What are your top 3 favorite Farcry games?
My personal list is,
1: Farcry 4
2: Farcry 6
3: Farcry 3
Farcry 4 in my opinion had the best setting with the player being in the country of Kyrat which is based loosely on real places like India and Tibet. It also has a great storyline overall and 3 different endings. The Valley of the Yeti's DLC was a real blast aswell (there's a reference there somewhere). I also loved the co-op mode even though I mostly play single player. My biggest dislike were the endings, and strangely enough (spoiler ahead)
I liked the secret ending where you sided with Pagan Min more than I did with either Amita or Sabal.
Farcry 6 is probably the most fun Farcry to play regarding action and some of the most interesting regarding the storyline, and that Is saying a lot. Yara is the country that is played on and is based on Cuba. The storyline here is fantastic and the Supremos add more flaire to combat. It had memorable characters like Tigre, Paz, and the Montegos. You can also modify your weapons using scrap from the scopes to the bullet types. You could also modify in some of the other games, but this one feels the most immersive and gives more options.
Facry 3 introduced Hurk. Enough said.

Having trouble displaying equirectangular environment map as a skybox
Hi!
What I am trying to achieve is to load equirectangular HDR texture and display it as a skybox/cubemap.
There is quite a bit of materials available online that help with some of those steps, but so far I haven't seen anything covering it end to end so I am struggling and experimenting. I got stuck on two problems:
  1. When I parse HDR texture and read from it, I am getting color information only in green channel. I am using third party library. I checked that for example top left corner of the array matches what I see in the image when opening it elsewhere so I am fairly confident that the issue comes from the way I load it.
  2. I am trying to follow a method from this tutorial: https://learnopengl.com/PBIBL/Diffuse-irradiance#:~:text=From%20Equirectangular%20to%20Cubemap, with rendering the cubemap 6 times, each time using different view matrix and rendering different side. Unfortunately I am misusing WebGPU API somehow and end up getting the same matrix applied to all edges.
HDR loading problem.

Maybe bytesPerRow is wrong? I can also use 16 there. Anything above that is giving me WebGPU warning about buffer sizes. However I am not sure how 16 could make sense here. But on the other hand I have Float32Array. I am not sure if I can rely on automatic conversion to happen here...

I think I am using the API somewhat wrong. My assumption was that: I can render to just one side of the cubemap leaving the rest intact and I can do it in a loop where I replace the shader in uniform buffer before each rendering.
But somehow it's not working. Maybe I am using the createView function wrong in this loop. Maybe writing buffer like this is wrong.

Summary

This ended up a bit lengthy. So to restate: I know I am doing (at least) two things wrong:
  • Reading HDR texture to GPU and equirectangular texture to cubemap (I couldn't find any materials online to reference).
  • Rendering to cubemap face by face (it's likely me misunderstanding WebGPU API).
I hope someone knowledgeable about WebGPU will be able to give some tips.

TW: Depression/Sicde
My homeschooling journey has gone miserably downhill the last few years. I'm in my (first) senior year of highschool. (Next year will be my second because I've fallen behind in this environment.)
I started in public school. It was a really good school, too. But in 4th grade, due to a lot of different factors, I became depressed and suicidal. I had already been struggling with anxiety my entire life. School became so stressful. I felt so overwhelmed in that environment. I begged my parents to homeschool me. They didn't even want to to begin with! They had (very valid) concerns about me not getting a full education or not being properly socialized.
But I begged and begged and finally wore them down. They started homeschooling me in March of 4th grade.
In 5th grade, I started going to a co-op that worked really well for me initially. It was, however, a super conservative, toxic Christian environment that I didn't realize was negatively affecting me until later. But mainly, it provided weekly structure and much better friendships than I had in public school.
I got kicked out of the co-op after 9th grade when I came out as trans, so 10th grade year was a scramble to do every subject ourselves. It was just reading textbooks. I was so isolated. I auditioned for a musical and we had rehearsals 2x a week for a few months, but that was all the socialization I had. Also, it was during the pandemic, so we weren't allowed to hang around after and talk.
11th grade, I started a dual credit program online that I was supposed to do for 2 years and get an associates degree. But it was literally just reading. I fell super behind. I also joined a new co-op that year and will be going into my 3rd year. It's been great, but not enough interaction.
When I was younger, my mom would threaten to send me back to public school because she "couldn't take it"/"couldn't handle me." (For the record, my parents were mentally abusive even without homeschooling.) I didn't want that! I wanted to be homeschooled.
To this day, I'm convinced if I had stayed at my public school, I would have killed myself. So I feel like I needed homeschooling. But it also screwed me up so badly.
My parents didn't choose to homeschool me for religious reasons. The Christian homeschool aspect was sort of separate from their intentions.
It's frustrating because it feels like I have no one to blame but myself for the situation I'm currently in. Homeschooling sucks and I can't believe I chose to homeschool myself /jk

