minus the 7th chord tone) of Ab7, the V7 chord in the key of Db major. V/V chords ALWAYS have a distinctive, brightening effect, and they create an expectation that we are going home to I major by a more bright, peppy mood. This progression is widely used throughout classical, jazz, and pop music. Two familiar modern examples are found in "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" by Bob Dylan (E - B - C#m - F#7 and E - E7 - A - F#7) and the bridge of "Earth Angel" by the Penguins (Db - Ab - Db - Ab - Bb - Eb). It's just another way of getting home, but it creates excitement, which is appropriate, since the Eb major chord is the high-water mark of the song. The Eb to C7 transition, if we pretend we're in Eb major, is a move from the 'home' major chord to the 'Chromatic Submediant." It strikes me as a bold change, with an association of space and heroism. Finally, the outro to the song is Gbmaj7 to F minor7, the oscillating chord progression we've heard in both the chorus and the intro. It conveys that same topsy-turvy, unsettled harmonic message, and energy, that "Locket" has been main-lining into our veins the entire time--are we going up or down, in or out? The song similarly had opened with the unsettling, see-saw of Fmaj7 and Em7, and whereas at that point we ROSE from the Fmaj7-Em7 progression to Gbmaj7-Fm7 for the pre-verse, now we're stuck in the IV-iii oscillator forever. We've come full circle, yet somehow we've gone nowhere: "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” -The Great Gatsby.
