~ 1. Introduction ~
Here is a detailed description of my wishlist for a Mario Kart 9 or 10/X (if Tour is considered the 9th installment) I don't expect everyone to like all my ideas. This is just a wishlist. I obviously would be happy with any Mario Kart Nintendo decides to put out but in a perfect world, this is what I would want for it to be the best Mario Kart imo. I hope you enjoy.

*¹ - All and All Mirror options are only available in Grand Prix. After a Circuit has been selected, It'll play each Cup in order of that specific Circuit.
*² - All race and battle modes will feature either a Solo Dash or the new Double Dash option similar to Mario Kart Double Dash for extra replayability and character combinations.
*³ - Even if not many people liked Automatic drifting, it was there for a reason for you to choose. Some liked it. Some didn't. It should be the player's choice.
*⁴ - Camera can also be changed freely during the race from the pause menu.

*¹ - Added a Pro difficulty to make the CPU feel more of a challenge.
*² - Wanted to split the vehicle selections between Solo Dash and Double Dash drivers. Solo Dash drivers will now only select between Karts and Bikes and Double Dash drivers will only select between ATVs and new Buggy vehicles. *Buggys are essential similar to the designs of the Karts used in Mario Kart Double Dash. ATVs are now bigger in size to help fit the idea of 2 drivers on one vehicle.
*³ - The original Super Mario Kart had 5 courses per Cup so I brought that option back for custom races.
*⁴ - Wanted to make the option available for players. These courses will be excluded from Laps option and be set to default when selected: ⁿ⁶⁴ Wario Stadium, ⁿ⁶⁴ Rainbow Road, ᵍᶜⁿ Baby Park, ᵍᶜⁿ Wario Colosseum, ³ᵈˢ Wuhu Loop, ³ᵈˢ Maka Wuhu, ³ᵈˢ Rainbow Road, ʷⁱⁱ ᵘ Mount Wario, and ʷⁱⁱ ᵘ Big Blue.

Item Box - Gives the player a random item. Items given are based on the player's distance from first place. * I would like for them to look either similar to how they looked in Mario Kart 64 or Mario Kart DS' design.
Coin - Gives the player a small boost and increase top speed when more are collected, up to a maximum of ten.
Rupee - The equivalent of a coin, used for Hyrule Circuit and Zelda related courses. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.
Bell - The equivalent of a coin, used for Animal Crossing. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.
Cash - The equivalent of a coin, used for Splatoon related courses. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.
Balloon ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - The equivalent of an Item Box, used for Diddy Kong Racing related course. Source

Coin Block ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * floats above player for a short time (10 seconds). Hop to collect upto 10 coins. Can only be obtained if player has 0 coins. Replacing the Coin Box item from Mario Kart Tour. Example
~ Returning Items
Banana Peel - When a kart hits a Banana Peel, it spins out. You can carry one behind your kart to protect yourself from a single attack. Can be thrown backward and forward.
Green Shell - Travels in a straight line and knocks over a kart it hits.
Red Shell - Red Shell Homes in on the closest kart in front of the player and knocks it over.
Feather - Causes the player to spin and leap in the air, providing a small speed boost upon landing, akin to a regular trick (characters will also perform a trick animation during the jump).
Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with a small speed boost.
Super Star - Provides the player invincibility from all terrain and items, and also giving a speed boost.
Boo - Unleashes Boo, who turns the player invisible for a brief time, making them impervious to enemy attacks, and steals an opponent's item. Cannot steal Special Items.
Coinˣ - Grants the player two extra coins and a micro boost.
Lightningˣ - Causes all opponents to drop their items, shrink, and drive slowly for a short time.
Fake Item - Looks just like an item box, but when you run into it, it knocks you over.
Bob-omb - Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking over any kart in its blast radius.
Blooper - Sprays ink on all racers ahead and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed.
Bullet Billˣ - Transforms the player into a Bullet Bill, rocketing through the track with auto-pilot, and providing invincibility from all terrain and items.
Spiny Shellˣ - Targets the racer in first place, knocking over all other karts in its path.
Super Horn - Emits a radial shockwave hitting racers, as well as destroying all obstacles, including the Spiny Shell.
~ Special Items
Fireball (Red) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Mario, Fire Mario
Fireball (Green) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Luigi, Fire Luigi
Fire Flower - Allows the player to throw fireballs for a short time that cause other karts to spin out on impact. Drivers: Metal Mario, Fire Peach, Fire Bro
Ice Flower - Three balls of ice will revolve around your kart. Throw them all at once and they'll freeze any kart they hit, causing them to slide. Drivers: Ice Bro, Ice Mario, Penguin Luigi
Heart - This protective Heart revolves around your kart for a set amount of time, shielding you from attacks. Any item that hits the player becomes theirs to use. A cute and handy item. Drivers: Peach, Daisy, Villager, Wendy, Mametchi
Yoshi's Egg - This egg rolls down the road and home in on opponents. When they hit and break, they'll drop three more items. Drivers: Yoshi
Birdo's Egg - Homes in on the kart in front of you and crashes once it hits. Three more items will fly out when it breaks. Drivers: Birdo
Chain Chomp - This fearsome beast chases karts with reckless abandon, pulling the player behind it at breakneck speeds. Drivers: Baby Mario, Baby Luigi
Triple Mushrooms - Orbits the player's kart, providing them with three separate speed boosts. Drivers: Toad, Toadette
Golden Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with continuous speed boosts for a short time. Drivers: Captain Toad
Mega Mushroom - The driver grows bigger, which allows them to squash other racers by running over them, making them lose their items and slow down for a moment. Drivers: Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Wiggler
Poison Mushroom - A stationary item. Looks like a regular mushroom but If one is run into, the victim shrinks, as if hit by a Lightning. Shrunken racers who run into it revert to normal size. Drivers: Kamek * ngl, i didn't really know who to give this item to
Mushroom Cannon - A cannon designed to resemble a Mushroom. Continually shoots out Mushrooms in front of your kart for a set time. Drivers: Monty Mole, Peachette, Toadsworth
Triple Green Shells - Three green shells that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Koopa Troopa, Dry Bones, Lakitu, Koopa (Freerunning)
Triple Red Shells - Three red shells that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Paratroopa, Dry Bones, Lakitu, Koopa (Freerunning)
Bowser's Shell - An awe-inspiring giant shell! As it careens down the road, slamming and ramming into karts, it's the very image of Bowser himself. Drivers: Bowser, Bowser Jr., Dry Bowser
Triple Bananas - Three bananas that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Donkey Kong Jr., Dixie Kong
Giant Banana - Not only does this big banana spin out karts that hit it, but after being struck it breaks into three regular-sized Bananas. Drivers: Donkey Kong
Banana Barrels - Arm your kart with two fully-loaded barrels of Bananas! Continually shoots out Bananas in front of or behind your kart for a set time. Drivers: Diddy Kong, Funky Kong
Thunder Cloud - A thundercloud hovers over the recipient and strikes it with lightning after 10 seconds. The user shrinks to a very small size for 10 seconds, driving more slowly. Before this happens, the user has higher speed and acceleration while not losing speed when driving off-road, and may pass the cloud to an opponent by bumping into them. Drivers: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde * If there was absolutely no choice but to have the next Meta character, it'd be the Ghosts. Having one of the worst possible specials in the game should balance them out.
POW Block - The POW Block appears above the karts as a 2D image, warning players of its arrival, and causes any racer on the ground ahead of the user to spin out and drop their items. * Since wheelies are no longer a thing, it always spins out other racers unless they're in anti-gravity mode or during an in air trick Drivers: Mii, Don-chan
Super Leaf- Gives the player's kart a tail that can be used to deflect items, knock over opponents and collect coins. The tail will disappear after a moment or if the player is hurt. Drivers: Tanooki Mario
Lucky Seven - Surrounds the player with seven items that rotates around its kart. The player receives a Mushroom, Banana, Green Shell, Red Shell, Blooper, Bob-omb, and a Star. Drivers: King Boo, Pauline, Poochy, Nabbit, Chargin' Chuck, Pianta, Noki
Boomerang Flower - Can be thrown up to three times, hitting racers forward/backward and when it returns to its user after the first and second use. Driver: Boomerang Bro, Larry
Piranha Plant - Automatically chomps on obstacles and other racers, giving a short speed boost for each bite. Drivers: Petey Piranha
Double Bob-ombs - Two Bob-ombs will revolve around your kart. Throw them both at once. Drivers: Wario, Waluigi, Roy
Bob-omb Cannon - Continually shoots out Bob-ombs in front of your kart for a set time. Drivers: Shy Guy
Giga Bob-omb - After being thrown, it will explode after hitting a kart or bouncing 3 times. It has a larger blast radius than a standard Bob-omb. Drivers: King Bob-omb
Bubble - Briefly envelops your kart and protects you from damage for a set time. While in the bubble, you will get a speed boost and float in the air. Drivers: Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Lemmy
Dash Ring - Tosses out three rings in front of you along the track. Pass through them for a speed boost! Drivers: Rosalina, Luma, Ludwig, Honey Queen
Hammer - Throws multiple Hammers in an arc aimed at karts in front of yours. Drivers: Hammer Bro
Super Bell - A bell rings above the driver, knocking away nearby karts and items. The bell rings three consecutive times. Drivers: Cat Peach, Cat Toad
Capsule - Three colorful capsules surround your kart. They'll bounce at opponents when thrown. Drivers: Dr. Mario
Splat Bomb ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking and spraying ink on any kart in its blast radius and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed. Drivers: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy

Nayru's Love ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * will surround the racer's kart with a protective shield. Any items that hit this shield will be reflected back at the racer who used them. Copy Ability ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * steals Special item from any racer. If no racer has a special item on them, it'll randomly generate a random racer's Special Item. Drivers: Kirby

Thunder Cloud Tag ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾* - Similar to Shine Thief but reverse. Think of it as Tag. A random player has a Thunder Cloud and must tag others to lose it from above their head. If the player holds the Thunder Cloud when the timer reaches zero, this process repeats until one player remains.

