2023.05.31 17:51 Any_Economist_7493 Fuck Peoria Charter and their shitty management

Spent $41 dollars on a ticket from downers grove to Illini terminal. Bus driver was was not only late but as we were finally about to leave she realized she forgot to pick someone up from the previous spot and therefore we had to drive the complete opposite direction to pick up ONE person. By the time we left oakbrook mall it was 9pm when my ticket said the bus would leave for Illini terminal at 8:15. Called management and he didn’t even care his only response was he “can’t go back in time” to fix it so I’ll just have to deal with it. Fuck Peoria charter I can get a train ticket for cheaper and it doesn’t go back to previous stops they just forgot to go to. So just want to say a big fuck you to whoever runs that shitty company

2023.05.31 17:50 GSDlover3637 CTR Nursing

Hi! I am trying to figure out what my course schedule should look like. I have the required courses list from the academic calendar but I was hoping any current CTF nursing students could give me some advice on which courses are heavier vs others and what they would recommend a semester look like.
Also, is it 6 courses per semester always or is it sometimes 7? I'm guessing I will get more information before the enrollment date which looks like won't be until June 17th... but I am really hoping to have a general idea asap.
And side question - does anyone manage to have a part-time job while in this program and if so how many hours on average do you do? Do you find it a lot more stressful doing both?
Thanks!!

2023.05.31 17:50 redlinepies Leaving the social work field: where can I go from here based on my degree, experience and location?

I currently live in NYC, and graduated college with a BA in Applied Psychology and Human Relations.
In upstate new york: I had 2 internships in college in the field of psychology, did a service year immediately after college, and began working in a psych-related job immediately after my return. I quit when the pandemic happened (work environment didnt respect employee health), then started working in a supervision position in a psychology and community-based setting 6 months later. I worked at a Cafe for those 6 months in between.
I worked that supervision position for one year for very low pay, and very high stress, working a 6th day every week at a Cafe to supplement my income. I was promoted to a manager position, but at this point I was so burnt out from working so much under such high stress. I did the math and calculated that I would still need to work a 6th day to afford rent even with my promotion. I even calculated that the raise I would get with receiving a Masters degree would still warrant me working a 6th day to afford rent and bills.
During all this time, I was in a relationship with someone who lived an hour away in nyc. He made 3x as much as me, and when he told me how much we'd be paying in rent if we cohabitated, I decided to leave my management position and move to nyc with him. I immediately got a job at a coworking space as an assistant manager where I developed skills like website content writing, grant writing, writing sponsorship proposals, venue management, and basic graphic design skills.
The coworking space closed because it was run by someone who had no experience in the field, and their lack of a clear vision or business skills kept our clientele to zero in my 4 months there. I was also their only employee and worked alone 8 hours a day making up things to do which is when I was able to teach myself such valuable skills.
I received a part-time and well-paid nanny/household manager position for a wealthy family in a HCOL area in NYC and I also work a couple extra days at a Cafe. Both jobs are awesome and I have great employers, but I'm so scared of where to go next. Ive been working at both places for a year and 3 months. I'm only working 29-35 hours a week, and I'm at a point where I want to start making some real money. I want to pay off the debt im in from living with such low pay for so long, and I want to be able to afford groceries again. My partner and I had our rent raised a lot, he has some personal expenses that bring us a lot lower, and we are barely scraping by even with his salary.
Does anyone know where I can go from here? I'm so lost. I used to see a career counselor but my insurance no longer covers it. I want to know what career trajectory I can try to take next with my skills. I don't see myself going back to social work and psychology-related jobs because of the high stress, low pay and constantly being taken advantage of by both my employers and clients. If anyone has experience with making a career change from the psychology field OR finding a well-paid job with a psychology bachelors, any advice is appreciated.
tl;dr: I graduated as a psych-major, left the field because of low pay and high stress, dabbled in coworking space management, now I'm a nanny and batista for the last year and three months and want to find a solid career trajectory to take so I can receive a livable income.

2023.05.31 17:50 InuLuj32 Should I accept an offer from a consulting firm or take the risk and wait for a better company?

