After a 1940 defined by gathering strengths and refinement across the feature, the early months of 1941 bring a few troubling portents behind-the-scenes for Fox's affectionately termed Grainy Gladiator. Nothing ruinous in itself, but signs of an upcoming radical shift away from what the character represented to start.
For one, the April issue of Adventure Comics (#61) brings with it a new cover feature, Ted Knight AKA Starman, courtesy writer-artist Jack Burnley. Already the second lengthiest entry in the book at nine pages, Starman quickly managed what neither Sandman nor Hourman could during their respective years as star attractions and upgraded to a full thirteen pages by his third appearance in #63. For context, Sandman only went from six pages to ten with its upgrade, while Hourman has remained rockstaedy at eight pages, and neither took down another non-superhero supporting feature to justify the page increase like Starman did Barry O'Neil and Mark Lansing. Moreover, from Starman's second appearance on, he is only drawn by Burnley; writing duties now belong to the Sandman's own Gardner Fox.
Which loops in with two other issues at play over Wesley's tossing, turning figure. Starting with issue #61, available online sources no longer fully agree who wrote what for the Sandman feature. You must understand, outside superstar figures with major pull like the creators of Superman or Batman, very few creative teams are properly credited in these Golden Age comics - my credits the last few posts have all been crossreferenced across numerous wikis and databases who owe their credits to investigative work by fans like Jerry Bails back in the 1960s. Such work was sadly not exhaustive, and while a few places (like DC Continuity Project and Wikipedia) state or else imply Fox stayed on as writer for the next few issues, from June to November there is no consensus as to who penned the stories.
I shouldn't be surprised if Fox's involvement terminated with the March issue, for April also saw All-Star Comics shift its format slightly, with Fox writing all nine interior stories for the 64 page mag in addition to his duties on the longer Starman feature. Man would have to work double time to keep pace, even if Sandman didn't drop to eight pages with #62 in May. Either way, Fox is certainly gone following #64 in July, as that issue features the final story drawn by regular artist and co-creator Creig Flessel, who departs to work on Shining Knight later in the year. As I say, things are changing fast for Sandman, and not all changes seem necessarily for the better. Best, however, to take the stories on their own level before drawing any final conclusions!

ADVENTURE COMICS #58 (January)

Orchids of Doom - Gardner Fox, Creig Flessel, Chad Grothkopf

Once again, a socialite friend to Wes and Dian is at the center of a minor mystery with big implications - namely, how can Pedro Nogades, father to Carla, rightly claim he breeds otherwise purely wild orchids in captivity? Investigating as the Sandman, Wes and Dian find a dead man in the Nogades greenhouse with his head stripped to the bone, and in following another fellow who sniffed an orchid before promising a shipment of such to some ruffians on the bad side of town, see his own face dissolve to bare skull. A visit to the police chemist reveals the orchids on the dead men's persons were laced to release a deadly flesh-eating gas on exposure to natural air, which is enough probably cause for Wesley to enlist Carla's boyfriend Bill in staging a raid on the Nogades manor. Some close shaves and fisticuffs end with the group discovering a diorama of the local coast, laid out to assist enemy agents in an invasion. Pedro is put away and the orchids revealed as concealing microfilm copies of the coastal plans, but how do we square the mystery that started it all? Simple: Nogades was no botanist, and called the flower by the wrong name when concocting his cover story!
An alright yarn to kick of the calendar year. As per usual when Fox tries for a somewhat complicated mystery, he's no adequate means of tying off loose ends other than large blocks of text, but it's lively and keeps the situation evolving with decent justifications for mid-story action and dragging Bill along for further fisticuffs. Hooking the entire mystery on, "Oh, the bad guy misspoke," is a tad lame, if understandable in the context of Fox's passion for slipping general knowledge flexes into his stories. Flessel and Grothkopf get some good mileage out've the skull imagery that crops up whenever the flower kills, and I rather like the brief bout of fisticuffs towards the end. The minor social awkwardness when Bill gets in the car with Wes and Dian is pretty good too, and I'm sorry to report I can't add this story to the "Wesley getting shot" count, as the bad guy only plugs his hat. Kinda funny having a Golden Age Sandman story involving orchids given Neil's own pre-Sandman work with Black Orchid, innit?

ADVENTURE COMICS #59 (February)

The Story of the Flaming Ruby - Fox, Flessel, Grothkopf

There exists a ruby of blazing red, which has driven men to rage and madness wherever it appears, and today it sits in the hand of a young man in the local jeweler's shop, who flashes it cross Dian's vision. Later in the evening, she wakes in a trance consumed with the urge to kill her father, stopped only by Sandman as he rushes in from investigating a similarly queer case. A bank teller friend from his private life has found himself driven to steal from the vault and deliver it to some crooks on a lonely road every night, all after one of those men flashed him the ruby. Wes and Dian are unable to stop this night's transaction (on account of the ruby briefly turning Dian against Sandman), but seeing the gem in action gives Wes an idea on how to counteract its effects, and go into battle during the next drop armed with blue cobalt glasses. A brawl puts down all the blackmailers except one, but Wes opts instead to go after the head of the operation, knocking him out and lurking in the dark to catch the last as he reports in, revealing the bank teller! Turns out the ruby DOES have hypnotic properties and was used to assist their robberies, but the teller - hoping by playing at the victim to lure Sandman into his cohorts' midst and rub him out - spoke as if he remembered the whole experience, where Dian forgot herself on every exposure. Oops!
Same basic mystery structure and resolution type here as last month, complete with overly-wordy explanation, although I find the hook of pitting Dian and Wesley against one another gives it a minor leg up, as does the relatively straightforward nature of the criminal operation compared to planting microfilm in deadly flowers. There's a more even balance between the rush in bust 'em up style of crime-fighting the feature has developed and the stealthy skullduggery I think suits the character best, with nice action art to match each. Dian has some silly faces whenever she wakes from her hypnosis, and the four panel sequence of Wes halting her murder attempt works pretty well. This is, unfortunately, the final pencil-inking collaboration between Flessel and Grothkopf, and much as I've kvetched over the second man's solo work, I'm sorry to see the back of him in this capacity. When the two were in proper tune, they were the best artistic team Sandman enjoyed yet.
(Stop dodging bullets, I want to see you gunshot.)

Mystery at Malay Mac's - Fox, Grothkopf

^{Hey, a rare post-Hourman, pre-redesign cover appearance! That's always nice. "Hello, officer? Yeah, coupla chucklefucks right here, the alley off Fourth, can't miss 'em."}
What's this? Dian breaking into a notorious criminal slumlord's safe in the bad part of town? A safe, as Wes discovers after he scares the lady off, filled to the brim with poison gas! Evidently not, as Dian is sound asleep when Wes arrives at Belmont manor to investigate, and a subsequent visit to Mister Mac reveals the only person who'd know the safe was booby-trapped is a local kidnapping organizer. Some blind, flailing fists turns up the girl, Dian's perfect duplicate, snatched from out of state to replace Dian and gain leverage over the cops. Too bad the kidnapper's made of strong stuff, knocking out Sandman and taking both woman for a ride to get back at Mac. Fortunately, Dian leaves Wes a trail of jewelry out the window, enabling him to follow and take down all the crooks with one throw of his gas pistol, revealing in the process 'twas Mac himself who tipped Dian's duplicate to his safe, in hopes of spoiling his rival's big plot.
Art-wise, this is probably Grothkopf's best work for Sandman to date. His tendency to exaggerate is translated into some properly goonish faces for the villains and really, really strong action poses, with some properly atmospheric shots sprinkled in for good measure. He cannot draw the gasmask for piss, but there's such an improvement I almost thought this was a Flessel joint before checking the wiki credits. Makes me wish we could see what he'd do if he kept on as a solo artist - free from the impulse to treat the feature as a cartoon, he produces damn fine work. As a story, this makes good time to mention my misgivings with Wesley's tendency to burst through windows and start swinging long before he thinks to use his sleeping gas. While it's great fun to describe and hype up as the mark of a madman who's even cooler as the badass normal than Batman, it also encourages a faster degradation in the character's identity. I'm sure you'll notice it's been yonks since lurking in the shadows and thinning the ranks by knocking them out in advance has factored into the stories. That Wes handles the bad guy by literally clonking him over the head with the gas gun rather than pulling the trigger speaks to the influence other, punchier superhero features have exerted over the strip.

ADVENTURE COMICS #61 (April)

The Menace of the Metal Gun - Fox?, Flessel

From aboard a mysterious aircraft, a madman fires upon the city with a metal-melting ray that dissolves the skyscrapers into slag! Alerted to Doctor Borloff's activities, Wesley meets with swift defeat when the rogue scientist melts his gas gun and escapes in his cylindercraft to terrorize afresh. There IS a bright side, as seeing the ray firsthand gives Wesley some idea how to counteract its effects, and he sends Dian and her father warning for the local airforce to coat their planes in sand as a silicate buffer against the ray. Alas, only one officer heeds his message, leaving Sandman alone to get aboard the machine via his new wirepoon gun and defeat Borloff from within. For his brawling process, a good midflight fight is nothing if the hero gets tossed out an open door, but fortunately he can grapple onto the lone surviving plane, recover his bearings, zip back up, and put a stop to Borloff's dreams of world conquest once and for all!
Action is the name of the game here, and even without Grothkopf's inking enhancements, I think Flessel does a fine job on his own. I'm wary of the wirepoon in the future, as by year's end it will completely replace the gas gun as Sandman's sidearm of choice in further drift from the original Christman concept, but taken as a neutral in its debut, giving Sandman greater aerial mobility does lead to some cool shots and enhance the sense Wes goes stark bananas in the mask by pulling some stunts that would almost certainly pull his arms from their sockets in real life. There are, however, some particularly stiff action shots, and in one panel Flessel cocks up the design on the mask worse than Grothkopf last ish. Based on the opening vignette, Borloff decimated millions of innocent lives in addition to all the planes he melted out of the sky, making him easily the deadliest foe Wes has faced to date, and in turn making the "We did it, gang, everything is bright and peachy again!" ending sorta offputting. They'll have to organize mass funerals tomorrow, Wes. Show a little respect.