I Tell You A Mystery
Welcome here folks. It becomes a little too obvious to me on what is going to happen. It is not if, it is when. Let's reveal the thinking on why I say this. It all goes back to the Mystery on the 2022, mid-summer daydream run up. We are living in strange times. You don't need me to tell you that. From the surface of it, it appears as if we are going to hell in a handbasket, it is almost as if we are about to fall off a cliff, however, that hasn't happened, at least not yet. I get it, though at times, it may seem that I don't. The things we have experienced holding this stock are not normal, but neither are the times.
In the long term, Leronlimab shall become the CCR5 blockade of choice, the Gold Standard. That shall happen. It will be written into the medical journals and text books as the monoclonal antibody which cured humanity of HIV and shall become the standard of care in NASH and metastatic malignant tumors. Many of us here already know that this shall happen. So, I wanted to know more about Leronlimab and in order to explore LL, you need to know the company CytoDyn behind it and so I put together this page to help me understand them.
Both myself and a buddy of mine who you also may know, u/psasoffice do come together on occasion to lay down the dirt on that what it is. Today then becomes another instance of yesterday's conversation. I say this to say that in much of what follows, I am the messenger. The bike messenger who picks up the package, reads it while I peddle along, and then deliver it to you soon after the discussion. And let me tell you, u/psasoffice puts together the pieces, a puzzle master where no plot or twist is beyond his x-ray vision. As a matter of fact, He has been behind much of what I've written for over the past 6 months now; it might have been since October or even September of last year, when he sent me something which peaked my interest indicating that he liked what I was putting down, and then, with his perspectives and insights, it just kept expounding. You can see what I've written here , but somewhere around this post , I began talking with u/psasoffice and many of the articles thereafter have his influence.
There were many indications or hopes set that the hold will lift by a certain date. That didn't happen. It has been my notion, (not necessarily u/psasoffice's notion, but it may be), that when we see that Peace and Safety become raised of concern, then it shall be then when the hold lifts. Well, next week, America may default on its debt so then, the markets could quiver. That could lead to unrest. What I've said is that when there is rampant havoc & distress all around, and the masses screaming for Peace and Safety, so it is then when things shall begin for CytoDyn. I said it before and I'll say it again, that when this time arrives, we best remain still, stalwart, confident and quiet. We have seen the signs of where we are headed, and know, we have arrived, we are there. We have taken the exit off the highway and are nearing our destination. Therefore, when the strong winds blow, take a strong, solid and stout stance and know, that this moment was just one of the reasons why you bought your shares. This Initiating Juncture and the events which follow the triggering event of lifting the hold are not that far off, but rather, they are right around the corner. Actually, we have reached the destination, so get out of your car, take a breather and stretch. Shut your engines off. We are there. We did it. We've reached that point. Patience is a virtue. I sincerely appreciate all of you on this difficult journey together.
We have been living the same day again and again, like its Ground Hog Day over and over. All of us have been under the impression that all has been done. That all has been submitted. We understand that no more than 30 days should pass from the day the last submittal was sent before a Result is issued. However, we have the same lack of result day after day. Such a grueling process, what does all of this mean? It means that we have gone through the required process for so long and have paid a huge price, but despite becoming emaciated and haggard, we have finally arrived. Our heads were forced under water by manipulative hands for so long, fighting us against our wills to survive. Finding ourselves running out of air, we finally break free from the over whelming strength of that grip and take that needed breath. Those still here after so long shall find the answer they seek since their desire for this answer is as much as their desire for that breath of air. A Breath of fresh air is well worth the wait when forced underwater indefinitely, outside of your personal control.
Just 2 weeks ago, Cyrus took a leave of absence due to illness. Cytomight sensed he had something going on, but he probably was trying to stick it out, but in the end, he had to leave and now requires time to recover. Lets hope that when he recovers and is able to return, that the Result is already in by then. We already know that the Result shall be a positive one. Lets hope that on the day which he returns, that the NDAs, partnerships & collaborations which are all contingent on the hold being lifted have all or some, been already signed and activated, thereby allowing Cyrus to return as CEO. Wait! How can these agreements be signed if Cyrus lies in bed? Oh yeah, I remember now, we do in fact have an interim President Antonio Migliarese who is already versed in the signing these official agreements. What a Team Cyrus has put together. I love the profound wisdom of this strategic team and proud to own a part of it.
We recently got some awesome news in the way of CytoDyn's newly hired CMO, Dr. Melissa Palmer, who is nothing but a NASH specialist and long time expert in the field of Hepatology. Also, CytoDyn hired Dr. Salah Kivlighn, who has a rare blend of science and business acumen and has 15 years tenure at Merck & Co. What does that tell you? NASH is CytoDyn's #1 indication. Management at CytoDyn has been communicating that NASH is #1 on the docket for clinical trials since the time that Cyrus came on board, because it was his team which established NASH as having the highest revenue potential. Cyrus has been telling shareholders that NASH is to be CytoDyn's own, that is, without partnership, but this is becoming increasingly more difficult to adjudicate.
If CytoDyn does in fact have a clinical trial for NASH in design and development and in the running, then the Mystery of which I speak is, how does CytoDyn pull this off?
Lets look at some of the details. A Phase 2 clinical trial for NASH would be pretty expensive ($35-50 million) and large, (150 to 200 patients) and it could take 12-18 months before we see any results. In the 12/7/22 R&D Update, Management stated that they had hoped to initiate it by 3q 2023 and to be fully enrolled by end of 2023.

  • 1:31: 40: So in terms of what potential time lines can look like, I think it's really important to highlight that from a value-creation standpoint, and I've mentioned this before, we truly do need to generate a large robust and what I call unequivocal data set that will leave no questions left on the table, right? And that a strategic partner would find attractive and attractive enough to do a real value-accretive deal with the company.
  • 1:32:14: And so we've gone through and knocked out what the potential time lines are across each of the different areas that we presented on today. And we're -- as I mentioned before, NASH & Oncology are our priorities. However, because this is all going to be funding dependent, we're going to focus on NASH initially and work with co-development partners to the extent that we can to develop in oncology.
  • 1:32: 44: So what do we expect in 2023? So our largest priority is the removal of the clinical hold in HIV. This is essentially a gating step for us to be able to get back to normal operations as a company and do what biotech companies do, which is advanced therapeutics and try to bring them to market.
  • 1:33:10: Following the lift of the clinical hold, we expect financing to fund operations and to achieve this value inflection point that I've just alluded to. We intend on initiating a new NASH trial. We would like to commit to an investment in and advance longer-acting CCR5 molecules, as this is potentially the future of at least certainly HIV therapy, as Dr. Sacha presented.
  • 1:33:35: We continue to contribute in medical meetings and peer-reviewed publications. Again, the CD02 trial data is in process for that right now. We're going to continue to reshape our team and our capabilities in order to meet our goals. And at some point following the achievement of earlier metrics listed on the slide, we're starting a corporate rebranding as well.
Now back to what I was saying about the large and expensive clinical trial for NASH. What about the problem of recruiting the patients? There is huge demand for these patients. There is a lot of competition here. NASH patients are like gold to enroll as so many Pharmaceuticals compete for those patents for their own NASH trials. How does a small Biotech, pre-revenue company with only $5 million in available funds pull this off? Not only paying for the trial, but how can it show itself as having the clout required to round up those patients in a rapid way? My feeling is a partneCRO needs to be involved somehow.
First off, we know for sure, that the NASH clinical trial will not be entered into until the hold lifts. Once the hold lifts, we can expect near immediate revelation of how this will be accomplished. But, we can speculate as to how this will get done. u/psasoffice suggests that if we follow the money, we can find our answer. But you might ask, What money? We don’t have any. So then, what if we follow the share price?
Remember back to mid-summer 2022, when Cyrus was hired as President, share price was low and even fell following his hiring, but soon thereafter, in late July through August of 2022, the share price rapidly rose to $1.26 per share and then progressively diminished once again over the course of ensuing 6-9 months to where it is today.
Lets take a look at this so we can get to the secrets which will be revealed, where we can open the doors of the collaborations. You may ask, How did we get someone to accept a collaboration? When were the collaborations accepted? Along with Mazen Noureddin and Jonah Sacha, Cyrus presented the R&D Update Investor Deck on 12/7/22 and he was able to say all the things which were said then 6 months in advance and he said them essentially in a DEFA14A SEC filing. The forecasts made in this document and in this presentation were filed with the SEC in an 8-K.
So then, how long before Dec 7 did Cyrus know that the very things which he would plan for the company which he wrote about in the Investor Deck were so very possible to file it with the SEC? Let's say he knew of the strength of his forecast say 1-2 months in advance. Therefore, by mid October he was aware of secret agreements, Cyrus must have known of specific collaborations which would allow those prognostic statements to be made in the Investor Deck, but which were predicated upon the hold being lifted. Therefore, How long did it take Cyrus and collaborators to sit down and make the agreements of NDA? Again, another 1-2 months? So by August, 2022?
Now you can see why the share price inexplicably rose in July / August, 2022. A Collaboration on a NASH clinical trial occurred which also explains the result of these words spoken on 6/30/22 Conference Call by Scott Kelly after his trip to EASL in London: "37:10 Scott Kelly: OK, so we certainly acknowledge being more metered and conservative in our publicity. We will be announcing important presentations and studies on a going forward basis. Regarding the NASH, about how NASH attracted partnerships*, we just presented the PDFF and cT1 and biomarker data at* EASL in London*, just to shed some color on the importance of the EASL meeting, there were over* 7,000 delegates present or online from 114 countries*. There were* 1,722 abstracts presented*. There were only* 4 poster presentations selected for a walking tour with the chairman at EASL. And We were one of those 4*. I was present and I can tell you, it was* well received by the scientific community*. We* can not comment on potential partnerships. But there are multiple opportunities for NASH and NASH HIV."
What also happened in August? Only the removal of the first management player who’s experience was in Negotiation and Partnerships, Brendan P. Rae. No longer any necessity for Negotiation? I guess not. As time went quickly by, without any word of what was taking place, the share price began to fall. It became uncomfortably obvious that by mid November, Recknor had been let go. He was CytoDyn's most experienced scientific, medical and managerial player for NASH, but in the game of a collaboration, anyone and everyone is a commodity and all are replaceable. On the same topic, a significant stock bonus was paid to the president in September of last year after only two months on the job. Was a deal struck? Also, our very own CMO, Scott Kelly who coined the phrase: “There are many ways to structure a partnership.“ himself gets terminated in December 2022. A CMO possessing far more experience in the #1 indication than he could ever have was already being eyed and prepared to take that role for the biggest proving ground party that will show that Leronlimab eradicates steatosis and fibrosis in NASH and NAFLD. Welcome Dr. Palmer.
Once the NASH deal was struck in July/August, it wasn't long before the share price began to rise but just as quickly, it fell as well. Rumors of a partnership must have gotten out, the price ran way up, but then later, in late August, down it went. The stock price dropped because there were no announcements by either party backing the deal. That’s due to the fact that it is contingent on the hold lifting and that it could be a year out before this collaboration moves forward. The collaboration was put on hold along with the clinical hold. It was not revealed outright and therefore, shareholders were not aware of it, but it still exists and therefore CytoDyn remains confident. It is not a traditional partnership, but rather a non traditional one which we may use to answer the questions of how can the NASH trial be funded and how can CytoDyn have the utter confidence to put together such a timeline for proceeding in such a large scale Phase 2 trial in NASH without possessing the necessary funds itself.
How then can we define a Non traditional partnership? CytoDyn will not get a large upfront payment. Instead, CytoDyn continues on its own, however, all the CRO work shall be done by our collaborator. What’s is in it for the collaborator? They run the NASH trial because they believe Leronlimab helps their drug get over the finish line. But Cyrus was saying NASH would be Leronlimab monotherapy and wouldn't be combination therapy. CytoDyn just can't go it alone, it is too small, and a hard luck story company which has failed in its history thus far at every turn. For NASH, u/psasoffice is thinking GSK, while I'm leaning towards Merck.
All of us know that Leronlimab could do it alone in NASH, but that’s not how the Pharma game is played. CytoDyn needs help, and it has 4 different plays, and each play is devoid of a deep enough data pool which would bring in funding for that indication. Cyrus' long term goal is to build out a strong enough clinical trial data pool to present it to a partner or a buyer. So then, without any cash of our own, Cyrus' plan is to have someone else's funding, partner with CytoDyn and build for us that data pool and in the end, have exactly those same partners compete for the entirety of it, for the whole or part once that data pool is firmly in our grasp.
The same story goes for HIV-Prep and HIV-Cure which is probably being run by the 3rd party Research and Development Bio-Tech company Vir, in collaboration to develop the long acting or a more longer acting molecule of CCR5 blockade. Vir is pretty much a given with Scott Hansen's strong connections there. This was kept secret, but somewhat hinted at by Cyrus in the 4/11/23 Webcast .
We can apply the same logic in the Oncology study being run by MD Anderson using Merck's Keytruda in combination with Leronlimab. We had all been waiting to find out what had happened with the results of the MD Anderson study, and Cyrus threw us this line: "Leronlimab is currently being trialed in combination with Keytruda (pembrolizumab) in a breast cancer xenograft model in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center." From here, he gave us a hint of what is to come.
It can be assumed that as these collaborations are announced, there shall be share price inflection. In his astute fashion, Cyrus has given us the secrets, but, because of these strange times, the share price has not yet moved. But what it has done is it has held us here, because we are above the times. And we may be seeing a default on the debt in the coming week as well, but remember to remain strong.
CytoDyn knows its has a problem. Therefore, while our collaborators are running these trials for us, CytoDyn itself, remains detached as we pursue other similar non traditional collaborations. The perishable, flesh and blood CytoDyn uses the strategy of its intellect and the power of its IP to become the imperishable CytoDynasty. As Leronlimab has many, many, many indications, so shall CytoDyn have many, many, many collaborations. This is the direction until Merck goes up against GSK who bids against TAK , (thank you Jake!!), for the likes of little CytoDyn who at that point, possesses the grand data pool which Cyrus coveted which was freely obtained in only a few short years of time well spent.
Oh Black Hole, do yourself a favor and swallow and regurgitate everything you just read. Where then shall you find your victoryzzy? I see you stabbing yourself and choking on your own stinger of death. Cyrus spelled it out for you dumb ass. Watch it happen before your blind eyes and you still will deny it even occurred. Oh, I hear it at the door knocking. But you are both deaf and blind. Why are you here? Only to be robbed and the longer and deeper you choose to remain here, the worse it will be for you. However, it is easily avoidable. Cut the short position and go long.