TLDR: I currently have a job in a niche field with low pay and low WLB. I want to switch jobs and got 2 interviews, one of them which will likely bring me an offer by next week. The other one (which is the company I really want to get into) has scheduled the final interview in 1 month and I'm not sure I'll be able to succeed the interview. Should I wait for the interview at the company I like or take the offer from the company which is really interested in hiring me?

Hey everyone,
I'm torn between several choices in my current situation.
I'm currently a developer in a niche field (games) since 1+ year.
I don't really like the job and the pay is rather on the low end.
So, I've been applying to different jobs posting as I've decided 1+ year here was enough experience to switch jobs.
Currently, I've had 2 interviews:
- First one at company X. Totally different field (web/mobile app dev/a bit of security) and a lot of opportunities to grow. I can even choose which team I'd like more to go into. The thing is I've got another technical interview which I'm not sure at all I'll succeed and that inteview is scheduled in 1 month. Salary is good, WLB too (15min commute, 1 day homeworking).
- Second company Y is a consulting firm which would send me in a company also active in the gaming field. I've had several interviews with them and they're really happy with who I am and my skills. I should probably receive an offer in the next week. I estimate that pay will be a bit better than where I am now (although not by a meaningful difference). WLB not that great (1h commute, no homeworking). The consulting company told me that after the project's done (around 1 year long), I will be able to switch to another field (web dev, backend probably).

So the question is: my preferred choice is company X (tech stack, getting out of the gaming field which isn't lucrative or rewarding enough, salary, WLB, homeworking, ...) but what should I do if I receive an offer from company Y as I'm not sure at all the company X will send me an offer?
I could of course just stay at my current company, refuse Y's offer and wait (and hope) for an offer from X in which the worst case scenario I just stay at my current company. BUT, at my current company I've been told already several times that the managers weren't happy with my work (they're asking for impossible deadlines as they've got no technical ideas of the constraints and the required amount of work). So there is a possibility that I'll just get fired in the next 3 months or so.
Concerning the salaries/advantages:
- Current 2200€ net, no car, no fuel card, no laptop/phone, no bonus (except for 13th month), poor WLB
- Company X: 2100€ net, great car, 150€ fuel card, group + hospital insurances, more WLB
- Company Y: probably around 2000€ net, random car, fuel card, group + hospital insurances, poor WLB

So, fellow devs, what's your advice ?
Thank you for your time and your answers!

2023.05.31 17:48 Kindly_One_6756 The USA is obviously by far the easiest place to get rich, but once you're rich is it easier to stay rich in europe?

It's obviously easier to accumulate money in the USA compared to everywhere else because of how high the salaries are/low income tax is. However.... once you are rich this no longer seems to be true. In fact it seems like it is easier to just exist and live off investments in at least the UK but I bet lots of countries in europe are similar.
Just a few examples:
The one area I can think of where the US wins is that the state pension is far more generous but I don't think this cancels the rest of this out.
Am I onto something here or completely missing the point?

2023.05.31 17:46 rambonette {Help} Smell of petrol outside the vehicle for the first 60km after filling up the car w/ Ford Fusion (Europe) 1.4 Duratec (2008)

Good morning everyone!
I turn here in search of some kind soul who would like to point me in the right direction.
Before I get into the matter at hand, I would like to spend a few words to describe a bit of the general background of the car in question.
I recently came into possession of a 2008 gasoline-powered Ford Fusion (the European version) equipped with a Duratec 1.4L engine. This is a discontinued model that was sold in Europe (2002 to 2012) that has nothing in common with the American Fusion. Old car but cosmetically very well maintained and with only 70,000km.
After a few checks I went to the gas station to fill it up. I would like to mention that I was very careful not to spill a single drop on the ground or on the car. I then decide to go for a test drive. After a few minutes of driving with the windows down I begin to smell a strong odor of gasoline. Fearing that it was a leak from the tank or on the fuel line I stopped the car and with the help of jack I inspected underneath the car. The tank and the hoses in particular. no visible leak, no traces, nothing. I then decided to go to the local mechanic. after a few dozen kilometers, however, the smell vanished. i took the car to the mechanic anyways. he also performed the same inspections as I did with the car running but without finding anything.
The mechanic tells me that it is probably a few drops dropped during refueling.
After a few days I return to the gas station to refuel and the pungent gasoline is back.
I apologize in advance for my ignorance in this matter; I am young and novice. However, I am all ears and hope to absorb some knowledge. I hope I have managed to describe the situation as best I can and thank in advance anyone who would like to give me any tips or advice!
Cheers fro Italy!