Hello Plumli! First of all, please tell us a little bit about yourself, and how do you feel about getting in the spotlight for Bungie’s AANHPI Heritage Month?
Hi, I'm Plumli and I'm excited to be here to talk about video games, art, and AANHPI stuff. Those are pretty much the only three things I ever talk about.
As my Twitter profile says, I am a part-time con artist and full-time Rob Liefield apologist. I'm one of those people you see selling art under a tower of posters at anime conventions. The second part of my job description is more aspirational, I'm actually a full-time graphic designer, and I wish I could be paid to be Rob's defense attorney. I'm also an Asian American who draws Guardians.
Your art has been nothing short of phenomenal, what got you into Destiny?
I started playing during the Destiny 2 beta. I've always gotten motion sickness easily, so I was very wary of playing an FPS. But from the moment I started, I noticed how absolutely buttery smooth the movement and POV was. I thought I was going to get into Destiny because I love the aesthetic of armored bounty hunters in a far-flung future, but no; it's how good it feels to just walk around and click heads. As for drawing Destiny, I had been involved in fandom culture and internet art for a long time, so when Forsaken rolled around, I figured I was obsessed enough that I should start drawing it. Also, I saw Byf's video on the Book of Sorrow and it was like brain worms.

As we all know, the stories and characters in Destiny encompass a wide range of AANHPI heritages and cultures. Are there any specific ones that you’re most fond of?
When Drifter was introduced, I noticed a lot of people had the same reaction I did. This guy looks like the fun uncle everyone has, but he has been in trouble with the law too many times for comfort. He is the uncle relatives tell you not to end up like. He's the guy who rolls up to your parent’s house after three years of no contact with a get-rich-quick scheme. I love him. There's a Malfeasance ornament called the Red String of Fate which has Drifter's signature rustic jade look. In folklore, the Red String of Fate ties destined lovers together. The Drifter is a character who has run away from his fate from the very moment he opened his eyes; his fate as one of the Traveler’s chosen, the selected prophet of the Nine, and of course, the final fate that awaits all. The jade coin motif is quite cool too, after all, what's the difference between luck and destiny?
Characters like him flesh out Destiny as a world where even after all countries erode away and we huddle together for warmth under a cold unknowable god, our cultures and way of life will be given to the people of the future. It's in our clothes, the art on our objects, and the stories we tell.

As an artist, have you ever felt that connection between your artwork and your heritage? What inspires you the most in delivering your personal taste when making Destiny 2 fan arts?
For me, art has always been a way to be closer to my culture and to connect to people who have similar experiences to me. I make a lot of nostalgic art and objects based on food items and nursery rhymes, so sometimes when people come by my table at events and tell me about memories of drinking chrysanthemum tea from a juice box as a child. Non-Asian people would sometimes come by and tell me about how much they love condensed milk on bread. It's simple interactions like those that remind me to be happy, not only for the life we have lived but for the people that lived it with us.
As for the second part of the question, I really love the armor design of Destiny 2. I love exploring the details and design choices for the armor sets I draw—I spend so much time trying to nail the littlest of details. Destiny armor is so rich in eclecticism, references, and design lore I love it. For example, the gear from the Moon features contemporary-looking clothing and weapons covered in knots, rags, feathers, and strange talismans. It suggests to me Golden-Age astronauts joined a voodoo cult to exorcise demons from the abyss—with guns. At the risk of making people who hate the fact I just mentioned the Dreambane set question my personal taste even more, my favorite armor set of all time is Scatterhorn. It looks like my Warlock crawled through a dumpster behind a Fallen cantina that definitely does not have an alcohol license. It says a lot about what kind of place the Tangled Shore is. Destiny 2 players feel strongly about what armor sets they like and do not like, and I think that speaks strongly to how diverse and imaginative these sets are. In Destiny 2, you can roleplay as a space marine, pretend you're front-row Paris Couture, be a cowboy, an occultist, the knight in shining armor, or glow with the strength of a thousand Gambit Jadestones.