People settle. I obviously can't say that about everyone, some people don't, and I like to believe that most people are doing the best that they can. But I think most people live life half-heartedly. Just going through the motions. Reading through the "script", saying their lines, until the curtain draws. It's no wonder that society is so miserable (ie: depression, anxiety, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, mass murder, etc.)
The thing is, at the end of the day, to live this way is a choice. It's true that the information is scarce, nobody is taught to respect life from a young age. School doesn't teach it. Parents don't teach it because they don't know it. Society doesn't teach it. The mental health field doesn't teach it. Religion most certainly doesn't teach it. It's almost entirely absent from all domains: secular and religious, public and private. That means a young human being must go in search of it.
I suppose, in part, that's healthy. If there were no search involved, it wouldn't be authentic. Every single one of us must make peace with life on our own, there's no getting around it, unless you decide not to make peace with it at all (and die by suicide, whether the overt one or the more common slow 'rot til you die' approach). On the other hand, though, it's reflective of the fact that our society is so fearful. This is why I cannot take the whole mental health / therapy / psychology field seriously: none of them talk about the simple fact that we are all facing an existential crisis - a crisis about what it means to be alive. The problem is not mental, it's spiritual, and it's about our views on life and how we relate to the world. The society would rather live in ignorance and pretend these questions don't exist rather than confront them. Because to confront them can be very terrifying. The truth about life is not comfortable.
In short, the information is scarce. But even so, it is still a choice to to live this way at the end of the day. There's the old proverb (I have no idea from where) that says "when the student is ready, the master appears". That's because, at the end of the day the biggest block isn't the scarcity of the information, it's our own resistance to the truth. Once you are ready to open your eyes, surely you'll start finding things that resonate. And that's the thing: the external information only serves as confirmation for what you already knew to be true inside of you. I think we all know these deeper truths on some level, that's why people will go to war and kill and die for their beliefs - it's the ultimate form of "compensating" for something, something which they know to be false.
It's odd to me, because there seems to be a sort of war on truth. The new New Age belief seems to be that there is no objective truth at all, which makes no sense, because in that case they wouldn't even be able to make case for that point. We all know deep down that some things are more true than others. I'm a fan of humility, and I'm fine with admitting that "all I know is I know nothing". But that doesn't mean I'm going to eat my cereal with poison instead of milk tomorrow morning.
It's no wonder, then, that "rationalists" or whatever you want to call them hate the whole New Age think. I don't consider myself New Age. I don't consider myself anything, really, but I understand that there's some overlap with what I talk about and spirituality. I'm OK with that. What "rationalists" miss, however, is the mystery of the whole thing. It cannot be entirely understood (even if I know enough to know I would rather eat my cereal with milk - I still cannot explain to you why I like my favorite cereal).
People settle.
The truth is, as far as I have been able to see, that your life is up to you. Certainly some people have it worse than others, and I'm not disputing that. It's not my business to go to some starving kid in a third world country and say "Hey bud your life is up to you". That's ridiculous. On the other hand, however, any of us who are fortunate enough to be on a website like this most likely have the tools to be able to do something cool with their life. And I always cite the example of Viktor Frankl, a Jewish psychologist who was imprisoned in a Nazi labor camp. He said that he was free to choose his attitude despite that horrific situation, and if he can do it in those circumstances, I'm not sure that any of us have an excuse, either. (Not to say he was jumping for joy in a concentration camp, but he did choose to hold out hope, and he survived. I was criticized for talking about this once on Facebook - I soon learned this was not the best platform for my writing.)
If you've read any of my stuff, you know I like to mix more broader-based truths, as I see them, with more personal details. I think it helps illustrate my points, and I also like talking about it. It's part of my whole "enjoyment of life" thing.
I recently wrote a post about how "the material is good", speaking about my music but also my message. Today's post will be similar. Yesterday I got together with my band to talk about our new repertoire going forward. I write the vast majority of music though I do appreciate the contributions they make and also don't consider them replaceable. Anyway, we met at my house and I showed them 10-12 songs that I like for our band going forward: some quite old (10-15 years), some intermediate (3-5 years), and some recent (from 1 week to 1 year ago). They liked 9 of them and the other 3 were a maybe.
Like I said, I've had some of these songs for 10-15 years. Some of them I've had the privilege of playing live, but only a couple of times, but the vast majority no. I remember when I was 22 years old it was my dream to make a living with this music... I really feel like I had a message there. One year later, in AA, I would share in a meeting and flagellate myself by saying that "me and my best bud had a message, what it was, I don't know" - and everybody laughed (this was one thing that drove me away from AA, despite me remaining sober for 9.5 years as of writing: the self-condemnation). But that was wrong. I, we (my best friend and I) did have a message. I just didn't know exactly what it was.
Now I know, as much as I can put it into words, I suppose. Life sucked for me. Yeah, I was materially well-off, just like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. But like them, particularly like Dylan, I found no joy in life. No meaning. I did not feel accepted. Girls did not seem to like me. I can relate deeply to Dylan in that sense. My life sucked - money was not enough for me. But rock and roll, man, that made me feel alive. I could share my emotions, I could play and sing and dance, I could get my aggression out, and hey... girls took notice of me. I had never seen girls pay attention to me like after they did when I got up on stage. It was wild.
I would never say I did it or do it only for girls. I had one guy tell me that one time, and hey, at least he was honest. But that wasn't my case. Still, it was a nice side benefit. I think they were attracted to the same thing I was: that feeling of being alive.
Me and my best bud used to say "rock is life", half-jokingly, but actually in a serious sense, too. I think I coined this term, but I can't be sure, and in fairness we discovered what rock and roll meant together. He was the Eric to my Dylan. Luckily we didn't blow anybody's brains out. Anyway, if I recall correctly, it was because I wanted that feeling of rock, being up on stage, to apply to my entire life. Not just being on stage. All of my life was my stage. Thus, "rock is life". And I very distinctly remember part of it being unapologetic.
Just a quick note, for those who don't know me, that I don't glorify Harris and Klebold. The only reason I'm talking about them at all is because I've recently been doing a dive into the Columbine shooting because I'm fascinated by what could drive two kids to do something that horrific. The most interesting part, to me, is that Dylan and Eric weren't all that different from me and my friends. In fact, I think they actually had some valid grievances about life and about society (though not valid enough to justify what they did). I believe what I am doing is rooted in something similar to what they felt, but my conclusion about the course of action is the exact opposite: not the destruction of life, but rather, the celebration. In all of its facets - including the ugly.
In AA they called it "living life on life's terms". That's what I learned to do. At 22 years old, in the midst of my rock and roll dream, I had to get sober. I hit a guy on a bike in a drunk driving "accident" that was obviously my fault. Thank God he was okay, and I didn't run or anything, I made sure he was OK and I got arrested after confessing. Soon after I got sober, and I've been sober ever since. I'm very grateful to that - but I had to give up on my rock and roll dream.
Or that's what I thought, at least. I had no idea that 10 years later I'd be given the opportunity to play these songs again, for audiences that enjoy and appreciate my music. And why? Why me? Firstly, it's a gift. A gift from "God", if you will, or from life (I don't actually believe in a deity). I'm good at making music. It comes naturally to me. Where I come into is that I never gave up on myself or my music. Well, I sort of did at the beginning of sobriety, but even that was a great example of not giving up on myself. Deep down I think I knew that more important than the songs was the message behind them - I mean, in the way I choose to live my life. So while I was perhaps wrong to think that my music was not important, I never gave up on myself, and eventually that lead me to rediscovering my music a few years later. And here we are now.
I've fought for it. Getting into a band was sort of by chance, but configuring things in such a way that made sense has been a fight. We had a drummer who didn't like to play original music, only covers. We argued, and eventually he made the decision to leave without getting sacked. I told him I understood and we parted with a hug, no hard feelings. We had a bass player, a great guy and still my friend, who is a true musician and gets paid to play in cover bands and stuff. He always viewed our project as secondary. We had to cut him, too. And then there was a keyboardist who didn't fit our groove. We cut him, too.
In a way, it was all my brainchild. The rhythm guitarist is perhaps my best friend here overseas (by the way, 1 year into sobriety I moved overseas to help find myself). I told him to pick up a bass. The new drummer was on the same page as he and I in terms of the music we wanted to make. I proposed we do a power trio. And that's what we did. And people here are loving it.
If you look at the accomplishments themselves, they're not actually that impressive. Just a few local shows and one small show outside of town. But there's something about the reception we're getting. It's not only positive, like, "hey, I liked your band". People genuinely seem to be enjoying our music and giving praise that goes beyond what is expected in order to be nice / friendly. It's an amazing feeling, and confirmation of what I think I knew to be true 10 years ago: my music is good, and life is worth it. I think the fact that I've continued fighting for 10 years just makes the message even stronger - I never gave up, even through the bad times.
All of this is to say that I never imagined I would be here today. Maybe this sounds like an Oscar award speech or something, which is ridiculous given the "minimal" achievements my band and I have had. But to me they're not minimal. Again, it's not necessarily about the material success, but rather the spiritual success of knowing that I took a stand somewhere and contributed something valuable to the world. And had a lot of fun along the way, too. That's worth more than gold (and who doesn't love gold?)
I couldn't write a whole post about my life without mentioning the girl I like right now. Man, I'm very attracted to her, and I "love" her, whatever that means. Maybe it's ridiculous since I hardly know her, but I think about her a lot, and I'd like to get to know her more. If you're reading this, no, it's not the girl I met on Reddit, though I am fond of that girl, too, and wouldn't mind hearing from her again. But yeah, the girl in real life is great.
It's weird. As much as I'd like to get her in bed or whatever (it'd be fun), it's almost like I just want to be discovered or something. I feel there's a lot going on with me, and I'm eager to share it with the world. I think it's valuable. Of course, she is dealing with her own issues, so it's best to go slow. I'm OK with being patient, she's worth it. (I wouldn't mind getting to know her, either.)
I think what I never understood with love was that it's just a plus, not the main event. People say this all the time, but it's difficult to digest when you're lonely. It's true though. You have to make your own life the main event. IMO that doesn't mean "create a great social life, go to clubs, go to the gym" and all these other material milestones that people create. Nah. For me, it's a more spiritual question. What do you want your life to be about? Figure that out then embark on the journey. Love is a wonderful stop on that journey. No movie or story would be complete without it, right? Well, life wouldn't be, either.
Anyway, all of this is to say that life is worth it. It's a lot of bullshit sometimes. The day-to-day can be grueling, even if you're lucky like me and have a job that you somewhat enjoy. And then you've got to clean the house, pay taxes, deal with people's dysfunction (including your own)... it's hard! But it's like I said earlier, life is what you make of it. That's my whole message. It's really extremely simple. Simple, but not easy, I guess. But I guess I just decided that I was going to give it a try (more than once, actually), and I'm really, really glad I did.