2023.05.31 17:44 Marchesa_07 How to push back when company refuses to promote?

I work in Healthcare IT for Managed Services handling an EHR system for a hospital system in PA. I've been working in this field for over 2 years, with a clear path to advancement in place by my managers.
Then last year my company was purchased by a Canadian SW company.
There are now no monetary promotions for internally promoted employees; there is an attainment bonus system which is a rebranded PIP. If you meet certain metrics, you are paid out a quarterly bonus, with no guarantee that bonus will become part of your base pay the following year.
My managers have been attempting to promote myself and 2 other employees from Associate Business Analyst to Business Analyst for 6 months and their attempts have been rejected. In that time several other Business Analyst positions have opened up for my site, which I have applied to and informed my managers, but those positions have either been filled externally or in the latest case filled internally via promoting a part time employee to a full-time position.
Most recently an Analyst position was posted with salary range- that's key because in PA companies are not required to post salaries and in the past when I directly asked HR what the salary ranges are for Associate and Analyst they cited PA law and refused to disclose to me.
The Analyst job description is verbatim, identical to my current job except for level of experience and the pay range.
So my question unto you all, aside from quitting, what can I do to put pressure on the company? How can I "work my wage" when it's the exact same as an Analyst to begin with?

2023.05.31 17:41 RagdollTW Discrepancy between Utilization Expectations and Assigned Work

Hi Consulting Folks,
I wanted to seek some expert perspective on how I should approach this organizational issue (if at all).
I’m a junior level consultant working at a boutique firm, who is expected to utilize approximately 80% of my workday and track my time. In practice, I am not billing 80% of my day because I’m not being assigned enough work. This is the same for other junior level employees. What sucks is that this is unbilled time is on the record and suggests I don’t “add value”, but I can’t assign myself billable work.
Generally, I like my job because it is intellectually stimulating and sometimes fast-paced, which works well for me at my current place in life.
That said, I’ve been struggling to reconcile the mismatch between the expectations of my role set by the firm and what is actually happening day to day - in short, as an junior level consultant I’m expected to execute on projects rather than do internal non-billable work (business development, etc). However, I’m not given enough work to actually bill 80% of my time without completely blowing the budget of a particular project and making my project manager unhappy - so I end up just sitting idle or having to keep myself busy with non-billable work, which overall looks bad on my performance.
It’s really tough and weird. Some people dream about being paid to essentially do nothing, but as a young professional I really do not want to jeopardize a career I’ve been working so hard to secure. I’m also financially independent, so I really need to do my job well.
I’ve been trying to be perceptive and check in with others who have the same role as me, and it seems they are struggling with the exact same thing.
My overall sense is that it is linked to the fact that the firm isn’t bringing in enough work (as this is happening to many other firms) - but overall I don’t really know what to do. Do I just say nothing about this issue and hope that things get better?
If I’m being honest, I ultimately don’t mind if I’m still employed and collecting my salary. But I don’t want to look bad at the end of the year if my utilization is low and be seen as an employee who doesn’t meet expectations when it feels like it’s impossible to meet them… does that make sense?
Thanks for reading in advance

2023.05.31 17:41 SirDaddySpank_ Hand Animations Different in Unity Vs In-Game?

I have been making avatars for a while but have only just noticed that when I make hand animations for the usual gestures (finger guns, fist, ect) that the proxy hand animations in The Unity Animator / Gesture Manager differ from how they are displayed in-game causing the fingers to clip though the hand when squeezing the index controllers or just in general fingers being in different positions
I assumed it was some issue with incorrectly set layers but all the gesture layers were set to override, is this an issue with how Vrchat handles gestures somehow playing the animation beyond its stopping point?