ALL-STAR COMICS #4 (April)

For America and Democracy: The Grey Shirts - Fox, Grothkopf

In the top-level story, the JSA learn of their mission for the FBI: a group of Nazi insurgents known as the Grey Shirts are plotting subversive and destructive activities all across America, and are now posed to badly destabilize the nation in a series of disruptive attacks. Each is assigned a mission at critical points cross the nation, though given the widely-ranging disparity in their powers, their usefulness to the cause varies equally wildly. The Atom humiliates some goons spreading Nazi ideology at a single college, Hawkman barely prevents the destruction of an aviation plant in California, and Hourman's defense of an Oklahoma oil field ends with him toppling one of the oil towers to stop his quarry. Meanwhile, Green Lantern detonates a zeppelin secretly jamming radio transmissions nationwide, the Spectre casually annihilates some otherworldly vampiric globes sympathetic to Hitler's cause, and Doctor Fate uses his magic to out every single spy on the eastern seaboard. Uneven efforts or not, the group converge on the Grey Shirts' ringleader, and with a little help from Johnny Thunder, turn him over to good ol' J. Edgar Hoover's custody. Alas, Wesley does not get the blood he's thirsting after.
(Also Doctor Fate alerts Wesley to the identity and location of the ringleader before his mission starts rather than letting him figure it out on his own like everyone else. Prick.)
For his six-page leg of the assignment, the Sandman is off to El Paso, Texas to assist a local newspaper under threat from the Grey Shirts for printing pro-democracy and anti-Hitler editorials. Of course, this being Wesley Dodds on the job, he gets this information by roughing his way into the newspaper offices, then acts on it by beating on the guard at the Grey Shirts' camp and pounding down a band of brainwashed young men to prove he's a better American than them. After sending the wannabe Nazis for a whirl by running their bomb shipment off the road, Wesley doubles back to completely break the recruits' spirits, daring them to prove their hard enough by shooting an unarmed man in Hitler's name, chiefly himself. When none can cut the mustard, he marches them back into town with collars strapped to his car, and inspires the lot to join the Army to a few shirtless bars of "God Bless America."
Cripes but jingoism produces some heady results, doesn't it? I'm not sure I can rightly condone the ridiculous levels of patriotism on display here, even against such classically anti-American enemies as Nazis, yet at the same time, look at this and tell me it isn't the hardest shit you'll see all week. Again, though I've my misgivings about Wes as a brawler no matter how entertaining the results prove, there's something endearing about him being so raring for a fight his first move is to altercate the receptionist at the place he's assigned to defend. On the whole, Grothkopf's final Sandman contribution also shows refinement from his earlier works, the broader, thicker elements of his linework now tempers on a somewhat more grounded approach. Certainly the Sandman himself keeps a consistent look better than he does in any other issue published thus far this year. I DO notice he reused Flessel's design for the District Attorney wholesale on the newspaper publisher. Since he's going and heading out on a job well done, let's not hold it against him, eh?

ADVENTURE COMICS #62 (May)

The Purple Death Ray - Fox?, Flessel

At the nightly planetarium show, a member of the audience screams and falls down dead, stricken by a litany of strange symptoms with no obvious cause. Wesley, believing the man was killed by a death ray, examines the auditorium's projector, only to find no obvious alterations or fault. Undeterred, he purchases himself a seat next to the murdered man's for the next show, which is now occupied by another fellow who received a last-second courtesy invitation. Acting quickly, the Sandman reexamines the projector from the shadows and finds a replacement bulb screwed into the socket pointed directly at the man's chair. With assistance from his wirepoon, Sandman swings down and wrenches the man from his seat just as the show starts, the bulb bathing his seat in deadly radiation. On learning the man is a former judge and the deceased a former DA, it's not long before Wes ferrets out the killer; it's the cashier, a former scientist sent to jail for misappropriating university funds years ago, out for revenge and now stopped cold.
See, while I'm skeptical about the growing presence of science-fiction elements in the series, they make fine fodder when they play to Sandman's strengths. Lurking high above a crowd of people seeking the answer to some deadly mystery is exactly Wes' bag, and plus or minus some strange mask drawings, Flessel captures that thrill of closely examining a big deadly machine in secret before it fires. I'd submit the page where Sandman saves the judge from the beam as an easy contender for best of the year thus far, and the shot where [Wes pushes Dian away from the killer's bullet](blob:https://imgur.com/7247f414-8a57-489f-a9bd-d85bc9e19a6a) is another fine piece of work. My memories of this one before sitting down to reread and write were a lot chillier, probably because I wish the series remained in crime pulp rather than raygun pulp, but a good outcome is a good outcome. Seriously, though, why is the mask going so bobble-eyed of late?

ADVENTURE COMICS #63 (June)

The Voodoo Sorcerer - ???, Flessel

As Dian and Wesley tiff over his interest in an exotic dancer they know through a mutual friend, the woman's tail-lashing dance is interrupted when she sees a great glowing triangle materialize before her eyes. With the shock straining her bad heart, the Sandman brings her to boyfriend's house, where he reveals the triangle is a voodoo witch doctor's means of accusing someone of murder - just as news comes over the wire that the man the woman lashed with her costume tail has died! Smelling a rat, Wes rushes to the scene of the crime to find the taile barbed with poison quills, only for the titular sorcerer to bumrush him out the window. It's a big misunderstanding, thankfully: he's as shocked by the murder as Sandman, and only summoned the triangle on suggestion from an acquaintance, forgetting the dancer would know its significance through her partner. By happiest coincidence, this provides Wesley the solution to the mystery right quick, for only his friend's chauffeur would have motive, opportunity, and knowledge to frame his employers and their associates for the murder of a stock broker who owed them money.
Hmm, ah, see, on the one hand, it IS nice that the voodoo guy is innocent of everything except a lapse in judgement and the real twist is an unassuming little man exploiting the mystery and fears around his craft to cast suspicion off his person. On the other hand, eek, yike, zoinks! None good. Bad, even. Outside unfortunate depictions of non-white persons from the 1940s, the story's pretty weak for a murder mystery, as numerous elements are evidently known to the characters well in advance, yet only made clear to the reader right before they become relevant, like the exact identity of the murdered man. It's only eight pages, so there's little opportunity to piece information together on your own time, and as such it is heavily reliant on narrative cheats to generate cheap surprise. About the best thing here is the big page-dominating panel of Wesley swinging through the city on his wirepoon, unconscious woman tucked under arm. Kinda hard to convincingly raise my dander about what it means for the character and his feature when it's successfully operating on the long-standing principle of "masked mystery men swinging on a wire through skyscrapers looks really cool." S'like a solid fifth of the formula behind why Spider-Man is so enduringly popular.
(Also not a big fan of how Wes dismisses Dian from participating in the case without any adequate reason why. She calls him out over it, even, and nothing in the story justifies his decision to fly solo on this one.)

ADVENTURE COMICS #64 (July)

The Unseen Man - ???, Flessel

Dian's purchase of paints from a local hobby shop includes quite the unusual accidental item: a paint that turns anything and everything invisible on contact. Determined to solve this mystery on her own, Dian investigates the shop with the dealer's cooperation, only for the dread Unseen Man to get the drop on her. Fortunately, Sandman is there to save her because he won't let Dian do anything on her own; unfortunately, Dian doesn't know Wes can see her attacker through his blue cobalt lenses and pulls him away, thinking him mad and letting the Unseen Man go free. As reward for her screw up, she's targeted in her home the next night, only for Wes to barge in again, having anticipated the only possible secret identity for the crook would make him likely to strike back at Dian. It is, unsurprisingly, the hobby shop owner, who Wes turns over to the police before heading out to patent his invisibility paint with the United States Army.
Alright, it's definitely not Gardner Fox writing anymore, because I cannot imagine Fox treating Dian so poorly. I gave her some dignity in summary, but this story is plain dumping all over her as a fussy, incompetent tryhard who fails at investigating on her own on account her womanly ways. Just look at the sheer antagonism between her and Wes; you two are partners, she's saved Sandman's skin like a dozen times, worn his costume and wielded his gas gun to do it once, even! Don't try to BS me into thinking Wes would run this paternalist "let me handle it, Dian, I wear the pants in this relationship" crap on her. You're only alive because she's worn your fucking pants. Otherwise, 'nother instance where the story and art alike don't give me much of note. I reckon Flessel was about done with the series with Fox gone and sorta phoned in his last few assignments. They're nowhere near the standard of his early solo artistic duties on the title. There IS another good wirepoon swinging shot, if one counterbalanced by a crummier instance with yet another weirdly-proportioned mask.

ALL-STAR COMICS #5

The Mysterious Mr. X: The Kidnapper's Union - Fox, Cliff Young

The Justice Society are bored. Bored, bored, bored. Why are they bored? There is no crime. Not a single ruffian or scoundrel or roughneck lawbreaker anywhere in the city! Where did crime go? Crime has taken an enforced vacation, courtesy the plans of big crime boss Mister X (hats off), as prelude to his big plans for taking out the JSA and putting all his criminal enterprises back on easy street. It's quite the collection of rackets out against the superheroes - an arsonist ring for Flash, a jewel snatching gang for Hawkman, leader of the phony fortune teller underworld against Doctor Fate, even hard-pressing gym membership shakedowns for the Atom! Naturally our heroes triumph, though every one also encounters a strange little man idly strolling through their battlegrounds. He's so omnipresent despite his mousiness, he's even there when they convene at the police station to organize Mister X's (hats off) arrest. Except this unassuming slip of a man? He IS Mister X (hats off), and with the Justice Society having taken all the fun out've crime, he's turning himself in to live comfortably on the state's dollar in jail. WHOOPSY-DOODLE!
For his six-page part in the game, Sandman must contend against the kidnapper's union, who naturally enough have abducted Dian to get his attention. Not only have these lowlives taken Dian hostage (though she doesn't particularly mind), they've taken out phony accident insurance claims against themselves should the hero injure any of them en route to his untimely death! Nobody quite expects Wes to avoid the sniper-guarded roads to their remote hilltop hideout, though, and a quick wirepoon swing over the canyon (complete with Mister X - hats off - sighting) puts him right in the criminal den. From there, it's a simple biff wham boom to take down the punks and disarm their supporting fire. Alas, Sandman is once again only in the loop on the true nature of the threat against the JSA because someone notifies him from their own investigation, this time Flash via telegram. Let him do his own detective work, you pricks!
Right. You see these panels? You see Dian being calm and collected in the midst of a kidnapping operation? You see Wes trusting her with a submachine gun to keep watch on the fools who mean them harm? Yeah, THAT'S Fox writing Dian. Whoever's writing the Adventure feature at this time ought've taken notes. Artistically, Young makes a fine replacement for Grothkopf and Flessel in Adventure - he can match the first for goons, the second for action, manages a nice turnaround effect before Wes swings on his wirepoon, and even gives us a by-now all-too-rare heavy shadow shot on Wes and Dian. I'm a big fan of the lead kidnapper who calls the JSA the "Justiss Sassiety," and find this instance of Mister X (hats off) the second best in the book, behind only his appearance in the Hourman story, which I think speaks for itself. Probably the only time I'll express preference for something Hourman related over Sandman.
The loss of all three major contributors to the Sandman feature across early 1941 and the crunch down to eight pages has certainly made the Adventure Comics side of the Sandman line a rockier experience. It's still possible to derive enjoyment from the wonky mysteries and higher-concept criminals, but one must accept atmosphere and and particularity have been near-entirely sacrificed for generalized bombast and louder appeal. Don't misunderstand, I've become a fan of Wesley Dodds, Fist-Swinging Bullet Sponge, and my past praises for him aren't diminished by the realization of what this has done to his integrity as a character circa today's stopping point. The trouble is, while I enjoy this half-mad, impossibly reckless read on the character, it simply no longer bears any resemblance to the early days' lurking and creeping through the seedier parts of town. There's a great series of justifications running through the Sandman concept - he's no powers, so he uses the gas gun, so he needs the gas mask, which hides his identity so perfectly it frees him to wear the ordinary business suit, which highlights his vulnerability. Fling him around like a ragdoll who knows no fear of injury or death, although I'll clap for the bravado of it all, I must object if it means any notion he should be sneaky or cautious degrades.
Especially if it means the gas gun vanishes from the character. It hasn't met its final end just yet, but for this seven month block it's proven a very perfunctory aspect of the strip, hung by his side and occasionally brandished without acting as an integral part of the action or storytelling. The wirepoon has subsumed its function as the sidearm, and while I must stress there are plenty aces shots of Wes swinging that fully justify its prominence, taking precedence over the thing that makes him the Sandman, Crimefighter What Fights Crime By Putting The Criminals To Sleep plain rubs me the wrong way. Be awful nice i we could have both without the new toy putting the old out to pasture, y'know? It's not led to anything I'd full-throatedly object over just yet, but... ach, you'll see next time. Speaking of...
Next time! 1941 comes to a close as Wesley picks up another feature to his name, and also a stupid, ugly new costume!