Not to exaggerate with stereotypes, but I guess we’re all familiar with how Asian parents often get wary about their kids making art or playing video games. Have your parents been through a similar dilemma? What does your heritage mean to you as an artist and a video game player?
I'm sure every immigrant's kid by the age of 16 has thoroughly psychoanalyzed the geo-social-economical-cultural-political conditions of their parents' upbringing enough to write several university papers on it, so I don't think I need to go too deep into what makes Asian parents the way they stereotypically are. In short, many immigrants want the world for their children, but the path to the world is very narrow, defined, and with a clear purpose to them. Playing video games after school at a friend’s house and drawing anime in secret notebooks is definitely not part of the path.
Contrary to my parents' anxieties, art and video games have given me pretty much all my job opportunities, and life-long friends and led to some pretty amazing experiences. I grew up in a mixed low-income neighborhood. In high school, me and my friends (all of different races, backgrounds, and abilities) would all sit around the library computers watching Halo machinimas and talking about video games, anime, and comic books. In my experience, I have always found the nerd community more accepting of minorities and LGBTQ folks. All this stuff we love connects us to vastly different groups and gives us a way to be a part of the world.
Are there any fellow AANHPI artists who you’re particularly inspired by, or any fellow AANHPI community artists who you’d like to shout out?
Honestly, I feel really uncomfortable answering this question because I know a lot of artists are very defensive about their identities for safety reasons. A lot of my art is about my Asian-ness and I do in-person events so it's not like I can hide my ethnicity. I know for a fact a lot of people in the Destiny 2 art community are AANHPI, but I don't want to name anyone without warning.
You mentioned you’re a graphic designer and love our newsletters, what game stats do you enjoy being recognized for?
My favorite stat is "most used Exotic." I switch things up so much every Season, it delights me to see something I haven't used in months top the list, and I can remember all the good memories of getting a shiny new Exotic and falling in love with it. Or alternatively the time I finally got the Graviton Lance catalyst that can only be completed by cosmology kills. But this was after its nerf, so I put in a lot of extra effort because I was convinced hey... when Void 3.0 comes out maybe this gun will be really cool right? Right!?

2023.05.31 18:56 captainmorgan91 Goodbye Destiny, Hello Divsion - A minor rant I felt like getting out.

This such a different community than Destiny 2. In that game, if your power level isn't high enough or you dont have some super rare piece of gear that is locked behind a pay wall or RNG, people won't even invite you to play with them. The people who see themselves as "destiny professionals" and play the game for 10+ hours a day gate keep everything super hard. But not everyone has the time or even wants to play any game for that long. There are a ton more issues with that game/community but I wont go into that right meow.

Compared to this community where my experience has been nothing short of fantastic. Players always willing to share knowledge and be helpful, no one says "you cant play with us because you dont have the buttlicker3000 with .00000015% more dps", no one has sent me hate messages because im too low of a level for an activity, and best of all? I can do MOST of this game solo and I am not forced to go into matchmaking if I don't want to.

Of course, this is just my anecdotal experience. But I am relaxed and enjoying myself far more in my mere 60 hours of Divsion playtime compared to my 2500+ hours in Destiny.

I know toxicity exhisits in every community but here it just seems less frequent (at least to me).

2023.05.31 18:51 osmylm2834 About Nekki's laziness and the current state of Shadow Fight 3

