2023.03.24 05:04 Electrical-List9870 I been out of the workforce for 7 years due to parenting. Now I’m overqualified for entry/mid level jobs but am struggling to get a senior level position. What now?
I worked as an HR manager for nearly a decade before I quit the workforce to become a stay at home mom at the age of 36. Before I was promoted to management, I was an HR coordinator, generalist and specialist. My current issue is that I can’t find anyone to hire me due to my gap. Employers don’t like gaps which I understand because I used to work in HR and we didn’t hire many people with large gaps like the one I have. I tired applying to entry/mid level jobs but I keep getting rejected. It is because I’m overqualified and a flight risk. Plus, my gap isn’t helping even with entry and mid level positions. I can’t even get a coordinator or generalist position. Or even an admin position for that matter. I’m lost for words and feel like a complete failure despite my many years of hard work. Not that I regret staying at home with my son. I don’t. They get big fast and you don’t get those years back.

Going to kep this short as possible, but I'm facing sexual harassment from the franchise owner at my job. He is my immediate boss and I report to him directly. I want to be vague as I'm legitimately very afraid of him and don't know what to do. I'm afraid to even report him because I get the sense hes unstable.
Here goes,
I started for this company about 2 months ago. In the beginning, everythings great. Good hours, excellent pay, clients like me, great reviews etc. My boss tells me im doing great and wants to give me additional hours, I agree gladly. The additional hours he has offered however are not part of the original job description I applied for, more of a side project. Either way, im stoked because the pay is so high and Ive been struggling money wise for about a year. Time goes on, he asks if we can have one on one check ins every week, sounds great, more pay. One on ones turn into lunch meetings, still great. Happy to get free food and paid. This side gig I'm helping with has mixers about once a month. He says im free to being a guest, I bring my mom, everythings still cool. Mixer #2 comes up, offers a guest spot again, I mention i'll be bringing my husband, everything comes to screeching hault.
As soon as I send the email I get a call, hes franticly trying to piece together an excuse for me not to bring him. I inquire why several times, can't give me a straight answer. First its too small a venue, then it's too expensive, then its his "boss," (he is athe franchise owner, so what?) then his accoutnant, etc etc etc. I'm weirded out. I see him the next day for a one on one, so i drop it till then. Im thinking im paranoid at this point.
Well the one on one was a nightmare. It was horrifially awkward, immediately he told me I shouldnt divulge personal information to him as it's not appropriate. I ask what personal info, then he says the portion of the email that I mentioned I had a boyfriend was making him uncomfortbale. I was shocked, asked why, couldnt get a straight answer. He said "he could have gone forever without knowing"?? He then went back and fourth maybe 5 times saying I cant come to the social with my husband, then I can, then he'll stay home and we'll go in his place, then we both cant go, back to just saying I need to come but I cant come with my husband. I say im not coming, he insists. Demands even. Said he told clients i'd be there. Demanding an answer on the spot. I'm getting severely, severly freaked out, trying to hold it in. Thought about quitting several times but just told him whatever he needed to hear so I could go home. I should mention, the whole time this meeting was happening he was shifting uncomfortably, having trouble making sense and fidgeting which was amplifying my fear about 10 fold.
I send an email after saying I'd like to go back to my original job desciption (client facing ONLY, no one on ones) and he calls, panicked immediately. Huffing and puffing, stuttering, breathing heavily. Cryptic rant of him trying to say "there are things I cant say as your employer as bad as I want to" then he said he wanted to "pin me" (old fashioned term for going steady with someone) He's well aware I'm in a relationship and yet this behavior persisted. I was trying to get him to be clear but he said he wouldn't explain further.
I put my foot down and say I want to just do my original job again. He then cuts my hours to less than half of what I was getting.
I'm scared, I don't know what to do. I don't want to go back to work. It escalated from nothing to something very scary very fast. I am worried he'll retaliate if I report this, genuintely. The way he acted makes me scared to even walk to my car alone. Not loving that he knows my address either. He is the owner of this franchise, there is no one "above him" I can report this behavior to. What do i do? I dont want to lose this job, I'm good at it and the pay is amazing. I'm just so, so scared of my boss now.