- I'm thinking Solo Dash races will feature the usual 12 players (1st - 12th place) while Double Dash races features upto 16 players but 8 groups total (1st - 8th place).
- Worldwide and Regional Grand Prix will be 2-12 racers (or 4-16 in doubles mode) in a 4-race Cup from any randomly displayed Cups. Cups are then selected based on player voting.
- Create Room will now feature customized options such as Mode, Teams, Items, CPUs, and Vehicles similar to the Create a Tournament option.
- For online, I'd also like for a better ranking system to prevent casual players from racing against competitive players and vice versa.

- The race start intro and race finishes to retro courses will have a remake version of their original transitions along with a rearranged verison of their original theme from that respective retro course. Example for better understanding. * Mario Kart GP courses will have the current game's race start and finish transitions.
- I somehow also want to incorporate a way that once the Retro Grand Prix is unlocked, the title screen will have remake versions of the original title screens from previous Mario Kart games similar to Mario Party Superstars. Example

- Sometimes the CPU seems to make decisions that only seem to target the player regardless of placement. I want a smarter CPU for harder difficulties that won't just use an item just to use. If a CPU is holding a shell, they should use it logically or defend themselves with it logically.
- I personally am fine with every other mechanic used in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe such as driving techniques used, amiibo settings, Stats, etc. Keep the same driving techniques even during Double Dash mode. I personally was not a fan of Mario Kart Double Dash's drift mechanic and would not want that function brought back.

- there's plenty of room for more characters but I figured 100 was the perfect amount of characters, especially with the double dash feature with everyone potentially having a partner with no odd person out.

~ Vehicles
Available parts. The parts available are listed here in the order shown in the vehicle customization screen, with the following notation: ¹ = Changes color, depending on the character. ² = Changes color for the Koopalings. ³ = Changes color for Daisy, Baby Daisy, Rosalina, and Baby Rosalina. (DLC) = Part is only available as downloadable content.

Personally, I would want a system that prevents everyone from choosing the best racer with the best vehicle parts. For example If Luigi is the best racer and his best vehicle is the standard kart with mushroom tires, and gold glider, obviously everyone will choose Toad and those exact parts to win races. I want everyone to choose their favorite racer and parts that make them comfortable to race in, and not just look at a list of the best racers and parts and just copy and paste that. I don't know how to fix this honestly but I'm sure someone could help with ideas to this to make everyone equal in a way on the track with their own individuality similar to what Mario Kart 7 did with their characters.

Banana Peel - When a kart hits a Banana Peel, it spins out. You can carry one behind your kart to protect yourself from a single attack. Can be thrown backward and forward.
Green Shell - Travels in a straight line and knocks over a kart it hits.
Red Shell - Red Shell Homes in on the closest kart in front of the player and knocks it over.
Feather - Causes the player to spin and leap in the air, providing a small speed boost upon landing, akin to a regular trick (characters will also perform a trick animation during the jump).
Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with a small speed boost.
Super Star - Provides the player invincibility from all terrain and items, and also giving a speed boost.
Boo - Unleashes Boo, who turns the player invisible for a brief time, making them impervious to enemy attacks, and steals an opponent's item. Cannot steal Special Items.
Coinˣ - Grants the player two extra coins and a micro boost.
Lightningˣ - Causes all opponents to drop their items, shrink, and drive slowly for a short time.
Fake Item - Looks just like an item box, but when you run into it, it knocks you over.
Bob-omb - Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking over any kart in its blast radius.
Blooper - Sprays ink on all racers ahead and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed.
Bullet Billˣ - Transforms the player into a Bullet Bill, rocketing through the track with auto-pilot, and providing invincibility from all terrain and items.
Spiny Shellˣ - Targets the racer in first place, knocking over all other karts in its path.
Super Horn - Emits a radial shockwave hitting racers, as well as destroying all obstacles, including the Spiny Shell.

Fireball (Red) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Mario, Fire Mario
Fireball (Green) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Luigi, Fire Luigi
Fire Flower - Allows the player to throw fireballs for a short time that cause other karts to spin out on impact. Drivers: Metal Mario, Fire Peach, Fire Bro
Ice Flower - Three balls of ice will revolve around your kart. Throw them all at once and they'll freeze any kart they hit, causing them to slide. Drivers: Ice Bro, Ice Mario, Penguin Luigi
Heart - This protective Heart revolves around your kart for a set amount of time, shielding you from attacks. Any item that hits the player becomes theirs to use. A cute and handy item. Drivers: Peach, Daisy, Villager, Wendy, Mametchi
Yoshi's Egg - This egg rolls down the road and home in on opponents. When they hit and break, they'll drop three more items. Drivers: Yoshi
Birdo's Egg - Homes in on the kart in front of you and crashes once it hits. Three more items will fly out when it breaks. Drivers: Birdo
Chain Chomp - This fearsome beast chases karts with reckless abandon, pulling the player behind it at breakneck speeds. Drivers: Baby Mario, Baby Luigi
Triple Mushrooms - Orbits the player's kart, providing them with three separate speed boosts. Drivers: Toad, Toadette
Golden Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with continuous speed boosts for a short time. Drivers: Captain Toad

Giant Banana - Not only does this big banana spin out karts that hit it, but after being struck it breaks into three regular-sized Bananas. Drivers: Donkey Kong
Banana Barrels - Arm your kart with two fully-loaded barrels of Bananas! Continually shoots out Bananas in front of or behind your kart for a set time. Drivers: Diddy Kong, Funky Kong
Thunder Cloud - A thundercloud hovers over the recipient and strikes it with lightning after 10 seconds. The user shrinks to a very small size for 10 seconds, driving more slowly. Before this happens, the user has higher speed and acceleration while not losing speed when driving off-road, and may pass the cloud to an opponent by bumping into them. Drivers: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde * If there was absolutely no choice but to have the next Meta character, it'd be the Ghosts. Having one of the worst possible specials in the game should balance them out.
POW Block - The POW Block appears above the karts as a 2D image, warning players of its arrival, and causes any racer on the ground ahead of the user to spin out and drop their items. * Since wheelies are no longer a thing, it always spins out other racers unless they're in anti-gravity mode or during an in air trick Drivers: Mii, Don-chan
Super Leaf- Gives the player's kart a tail that can be used to deflect items, knock over opponents and collect coins. The tail will disappear after a moment or if the player is hurt. Drivers: Tanooki Mario

Boomerang Flower - Can be thrown up to three times, hitting racers forward/backward and when it returns to its user after the first and second use. Driver: Boomerang Bro, Larry

Double Bob-ombs - Two Bob-ombs will revolve around your kart. Throw them both at once. Drivers: Wario, Waluigi, Roy
Bob-omb Cannon - Continually shoots out Bob-ombs in front of your kart for a set time. Drivers: Shy Guy
Giga Bob-omb - After being thrown, it will explode after hitting a kart or bouncing 3 times. It has a larger blast radius than a standard Bob-omb. Drivers: King Bob-omb
Bubble - Briefly envelops your kart and protects you from damage for a set time. While in the bubble, you will get a speed boost and float in the air. Drivers: Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Lemmy
Dash Ring - Tosses out three rings in front of you along the track. Pass through them for a speed boost! Drivers: Rosalina, Luma, Ludwig, Honey Queen
Hammer - Throws multiple Hammers in an arc aimed at karts in front of yours. Drivers: Hammer Bro
Super Bell - A bell rings above the driver, knocking away nearby karts and items. The bell rings three consecutive times. Drivers: Cat Peach, Cat Toad
Capsule - Three colorful capsules surround your kart. They'll bounce at opponents when thrown. Drivers: Dr. Mario
Splat Bomb ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking and spraying ink on any kart in its blast radius and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed. Drivers: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy

People settle. I obviously can't say that about everyone, some people don't, and I like to believe that most people are doing the best that they can. But I think most people live life half-heartedly. Just going through the motions. Reading through the "script", saying their lines, until the curtain draws. It's no wonder that society is so miserable (ie: depression, anxiety, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, mass murder, etc.)
The thing is, at the end of the day, to live this way is a choice. It's true that the information is scarce, nobody is taught to respect life from a young age. School doesn't teach it. Parents don't teach it because they don't know it. Society doesn't teach it. The mental health field doesn't teach it. Religion most certainly doesn't teach it. It's almost entirely absent from all domains: secular and religious, public and private. That means a young human being must go in search of it.
I suppose, in part, that's healthy. If there were no search involved, it wouldn't be authentic. Every single one of us must make peace with life on our own, there's no getting around it, unless you decide not to make peace with it at all (and die by suicide, whether the overt one or the more common slow 'rot til you die' approach). On the other hand, though, it's reflective of the fact that our society is so fearful. This is why I cannot take the whole mental health / therapy / psychology field seriously: none of them talk about the simple fact that we are all facing an existential crisis - a crisis about what it means to be alive. The problem is not mental, it's spiritual, and it's about our views on life and how we relate to the world. The society would rather live in ignorance and pretend these questions don't exist rather than confront them. Because to confront them can be very terrifying. The truth about life is not comfortable.
In short, the information is scarce. But even so, it is still a choice to to live this way at the end of the day. There's the old proverb (I have no idea from where) that says "when the student is ready, the master appears". That's because, at the end of the day the biggest block isn't the scarcity of the information, it's our own resistance to the truth. Once you are ready to open your eyes, surely you'll start finding things that resonate. And that's the thing: the external information only serves as confirmation for what you already knew to be true inside of you. I think we all know these deeper truths on some level, that's why people will go to war and kill and die for their beliefs - it's the ultimate form of "compensating" for something, something which they know to be false.
It's odd to me, because there seems to be a sort of war on truth. The new New Age belief seems to be that there is no objective truth at all, which makes no sense, because in that case they wouldn't even be able to make case for that point. We all know deep down that some things are more true than others. I'm a fan of humility, and I'm fine with admitting that "all I know is I know nothing". But that doesn't mean I'm going to eat my cereal with poison instead of milk tomorrow morning.
It's no wonder, then, that "rationalists" or whatever you want to call them hate the whole New Age think. I don't consider myself New Age. I don't consider myself anything, really, but I understand that there's some overlap with what I talk about and spirituality. I'm OK with that. What "rationalists" miss, however, is the mystery of the whole thing. It cannot be entirely understood (even if I know enough to know I would rather eat my cereal with milk - I still cannot explain to you why I like my favorite cereal).
People settle.
The truth is, as far as I have been able to see, that your life is up to you. Certainly some people have it worse than others, and I'm not disputing that. It's not my business to go to some starving kid in a third world country and say "Hey bud your life is up to you". That's ridiculous. On the other hand, however, any of us who are fortunate enough to be on a website like this most likely have the tools to be able to do something cool with their life. And I always cite the example of Viktor Frankl, a Jewish psychologist who was imprisoned in a Nazi labor camp. He said that he was free to choose his attitude despite that horrific situation, and if he can do it in those circumstances, I'm not sure that any of us have an excuse, either. (Not to say he was jumping for joy in a concentration camp, but he did choose to hold out hope, and he survived. I was criticized for talking about this once on Facebook - I soon learned this was not the best platform for my writing.)
If you've read any of my stuff, you know I like to mix more broader-based truths, as I see them, with more personal details. I think it helps illustrate my points, and I also like talking about it. It's part of my whole "enjoyment of life" thing.
I recently wrote a post about how "the material is good", speaking about my music but also my message. Today's post will be similar. Yesterday I got together with my band to talk about our new repertoire going forward. I write the vast majority of music though I do appreciate the contributions they make and also don't consider them replaceable. Anyway, we met at my house and I showed them 10-12 songs that I like for our band going forward: some quite old (10-15 years), some intermediate (3-5 years), and some recent (from 1 week to 1 year ago). They liked 9 of them and the other 3 were a maybe.
Like I said, I've had some of these songs for 10-15 years. Some of them I've had the privilege of playing live, but only a couple of times, but the vast majority no. I remember when I was 22 years old it was my dream to make a living with this music... I really feel like I had a message there. One year later, in AA, I would share in a meeting and flagellate myself by saying that "me and my best bud had a message, what it was, I don't know" - and everybody laughed (this was one thing that drove me away from AA, despite me remaining sober for 9.5 years as of writing: the self-condemnation). But that was wrong. I, we (my best friend and I) did have a message. I just didn't know exactly what it was.
Now I know, as much as I can put it into words, I suppose. Life sucked for me. Yeah, I was materially well-off, just like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. But like them, particularly like Dylan, I found no joy in life. No meaning. I did not feel accepted. Girls did not seem to like me. I can relate deeply to Dylan in that sense. My life sucked - money was not enough for me. But rock and roll, man, that made me feel alive. I could share my emotions, I could play and sing and dance, I could get my aggression out, and hey... girls took notice of me. I had never seen girls pay attention to me like after they did when I got up on stage. It was wild.
I would never say I did it or do it only for girls. I had one guy tell me that one time, and hey, at least he was honest. But that wasn't my case. Still, it was a nice side benefit. I think they were attracted to the same thing I was: that feeling of being alive.
Me and my best bud used to say "rock is life", half-jokingly, but actually in a serious sense, too. I think I coined this term, but I can't be sure, and in fairness we discovered what rock and roll meant together. He was the Eric to my Dylan. Luckily we didn't blow anybody's brains out. Anyway, if I recall correctly, it was because I wanted that feeling of rock, being up on stage, to apply to my entire life. Not just being on stage. All of my life was my stage. Thus, "rock is life". And I very distinctly remember part of it being unapologetic.
Just a quick note, for those who don't know me, that I don't glorify Harris and Klebold. The only reason I'm talking about them at all is because I've recently been doing a dive into the Columbine shooting because I'm fascinated by what could drive two kids to do something that horrific. The most interesting part, to me, is that Dylan and Eric weren't all that different from me and my friends. In fact, I think they actually had some valid grievances about life and about society (though not valid enough to justify what they did). I believe what I am doing is rooted in something similar to what they felt, but my conclusion about the course of action is the exact opposite: not the destruction of life, but rather, the celebration. In all of its facets - including the ugly.
In AA they called it "living life on life's terms". That's what I learned to do. At 22 years old, in the midst of my rock and roll dream, I had to get sober. I hit a guy on a bike in a drunk driving "accident" that was obviously my fault. Thank God he was okay, and I didn't run or anything, I made sure he was OK and I got arrested after confessing. Soon after I got sober, and I've been sober ever since. I'm very grateful to that - but I had to give up on my rock and roll dream.
Or that's what I thought, at least. I had no idea that 10 years later I'd be given the opportunity to play these songs again, for audiences that enjoy and appreciate my music. And why? Why me? Firstly, it's a gift. A gift from "God", if you will, or from life (I don't actually believe in a deity). I'm good at making music. It comes naturally to me. Where I come into is that I never gave up on myself or my music. Well, I sort of did at the beginning of sobriety, but even that was a great example of not giving up on myself. Deep down I think I knew that more important than the songs was the message behind them - I mean, in the way I choose to live my life. So while I was perhaps wrong to think that my music was not important, I never gave up on myself, and eventually that lead me to rediscovering my music a few years later. And here we are now.
I've fought for it. Getting into a band was sort of by chance, but configuring things in such a way that made sense has been a fight. We had a drummer who didn't like to play original music, only covers. We argued, and eventually he made the decision to leave without getting sacked. I told him I understood and we parted with a hug, no hard feelings. We had a bass player, a great guy and still my friend, who is a true musician and gets paid to play in cover bands and stuff. He always viewed our project as secondary. We had to cut him, too. And then there was a keyboardist who didn't fit our groove. We cut him, too.
In a way, it was all my brainchild. The rhythm guitarist is perhaps my best friend here overseas (by the way, 1 year into sobriety I moved overseas to help find myself). I told him to pick up a bass. The new drummer was on the same page as he and I in terms of the music we wanted to make. I proposed we do a power trio. And that's what we did. And people here are loving it.
If you look at the accomplishments themselves, they're not actually that impressive. Just a few local shows and one small show outside of town. But there's something about the reception we're getting. It's not only positive, like, "hey, I liked your band". People genuinely seem to be enjoying our music and giving praise that goes beyond what is expected in order to be nice / friendly. It's an amazing feeling, and confirmation of what I think I knew to be true 10 years ago: my music is good, and life is worth it. I think the fact that I've continued fighting for 10 years just makes the message even stronger - I never gave up, even through the bad times.
All of this is to say that I never imagined I would be here today. Maybe this sounds like an Oscar award speech or something, which is ridiculous given the "minimal" achievements my band and I have had. But to me they're not minimal. Again, it's not necessarily about the material success, but rather the spiritual success of knowing that I took a stand somewhere and contributed something valuable to the world. And had a lot of fun along the way, too. That's worth more than gold (and who doesn't love gold?)
I couldn't write a whole post about my life without mentioning the girl I like right now. Man, I'm very attracted to her, and I "love" her, whatever that means. Maybe it's ridiculous since I hardly know her, but I think about her a lot, and I'd like to get to know her more. If you're reading this, no, it's not the girl I met on Reddit, though I am fond of that girl, too, and wouldn't mind hearing from her again. But yeah, the girl in real life is great.
It's weird. As much as I'd like to get her in bed or whatever (it'd be fun), it's almost like I just want to be discovered or something. I feel there's a lot going on with me, and I'm eager to share it with the world. I think it's valuable. Of course, she is dealing with her own issues, so it's best to go slow. I'm OK with being patient, she's worth it. (I wouldn't mind getting to know her, either.)
I think what I never understood with love was that it's just a plus, not the main event. People say this all the time, but it's difficult to digest when you're lonely. It's true though. You have to make your own life the main event. IMO that doesn't mean "create a great social life, go to clubs, go to the gym" and all these other material milestones that people create. Nah. For me, it's a more spiritual question. What do you want your life to be about? Figure that out then embark on the journey. Love is a wonderful stop on that journey. No movie or story would be complete without it, right? Well, life wouldn't be, either.
Anyway, all of this is to say that life is worth it. It's a lot of bullshit sometimes. The day-to-day can be grueling, even if you're lucky like me and have a job that you somewhat enjoy. And then you've got to clean the house, pay taxes, deal with people's dysfunction (including your own)... it's hard! But it's like I said earlier, life is what you make of it. That's my whole message. It's really extremely simple. Simple, but not easy, I guess. But I guess I just decided that I was going to give it a try (more than once, actually), and I'm really, really glad I did.

2023.05.28 11:03 rundown03 Weird interaction with Antwerp jewelers in jewelry district

I'm a hobby silversmith and I wanted to buy some gold to melt to make a engagement ring for my other half. I tried to find gold granules firstly from websites for jewelers but as a private person the pricing with added tax didn't even made sense. I ended up thinking that I would just walk to the jewelry district this saturday in Antwerp and buy some 18k rings to melt. This is where I ended up having my weird interactions.
Whenever I walked into any shop they would really try to sell it to me. But whenever I mentioned that I would melt it every salesperson looked like the had slight panic in their emotions and tell me off to go elsewhere. They didn't want to sell me anything.
I'm thinking some of them are just selling gold plated instead of real gold jewelry. And are afraid to be found out.