2023.05.31 17:38 Competitive_Band_745 The (hopefully) final post: Does prestige matter?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions on A2C: whether or not the prestige of your undergraduate institution matters.
Before answering it once and for all, we have to define "prestige" and "matter", as people have different conceptions of what it means leading to hugely unproductive arguments. By "prestige", I mean perceived prestige, how name-brand a school is in that industry and to the general public. By "matter", I mean how much tangible benefit that school will bring you professionally, not how much you can impressive a layperson.
The short answer is that you can think of prestige "mattering" as a spectrum. In certain industries, it matters more, whereas in other industries, it matters less. Certainly, attending a perceived prestigious institution never hurts, but across the board, it is neither necessary or required for having a fruitful or lucrative career. A prestigious institution simply may make your path easier in some industries, but by no means is a requirement to be successful in any job you wish to pursue.
On one end of the spectrum, where prestige matters more, are industries that offer expensive services and need to justify those prices. Here, we commonly find industries like Investment Banking, Consulting, Quantitative Trading, Law* etc. In these industries, firms are charging thousands of dollars for clients to work with their teams, and as a result, they need a way to justify their prices.
This leads to perceived prestige mattering more. It is unfortunately easier for a company to say "You will be working with an Ivy League graduate" and charge high prices, causing these industries to focus their recruitment on these prestigious schools. This is where you hear the phrase "target school", these are certain universities that are recruited more heavily because of their perceived name-brand and also high level of education (Ivy+s, top public schools, etc). This is absolutely NOT to say you need to attend a target school to get into a top firm like Goldman Sachs, but these top firms will focus their recruitment mostly on these set of schools. It is undoubtedly easier to recruit into top firms from perceived prestigious schools.
On the other end of the spectrum, where prestige matters less, are industries that offer essential or more day-to-day services. Here, we commonly find sectors like commercial banking, graduate schools (vet/medical/PhD etc), computer science, etc. Of course, attending a prestigious school will definitely help, but its impact is less dramatic compared to the previously mentioned industries. In these fields, people care more about the value and skills you bring, not your perceived "shininess".
This results in a more diversity of schools being represented here, if you look at a top computer science destination like Amazon, you can see thousands of schools attended by their employees. Similarly, there are thousands of incredible physicians who graduated from all sorts of undergraduate schools, patients care first and foremost about the level of care you bring them, not the school you went to.
So simultaneously, prestige both matters more than some people make it out to be and matters less than what others make it out to be. Those who claim that you HAVE to attend an Ivy League to work on Wall Street are lying to you, and similarly those who claim that prestige does not matter AT ALL are also lying to you.
At the end of the day, it is on the individual to work their way up. Going to a name-brand institution ONLY helps you out of the gate, once you begin accumulating work experience, employers no longer care about your college name and only care about what you have actually accomplished with your career. You are not guaranteed anything by going to a top school and neither are you doomed by going to a state school.
Prestigious institutions may offer more opportunities while in college, but once you actually start your career, it is on you to succeed regardless of where you came from. Best of luck!
*Undergraduate school is not important for law school admissions, but law school attended matters for post-grad outcomes (hence T14)

2023.05.31 17:38 RedSamda Sessional work pay and tax year changes

I work for a public service, I have 22.5 contracted hours and since July last year I have been working 15 hours as a sessional/bank employee for part of the service (however if I have leave or sick it is less/no hours).
I have not been paid for the bank hours since the end of September, I raised this with both my line manager and service manager in November who said they were sorting this. I sent them up to date hours in January and February that were still unpaid from September. I then had a period of sickness and I have since handed in my notice for both roles.
I sent them further up to date hours in April and again in May and will be ending the role soon. In those emails I asked about tax and pension contributions as we have moved from the 22-23 tax year to 23-24 tax year, they have not given me an answer about it.
I received a P60 from the bank role in April however I would like my hours worked and pension contributions to be included in that tax year as it could mess up my tax this year and put a chunk of my salary for my new job in the higher tax bracket.
I have checked ACAS but I couldn't find anything related to tax/pension if being paid with worker status outside of the tax year the hours were worked.
I have a contact email for HR and I am planning on emailing them, I wondered if there were any key things I should mention?
Is this likely or possible for wages to paid but taxed for the previous year? Or is this just a lesson I have to learn for the future.
Edit to add: I'm in England

2023.05.31 17:37 Which_Assumption_992 Groomed as a Teenager. I'm lucky to still be here.