Criticism about current state of the game.
-Story (spoilers!):
A total downgrade from Marcus' Plane where we met various new characters/bosses as well as new locations. 90% of the chapter is about fighting same enemies we fought before in the known locations. Fighting as other characters sure felt good, but it didn't feel much unique because of the things I said.
We weren't able to discover the world of Shadow's Descendant at all. As I said most of the chapter is about past and it is boring and lazy choice for me.
There were 4 new bosses for this Chapter. Which is actually ok for a single Chapter but 2 of them are just downgraded SFA characters (Midnight and Lynx). And the other 2 (Stranger and Mnemos) didn't felt unique gameplay-wise, let me explain:
Mnemos wields Composite Sword with Dadao and Katana mix moves with a goofy jump "special" ability. They will release Composite Sword's own style later.
Stranger surely felt unique atmosphere-wise but I can't tell the same in gameplay. He is nothing more than a Herald with a katana and Shadow Mind's abilities. And his so called special shadow abilities are just a rush with the Katana and Deactivation. I expected much more from Stranger after seeing what they have done with Titan in SF2 and Shadow boss fights.
-Raids:
This mode totally flipped down the game's balance orders. They release extremely overpowered sets but there are still few strategies working (most of the time TN does the job). When they nerf or buff a set/perk, it either becomes too OP and abusable for events/story or too weak for Raids (examples: Arrow and Guardian Dragon).
First 3 bosses they released were simply recolors of existant sets and even the one location for 3 bosses is a recolor of Dynasty Palace.
-Current event:
Butcher's avatar has literally taken from SFA and it doesn't fit SF3's artstyle (seriously, it looks like a mod). And this is a first from Nekki, they were lazy to remaster an existing avatar using SF3 artstyle.
"New" shadow abilities don't look polished at all. It is clear that they were lazy to make new animations, weapon's shadow ability is just Dynasty jump kick and Rift mix. Hook shadow ability is the same attack with a kick in the end.
"New" weapon is 90% axes and they know it, they know Butcher's moveset is a remaster of Axes moves of SF3 but they still introduce it like a "new" style.
Butcher boss fight is a joke. The "cage" doesn't work like SFA where it is actually a cage I don't think it is a bug because in the bonus description it says «You can create a cage that deals damage to your opponent when they touch it. As long as the cage stands, you deal increased damage and receive reduced damage». So it is basically a damaging aura that looks like a cage. Also, why are Butcher's and set's resolution 144P or is it just me?
-Copy-Paste sets from SFA:
Champion of the Pit: They used this set to introduce Knuckles style and they were lazy to make new animation for its shadow ability as well. Ground slam shadow ability of the set still doesn't have any SFX.
Lynx: The set bonus is just Steel Sakura but better. Lynx himself doesn't even have most of his SFA abilities (toy with food shadow ability added later for the adventure).
Raven of the Looming Night: Probably the most legit copy paste. However, the set bonus is just Ling but better (which actually makes sense but you know).
Wrath Demon: I already explained above
Anyways, I want to say a few things about SFA. What I like about SFA devs is that they are not lazy to polish stuff. If they release a new character, it really feels new and unique with animations or SFX (Yunlin, Itu) even if they use some of SF3 assets which is ok in my eyes since they are doing it properly. They are not lazy to make a new skin every month. Yes there are recolors but you can agree with that they really put some work in new skins. They also release new taunts, stances, win poses with cool animations every month.
When it comes to SF3, what is the last original set came to the game? Stranger which has taken from the final boss of the game and it doesn't even introduce a new style. Wolf Leader was the last original set that came to the game with new Knife and Battle Horn weapons. Battle horn's shadow ability is basically normal horn but with a knockdown in the end. But the set itself is original with the design and SFX of the horn so it is at least fine for me.
I am not saying that they should release new sets every week but if you plan about releasing something, do it properly.

I have been in severe pain since round 2 in July 2021 and unable to walk at all. I had weakness and nerve issues since original round of COVID in Feb 2020. For the first time my leg isn’t 27/10 pain. One day post op! Below the knee amputation and my leg/nerves are being dissected by NIH for research. If you have similar issues I hope it helps you!

RPGs are my favorite genre. I’ve played everything from Baldur’s Gate to Final Fantasy 4 to Diablo 1. I even played WoW for Fnatic way back in the early 2000s, but my favorite genre of RPGs are ARPGs by far. I’ve tried them all from Titan Quest to Last Epoch, and have thousands of hours in D3 and PoE.
There’s something magical about finding that sweet item and designing your build around it. BTW, if you are a person who likes to play blind, I respect that, and even plan to do that myself. I only do SSF in other ARPGs. We have created awesome assets that help you break down the game and construct builds, like this comprehensive mechanics infographic, with many more to come.
We have an amazing team dedicated to pouring their passion into our gaming companion for all games. If you have seen any of our recent work in Destiny 2 or Lost Ark, then you’ll understand what we are about. Our goal is to bring high-quality content that anyone can take their appropriate level of depth from.

I realize we are standing on the shoulders of giants here with amazing content from groups like Icy Veins and Maxroll (that I have used exhaustively over the last few years- thanks Wudijo and Rax <3), but we want to contribute more options, which is always great for the community IMO.

We wanted to start by getting everyone amazing builds they can browse easily and load onto an in-game overlay for ease of use. Specifically, we wanted to give great creators a place to post cheat sheet style guides for people to reference or use to compliment their longform videos.

That’s why we teamed up with veteran creators like Kripp and Don the Crown, along with newcomers like Goblin Inc (who you may have seen in a few collabs we have done, like their Damage Buckets video which contributed to the overall body of research breaking down damage optimization). There are many more awesome people joining us, so hopefully everyone will find something they love.
Finally, this is just our first step in fighting off the forces of hell. Give us your feedback, tell us what you want, tell us what sucks (constructive is appreciated!), and we will take it to heart and get to work on it. Like many of you, I can’t wait to play and start this long journey together!