Fleur: If there's one thing about me and Yuka being in a competition together, it's that I'll make it farther. Bring out the tiny violins, bye bitch!
🏁Fleur CF: Did Yuka do anything to me? Hmm, that's a dumb question. But I do know that she was in the competition, and now she's not!
Morgs: Blondie and Zodya, congratulations. I'll admit, I was hoping this would be our week. But you did a nice job.

Sharris: Let's hope that there aren't any more pity wins this season. That would be great.
Zodya: There's a difference between a pity win and being the best team to follow the rules.

🏁Sue CF: I'm afraid that I'm fading into the background, and it's about time that I step forward. On Season Four, I never got to a win, even though I was close. I know that these girls think my attitude is more fun and relaxed, but I won't let them underestimate me.

Micro: Greetings Earth queens! When I invited each of you back, I did so because you are the best and brightest in the galaxy. And to prove that, it's time to take things out of this world. Behind me, there's a table full of celestial inspired materials. Each of you will design a high fashion look that takes us to infinity and beyond. Now, some of you may not love the idea of producing your own look. Which is why you have options! If you'd like, you are able to use a pre-existing look. The only catch is that you need to modify it enough so that it reads as your own unique creation. Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

🏁Whorechata CF: This is what I've been waiting for! From the start of this competition, these queens have questioned whether or not I belong here. And I knew they were wrong. Because...duh, look at the material. But this is the challenge where I know I can outdo everyone else. Yeah, I feel pretty good about my chances.

Fleur: I've taken my sewing classes after Season Four, and I didn't really have that much to improve on.

Fleur: We did. We got these horrible boxes of trash and had to make it into something.

Steph: I think I have. Being back in these four walls, and feeling like I'm just starting to get the momentum going, it's hauntingly familiar to how I felt on Season Three.

Micro: Welcome back to the runway of Micro's Drag Race: All Stars! This week, the queens were asked to design a high fashion look utilizing or inspired by celestial materials. And joining me on the judging panel is a very special guest. Usually, we keep it in the family and have past queens return to judge. But this season, I've invited some legendary queens that I admire to help me out. And tonight, we have the amazing Hex!

Hex: Honored to be here.
Micro: You've been a legendary designer in the drag world for years. What do you think makes a good design?
Hex: Finding a concept, and immersing yourself in that world. If you want to be an alien, become that alien and think about how they'd wear the look. You have to commit!
Micro: That is fabulous advice. You ready to get started?
Hex: I'm ready to feel inspired!
Micro: Without further ado, let's see if these looks are truly out of this world!

Anthyy: Coming down this runway I feel amazing! It’s a design challenge and you just know that miss Anthyy will deliver in those! Tonight the category was space at first I got a bit scared cause the home eis super broad if you look at it but then my. Mind went straight to my sister she is OBSSESED with space, so I called her and asked her what is her favorite planet! She said Uranus… and the rest is history! So tonight for my look I am channeling you the Uranus fantasy, my dress is a net made out of 27 of the Uranus’s moons and being me you can see a stunning set of it’s rings, not many people know that Uranus is one of the 3 planets with rings! Yup not only Saturn so tonight I wanted to make sure we don’t forget about those rings! Uranus is also one of the coldest planets that exsist so i made sure my alien puss is frozen the haus down boots! The parts holding together the moons on her dress are all coveed in galaxy dust and you can see my stunning 3 pairs of hands all going in diffrent directions! As for the look itself, it is a pretty gown (which you know i only do for special occasions!) with an amazing backpiece and stunning hair artistry! I would say this is soemthing that isnt often seen and its one of it's kind so im suoer happy to bring it to you on the design challenge! Lets hope this alien lands me my 3rd win! Finding out that this week's guest judge is my amazing friend Hex, she also is included in this look honey did you notice how my alien has 3 nostrills??? YUPPPPP thats what i call referencing

Blondie: You better beware, you're in for a scare! Run in fear when Captain Blondatrix arrives on your planet and goes for a pure femme pink fem-pire! For this look, I did use a pre-existing outfit but dyed the colours to a nice ballet slipper pink & a rose gold pink to add to colour theory. I did paint the mask and got a dazzling matching wig... I mean, styled my hair into a gorgeous blonde to meet my branding. Next, I got rid of some pesky details that weren't needed and created more of a space priestess vibe, and kept the alien incubator, as I'm here to spread my seed any way I can. Finally, I created a new banner and an amazing bi-sexual planet to create awareness. So beam me up, cuz I'm here to take y'all down~

Fleur: I love the Earth. The Earth just gives cunt 24/7 for the past billion years. She always finds some way to absolute slayyyyyy. For example when she decided that she wanted a desert, we were all like "yas girl sand is so sexy". Her brain is just so innovative and she is truly a lovely person. I love the Earth. It is just so calm, and peaceful and sweet. Everyday is amazing on Earth because the Earth is just amazing. It has not one bad quality. That is why I love it. This look resemblances the cuntiness Mother Earth is but also how serene it can be. She's so quirky. But sometimes... just sometimes... the Galaxy is jealous of Earth's cuntiness. Like for example, when the Galaxy decided to shoot a meteor onto it and kill all those leather wearing, katy perry roaring carnivores. Like that was bullying! But sometimes... just sometimes... the Galaxy is in a bad mood and it wants to recreate the devastation of the first meteor. Fuck the galaxy honestly. FUCK YOU. And when the Earth goes BOOM, so does the runway Fleur is modelling and strutting on. This gives her enough times to take of her jumpsuit and reveal her bare naked skin which is just coincidentally painted in a molten galaxy pattern. Science lesson: This is because the Earth has plates. The crust, the mantle and the core. The core is filled with molten lava and I think lava is so that bitch. Like it can burn a hoe like that! So obviously when the earth explodes, lava will ooze into the milkyway making the milkyway turn orange. Kind of like food colouring. And obviously, when the world does explode into the galaxy, you would probably be blinded by the light so you will always need some funky Lady Gaga looking sun glasses. And that's on period.

Kami: Kami steps out onto the stage, and she is ready for space! She is serving you astronaut realness with her helmet in hand, and her bedazzled star space bodysuit when suddenly she trips -
her belt unravels and suddenly you can see a fake face laying on the ground
Oh my god! She's really an alien?? She's kind of serving though... Her alien wings held back by the belt that was previously cinching her waist (?) in, has revealed who she truly is. The wig seems to have melted down, and a bunch of the accessories are now falling off as well. The stars on the alien skin slowly falling off as the bodysuit from before is now revealed to have been her skin all along. how is she hiding humongous wings underneath a tiny belt ? these are questions that are unnecessary!

Morgs: BLAM! for my intergalactic runway it’s getting hot in here, why? because i’m a star, litterally. i wanted to be the sun, the most important thing for life. i've got a warm dress on, glasses to protect me from the UV rays, and a backpiece that are supposed to be sunbeams. i’m slaying this runway and even though i hate designing my own stuff, i managed to make myself a whole outfit and sunbeams that shoot out!

Sharris: For my Space Age Couture runway, my inspiration comes directly from the galaxy and the beautiful sky we see at nighttime. I didn’t want to go with an astronaut, or an alien, I wanted to go with the sheer beauty that the natural world holds. It’s couture, and just so so extravagant. This runway represents an entire celestial body. If a lady from the Capitol moved to space- this is what she’d be wearing. Upon walking onto the runway, the lights dim, and i’m SHINING. Practically radiating with beauty. I have never been in more awe than I have with what I’ve produced tonight

Whorechata steps forward and walks towards the judging panel. She hunches over and grabs the base of the panel, as Micro and Hex look at her in confusion. Whorechata lifts with all of her might, and flips the panel. Her eyes turn bright red and she storms around the studio, throwing punches and kicks at everyone in sight