I'm really sorry if this isn't the right subreddit to talk about this. Please take it down if it isn't. I realise that the stories people have told here are so much more traumatic, and I feel mine isn't even close to comparable as I never was actually abused. I mainly wanted to mention this just to sort of... I guess get it out there and maybe... just maybe meet someone who experienced the same as me.
Back when I was around 15-16, I broke up with my ex and I was beyond heartbroken. I basically cried for days and wanted to find anyone who would give me even the tiniest bit of affection. Somehow though, and I know this was a beyond stupid idea... I decided to go onto Omegle to meet people. I met a guy who called himself Julian, saying he was from France and was a medical student. He was incredibly nice to me and often went out of his way to praise me and make me feel good. Kinda exactly what I was begging for after my breakup.
We eventually started dating, with it being a long distance relationship as I was from the UK. We spoke for a few months online, though sadly being young and so blinded by the affection he gave me, I never realised how manipulative he truly was. The things he would say seemed so innocent and caring to me, but they were full of attempts to guilt-trip me while at the same time throwing in constant praise about how amazing I was, how cute and gorgeous I was. He would say all this while occasionally mentioning how if it wasn't for me, he'd of killed himself by now. We had casual talks but this was basically constant for several months. I didn't think anything of it because I was so in love with him.
After a few months went by, we planned to meet up someday. He wanted to come to the UK and take me on a trip to London... just us two.. alone. As I type this, I remember that he even mentioned wanted to specifically rent a car so we could just be alone on the trip. Again, being so naïve and blinded I didn't realise how questionable this was when aside from a few random images, I had never actually seen his face on a video call. He always refused claiming it was due to being shy. All I had was a few random images of some guy he claimed to be.
Soon after, I told my parents as I wanted them to know about this guy I had been dating and that he was coming to visit. My mum was cautious but I'm not sure if she thought much of it. She asked to meet the guy first which Julian claimed he was fine with. I kinda thought that meant he wasn't a danger until I realised years later that child groomers will often happily meet parents. My mum did though tell my Dad who I never actually intended to tell because we didn't really see each other much. When I next stayed at his, him and my step mum asked a number of questions and eventually asked to see my chats with him. I wasn't okay with it but he claimed that he'd only be okay with this if he could see our chats. It wasn't soon after that he refused to give me my phone back as he basically noticed the red flags immediately. He went through a number of conversations that were just unnatural, being full of constant praise, guilt-tripping, and generally hugely one sided towards me just so he could make me feel good. He told me how no one talks like this but I didn't believe him and had a full on meltdown over it trying to convince him that he is a good guy. He eventually took my phone, my laptop, and basically blocked me from accessing the internet completely. I honestly cried and cried. I hated him at the time.
When I went back to my mums, I was still horribly upset and full on breaking down. I was so distressed by everything that I remember literally hitting my head against the car trying to hurt myself. When I got home, I had my main computer that I could use so I finally got back in contact with Julian after everything. Little did I know that my Dad was actually using my Laptop to spy on me and this conversation I was having with him. He told my mum who immediately came storming upstairs to tell me to get off the Internet completely.
After a few hours, things sort of calmed down. I can't remember how but I managed to contact Julian again without my dad knowing and I proceeded to ask a number of questions about who he actually was. I had actually found a Facebook account of a guy who went by a different name but had the exact same photos that Julian had sent me. He claimed they were a friend who gave him permission to use his photos, but yet whenever I asked for him to send me even one photo of the actual him, he just made up excuses. He really just wouldn't tell me who he was, instead choosing to come up with constant excuses while throwing in the occasional guilt-trip about how he'd kill himself if we broke up. Despite all this though, I was still blinded and loved him. I mentioned to him that once I grew up, we can be together and I couldn't wait for the day. The last message I ever got from him was: "I promise you .. i won't give up that easy .. i will always think about you and try to smile my pain away everytime i wake up.. i promise i will be seeing and knowing that you are happy.. i promise you that from now on i won't be ready to run". I believe that was actually before my dad found out about us talking again.
I've tried to speak to him again over the years but never got a response. The accounts he used to talk to me seem to have been inactive since that day, and I can't find anything about him. He's pretty much a ghost and I feel I'll never truly know who he was. All I can say though is that I feel if my parents didn't intervene, I wouldn't be here today to make this post. I don't know what he would have done to me, but I guess its best not to think about it. I honestly worry about the people who maybe weren't as fortunate as I was. It actually scares me to know how close I was to losing everything, and the idea that maybe some people actually did...
But yea, That's the story of how I was groomed. I'm 24 now so it was quite a long time ago, and honestly I don't even think much of it nowadays. I honestly kinda feel like I should though. I really just wish I knew who he actually was but I know I'll never find out. I mean, the guy was like... 25 years old so the fact he was wanting to date a 15-16 year old and was actively sexual with me should have been a red flag. I guess the lesson here aside from don't speak to strangers on Omegle, especially if they are way older then you, is to not let your emotions get the better of you. All I wanted was affection after a breakup and it nearly costed me my life.