I live in a suburb surrounded by forest. My house is in a row of other properties built next to a tree line. The neighborhood was always quiet. The sounds of crickets, birds, and sight of black bears were routine on most summer days.
The scenic area was something I was always grateful for. I lived completely alone since the death of my parents. An accidental fire took both of their lives. Once I collected my inheritance, I relocated to a much more peaceful region. I had always fantasized about moving there.
I tried to start a relationship with Samantha. I had gone to High School with her sixteen years before. She had gone on to become a respected Detective. My attempt at something long lasting with her failed. She was too career oriented. I was reeling from grief. Focusing on building something meaningful with her was a pipe dream.
Things around my community changed once the Murphy family went missing.
The first sign that something was off on that Wednesday was how their blinds had closed. Their silver Chevy Chrysler remained parked in the driveway.
A tennis instructor at the country club noticed the wife of that house did not show up for the program. He called their number to make sure everything was alright. When no one responded, he notified the authorities. Rumors abounded immediately among the home owners association about an alleged affair. The gossip only furthered when the married couple and their three kids were not found in the abode.
I watched from my balcony as the patrolmen roped the place off with caution tape. The domicile was a three story building with brick chimney’s and a few peaked roofs in the style of English towers. They were beige, light blue and crimson.
On the morning of the Murphy’s desertion of society, the architecture became a hollow image. It was one that was once filled with activity and life.
The law did what they could. Any success they may have had in the investigation was secret. A few months passed by and they removed the caution tape.
I followed the on-line police logs. The weather was pristine and clear the day they vanished. The fact that there were no witnesses to what direction they may have gone disturbed me.
I had heard how the man, Frank Murphy, had a bit of a temper and always had a bourbon in hand. I had heard mutual friends describe him as an alcoholic in denial of his servitude to liquor. He was an indignant individual who knew no true repercussions for his behavior. He always had bail money from a software company he founded and sold a long time ago.
I was never close to that family, but I peered out at their vacant house far more than I ever had. I was in need of an answer. What could have happened?

I called Samantha one evening as I sat on my bed, wondering how she would respond to my reaching out. We were never argumentative or on bad terms. I still worried about her reaction, and hoped it would not be a dismissive one.
I heard her say hello. Her voice still impressed me. I had almost forgotten how silky her tone was. I knew it could change to a much firmer pitch when she was interviewing a suspect.
“Hi, Sam. I’d like to know if you’d be free tomorrow for a cup of coffee. We can go to that place, The Bean Field, off Pond road. It’s been a while and I know you have a lot to tell me about what’s new in your life.”
There was a pause on the other end, and for a second a bout of anxiety hit me. I judged my own words as robotic, stilted, and sure to push her away. I reasoned she was summoning an excuse to get out of having to interact with me. How dare I presume she would even entertain the notion of having a meeting.
“That sounds great,” she said. “Tomorrow is my day off, luckily for you. I’m in the middle of an incident right now. It’s a five car pile-up about forty minutes from where you live. I’ve gotta run. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
When she hung up, I was triumphant. I looked at our old text conversations. I realized we had not been in communication with each other for over twelve months. Now was my opportunity to reconcile that gap of unintended avoidance. I knew it would be an undeserved opportunity.

I sat outside of the cafe the next morning at a black metal table. I had a view of rolling hills dotted with trees. A highway with multitudinous shrubberies sat on either side of it. I sipped a piccolo latte while waiting for her.
When she arrived and stepped out of her hatchback in the parking lot, her appearance floored me. She had not dressed up for our supposed date, but that did not make a difference. She had arrived from the gym and wore shorts and a top set. She donned a gray and green hoodie.
She sat across from me and reached for the menu.
“Can you go to the front and order me avocado toast?” Samantha asked. “I’ll also take a mocha with a few shots of espresso. Please.”
I did exactly that. When I returned with her items, she apologized for consuming her meal in less than two minutes.
“I hadn’t eaten since five PM yesterday,” she said between sips.
“I understand,” I said. “I doubt you ever have a consistent schedule anymore.”
“You’re right, but that’s why I have to enjoy my free time when I can.”
We settled into talking about what had happened since we last saw each other. I referenced my trying to learn another language (French) with the hopes of moving to Europe or Canada.
After fifteen minutes of small talk, I asked her about work, but I did so with caution. It started with me wondering about what the call she was on when we were on the phone was about.
“A drunk driver blew a stop sign and hit two other vehicles,” she said. “It was ugly. A few people died. We’ll see if the man in silk pajamas gives him the proper sentence or a traffic citation.”
“You know, I’m curious about what happened to the Murphy’s, if they’re hurt or not.”
“You and everyone else,” she said. “We’ve been getting so many witness accounts, and so far they’ve all been bogus. All I know is what I saw when I got there.”
“I didn’t know you were one of the responders,” I said.
“Yeah. Something about the place was off from the moment I walked in. I found heavy items in placed they should not have been in. The toolbox was not in the garage but on the second story. A disassembled snowblower lay scattered everywhere in pieces. The oven door was on their bed. Frank Murphy was not the strongest guy in the world, either. For him to cause the kind of property damage I saw doesn’t make a lot of sense. At the risk of sounding crazy, inexplicable things happened when I was there.”
“Like what?”
“I was under the impression that something was playing a trick on me. Electrical outlets sparked a few times out of nowhere. The ceiling fan would go from still to spinning when I looked up at it. Books would fall off of the shelves. A volume on black magic, of all things, almost hit the top of my head when I walked on by. Another book about fairies collapsed with it.”
“So the home intruder set up a bunch of weird diversions,” I said. “I’ve heard of that before. These killers or kidnappers want the victims to think there was more than one of them. It’s so their account’s disputed in court.”
I’ll tell you right now,” she said, “we didn’t find any outside DNA.”
“So it’s a case of family annihilation,” I said as I took a long swig of my beverage. “I don’t know if you can substantiate the facts, but a few people have said that Emily had a big life insurance policy. Frank knew about. He may have been using steroids and having an affair, and that could have contributed to-“
It occurred to me that she eyed me with suspicion, as though I was digging too deep. I could also tell she regretted letting information about the forensic results slip.
She stood up and stared at me with a flash of anger in her eyes.
“I thought you wanted to piece something back together with me,” she said. “I didn’t know you wanted to play armchair investigator like every true crime fan. You know, your parents were kind. I wish you’d follow their example. I’ll let you get the bill.”
She walked back to her vehicle and I knew it would be a while before we conversed again.
Later that night, I stared out my window at the Murphy home. I saw a star shoot across the sky, and it almost seemed ready to plummet into the side of their house.