Micro: The rest of you represent the tops and bottoms of the week. It's time for your critiques.
Micro: First up, Anthyy!
Hex: Hello Anthyy! This look is fun, i know that this isn't really your style but i think that you did the theme's justice tonight. You decided to be inspired by one of the planets which is a really safe choice to do on a theme like that, but you went with one of the most interesting ones so its ok, We can see that the inspo was there from the color palette and the rings. The look is just a basic gown let's be real but you still make it interesting with the transparent parts and overall its giving me very Brooke Candy/slutish vibe which i am personally a fan of. What i am not a fan of is the makeup here, i like that you decided to pay homage to your drag sister - me, but idk i am not really feeling the eyes, they kinda look weird but i guess it fits the whole alien aesthetic so maybe i'm just quirky and nitpicking. The headpiece is really fun and playful. Overall it's a really strong look from you tonight, good job!
Micro: Anthyy! I think this week was a great chance for you to show off a new style with your looks. Getting more into the alienesque and untraditional glamour. And you really nailed that in my opinion! I love when a look is simple, but has dynamic silhouettes and added bits. This strappy dress on its own would maybe be too simple, but the back piece and extra arms, it elevates it to an incredible level. I think the color palette of blue and gray was unexpected but worked well. And usually I’m begging for rhinestones, but I wouldn’t add any rhinestones to this look, I don’t know how you managed that! Great work.
Micro: Next, Blondie!
Hex: Blondie! Hi, i love how both you and Anthyy decided to go with 3 eyed aliens! I see what you tried to do with the theme, but i lowkey don't see space in it, your color palette is giving me just a normal person, maybe if you changed the hair and face to be pinkish too maybe it would help to sell the theme more? I also don't think that you edited your look enough to be that different from the original one which is a shame because i see some potential. Overall you were in the middle tonight, not the worst but not the best one either.
Micro: Hi Blondie!! I think this base look was a great choice for this challenge, since it does lend itself to that outer space vibe. And you definitely put the work in to make this your own. I do think though that the new color palette makes the level of detail come down a bit. There’s a lot about this that I like, but I have to nitpick!
Micro: Next up, Fleur Tation!
Hex: Fleur! Hello girl, let me start with the positives first, well, so i liked that you decided to be inspired by earth which is an original choice for a theme like that not gonna lie, everyone would do something quirky but you decided to not look too far for your inspiration. You have a + for that from me. Now for your look, hmm i think that you could do way more with it, its just a simple bodysuit with a print on it, the reveal version is better, but still could've been more elevated. I just wish that you did something more with the hair and makeup in both of these, because even though your inspiration was really good for me, it just looks like you did not know what to do with it. Overall its not a good look from you tonight, I appreciate that you drew it and your description was fun to read.
Micro: Let me start off by saying your runway commentary and how you sold this look was my absolute favorite. I love the effort you put into that. Now onto the looks. I think they told a great story. But the actual design elements, I’m not getting much from it if I’m being totally honest. If there was some sleeve action, some interesting cut to the pants, something to bring more to it.
Micro: The always fabulous, Morgs!
Hex: Hello Morgs! This is very safe for me, i like the inspiration because without the sun there wouldn't be us so good for you to appreciate that. There's nothing much to say here really, maybe other than i don't really see cosmos here but it's just not the worst look tonight so, at least you tried and drew it.
Micro: Hi Morgs! I love the energy and vibe that this look conveys. It’s modern and has a cool look to it. I will say, I think the back piece really saves you here. It adds a unique element, and I think the look needed it. The rest of the look is a bit too simple to me. Maybe some stoning, a different neckline on the dress, some little adjustments could’ve amped this up. But as is, this doesn’t totally work for me, I’m sorry!
Micro: Next, Sharris!
Hex: Hello Sharris! Your look is good but i don't think you did enough for me to call it as 'your' look. Micro gave you all an option to edit one of many existing looks and while you picked a really good one, you barely did anything to edit it as yours, it just looks like you put a filter over it and called it a day, not even bothering to change the colors really. While Blondie did the same thing, she at least i don't know tried to make things a bit interesting by changing the whole color palette. That's all.
Micro: Hi Sharris! With the option to take a pre-existing look and edit it, I think the potential to make something your own and really special was there. And while I think you look amazing right now, it is so similar to the original look. Small things like changing the hair, adding new jewelry, maybe a metal corset piece, those could’ve really worked to make this more of an original piece. Not a bad look by any means, but I have to look at how different it is from the original, and I’m not seeing much.
Micro: Shining bright, it's Sue Pernova!
Hex: Sue! This look is very adorable, i really like the color palette, it looks like some video game character thats a singer and has some cosmic related superpowers. Your inspiration here clearly shows because i can see each thing you mentioned in your description. I love how we can't really see her face because it also adds to the mystic element that the cosmos has because we still don't really know much stuff about it. Overall a really good job tonight, congrats!
Micro: Sue, this look is adorable!! I love the outer space popstar vibe you went for, and the vibrancy of these colors work really well with that. The different textures and materials as well add some visual interest and keep it from being too simple. I maybe would’ve liked to see some lengthening to the legs and a tighter cinch on the corset, but this is a stand out look for me, you really impressed me here!
Micro: Next up, Wren Wyvern!
Hex: Wren, uhh hello? This was a letdown for me, you kinda did a similar look to Steph but i guess her's more elevated and just more interesting to look at. I don't think your look really sells the theme since it's barely cosmos related other than the cosmic print. I like what you tried to do with the arms but it reads more as angelic to me rather than some alien creature. I'm sorry but i don't like this.
Micro: Hi Wren! I’m gonna have to disagree with Hex on this one. I really enjoyed this look. It’s very cosmic deity, and you stand out from the group tonight. I think a really big collar piece that had some height and sharp edges to it would’ve taken this look to an even stronger level, but I see where you were going with it! Some minor little edits I’d make, but solid look from you!
Micro: Last but not least, Zodya Killer.
Hex: Hello Zodya! This is one of my favorite looks tonight, you had a clear vision and presented it really well. I really like the color palette and how vibrant it is, i love the accessories and the overall shape of it. The backpiece with your blonde hair in front of it kinda reminds me of the sun which is also a really fun detail. The way that you drew this also is a big plus for me + the props? I am a prop queen so i like the use of them in this look. Overall a really good moment for you tonight.
Micro: Zodya, you look like a goddess tonight. You found a way to take this sort of galaxy pattern and print and make it look regal and expensive. I love the way this look sparkles, and the golden accents against that deep blue and purple, it adds to that royalty look. If I had to nitpick, I wish there was a big necklace or set of earrings, but I can appreciate the simplicity in not going heavy with accessories. Great work!

Sue: I'm torn with my emotions right now. Getting praised on this look felt amazing. But then it almost gave me a false sense of hope. I thought maybe I could win.

Dear [Agent],
A Story from the Steps in the Gutter is a standalone adult dystopian novel of 100,000 words. It will appeal to readers of The Revivalists by Christopher Hood and The World Gives Way by Marissa Levien. Exploring themes of trauma and loss of innocence, it also has potential for upmarket fiction appeal.
Alixen is a thief.
She is also a filthy human, a Koshoan. As an unwanted child, she grew up at the North York Moors Institution. There she was one of four best friends who clung to each other.
Alixen is an adult now, and she pushes away the memories of chasing each other across the flowing hills of their British island. Surviving and creating trouble for the police whenever she gets the chance is far more important.
When she attacks a soldier to rob him, she never expects it to be Reginald, her childhood friend. She flees from the encounter, but their paths cross again when she is caught, and Reginald is put in charge of her public service sentence. She is disgusted that he fights in a war for a country that regards their class as the filthiest humans in society. But when they reminisce over their upbringing, they uncover the bond that has always pulled them together.
After her sentence is served, she continues her life as a thief in the rundown streets of York, where the common tradisans use carriages, and motorized vehicles are reserved for government use. Just as the war becomes more brutal, Reginald grapples with his choice to be a soldier. She helps to ground him when he is lost in his fear, and her own hardened heart softens in his presence.
But just as the bond between them rekindles, Reginald is arrested for murder. He is innocent, but the evidence is against him. And Koshoans do not get fair trials.
Reginald’s freedom is at stake. With war looming over the country, Alixen steals a jewel in order to bribe a corrupt government official for the release of her friend. But doing so starts a chain of events that may lead her down a path of ruin.

As Reginald passed the crooked houses, he grabbed an apple from his pocket and let his teeth crunch through its surface. Juice dripped off the skin.
A glimmer caught his eye from below his boots. When he pulled it out of the glare, the object revealed itself to be a simple gold ring with an insignia molded onto one side. The surface was only slightly scuffed.
Before he could rise, the back of his head shrieked with a pain that thrust him forward. He lost grip of the ring and the apple, and his face met dust. He scrambled to join his palms against the pavement, to prop himself up. But his head was spinning around the gray sky and shambled buildings.
Something prodded through his pockets. He had fallen for a ruse, hadn’t he? His gut dropped as he reached for the handgun holstered to his belt. The thief got there first, and he felt the firearm loosen from his side.
A grunt escaped him as he flailed onto his back to face the thief. His head throbbed. The blurry figure above him was slowly sharpening. The attacker was smaller than he imagined. It was a woman. The last thing she reached for was the gold ring, securing it around her thumb.
He blinked, seeing for the first time in clarity the criminal hovering above him. The thief’s eyes met his. Shock struck his veins with equal force as the blow to his head.
He choked her name as confusion swarmed him. “Alixen?”
Her eyes widened. She bolted.
He clambered up, cradling his head. She had already scampered halfway down the street.
“Alixen, I know it’s you!” His shout seemed weak in the empty street. “Alixen, wait!”
She turned the corner into an alleyway. His feet followed.

Hi Everyone, I'm in a high paying career where I make anywhere between $1-3 million per annum. I am trying to create a medium-level risk plan where I can fatFIRE with my wife in seven years with ~$1mn in investment income per year (not necessarily cash flow, but expected cash flow + appreciation). My wife currently makes $150,000/yr but will probably quit once we have kids in 1.5-2 years. I was an idiot and listened to too much biggerpockets when I started making good money three years ago and invested almost all of it into real estate. I have sold a few properties in the past 5-6 months and am now looking to diversify and build a more sustainable investment portfolio.

Here is where I currently stand with my investments.

Property 1: STR. Market Value: $1,150,000. Debt: $725,000 (4.375%). Annual Cash Flow (net of PITI and expenses): $70,000

Car: $3,200 left on lease. Planning to buy in cash when my lease is up in seven months for ~$20,000. Let's just assume we have insurance and gas of $250/month
Rent: $3,700 / month - (We rent our apartment but are looking into house hacking in a multifamily downtown - we live in a HCOL area, so this would probably require a $1,000,000 down payment on $3,500,000 market value, but we could "live for free" or even cash flow in this scenario). The market rent for our apartment is closer to $5,000/month but we do all the maintenance for the owner if anything breaks or needs repair, so we have a good deal.
Food: $1,000 / month (eat out once/week, grubhub once/week, cook rest of meals)
Purchases (clothes/gifts): $300 / month
Entertainment (travel/shows/games): $750 / month
All Else (gyms, wifi, cell, subscriptions): $800 / month

Total: $6,800 / month or $81,600 / year

Other Items to Consider:
We plan to have two-three kids over the next five years. We will likely move after we have our first kid. Neither of us will have any inheritance. We donate about $25,000 / year, but once we fatFIRE we plan to donate ~$100,000 / year. Real estate is volatile so cash flow may be less. My base salary is $350,000, increasing to $400,000 in March. My bonus in March will be $800,000 (pre-tax). Next year will be around the same. The years after that I could expect anywhere from a $500,000 - $3,000,000 bonus.

Knowing all this, how do I build my investment portfolio to fatFIRE with $1,000,000 in annual expected return taking medium risk in 7 years?

What does Romans 5:8 mean?

This is one of the most loved verses in the Bible, and the high point of a lengthier discussion. In previous verses, Paul clearly showed that salvation is on the basis of faith, not works (Romans 3:21–26). That justification—a declaration of righteousness—brings us peace with God, instead of wrath. This is available only to those who have expressed saving faith, as exemplified by men like Abraham (Romans 4:1–12). Given that hope, suffering in the life of a Christian believer can be meaningful. We are safe to hope in God because He loves us. Paul's point here is that we don't have to take God's word alone that He loves us. We can look at the evidence: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
What does it mean that Christ died for us? It means that He died in our place. Because of our sin, we deserved to suffer God's angry judgment. We deserved death. Christ took that judgment for our sin on Himself on the cross. He suffered and died in our place. Paul insists that we should take that act as evidence of God's great love for us, especially since God went first. Jesus died in our place, before we knew we would want Him to do that. He died for us before we'd ever done anything to deserve that love. This is a point Paul made in the prior verse: it takes love to die willingly for someone else, even if they're a "good" person. But we, those who have been saved, were still sinners, and we weren't going to improve. In truth, we had no hope of avoiding God's judgment before Jesus took it for us. God proved His love for us. That makes Him worth trusting.