2023.03.24 05:04 Bruhhcentral Ketamine may have saved my life tonight
Haven’t posted on here in a while. Been going through alot of personal issues and have not been using ketamine nearly as much as I should have been, partly due to me just being an emotional depressed mess, and partly due to bladder issues from ketamine.
Today I almost had a psychotic break. Not sure how many of you have experienced one of those before, but they are terrifying. At the end of my work day, one of my good friend and co workers was still there and I asked if he could hang around and talk to me. I was at the point of a psychotic break, and if he didn’t stick around, I really don’t know what I would have done. I’m living in a new city where I don’t know many people and I feel very alone at times. And when I feel very alone and crazy, my mind can take me to some serious dark places
We went out to dinner after work and went back to my place afterwards and I figured I’d do my ketamine, so as I started doing it, he decided to stick around and just talk to me. He also suffers from severe depression and is familiar with ketamine and how it helps with depression symptoms.
Typically my ketamine sessions are alone in bed with a mask on and earphones. This time, I was totally coherent having the deepest conversation I’ve ever had with another human being. I haven’t connected with someone like that in years ( and he was totally sober through the whole thing) . We both talked about depression, suicide, all the bad shit, BUT then we talked about the ways out. What we need to continue to do to get better. The positive things life has to offer as well. Etc etc. we talked about so much.
I have a horrible habit of saying I’m gonna do all these positive things but never do them. This time, I need to make that change and actually put 100% effort in to change. Like they say, if nothing changes nothing changes. After he left, I just balled my eyes out and cried for hours and it was beautiful. Haven’t cried like that since I was a kid.
I don’t know if this was the ketamine, the conversation, or just simply another human being willing to give up some of his time to help someone he knew was struggling, but I am forever grateful for all 3. ❤️❤️❤️

I’m Scottish and currently dating a Latina (Cuban) woman, we’re getting along very well, and I’m maybe a few months off from proposing. Acknowledging the risk of stereotyping, I’ve heard from multiple people/places that Latinos can take family /very/ seriously, and will judge dating prospects based on how they treat their family, and stuff like that.
The problem is: for lots of reasons, I really don’t get along with my family. I don’t talk to my dad or sister at all (he’s a cheater, she’s manipulative), and my mum only occasionally (she’s just as bad as my sister, but I find it easier to forgive her because mother). The only person I talk to often and genuinely care entirely for is my brother, and therefore my sister-in-law and my nephew. I’m worried words will get spoken behind my back, or her family will make assumptions.
Don’t get me wrong, I /love/ my girlfriend’s family. Her mother made me coffee the first time I met her, showed me how to cook some of my girlfriend’s favourites, constantly asks about me, and is in general lovely. Her dad is a little less involved, but still a lovely guy, and we love to drink together and watch baseball. Her aunt is the sweetest. I have nothing against her side of the family that I’ve met, and they all seem to like me, but I’m not sure how it might go down later when they find out I just don’t really care for mine.
I’d really appreciate some advice or reassurance. Please feel free to ask questions!

I also enjoy doing photography and have recently started thinking about more landscape/urban photography. I'd like to do more photography but I don't really feel comfortable being alone when I do it so a partner to do some together would be awesome!
I also do enjoy gaming, my main ones are Destiny 2, and rainbow six siege, (for those wondering my highest rank is diamond 3 (when rank actually meant something lol)) and I play heaps more but I can't think of them off the top of my head haha! I mentioned before about buying my dream car, I love JDM cars and unfortunately haven't been to a car meet in over a year now. As for what I look like I'm 5"11' brown hair that touches my shoulders and never acts normally. I am 75 ish kg and I have brown eyes. That's a basic description of me but if you want a picture that's not an issue..

I am learning about the practice of hope. When I relied on drinking to not be alone, I felt most alone and isolated. I felt completely hopeless.
I believe to practice hope is to continue along a path that will lead to change even though I might not know the outcome, be present for the change or be able to control it. To me It is about remaining sober, having courage to continue to face the ups and downs that come with this life.

**Welcome to the 24 hour pledge!**
I'm pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.
Maybe you're new to /stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you're like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you've been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.
It doesn't matter if you're still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!
