Even backstage, the roaring sound of the audience is almost deafening. With the shouting and jeering, it's hard not to feel the adrenaline pumping through my body while i await the fate of the contestant ahead of you. Collectively, they start counting down the clock, the dramatic music rising in intensity as they approach the end of the clock. In a dramatic twist, however, the clock stops, the crowd starting to boo and jeer loudly, clearly disappointed. She failed. A production assistant walks up to me, adding a bit of final make-up. She smiles, almost reassuringly. "You're up after the break. Just relax, don't let the audience intimidate you, just do your best."
As the crowd settles down, the commercial break currently airing, i see the previous contestant walk down the corridor. A busty woman in a suit is standing center stage, inviting me to stand next to her, while the audience claps politely upon my entry. The music ends, the lights focused on me and the presenter of this wicked show. She smiles, before turning to camera 4. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Gauntlet. Ashley didn't make the cut, but don't worry, we've got a fresh contestant lined up for you." She turns towards me. points towards camera 3. "Please, tell the audience who you are and why you're running the Gauntlet today?"

I’m considering buying a GT but keep seeing things about getting new footpads, tire, and potentially surestart by TFL. I’m a bit confused about the footpads and tire specifically since people say to slap on a flat pad for better starts and swap out FM’s tire for something else for a smoother ride. How necessary are these things? I’m a bit reluctant to drop $2200 on a machine that then requires an additional $300-400 in accessories and modifications to be enjoyable.

I just finished this a couple days ago, curious to know others' opinions.
I thought there were quite a few genuinely creepy images/scenarios in the book. And I liked that the creepy stuff starts right away and does not let up. One of my favorite moments was when Felix imagines the Imposter creature laying under his bed smiling up at him and Faye. Spooky!
BUT
I found a lot of the writing to lack tension. The descriptions of creepy stuff were good, but the lead up and general atmosphere read like someone reading off a shopping list or something, idk, until the end when the writing becomes a bit overwrought and melodramatic.
I disliked the author using his own name in the book, a name which sounds like an edgy girl's masculine pen name. lol sorry. And it read like his fiancée was holding a gun to his head as he wrote, like she was just super ultra special and sooo unique.
The use of the phrase "my fiancée" when referring to Faye was so gratuitous and got on my nerves! I would have replaced 95% of them with her name or just simply she/her once it's been established that she is his fiancée. I kept thinking, "We get it dude, someone agreed to marry you." And on a related note, I thought the way he referred to the ranger and Faye's parents to be weird at times too. Like referring to Faye's father by his first name all the time instead of "Faye's father"; overall the writing needed a better editor.
And Jesus Christ the ending and big reveal of What Makes 5 was incredibly bad! I had read a bunch of reviews here saying the ending is terrible, but I was not prepared for that. Wow. Monsters and paranormal stuff were fine, but I just could not believe that a young child would be so sensitive to and messed up by her mother's miscarriage?? Maybe I'm just cold and callous and jaded but I don't believe a kid that young would be able to comprehend or truly care, let alone drag it around like some immense unbearable psychological weight all these years. I could understand if the family had lost a young child, like a brother that Faye actually knew and had bonded with, but this was just way overdramatic imo.
...And the big climax is that she just... tells the Imposter her mom had a miscarriage and it stops tormenting her??? The End, voilà, bad guy is defeated! after the fucking monster tells her something like "I've walked across the darkness thousands of years to find you." ?????? Just no.
Absolutely lazy and cringeworthy Big Reveal™️, climax, and end.

I wanted to highlight a new tool I've been working on for interacting with World of Warships assets called wowsunpack: https://github.com/landaire/wowsunpack

Who is this for?

Primarily data miners and folks who work on applications that depend on game assets/definitions such as the Minimap Renderer. My hope is this can speed up workflows and result in richer applications in the ecosystem.

WG already has a tool for this -- why make a new one?