The white mist – the ubiquitous substance of the highest levels of arcane world-bending, powered by the force of divinity – it was but a veil to what was to come. Barely had the party of five passed through the shrouded barrier before they witnessed a new sight. It was a realm of endless sunset, shining above a bleached city. The sight was astounding – kilometers upon kilometers of the colorless buildings, erected not from stone, but salt.
“Girls? Everyone’s still here?” Keyaruga asked, afraid to lose his senses in this accursed fog. Even if it subsided a little, one could still be trapped in its obscurity. He turned around, fully expecting to find himself separated from his group. At least, his golden egg was still with him.
“Setsuna’s here!” Ellen reported, holding onto her new glorified anti-stress toy. Which was just as endearing, as it was strange. After all, where are the rest?
“Freia? Eve?” The man yelled, grabbing the she-wolf by her wrist, just to keep her and his ‘sister’ near.
“Dissipare!” Well, that didn’t last long. Not only did the sorceress notify everyone about her presence with a loud chant, she also slammed the salty pavement with her staff. The wave of gold rippled across the vicinity, dissipating every last trace of the veil that Caladrius had placed on them. “Huh, finally! We’ve been seeking you for hours…” The heroine lamented, holding Eve by her hand.
“Hours? We’ve just entered this…” The healer mused, but he couldn’t finish the line, as the black-winged girl towards on him, hugging his torso, barely holding her tears.
“I thought… I’ve lost you forever!” The verdant woman exclaimed, her eyes wet with unshed tears, unwilling to let go of the red-eyed lad.
“Heh, welcome to hell, kids! I suggest we all hold our hands, so that this plague-spitter can’t bamboozle us anymore.
“Uh-huh. Good plan.” The wolf girl agreed, making sure the man’s grip on her wrist wouldn’t waver.
“I don’t like this place already. This thing… this realm – even time itself doesn’t flow properly here.” The elder princess complained, who was now holding onto Eve, who, in turn, wouldn’t let go of Keyaruga.
“Well, that’s a good start, don’t you think?” The hero scoffed, activating his jade eye. Everyone was here, but nobody smiled at his sarcastic joke. Not really surprising, seeing as Caladrius almost succeeded in cutting off Freia, the only one who possessed the proper insight about pocket dimensions, and substantial firepower enough to actually oppose the feathered deity. “Alright, let’s keep it this way. Setsuna, I need your senses. I need your eyes and ears in case I miss something here.” The man, being a cold-blooded leader, shared his first order.
“Uh-huh, already doing it.” The huntress responded, giving a brief glance over at Ellen, who frantically looked around. She recalled the last night, thought about it. The two of them weren’t truly lovers, they weren’t even friends. Setsuna just found herself to be a pillar of the princess’ emotional stability. There wasn’t love, like that between her and Keyaruga, nor the camaraderie that she and Freia shared. All she did was to not deny Ellen’s passion, that’s all.
“Good. Freia, use your heat vision, just in case.” Then, there was the second instruction from the lad. Although this one…
“I already did. Aside from us, there’s nothing, no sources of heat. Either we’re alone here… or whatever can live here doesn’t produce warmth.” The magician assumed, constantly draining magic with her staff. Absorbing energy here felt like breathing in the mountains… “The mana is thin here, so be careful about that too.”
“Hmm… I guess, Ellen was right. Caladrius indeed drains everything around her.” Eve deadpanned, sounding a little depressed. It was her trial, and yet, it awoke nothing but primal fear in her soul.
“I can’t hear anything.” The ice warrior reported calmly. Now, with the fog being blown away by Freia’s power, only the eerie cold void surrounded them under the fixed sun. No enemies to fight, no voices to be heard, only the empty towers of salt loomed above the contenders.
“I sure hope we haven’t messed up with the date.” Keyaruga contemplated, moving across the seemingly endless street. “As for now, I suppose, we have nothing better to do than just walk through that avenue.”
“What else can we do? Seems like this pigeon’s just being shy.” The younger princess chuckled, looking around her. The buildings, although made from the same material, were of eras long before the present day. Their architecture betrayed the early culture of the southern Jioral lands, Tarnia, the ancient kingdom to the west of it, some belonged to the lands of Garalis, but for the most part – it seemed like someone went and stole the buildings, or entire districts even, from the various regions of Tenanulic. “Heh, seems like our prey is a serious connoisseur of improvised urban development projects. Too bad nobody told her laying everything in a single pile, with all the buildings overlapping each other, is unaesthetic at the very least.” Ellen commented with a mix of awe for the highly detailed recreations, and outright mockery for the lack of originality.
“Well, at least we won’t get tired of the view anytime soon.” Freia tried alleviating the situation with some light humor, and this one had worked much better than Keyaruga’s sneering.
“I’d rather we get out of here.” Well, almost. Eve still felt incredibly uncomfortable: the weight of responsibilities, the stress, the shame for the previous night, when she failed to satisfy her guardian – all of that weighed on the shoulders of the queen-to-be in this dead city.
“Don’t be sad, birdie. As long as we stay together, we can handle it.” Keyaruga said, facing the girl with his the right eye closed. His eyeball rolled inside, making sure the supreme god of these lands wouldn’t steal his companions without the lad noticing.
“I hope…” Eve muttered, averting her gaze from the man’s face. After all, the thick nerve bulged though his shut eyelid.

Two hours. Two hours of unending walking throughout the endless maze of salt which ultimately lead them to nowhere. The road was still there, but the architecture seemed more and more obscure. No longer were the buildings layered on top of one another some sort of bizarre exception, as every house the party had come across was seemingly the work of a twisted genius, that defied not only common sense, but the rules of the physical universe themselves. Inverted structures, mosaics of unimaginable forms, some of them even seemed as if they were something from a different dimension entirely.
“Well, girls? What do you make of it?” Keyaruga, getting mentally tired of the unending walking, asked of his allies, right as Freia gave each of them a cup of water she had conjured.
“I think, it’s something right out of our dreams. In all honesty, aside from the mortal danger, I like this place.” Freia, being a beacon of enthusiasm, voiced her excitement. To her, this was a place of learning and perpetual astonishment.
“Ye-e-eah! I know a few archaeologists, who’d kill just to visit here.” Ellen added, trying to keep her own curiosity in check. After all, who could guarantee that she’d find a way back after leaving the road? “Too bad it belongs to the worst pigeon I’ve ever known.”
“Her name is Caladrius.” Eve spoke sternly, cautious of disrespecting the god in her own domain. “And she’s…”
“She’s trying to starve us.” Setsuna concluded, stomping on the salty pavement under her feet.
“That’s right. We won’t attain anything just by loitering around.” The fallen warlady judged, approaching her elder sibling. “Sister, break this illusion already! I’m getting tired of this crap!”
“Hm… Keyaruga, what would you say?” The sorceress, uneager to make hasty decisions based on Ellen’s bias, asked the most reasonable man around (and the only one as well).
“Do it, Freia. We need to find the god bird anyway.” He responded sternly. His jade eye worked as intended, but it showed nothing but an endless wasteland of salt and mist.
“Be ready.” Setsuna spoke to Eve, holding her shoulder now.
“He-heh… Ready…” The kokuyoku scion muttered, expecting to face her doom. Well, at least it would be swift, unlike this endless marching under a still sun.
The Hero of Magic stuck her staff into the ground and began chanting. Her words, unlike regular spells, were practically indistinguishable from each other, more like the blabbering of a mindless old hag one would think of when imagining a stereotypical witch rather than what Freia actually was. The plane began to ripple, the salt – crack, revealing the glimpses of the real world, its mountains and the morning luminary.
“Oh shit…” Ellen cursed with a nervous grin on her face. Right as the valley began crumbling in on itself, the mist thickened, dark clouds began forming above the party. “FREIA! MAGPIE! SHIELD US!!!” The princess screamed. Although it was still only slightly cold, a peculiar snow began falling from the sky.
“Finally!” The healer spat through his teeth, casting a green sphere with a brand of a blue bird above it. He was the first to react, thus covering his party with the dome of protection, but the ground began to rumble, completely breaking the sorceress from her concentration, as now she struggled to stand on her feet.
“Keyaruga, look!” Eve yelled, pointing on the tower rising in front of them. No, not tower… “It’s Kinacrith!” The entire city emerged on top of the ruins, erupting from the earth itself in a deafening roar.
“We must get over there quickly!” Ellen deadpanned, pointing at the mighty citadel of the Obsidian Throne. Or, at least, its copy. The harbinger of plague decorated her realm based on the lands she brought to peril, and now, she had a proof of that – her white feathers brought doom to this city in the first world. “There she… Auch!”
“Tch! I know!” Keyaruga exclaimed, grabbing Ellen underneath his armpit. Now, under the snowfall of death, they had to act fast. After all, the man couldn’t hold off the diseased flakes, their corruption overtook his barrier, spreading through his right arm to the rest of the body.
“Keyaruga, you’re dying!” Eve stressed, looking at the lad’s pale face. He, Freia, Setsuna, and the queen-to-be ran forward, but it seemed like Caladrius specifically targeted the hero, trying to break his defense.
“I’m fine! Georgius helps…” The man replied, although it wasn’t his usual voice that left his bluish lips. It was a growl, a wheeze, a…
His immunity didn’t work. Panakea blessed him with invulnerability to all poisons and maladies, but this was something else. A divine plague, an aliment of legends which shifted its form every second, preventing any attempts at getting used to its ruinous effects.
In the end, Keyaruga’s barrier fell, corroded by the godly affliction, and the piles of snow, which, upon a closer look, turned out to be ash, now were about to fall onto the rest of the group. Georgius, his disembodied divine armament, had run out of ambient mana, and so, the man had crumbled, and with him – Ellen now crawled on the ground, calling for him, but her words were silent for the healer.
“R… ru…” And then, his vision got dark. This time, the death came for him for sure. This time…
“Venite in auxilium nostrum, o magnus ventus Aquilonis!” Freia yelled, waving her staff of the blood tree above her head. Through the breach she conjured into this world, the sorceress summoned a great spirit of northern wind to swipe the poisoned powder out of the air. The mighty storm formed a vortex above the party, allowing for the brief respite.
“Come on, get up!” Eve snarled, working with Setsuna to pick the lad up.
“Now, fast! I can’t keep it up for long!” The heroine alerted, tossing a potion of green and red to Ellen. “Drink it, Elly! We’ve got much running ahead of us!”
“Pfeh, as if I don’t see that.” The crimson-haired girl scoffed, heading after the rest of the group.
The snowfall and the storm, the flakes of plague, suppressed by the great element of air accompanied the contenders on their path toward Kinacrith’s copy, erected from the salt.
“Ghh… I… how long-?..” Keyaruga woke up soon afterwards. With the immaterial gauntlet having healed his poisoned body, he found himself among a city comprised of proper forms and shapes, but his vision was still blurry.
“Keyaruga?.. HE’S ALIVE!!!” Eve yelled, obviously trying to outcry the tempest. Unfortunately, though, the girls had no time to celebrate, as all of them had to outrun the time itself, making sure the snowfall of death wouldn’t bury them underneath.
“Setsuna… Eve…” When the lad completely came back to his senses, he found out that he was actually being carried by these two, but his legs were dragging along the floor. “It’s alright! I can run myself!” He broke free, regaining his leading position in this mortal race.
“HOW DO WE STOP IT?!” The black-winged prodigy loudly asked… well, whoever could hear it in this deafening hell of wind and plague.
“Haa… Haa… THE TOWER! ABOVE IT!!!” Ellen pointed out, spotting a small white ball on top of Kinacrith’s peak. “IT’S HER!!! SHOOT THE FUCKER!!!” The princess urged, demanding destruction. As much as this order was born out of fear and confusion, there was a logical reason behind it. After all, if this was a test, then surely the cruel mistress of this place desired to be found.
“A-A-A-A-AGH!!! HURRY!!! THE WIND IS GETTING WEAKER!!!” Freia cried, barely holding her staff in the air with her trembling arm. Another few seconds, and the ambient mana would make it explode into bloody pieces.
“EVE!!!” The Hero of Healing yawped, sending beam after beam of light magic into the sphere. Most of the projectiles, sent by the man, couldn’t hit the spot. The ones that did, though, only chipped away its shining shell.
“HASTA LUMINIS!!!” The girl joined the bombardment. She joined forces with her guardian, and together, they brought enough firepower to just barely break through whatever protection the creature had set off. As Setsuna prepared to raise a dome of ice, and Ellen just silently prayed for her team, the hero and his queen finally succeeded. Finally…
The bright and powerful explosion destroyed not only the sphere, the endless city of salt and void crumbled into nothingness. It was as if the glass dome began scattering in the wind, and with it, all the clouds and ruinous snow. The illusion was broken, and now, all five of them stood amidst the rocky valley. And from above the cliff, basked in the light of morning sun, a giant white bird, clad in gold and jewels, gazed upon them with her four eyes.
Caladrius, the true goddess of plague and rejuvenation now loomed above the party. What was even more hilarious, though, was the party found themselves not really far from where their two raptors were waiting for them, they could even spot Kelly and Patty on the horizon.
“You performed marvelously in overcoming the Trial of Body, little ones…” The grandiose bird stated, as her eyes began glowing in gold.
“KILL IT, SISTER!!! BURN IT WITH FIRE-E-E-E!!!”
“…now, it is time for the Trial of Heart!”
Alas, Ellen’s hysteria proved useless, as Freia hadn’t even a single extra second to aim, let alone properly chant a spell. Caladrius spread her grandeur wings, and everyone found themselves trapped in the dark.