I was attempting to get in some movement to get my mind off of the events of the day before. Negativity and self-deprecation were all-consuming. I felt the need for a long saunter to try and release some of the meandering and pessimistic energy I accrued.
When I saw the carmine ribbon along the dark soil, a sense of worry filled me. I was not that far removed from a cul-de-sac with palatial manors a block away. There was no way I could speculate on me being the first to see it.
Could it be a hint where they are? I thought.
The notion seemed absurd, a reach.
I had read in the local newspaper that there was an uptick in bobcat sightings due to recent wildfires. The animals relocated during prior summers. I reasoned it could have been a house pet which became a victim after it got snatched away into the overgrowth.
I followed it, and the uneven road of red stretched on past many bushes and over logs. A shrill chirping in the background became louder. I moved between two conifers with petrified wood and found myself in a part of the forest I had never been in.
There were so many branches that it blacked out the falling sun. Ahead of me was a clearing. A swarm of gnats and mosquitos descended upon it. The sea of insects soared together in chaotic unison as a wave among the sedges and lichen.
I looked towards the right of the meadow and saw a ramshackle tree house. I trailed the red line towards it. I peered in through one of the windows and saw a statue of a woman with wings. I knew she was not an angel. There was no halo, nor were her organs of flight feathery, but rather they were thin and bat-like.
I entered the place knowing the danger I was putting myself in. I had tracked mud in and was oblivious to the incriminating actions I partook in. I was trespassing and risking stumbling into whoever may have owned the land. My curiosity got the better of me and caused me to keep moving forward.
The room was sparse but decorated. The walls had carvings of men and women, also with wings. Their bodies held yogic-like positions as they reached out to one another mid-air.
A piece of parchment with a few words sat in the corner. I picked it up and read it:
‘Humans are the greatest living beings to play tricks on. Especially when they go through a time of drought and extreme cold.’
I sat it down where I found it, unsure of what to make of it.
I touched the central figure’s neck. The chiseling was not only cold, but below freezing, as though I had submerged my hand in a polar pool.
The noise of some kind of bird attempting to escape a confined space reverberated below me.
Something brushed against my leg. I looked down and saw an army of glow bugs float up between the cracks, and they circled around me. They were like dragon flies. At the time I had labeled them as such, but in reality their shapes were far too humanoid.
I walked back home. I went to bed and slept. I was still perturbed at the wine-colored avenue and cabin.
I awoke in the middle of the night after something tapped at my walls from the outside. I peered out and saw the Murphy home, and observed how the blinds over their casements were wide open. A hive of mites filled every inch of the interior.

I found the decomposing body of a chipmunk stuffed into the tailpipe of my vehicle the next day.
This horrified me, because the deliberation of the act was too evident to ignore. While I did have a surveillance camera on my porch, the coverage of my vehicle was non-existent. I calmed myself down by thinking it was likely a tempestuous child. I retrieved a pair of medical gloves and disposed of the creature before going on with the errand. The rotting body had a horrible smell. It was like an onion left out in humidity for days, and my stomach turned as I sealed it off in the garbage with the lid.
The next morning, I looked in my closet. Some of my favorite shirts had disintegrated. Holes and patches of destroyed fabric littered them. I found it odd, and even searched on-line for possible answers before I decided it had to be a moth infestation. I sprayed lavender. Information on a website statEd that was a cure-all, but the problem persisted. It bothered me that I had not seen a single aphid, but I pushed that concern away.
A few days afterward, when I had tossed my disheveled pieces of attire, the power in my house went out. This was not such an unusual occurrence during the heavy winter months. For it to occur in the summer was strange.
It was a rolling blackout. Once my house had electricity again, I noticed how someone moved items around.
Something turned my kitchen table on its side and stuffed into a part of the kitchen I would have never placed it in.
I grabbed a butcher knife and did a sweep of the premises, and I did not find anything. There were no footprints or signs of anything else tampered with. When I got to the second story, birds nested along the tree tops, and the repugnant odor of fish attacked me.
My allergies became insufferable over the next month. Nothing purchased over the counter which helped it.

I went to the beach on an overcast day. After roughly half a mile of walking, I saw an illustration someone had drawn in the sand with a stick. It was of a being with airfoils.
A light precipitation had fallen earlier. As I trailed along the former part of the sand, a glint in the corner of my eye caught my attention. I looked out at the water and saw what appeared to be a light blue outline of wings beneath the surface.
A phosphorescent wall of creatures surrounded me.
As the days march on, I know I am stalked by something I cannot rebel against, let alone have any agency or autonomy over. My pillowcases have shredded, the pipes in my basement have burst, and someone left me a gift at my front door. When I opened it, I saw mice scurry away. It was a book, and it was one about the history of fairies.
I picked it up and had to blow the dust off of it. Someone had stolen it from a musty subterranean chamber and brought it here.
I theorized that it was Samantha, passive aggressive with her disappointment in me. Yet I flip through its pages and find it all too familiar. I cannot help but wonder if this is a sign of something far more dangerous.

I did exactly that. When I returned with her items, she apologized for consuming her meal in less than two minutes.
“I hadn’t eaten since five PM yesterday,” she said between sips.
“I understand,” I said. “I doubt you ever have a consistent schedule anymore.”
“You’re right, but that’s why I have to enjoy my free time when I can.”
We settled into talking about what had happened since we last saw each other. I referenced my trying to learn another language (French) with the hopes of moving to Europe or Canada.
After fifteen minutes of small talk, I asked her about work, but I did so with caution. It started with me wondering about what the call she was on when we were on the phone was about.
“A drunk driver blew a stop sign and hit two other vehicles,” she said. “It was ugly. A few people died. We’ll see if the man in silk pajamas gives him the proper sentence or a traffic citation.”
“You know, I’m curious about what happened to the Murphy’s, if they’re hurt or not.”
“You and everyone else,” she said. “We’ve been getting so many witness accounts, and so far they’ve all been bogus. All I know is what I saw when I got there.”
“I didn’t know you were one of the responders,” I said.
“Yeah. Something about the place was off from the moment I walked in. I found heavy items in placed they should not have been in. The toolbox was not in the garage but on the second story. A disassembled snowblower lay scattered everywhere in pieces. The oven door was on their bed. Frank Murphy was not the strongest guy in the world, either. For him to cause the kind of property damage I saw doesn’t make a lot of sense. At the risk of sounding crazy, inexplicable things happened when I was there.”
“Like what?”
“I was under the impression that something was playing a trick on me. Electrical outlets sparked a few times out of nowhere. The ceiling fan would go from still to spinning when I looked up at it. Books would fall off of the shelves. A volume on black magic, of all things, almost hit the top of my head when I walked on by. Another book about fairies collapsed with it.”
“So the home intruder set up a bunch of weird diversions,” I said. “I’ve heard of that before. These killers or kidnappers want the victims to think there was more than one of them. It’s so their account’s disputed in court.”
I’ll tell you right now,” she said, “we didn’t find any outside DNA.”
“So it’s a case of family annihilation,” I said as I took a long swig of my beverage. “I don’t know if you can substantiate the facts, but a few people have said that Emily had a big life insurance policy. Frank knew about. He may have been using steroids and having an affair, and that could have contributed to-“
It occurred to me that she eyed me with suspicion, as though I was digging too deep. I could also tell she regretted letting information about the forensic results slip.
She stood up and stared at me with a flash of anger in her eyes.
“I thought you wanted to piece something back together with me,” she said. “I didn’t know you wanted to play armchair investigator like every true crime fan. You know, your parents were kind. I wish you’d follow their example. I’ll let you get the bill.”
She walked back to her vehicle and I knew it would be a while before we conversed again.
Later that night, I stared out my window at the Murphy home. I saw a star shoot across the sky, and it almost seemed ready to plummet into the side of their house.