To quote the project's README:

World of Warships game files are packed in two custom file formats -- .idx files and .pkg files. .idx files contain serialized resource and volume (.pkg) metadata. There exists an official utility provided by the game developer, Wargaming, but has the following drawbacks compared to this utility:

• Is not open-source
• This utility's backing library can be easily adopted into other applications that would like to directly read game data
• Slower (~2x using the CLI tool, ~6x using the GUI)
• Does not expose meta information about the resources
• Does not expose data in a machine-serializable format

The first two points are the big motivator for development of this utility. Applications like minimap_renderer depend on game assets and reading these assets isn't easily automated with today's tools.

My utility has the following features:

• Directly read and convert GameParams.data to JSON
• Dump IDX file resource metadata to a serialized format (JSON or CSV)
• Extract game assets using glob file patterns
• Core logic can be used as a library by other applications

Some planned features include:

• Parsing assets.bin. I stumbled across this format while reverse engineering the IDX format and saw that this seems to be largely unexplored (publicly at least?).
• C FFI
• Refactoring of library APIs

How to I get it?

You can download prebuilt binaries here: https://github.com/landaire/wowsunpack/releases
It's a CLI application with the following commands:

Usage: wowsunpack [OPTIONS]  Commands: extract Extract files to an output directory metadata Write meta information about the game assets to the specified output file. This may be useful for diffing contents between builds at a glance. Output data includes file name, size, CRC32, unpacked size, compression info, and a flag indicating if the file is a directory game-params Special command for directly reading the `content/GameParams.data` file, converting it to JSON, and writing to the specified output file path help Print this message or the help of the given subcommand(s) Options: -p, --pkg-dir  Directory where pkg files are located. If not provided, this will default relative to the given idx directory as "../../../../res_packages" -i, --idx-files  .idx file(s) or their containing directory -h, --help Print help -V, --version Print version 

It can operate within the game's root directory without needing to supply any of the global flags (idx files/pkg dir).
For example if you want to extract content/GameParams.data and convert to JSON with the application in the game root, run:

> wowsunpack.exe game-params 

This will place a GameParams.json file in the game root.
If you want to dump specific files:

> wowsunapack extract "gui/achievements/*" "gui/ribbons/*" ./res 

Any files matched under the path gui/achievements and gui/ribbons will then be written to the res directory.

Hello all,
I cleared Kor Dragan and only had the boss to beat. Then the game crashed and now the stronghold counts as liberated, but monsters still spawn inside. The growths used to progress the liberation of the stronghold are gone, so essentially now the stronghold is like any regular part of the map.
Any thoughts on how to solve it? Besides erasing the character and waiting for a patch, obviously...

Hi all, I'm looking to get into the game to fulfill my 1v1 competitive needs. Already tried to play ~last year, first with Unchained then Earth Machines. Well wasn't really fun to me. Unchained felt pretty under-powered when I had 1 Monster vs omni-negates on board. So my friends advised me to play a combo deck myself, thus my try at Earth Machines. Still wasn't really fun to me taking long turns or getting disrupted then doing nothing. All in all, I felt I wasn't playing a deck I liked. I've always been an aggro player in all the tcg I played: - Burn / Prowess in Modern Magic - Bastion in Vanguard D - Dash in Flesh&Blood
So is Yugioh just not for me or is there a deck that's pretty aggressive without a tons of combo lines and an obbligation to know all the cards played ?

People having similar experiences are at least talking now. They got a fluid weapon (possibly). Randall seems like a smart guy.
But the last scene! I first thought it was the old lady cause of wrinkles, I then thought no cause every monster has wrinkles. And then I thought Fatima (she can’t have a kid cause she is a monster - who can turn to one at will), but I checked and they were wearing different colored florals.
But whoever it is, it looks like a different class of monster (or representing a different class of monsters since music box means a hallucination) because it has better eye structure than the other monsters and mouth doesn’t look very worm like. So I guess we’re going to see a really good spike in the horror part now.