NeoVolta’s Backup System Saves MDX Labs’ Lifesaving Medications During Multiple Grid Outages
- Commercial Battery Backup System Has Prevented the Loss of MDX’s Critical Functions and Thousands of Dollars in Inventory During Numerous Power Failures
SAN DIEGO, May 09, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NeoVolta Inc. (NASDAQ: NEOV) – NeoVolta Inc., manufacturer of Smart Energy Storage Solutions, has kept MDX Labs protected during multiple grid outages with reliable battery backup. Thanks to NeoVolta, the laboratory’s critical functions (refrigeration, server, and lights) have kept running, saving thousands of dollars while sustaining lifesaving medications and vaccines.
Founded in 2020, Henderson-based MDX Labs is the top privately held molecular and clinical diagnostic laboratory in the state of Nevada. MDX provides on-site testing services to a range of manufacturers, casinos, entertainers, restaurants, and nonprofit organizations, and it is the official overflow laboratory for the Southern Nevada Health District.
MDX Labs houses large quantities of vaccines, patient samples, and medications that require refrigeration. When grid outages occurred in the past, MDX would often lose tens of thousands of dollars in product and face periods of product unavailability while awaiting restock. In late 2021, MDX began searching for a battery backup system and discovered NeoVolta, which features a clean lithium iron phosphate battery and a hybrid inverter that can accept 208-volt power connections. NeoVolta can also charge from the power grid, eliminating the need for solar installation. In March 2022, MDX Labs installed NeoVolta’s NV14 Energy Storage System.
“Being able to support commercial facilities that are powered with 208-volt electricity is an amazing capability. Transformers are not required, which saves customers thousands of dollars and eliminates loud equipment that gives off radiant heat,” said Brent Willson, CEO of NeoVolta. “Our energy storage solutions are a very smart investment, especially considering the cost and consequence of an outage that would result in the loss of vital medical supplies and medications. We are thrilled to be partnering with MDX, a world-class clinical diagnostic laboratory.” FULL ARTICLE