He travelled through a pitch black, unending void. With no sound, nor light to orient himself around, the red-haired lad had to walk in a seemingly random direction. Not even the jade eye could pierce through this veil of emptiness, though.
“Girls? You there?” Despite his concern over his companions, Keyaruga sensed none of them. If Caladrius failed to separate them the first time, then now she definitely succeeded.
If your heart is weak, you can’t pass, such were the words of Mil, and, honestly, the oppressive solitude was unsettling all by itself. But then…
“I HATE YOU!”
“BASTARD!”
“PADARA (faggot)!”
“YOU! I LOST EVERYTHING BECAUSE OF YOU!”
“HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!”
“TANOUTUR (murderer)!”
“CURSED HERETIC!”
Voices, dozens, hundreds, united in their refined hostility and contempt toward the Hero of Healing. Those he killed, those he trampled upon, those who he tortured to death. From raging bulls to soldiers the boy had to silence upon his escape, slavers and raiders, black dogs and Norn’s spearmen, thugs and robbers.
“YOU’VE STOLEN MY FLARE!!!” Leonard, the despicable sadist covered in blood, roared, running with his sword, ready to cut down the one who murdered him. He… “A-A-A-A-A-A-AH!!! MY A-A-A-ARM!!!” …was disarmed instantly. The black blood of his tainted soul now painted Keyaruga’s saber, as he…
“Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-a!!!” …laughed like a mad man. Oh, the realization came to him. These were the ones whose lives he had taken with his own hand. The hero had to fall under the weight of his sins, supposedly. Did that stop him from beheading the one, who took his family? Oh no! No-o-o!
“YOU CAN’T KILL ME NOW, YOU LITTLE SHIT!” Even when the thug in royal armor rose from a pool of his own blood, Keyaruga never stopped grinning. When the dead souls began charging at him, wave after wave, he rejoiced. These were the challengers, eager to avenge their deaths…
“AHA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!” Keyaruga loudly chuckled. He chopped through Leonard’s head like a melon, grabbed the slaver, who sold him Setsuna, by his neck, crushed his balls with a knee, tossed his body into the crowd, slashed a soldier, kicked the fanatic, who oversaw the execution of his fellow villagers, crushed his nasty skull under his boot… “THANK YOU!!!” …grabbed his blade, dragged it, soaked it in his own blood, while the wailing mongrels stabbed and slashed him. It’s okay, when he swung, when the heroic blood fell upon them, they cried in pain, bursting like the enormous abscesses they were. “THANK YOU, MOMMY CALADRIUS, FOR THIS MAJESTIC PLAYGROUND!!!”
The man yelled, chuckled, smiled… He ran across the dome of darkness, he lightened it with shining entrails; he burned his enemies with waves of fire, incinerated them with the lightning arcs. He killed, stomped, disgraced, disfigured, amputated, slammed, cut, broke bones, ripped hearts, took heads, and clubbed the poor bastards with their own severed limbs. They died, but rose again to take another chance at killing their tormentor, and everything started anew. This was the vicious circle of vengeance that the man enjoyed so very much and in it…

“NONE OF YOU DESERVE MY MERCY!!!”
Was he right, though? Aside from various monsters, rushing into the carnival of gore, two people watched the lad’s brutality closely. Their eyes were full of despair… and disappointment.

While Keyaruga relished in his trial, Eve had to thread her path of emptiness with nothing and nobody to rely on. No enemies, no curses, no violence, no dark blood. Instead, she was met… by shadows.
“Ni-ni-ni-ni-ni (no-no-no-no-no)!” She once again walked along the infinite road, but this time, no ally accompanied her, there was no friendship to call upon, no love to rely on. Only them – two columns of her brethren, bowing before their queen. Kneeling… to fade into her shining feathers. “Yoku shia horka in (don’t come into my wings)!” The verdant woman covered her teary eyes, waved off her subjects, she even tried shielding herself by pathetically embracing her wings. But there was no stopping it. Her friends, parents, guardians, servants, elders – dozens upon dozens of those, who chose her to be the vessel of their souls, were now stuck in this life.
Soon, all of the shadows went inside Eve’s feathers. None of them harbored any grudge against her, and even if they did, their spiritual form had no mouths to properly voice them.
But even so, Eve wasn’t allowed to get out of this hellish dome just yet.
Step. Step. Step.
A massive figure, slightly higher then two meters tall, emerged between the kneeling girl. A leonine figure carrying a long, bloodied stick, it was skinned, and his own pelt rested on his armored shoulders. He came to conquer. He…
“Ushi, orna saikalla, setoan (you belong to me, woman)!” The demon, the bestial figure, humans tended to generalize ma-zok people to be, said, grabbing the Me-ua kahul by her chin with his clawed paw. “Yau ma, orn wor tanoute (how dare you murder me)?” The dead soul accused Eve, pushing her to the ephemeral ground.
“…” She was scared, Eve couldn’t even move a muscle, couldn’t speak, couldn’t breathe – the queen-to-be knew this man, she didn’t know, how, but she just knew! He was the one Keyaruga hinted at, when lamenting her lost family. He was…
“C… Cor… nar…” …the husband the ascended Me-ua had in the first world. Someone she saw as a soulmate, someone who blessed her with many victories and two beautiful children, someone… “Soguri (stand back)!” …the kokuyoku prodigy feared and hated, but had no will to oppose him back there. And now…
“Orna kalla (you’re mine)!” The skinned lion spoke, pulling off his pants, revealing a disgustingly dismembered spiked penis. The black blood flowed out of it, as some intangible force cramped Eve’s mind with memories. They were her own, from another life, another timeline, but they were there, and they shackled her will. Even… Even if she wanted to fight back.
Keyaruga wouldn’t do that to her! Keyaruga wouldn’t rape her! Keyaruga wouldn’t berate her! Keyaruga wouldn’t belittle her! Keyaruga wouldn’t do that! Keyaruga!.. Keya… ru…
“KEYARU!!! KEYA-A-A-A-RU-U!!! SAVE ME-E-E!!!” Eve screamed, fruitlessly trying to punch the undead monstrosity.
You can’t just kick a god to death, though.
Yes… Yes! But he wasn’t a god! He was!..
“Marno (it’s useless). Oma pora kanbu (I’m gonna rape you).” The nightmare spoke, outright choking the girl. She had no strength to…
Why? There’s magic, there’s might, there’s so much… So much…
A call resounded inside Eve’s very being. An urge, a wish, an order. She had the power, a little army, which desired to be called upon.

She had to. The flow of time itself stopped, just to give the future queen this chance. Outside of it, nothing but doom and misery awaited her.
I… Don’t want…
No matter what she wanted, there were people who truly wished her good. People, who loved her for real… Her new family.
K… Keya… Keyaruga!
That’s right. A flux of power rose from within her, a load of motivation, a surge to overpower fear and regret. Time resumed its movement. And with it…
“UO-O-O-O-O-O!!!” A shadowy figure flew across the black dome, leaving a giant hole inside the rapist’s chest. A savior came to Eve, and she looked familiar.
“M… MOM!!!” Eve, released from her fear, charged forward to hug her mother, but alas, Cornar came back from the dead, standing on his paws once more, he pushed the ghost woman away, and resumed his march toward the kokuyoku scion. But she wasn’t just a descendant of this tribe, Eve Reese was its righteous princess! The one and only queen! “How dare you do this to me?! How dare you claim me?!” As she spoke, more and more shadows emerged from within her wings to assault the perpetrator. It doesn’t matter if he remembered their erased future, doesn’t matter if he had a relationship with the ruler of the Confederation. Right now, he was just a threat, an enemy of the queen.
And what does the royal guard do to enemies of their monarch?
They kill them!