The next evening, I took a walk around the suburb. I spotted a thin line of dried red fluid along a path which led into the woods.
I was attempting to get in some movement to get my mind off of the events of the day before. Negativity and self-deprecation were all-consuming. I felt the need for a long saunter to try and release some of the meandering and pessimistic energy I accrued.
When I saw the carmine ribbon along the dark soil, a sense of worry filled me. I was not that far removed from a cul-de-sac with palatial manors a block away. There was no way I could speculate on me being the first to see it.
Could it be a hint where they are? I thought.
The notion seemed absurd, a reach.
I had read in the local newspaper that there was an uptick in bobcat sightings due to recent wildfires. The animals relocated during prior summers. I reasoned it could have been a house pet which became a victim after it got snatched away into the overgrowth.
I followed it, and the uneven road of red stretched on past many bushes and over logs. A shrill chirping in the background became louder. I moved between two conifers with petrified wood and found myself in a part of the forest I had never been in.
There were so many branches that it blacked out the falling sun. Ahead of me was a clearing. A swarm of gnats and mosquitos descended upon it. The sea of insects soared together in chaotic unison as a wave among the sedges and lichen.
I looked towards the right of the meadow and saw a ramshackle tree house. I trailed the red line towards it. I peered in through one of the windows and saw a statue of a woman with wings. I knew she was not an angel. There was no halo, nor were her organs of flight feathery, but rather they were thin and bat-like.
I entered the place knowing the danger I was putting myself in. I had tracked mud in and was oblivious to the incriminating actions I partook in. I was trespassing and risking stumbling into whoever may have owned the land. My curiosity got the better of me and caused me to keep moving forward.
The room was sparse but decorated. The walls had carvings of men and women, also with wings. Their bodies held yogic-like positions as they reached out to one another mid-air.
A piece of parchment with a few words sat in the corner. I picked it up and read it:
‘Humans are the greatest living beings to play tricks on. Especially when they go through a time of drought and extreme cold.’
I sat it down where I found it, unsure of what to make of it.
I touched the central figure’s neck. The chiseling was not only cold, but below freezing, as though I had submerged my hand in a polar pool.
The noise of some kind of bird attempting to escape a confined space reverberated below me.
Something brushed against my leg. I looked down and saw an army of glow bugs float up between the cracks, and they circled around me. They were like dragon flies. At the time I had labeled them as such, but in reality their shapes were far too humanoid.
I walked back home. I went to bed and slept. I was still perturbed at the wine-colored avenue and cabin.
I awoke in the middle of the night after something tapped at my walls from the outside. I peered out and saw the Murphy home, and observed how the blinds over their casements were wide open. A hive of mites filled every inch of the interior.

I found the decomposing body of a chipmunk stuffed into the tailpipe of my vehicle the next day.
This horrified me, because the deliberation of the act was too evident to ignore. While I did have a surveillance camera on my porch, the coverage of my vehicle was non-existent. I calmed myself down by thinking it was likely a tempestuous child. I retrieved a pair of medical gloves and disposed of the creature before going on with the errand. The rotting body had a horrible smell. It was like an onion left out in humidity for days, and my stomach turned as I sealed it off in the garbage with the lid.
The next morning, I looked in my closet. Some of my favorite shirts had disintegrated. Holes and patches of destroyed fabric littered them. I found it odd, and even searched on-line for possible answers before I decided it had to be a moth infestation. I sprayed lavender. Information on a website statEd that was a cure-all, but the problem persisted. It bothered me that I had not seen a single aphid, but I pushed that concern away.
A few days afterward, when I had tossed my disheveled pieces of attire, the power in my house went out. This was not such an unusual occurrence during the heavy winter months. For it to occur in the summer was strange.
It was a rolling blackout. Once my house had electricity again, I noticed how someone moved items around.
Something turned my kitchen table on its side and stuffed into a part of the kitchen I would have never placed it in.
I grabbed a butcher knife and did a sweep of the premises, and I did not find anything. There were no footprints or signs of anything else tampered with. When I got to the second story, birds nested along the tree tops, and the repugnant odor of fish attacked me.
My allergies became insufferable over the next month. Nothing purchased over the counter which helped it.

I went to the beach on an overcast day. After roughly half a mile of walking, I saw an illustration someone had drawn in the sand with a stick. It was of a being with airfoils.
A light precipitation had fallen earlier. As I trailed along the former part of the sand, a glint in the corner of my eye caught my attention. I looked out at the water and saw what appeared to be a light blue outline of wings beneath the surface.
A phosphorescent wall of creatures surrounded me.
As the days march on, I know I am stalked by something I cannot rebel against, let alone have any agency or autonomy over. My pillowcases have shredded, the pipes in my basement have burst, and someone left me a gift at my front door. When I opened it, I saw mice scurry away. It was a book, and it was one about the history of fairies.
I picked it up and had to blow the dust off of it. Someone had stolen it from a musty subterranean chamber and brought it here.
I theorized that it was Samantha, passive aggressive with her disappointment in me. Yet I flip through its pages and find it all too familiar. I cannot help but wonder if this is a sign of something far more dangerous.

Cette ancienne joueuse de haut-niveau est, depuis mars, à la tête de l'Ittihad Riadi Fkih Ben Salah (IRFBS), qui évolue en quatrième division marocaine
Sur le modeste terrain de Fkih Ben Salah (centre du pays), Hasna Doumi, toute vêtue de noir, casquette vissée sur la tête et son sifflet jamais loin, semble avoir pris ses marques.
Elle donne le "la" à ses joueurs, très attentifs et appliqués, dans une ambiance bon enfant.
"C'est un honneur d'être la première entraîneure d'une équipe masculine au Maroc, une fierté aussi pour mes parents qui m'ont toujours soutenue", assure-t-elle à l'AFP.
A travers cette consécration dans une société aux moeurs conservatrices, elle souhaite faire passer un message aux responsables du football: "il faut faire confiance aux femmes, car nous avons des entraîneures très compétentes", plaide celle qui enseigne aussi l'éducation physique.

La preuve, à son arrivée il y a trois mois, le club était 13e et menacé de relégation.
Et quand on lui a proposé le job, "il y avait une grande appréhension de ma part, l'équipe était au fond du classement. Une vraie bombe à retardement", raconte la jeune femme.
Hasna Doumi prend les choses en main et son équipe engrange sept victoires et deux nuls, soit 23 points, "un record dans le championnat amateur", se réjouit le directeur technique du club, Abderrahim El Khadimi, soulagé qu'elle ait "remis le navire à flot".
L'Ittihad a terminé la saison en milieu de tableau.
Du côté des joueurs, le soulagement est partagé.
"Elle est arrivée à un moment critique, on a travaillé main dans la main et on a surmonté les difficultés", explique le capitaine Abdelhadi Bennane, en concédant que la nomination de Hasna Doumi a été "une surprise".
"Elle a une forte personnalité. Elle est à l'écoute et finalement le fait qu'elle soit une femme a changé beaucoup de regards", admet le joueur de 28 ans. Même si de son point de vue, "qu'elle soit une femme ou un homme ne fait pas une grande différence".
Malgré sa jeunesse, "coach Hasna" a déjà une belle carrière derrière elle. En tant qu'entraîneure, elle a officié à la tête d'équipes locales féminines ou de jeunes avant d'encadrer, mais comme adjointe seulement une section masculine de l'Olympique Fkih Ben Salah, autre club local.
Et comme joueuse, elle a intégré dès 2009 l'élite du championnat féminin.

Relents misogynes

"Le foot est un amour que je cultive depuis ma tendre enfance", dit-elle.
Après avoir réalisé son "rêve" de le pratiquer, elle a choisi "le coaching pour rester proche des terrains".
Ses modèles ? L'Espagnol Pep Guardiola, entraîneur de Manchester City qui vient de remporter le Championnat d'Angleterre et qui va disputer la finale de la Ligue des champions, le Franco-Marocain Walid Regragui, qui a mené le Maroc en demi-finale du Mondial-2022, mais aussi Lamia Boumehdi, l'entraîneure marocaine de l'équipe féminine du club congolais du TP Mazembe.
Une passion minée toutefois par des relents de misogynie.
"La seule difficulté pour moi est le regard de la société. Le foot, c'est pour les hommes, disent-ils", déplore la coach.
"Dans la vraie vie, personne n'ose me critiquer, c'est plutôt sur les réseaux sociaux, derrière des écrans, qu'ils se lâchent et m'insultent", opine-t-elle.
Hasna Doumi estime néanmoins que "les lignes bougent" dans l'euphorie suscitée par l'épopée historique des Lions de l'Atlas lors de la Coupe du monde au Qatar.

Demographics: International (South Africa), mixed (Indian and African, though I'm not 100% about this since my background is kind of unknown). Small Private , All Boys, Religious School. Sends 1-2 people to an Ivy every other year. One of the best in the country. Finished high school December 2021.
Intended Majors: Math, Finance, Business, CS, I don't really know which one I want to pick yet. SAT/ACT: 1540 (770RW, 770 Math) did it this year as an adult. Retaking on the 6th for 800 in Math.
Class rank: 12/170 (there was only 2% difference between me and the guy who was number 1 btw)
GPA: Finished with 92% for my leaving exams, but I started highschool very poorly. I have ADHD so I struggled a lot with that. I got diagnosed half way through Tenth grade and was given medication for it. After this my marks went up to 90%+ and stayed there. We don't use a GPA system here and all my marks up until twelfth were from internal assessments, only my 12th grade marks were done through some sort of board. Of the subjects available I took the hardest ones. My grades were as follows.
8th Grade: 59%
9th Grade: 70%
10th Grade: 82% (first half 60%, second half 90%, was diagnosed and medicated halfway)
11th Grade: 95%
12th Grade: 92% (Government officiated leaving exams)
Awards: Olympiad finalist (top 100 out of 100k), Olympiad semi finalist 4x. Won't specify which one as I don't want to dox myself, but its one, if not the, biggest Olympiads in the country. Also got some school awards like top student in x subject and stuff like that.
ECs:
After highschool:
Started my own business. Helps medical clinics with IT stuff. I live off the income from this. Taught myself all the knowledge required for this.
Tutor, I tutor kids in A-level Physics and Math. Also tutor some Engineering students in Math (I taught myself their syllabus). This is also paid.
Worked with refugees through a non-profit. Organised food, shelter, rehabilitation, etc... Nothing super impressive but I'm going to tie this into one of my essays really nicely.
TikTok account. 2 mill views in about 6 months. Posts study tips and stuff like that.
Gym. 1100lb total. Also train 4 people who pay. Helped them loose a cumulative 100kg. Started final year of highschool.
During highschool: Cofounded my schools investment society. 100 members out of school of 700
Math club - did quite well in olympiads. Was run by a teacher so no leadership positions anyway.
Head of the History society. Organized stuff and invited speakers.
Head of academics. Was responsible for helping people in my house (school was split up into houses like hogwarts about 100 in my house) with their academic tasks. Mainly just tutored, posted exam timetables, and connected people with tutors for subjects I didn't do.
School sport. My school requires everyone to do a sport. I did rugby and track. Was shit but it did take 6 hours per week.
Also babysat my brother and other kids (paid) for like an hour and half everyday after school.
Schools: Stanford REA, ivies, uchicago, Liberal arts colleges like williams and Swathmore, idk much about them but my friend said they're pretty cool.
Note: I applied last year to Harvard, Yale and Princeton. All RD. I did it on a whim and really regret it as I was rejected from them all. The application I sent was fucking awful. I assumed the US application process was similar to the UKs where the only really care about stuff relevant to what you intend to study and so I left out basically everything except for my olympiad wins and some coding courses I had done (most of the ECs on here weren't on my application 💀). The application I will submit the 2nd time around will make me look like an entirely different person. Also how will it look for me to apply at my old age (I'll be 21 when I actually start college)? I didn't know what I wanted to do after school, so I decided to work until I figured that out, worried if that has fucked me over. I'm also really worried about my GPA. I've been given conflicting advice. Some people say an upward trend looks good, others say its bad that I started off so poorly. I do have a medical excuse and my doctor could give a note if necessary.
Edit: I forgot to mention this, but my Uncle and Aunt are both professors at Stanford. We're not close at all, but my father is very close with them.