NeoVolta Poised for California’s NEM Incentives to Pair Solar with Battery Storage
- Additional $630 Million in California State Funding Set Aside to Support Residential Low-Income Solar Plus Storage Adopters
- NeoVolta Poised for California’s NEM Incentives to Pair Solar with Battery Storage
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 26, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NeoVolta Inc. (NASDAQ: NEOV) – NeoVolta Inc., manufacturer of Smart Energy Storage Solutions, announced today that it expects California’s recently updated Net Energy Metering (NEM) program to drive increased demand for energy storage systems.
On December 15, 2022, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued a decision to update the NEM tariff to promote consumer adoption of solar and battery storage. The program will go into effect on April 13, 2023. According to the CPUC, the move was designed to financially incentivize Californians to install both battery and solar systems.
The CPUC stated that the current NEM 2.0 program was not aligned with California’s grid reliability and climate goals, noting that the increased use of electricity between 4 and 9 p.m. causes dependence on fossil fuel gas plants to meet the demand. With the battery storage incentive, the CPUC hopes to see an increased adoption of residential energy storage that will better support the needs of the grid, with customers saving self-generated solar energy for use in the evening hours.
An additional $630 million in state funding has been set aside by the California State Legislature for residential low-income solar plus battery storage adopters. The decision bolsters federal incentives provided by the Inflation Reduction Act for solar and battery storage.
It’s important to note that NEM 3.0 is not retroactive. Rooftop solar systems installed under NEM 2.0 will remain under that policy for a 20-year grandfathering period. This means existing rooftop solar owners who add a battery after the April 13 deadline will not be subject to NEM 3.0.
“We expect that NEM 3.0 will make Californians more aware of their energy consumption, encouraging them to conserve energy and pair rooftop solar systems with battery storage,” said NeoVolta CEO Brent Willson. “Californians who adopt this strategy will dramatically reduce their electrical bills while increasing their energy resiliency during periods of prolonged blackouts, fires, and flooding.”
California’s vast solar plus storage market has a dramatic impact on the grid. California has about 12 GW of distributed solar generation already installed, equal to nearly 25% of peak demand statewide. California also has more than 80,000 customer-owned batteries connected to the grid, with a storage potential of 900 MW, according to a September 2022 study by the California Solar & Storage Association. 2023.05.31 17:35 magicmvj How to turn accounting background into a job that’s…not accounting?

I graduated with my master’s in Accounting in 2019 and finished my CPA in 2021. I worked in audit for 2 years and left before I made senior because fuck that. I’ve since worked at 2 other jobs doing basically corporate/general accounting and I hate it oh so much. I feel like I have to get away from this shit entirely. Even the thought of being promoted to manager or higher in an accounting job and having to do even more of this stuff fills me with dread.
How easy is it to transition from accounting to something like data analytics, revenue ops, or project management? I’m not trying to to back to school but I’d be open to doing maybe some online courses to learn skills. Has anyone used their accounting background to get into something completely different?

2023.05.31 17:32 Individual-Food6695 Industry Outlook (Rant)

Sometimes, I get depressed with our industry and lives. Looking for general advice, opinions, and discussion.
-About 7 years in, PM working on ~100M commercial project at a very prestigious GC, making 135+ car, gas, etc. -I have to work on-site from 7 AM to 6 PM 5 days a week. I also have a one hour commute each way. -In my high cost of living area, I can only afford a rental apartment. -Always exhausted from constant yelling, fighting ,and swearing at work.
Is this really what I got an MS for from a top university???
Every GC I've worked at has been the same...
Is this really worth it?
At least design engineers/CM who also make very little like us get to work from home, sleep in, etc...
What am I missing here?

2023.05.31 17:31 Mr-Bingleys Base pay decrease with commission. Is this common?

I (M24) am three years out of undergrad and am currently working in a salaried sales role at a small mom and pop type company. I have been with the company for a year, and I was told that after approximately 6-9 months of starting, I would be transitioned into a commissioned role with a reduced base salary. However, the amount my salary will be reduced, and the percentage of commission have yet to be disclosed to me.
My currently salary is barely towing the line of a living wage in my large east coast city. I make approximately $33k after tax annually.
I am coming up on a performance review where I expect I will be transitioned into a commissioned role. Im wondering how common it is to have your base pay decreased once you begin to earn commission, especially given my low starting salary.
I know all commissioned sales roles are compensated differently, but Im wondering if any of you have a general ballpark percentage of commission that is common/standard for a sales role? I really don’t know what to expect.