In my sci-fi/cosmic horror story, an anomaly gives many people abilities. My working name for them is the altered but I’m open to changing it if anyone has suggestions. While some were given preferable powers and changes many of these came with downsides. Any questions or suggestions on this group are appreciated.
Altered powers range from being able to control energy to communicating with animals. Abilities can be more abstract like the power to induce madness or communicating with space. One trait the altered all share is the power to combine their abilities into a singular skill. Deemed “resonance” this can allow any number of altered to blend powers as long as they have synergy. An example is one who controls fire and another ice working together to form electricity.
Many powers come with downsides as a side effect of how they work. Someone who can fly for example creates a personal gravity field that negates the surrounding force. While you can fly you can’t touch the ground without using something to weigh yourself like special shoes. Some energy powers require you to exude that same energy cause you can’t just pull that out of nowhere thanks to physics. Someone who controls fire may be perpetually on fire and need heat-resistant clothing. While some may have the same power the way it manifests would dictate whether or not you could have a side-effect.
Another issue is the matter of physiology changes. Some altered have different looks which can range from green skin to animal-like attributes. This physiology switch can range from needing to breathe carbon monoxide or having a different diet. Someone given the quality of a koala now can only eat plants as meat could be lethal. Another problem that comes from this is body dysmorphia. Having your appearance changed can result in many not liking the result. One of my characters is currently struggling to reconcile his self-worth with his pangolin-like appearance.
As the world struggles to deal with the changes caused by the Anomaly like monsters and strange phenomena the altered have been forced to deal with added weight. From getting treatment to managing their powers or therapy to process the change things have been shaky so far. A huge issue is the matter of altered trafficking which involves kidnapping altered to act as things like indentured servants, unethical lab rats, or even just cage fighters for the criminal underworld.

Intro
First of all I would like to say I played all the blizzard games and that they were a big part of my early teen years. Diablo 2 was the greatest of all time to me (possibly still is). Diablo 2 resurrected was fun and exciting for me but it quickly became boring and repetitive once the nostalgia wore off. The only other game that has kept me coming back for more is Path of Exile. For 9 years now and it definitely has its issues but it truly feels the best it’s ever been. So when I heard about Diablo 4 my first thought was, it’s about time. I felt blizzard had to have learned a lot from the success of POE and the mistakes that were made with Diablo 3 so I pre purchased the game for $89.99 to get early access. I played both beta weekends, started with the sorcerer and played all the classes by the second weekend and it left me having doubts. Now that we are 2 days in with early access here are my final thoughts/Takes.
I started with the necromancer this time. I had are hard time choosing, I think It's because none of the charaters stood out to me and the class controversy surrounding them had me questioning.
The Good
The game looks and feels great, Dare I say better then POE. The sound and music are good. The voice acting and cut scenes are the best. Boss fights in general are way better then I was expecting. I know this isn't a lot to say about whats good with the game. There is a reason for that I will explain.
The Bad
The skill tree is too linear and really most of the skills we have seen before. Skeletons?, Chain lighting?, were-bear form? Ok I guess, I just wanted to feel something more fresh. All the rogue skills feel the same (although I won't pretend to be the expert with that I didn't play rogue much). Overall the classes and skills are disappointing. The way items and monsters scale in this game is very concerning to me. Ultimately I felt the same power level from 1 to 30, which is were I'm at currently at with the necromancer. The monetization in this game is bad. There is just about ever type you can possibly have in this game. I just have to say I can see future paragon boards for sale, I know it may be too soon to say but at a minimum of $69.99, knowing for fact future expansions will also cost money, and having a cash shop is more towards the dark side IMO. The QOL that is held back in the game like a map overlay is puzzling to me but maybe not when you consider the pervious sentences.
The Middle
Here is were I explain for the lack of "Good" in this game. The middle contains things that aren't really bad they just aren't good either. Potions have the potential to shine although it’s concerning to be able to craft xp boost ones (who is that for? To make us play longer?). Open world wasn’t really open like I thought or hoped for because to me you have to go through the story no matter what at least the first time. On top of that the narrow walkways are constant in this game which make different areas feel same. Copy and paste sprinkle a different mob.
In closing
I want to like Diablo 4 and I hope it dose well. I have stopped playing it for now. I feel this game is overall a dull expirence and I just can’t see playing it when I already have the time invested into a already established game like Path of exile. I also can’t shake the feeling that one of two things are going on with Diablo 4.
1= the devs have so much held back, like the QOL, that they already have ready for future expansions/ seasons to make money, to time gate, to get you to play longer.
2= none of what I said in one is true and they just built a great foundation for a game they want to build on for years to come.