Before starting to tell you what happened and how I got into this situation, I'd like to introduce myself a little bit. I'm 29 years old and live in Switzerland, where I work as a cop. Basically it’s like 911, someone calls, then dispatch sends us for all kind of interventions. Sometimes, things you see in that job changes your perspectives of what’s « normal ». You meet all kind of people and sometimes weird places too. But in general, my country is safe and I almost never carry my gun home, unless I go training at the shooting range.
Also, and because it’s linked to my story, I love music and driving cars. It helps me clear my mind and makes me feel good. Some time ago, I met a club of car-enthusiasts and from time to time we meet and do little road trips across the country.
I’m also very chill and calm person and I always try to find a peaceful solution to anything, especially at work. I try to always see good in people and prefer talking to them.
Ok here starts my story:
Last year (2022), I went on a road trip with a nice guy I met through the car club. Let’s call him Robert to keep anonymity. That trip was really cool and we drove almost all night (Felt like playing NFS), which was great because the lights of cities look beautiful at that time and I’m more of a night owl. After that trip, we said we’ll stay in touch to make another trip some day.
Weeks passed when suddenly I got a message on whatsapp. « Hi, it’s been a while! How are you? Still up for a little trip? Tell me when you’re free. ». When I saw the message, I directly checked my schedule and found a free day. I sent him back : « Hey! Yeah sure! I’m free on … . Let me know if it works for you too. ». He answers : « Ok, works for me too, where do you want to hike? ». Then I was confused. Why is he talking about hiking? I checked again the message and noticed it was written by another Robert (2) from my contacts. Not only did I mistaken the dudes by their names but also because their profile pictures on whatsapp looked alike.
The guy that contacted me was an old acquaintance I met through some of my friends when I did some dj-set parties. It was a few years ago and we were both passionated by the same music. Then from time to time we bumped through each other at concerts. So I had just planned a day with this guy I mistaken for someone else. I felt bad and didn’t want to cancel because although It wasn’t the person I thought, that guy was nice too and It’s been a while since I went for a hike in the woods or the mountains. So I was like « Yeah, why the hell not. ». Then, we started planing the hike. I didn’t want something too challenging, so I made a proposition. I knew a nice hike that goes through the woods and mountains, the views are beautiful and you get to meet hikers here and there. Also, the path has multiple campfire spots, where you can grill some sausages. Robert (2) agreed and asked me if it’s ok for me to take him at the train station and we’ll leave my car at the parking next to woods.
The day of the hike, I arrived at the train station where Robert (2) was waiting for me. I looked through the place and couldn’t find him. Then He waved at me. Here, I got my first red flag. The guy I knew and saw on his profile picture looked different. It was Robert (2) but he looked sloppy, he grew long hair and had a beard. I charged up his bag in my trunk and we moved. During the ride, I noticed that Robert (2) smelled bad. It’s the kind of odor I smell on the job when I’m confronted with homeless people or drug addicts. But I noticed he came well equiped for the hike which means he wasn’t in a no money situation. So I decided to not judge him because of his body odor and to ignore it. Besides, we’ll be in the woods so outside I wouldn’t notice that.
We stopped at a shop near the woods to get some firestarters and that’s when Robert asked me If I was up to change the hike because he knew another location close to the one I have chosen and that had some nice spots for pictures (we both carried good cameras). I’m good with a map and I checked it on my special app. The hike was the same length as mine but it went near a river which I found really nice. « Ok, let’s go check that ».
Finally, we parked my car and arrived at the forest. I saw some old barnes there and little fields for cows. Our little trip started. During the hike, I was questioning Robert on his life to catch up time. I already knew he was a smart guy who did engineering school but I learned he moved out from our city and found some job at a construction company where he does all kind of calculs to build stuff. Then the more I learned about his life, the more I felt something was odd.
Robert started telling me he has a girlfriend but they are going through some hard times and he thought she might leave him soon. Then he continued saying that he missed some days at work because he felt depressed and because he wasn’t sure it pleased him anymore. He said he might get fired. I was trying to cheer him up and keep him focused on good stuff and advised him to consult if necessary. He asked me about my job and how I react with dangerous people and stuff like that. I wasn’t reassured by all this conversation but I always get all kind of questions from people so I can’t tell I was shocked. Also, during the walk he sometimes looked a bit off, like a robot.
At some point, near the river, we found what looked like ruins from an old mild (around 1920-1880 I’d say so). It was a cool spot and I took a pic or two. But we didn’t see any people on our path and the sky got cloudy and it started to rain a bit. Luckily, I was well equipped, I carried everything you need in this kind of places : water, food, fire starters, first aid and a knife. We kept moving until we found a campfire spot with a wooden table. We decided to stay there and eat.
I asked Robert to get some wood while I’ll set up the table and look for little branches to maintain the fire. Robert puts his bag on the table and starts to show me tools he got with him. He grabs a big hand saw, puts it on the table, then he takes out two knives one of them was a really big one (Switzerland’s law is permissive regarding knives in my opinion). I was surprised to see this kind of knife because it’s a 3 hours hike and we’re not staying there for the night, nor hunting something. So I decided to pull out the knife out of the knife-holster I had attached on my belt to go get the branches. Robert looked at me and then he said something in a surprised tone that froze me to the bones. « Oh, you took a knife too. »
Immediately, my mind started racing. « Too? What does this mean? Why wasn’t I supposed to get a knife when we planned to go into the woods and make a camp fire ». Robert suddenly leaves to get what I asked him and I got an uneasy feeling. It’s like my whole body was in alert mode, saying me something is going on. I’m used to be around dangerous people at the job but it’s different when you’re working fully equipped (bulletproof vest, gun, paper spray,…) and you’re with your partner and the situation I was in right now. I mean, we were alone in the woods and we didn’t see anyone on the path.
From that moment, I decided to keep both my eyes on Robert and keep him in sight all the time, especially his hands. That’s what you learn at the police academy. People always use their hands to do harm. Moreover, I decided to keep a minimum distance in case he tries to do something.
A few minutes later, Robert comes back, puts all the branches he grabbed from trees, his knife still in his hand. He looks straight at me and just stands there. Suddenly, he said : « I’m sorry… ». His tone felt empty of emotions. Immediately I got up and looked at him. I was sure he was going to run at me and try something bad. I got a rush of adrenaline. Then he started to mumble something, I could barely understand : « We’re both here in the woods… alone… we got knives… I’m sorry… ». What does he mean? Why does he act that weird? Then Robert continues « Let’s hug. ».
My body gave me even more alerts. Why does he want to get close to me, while he is holding a knife in his hand? Is he trying to do something bad? Why would I hug him out of nowhere?
Then my mind told me I’ve got to get out of this situation quickly but without making him suspicious. I wanted to leave this place and go home. I finally replied, like nothing happened : « No worries man, let’s make that fire, eat something so we can get home before going completely wet. ». But I didn’t want to get close to Robert. I asked him to get more branches because the ones he got me were wet. I took the rain as my opportunity. After he came back I told him the firestarters didn’t work well in the rain and it might be a better option to pack our stuff and head back to the parking. He first looked sceptical and disappointed but agreed.
We packed everything and left the place. I didn’t want to talk to him on our way back but I didn’t want him to notice something was odd so I just kept talking like nothing happened. From that moment, his tone changed a bit, seemed colder to me. I kept him in my sight. After all we were still alone in the woods. He kept being very negative towards life and people. It made me think he maybe was suicidal in some way. I was happy I did not carried my gun that day because I was afraid he might try to do something because of that.
Once we got back to the parking where I finally saw people, he asked me if I could give him a ride. I refused arguing I just got an urgent call from someone and needed to leave.
After all that, I kept asking myself, was he trying to do something? Was he just afraid by the situation? Maybe it was odd for him, even though we knew each other and even partied together. Was he planing something? I mean we were alone, in a place he knew better than me and he was a really smart guy.
All I can tell you, is that I blocked him after that and decided to contact our common friend. I knew he was close to Robert so I explained him the whole situation. My friend told me that Robert was going through some depression and was feeling bad lately. I told him that I can’t do anything legally to help him without his consent but I advised my friend to call him and make him see someone. A few weeks after my friend had a discussion with Robert and apparently Robert was open to see someone about his problems.
Thank you for reading my story. Let me know what you think about all this. I’m still confused to this day. I might be making my mind up but I saw many people with similar reactions to Robert and I’m not reassured about this.

Lee Kang-in is not the first to be controversial about racism against Asian players in Mallorca.
Prior to Lee Kang-in, Japanese striker Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad), who played for Mallorca, also suffered controversy over racial discrimination.
While controversy over racial discrimination continues in European football, on the 22nd, Real Madrid's Brazilian player Vinicius was a victim of racism by being called "monkey" during an away game against Valencia.
After the game, Vinicius was angry with his social network service (SNS), saying, "This is not the first, second, or third time. Racism has become commonplace in La Liga."

I am 33 year old man, have been with my wife since we were 21, married one year ago. I love her to bits, I consider her a diamond in the rough. We tend to argue about money a bit, but other than that the only thing we ever argue about is her family.
We have no kids but were hoping to try this year.
My wife is the oldest (33) of three children, she has a younger sister (31) and a younger brother (27).
Her parents are still together.
I have always found them difficult people, they work for themselves and so have rarely had to get on with anyone else. They have differing views to me on lots of things, the FiL loves football (British football) and I hate it with a passion, he likes cars and I'm not interested in them. We don't have much common ground and find it hard to have a connection. I have in my past done my past to talk about interesting things, I'm interested in history and I believe that relationships and conversations should be mutually beneficial, if he wants to talk at me about cars then I should be able to talk at him about history. He once told me "I'm not interested in history" so stop talking about it. Since then I get on with him as much as I need to but we don't have a relationship. He thinks he's a genius and everyone else is an idiot, talks down to me a lot despite me having had decent careers and qualifications and being relatively useful and intelligent. I get it, nobody is good enough for his daughter.
the MiL I have always found very difficult, she has no job, never has had a proper one, no hobbies except drinking, she has no passions, no interests. The MiL had a difficult childhood (so did I with regards to my parents divorce). I've always known she's a bit odd but I really am starting to wonder if she's showing signs of genuine behavioural disorders or personality dysfunction.
She has this vindictive, malicious personality, she has a chip on her shoulder that she's not very intelligent and mentions it often. She feels the need to get one over on people around her, on waiters and restaurants etc. Often steals glasses from restaurants. She brags if she managed to get discount (like a proper Karen).
The worst behaviour though that I've spotted is (this is why I'm here and I find it difficult to explain properly) that she almost likes to wind people up for her entertainment. She likes to see her son angry and frustrated, she really likes to set people's chimp off. She loves to try and annoy me, she knows I don't like it, I'd rather just be left alone but for some reason I don't act the way she likes or react, or interact with her the way she likes, I don't play her game of idle chit chat well enough. So she tries to provoke me and has this shit eating grin when she does it. NOBODY ELSE sees it, and I think I'm going fucking insane but I KNOW I'm not wrong. When I point it out my wife says I am wrong, she says "you always think you're right". I've been told I'm gaslighting her but I'm wonder if that's what someone who gaslights someone would say to throw you off.
I honestly go round and round with this and I don't know what to say. I will have to say something to the Mil, I'm hoping I can identify some sort of personality trait or disorder or something and highlight that and say "you are a narcissist" but I don't know if that's the correct personality type. I don't want to just throw words round, I want to be correct.
yesterday. we were at a food festival. I hadn't really spoken to the mil because I was talking to other people that I went there to see. She OBVIOUSLY took offence to this and started trying to piss me off asking the same inane questions she normally does. I come from a different country and she will interrogate me like 'does your country have air, and sunshine" trying to make me feel foreign or alien. so I answered her, but obviously not emphatically enough. So she gave a cup of ice to her 5yo grand son and said "throw that in throwaway_2021b's drink. He's 5 he's obviously just going to throw lumps of ice wildly. she KNEW what she was doing, I asked her why she did that and she said "he's only playing" with that shit eating grin.

She's a psycho of some sort, there's a million other examples but I won't rant any further. Just any help at all would be appreciated.

These last few parts have taken a lot longer for me to write than I thought. A lot of shit has gone down in the last two months, and a lot of it, frankly, is kind of a blur. But I figure, if you've stuck with me this long, then you deserve to know how it all ended up so I'm going to try my best to remember every detail of what happened.
Me? I've spent every free hour I've had, just lying in bed. I've got a lot of healed wounds that still hurt me pretty damned badly.
Blood loss from multiple gunshot wounds and then drowning in the East River, dying and then being brought back while still human, incidentally, takes a lot out of a guy.
But… I'm getting way ahead of myself.
Where were we, again?
Oh yeah, that's right. The funeral without caskets, inside of a Ukrainian restaurant just off the boardwalk in Brighton Beach. That's where I left off at.

Antoni's corpse and I had spoken together for a while longer, about Beccs and their baby, actually, sitting there in the floor in front of the three empty bathroom stalls. The next moment, as usual, he was… just gone.
It took a while to slow the bleeding, and it took even longer to try and clean myself up with just hand soap and paper towels and the water from the sink. Nobody came into the bathroom again, and as I left, I saw why. There was a sign on the door that read 'Out of Order' with something printed below it in Cyrillic that I imagined probably said the same thing as the English.
My new winter coat had been left on the floor in front of the door and the Emergency Exit at the end of the hall had its alarm disabled and had been left propped open with a brick.
I took that as a clear message that they didn't want me rejoining the party, so I exited into the alley and sat on a milk crate chain-smoking until 2 PM when the funeral ended.
The weather app on my phone said it was 10 degrees outside, but oddly enough the cold air felt soothing on my bruised face. My eyes were nearly swollen shut, and every now and again I had to pull some of the toilet paper out that I'd stuffed in my pocket to wipe another trickle of blood from my nose when I sniffed a little too hard and moved the clots loose.
At 1:57, I started to hear people exiting the restaurant, so I moved onto the sidewalk to wait for Becca. The people leaving the funeral only glanced at me for a second and then looked away with a bored expression, like I wasn't even there. Finally, only Becca and Toni's immediate family were still inside.
Tatiana gave Becca a hug, Igor, a gentle handshake, and Antoni Sr. bent down, cupped his hands around Becca's face and pressed a chaste kiss to her forehead. I could see that his right hand was bandaged and he was holding it straighter than his left. Good. I hoped the fucker had broken it when he'd punched me in the jaw.
As Becca exited, I could tell she was angry even before she stomped over to me and shoved me three times in quick succession. Like Jimmy, Becca was a lot stronger than she looked, but now I knew why. I couldn't do much but ball up and take the hits.
"Where the fuck did you go? You just took off and left me there by myself. 'He wouldn't have left without saying goodbye if he had a choice.' You knew, you cocksucker, you knew, you knew he was dead!"
"Yeah, I knew! Antoni was in the news. But we gotta get the fuck out of here, Beccs, you're making a scene, another one, and I gotta get outta this neighborhood before something worse happens to me."
The high color of anger in her cheeks dropped away immediately into a pallid white. She'd been so pissed she'd never once registered the state of my face.
"Jesus Christ, Tony, what the fuck happened to you?"
"Your little Polish sausage's Daddy Dearest just beat the fuck out of me in the men's bathroom, that's what the fuck happened."
"Why would he do that?" Becca asked, but I didn't answer. She looked back to Skovorodka, following my gaze. Antoni Sr. was still standing there, just inside the front door, watching me with narrowed eyes, his hands folded neatly behind his back like a soldier at ease. It reminded me a lot of how Antoni used to stand while we were waiting for the train together.
"Fuck," she muttered, then "Shit," and grabbed me by the arm. "Come on."
"Why would he do that?" She asked me again as we climbed the stairs to the train platform.
"Antoni was Mob, Becca, Bratva. His whole goddamned family is. Him and his brothers and his father and his fucking Russian uncle, and I'd say your Mama Tatiana probably isn't in the dark about what her brother and her hubby and his sons do to make a living, either. I don't know why the Zabrowskas were on the Avenue, but suffice to say it was probably for nefarious reasons, and Jimmy found out about it and took care of business.
"Only I don't think he realized exactly who he was taking out at the time he did it, or else he never would have put the body in the River for somebody to find. And then the other three showed up to avenge their brother, only two of 'em never made it past Bianchi any farther than Antoni did."
"The fuck are you trying to say?" Her tone says she already understands just fine and doesn't want to.
"I'm saying your dear sweet Mamma killed your boyfriend, Becca. She removed all the identifying marks from his body, ate what she wanted, then pulled all his teeth out and chewed off his hands and his feet. They dumped the body in the East River and they found him about 5 days ago, floating off of Battery Park."
"Oh God. That's why. I asked Tatiana where Antoni was going to be buried and she told me in the public cemetery on Hart Island. They're not claiming the body because they don't wanna go to the cops. For the last week I been cussing him for everything he was worth, and he's been laying in the fucking morgue." She pressed her hand to her mouth, and I saw her bloodshot eyes filling with tears again.
"Please don't cry, Becca, cause I'm gonna start crying again and I've cried enough for today."
She sniffed back her tears and swallowed hard.
"But I don't understand, Tony, what the fuck does that have to do with you?"
"They knew, Beccs, they knew how the Zabrowskas died, who killed them, and they knew I helped Moretti get rid of the bodies afterwards. That's why Antoni's father went after me. The uh… the fucking Pakhan thought Jimmy sent me there to rub it in their faces that they weren't going to be able to bury any of their boys."
"How the fuck would they know that?" She barked at me.
"Somebody's feeding them information and not some asshole on the street, somebody from inside the Camorra."
"Who would do that?"
I saw her eyes darting about wildly as she tried to think of the answer to her own question.
"I don't know, uh, the driver that brought Moretti, he didn't look like he was too fond of Bianchi, maybe he's a fucking option."
"Frankie? I mean, him and Ma have never gotten along. He's never liked her and the feeling's mutual but… that doesn't make any sense, Frankie's always been loyal to the Camorra. Rossi always said he practically muttered the Omerta in his fucking sleep, that he was a soldato down to the bones."
"I have no idea, Becca, but it gets worse," I said quietly. If it didn't hurt so goddamned bad, I would've squeezed my eyes shut.
"How the fuck could it possibly get worse, Tony?"
"First you gotta promise you're not gonna hit me again."
Her hand balled into a fist, and I couldn't help but flinch.
"I'm gonna knock you the fuck out right now if you don't stop wasting my time, Cipriani."
"I sold her out, Becca. Bianchi. I told them where she lives and how to find her tonight."
"You what!?"
"I had to! He was gonna cut my fucking fingers off, and I don't know if he was going to take all four or just three but I wasn't about to fucking find out. I kind of need those fingers seeing as I'm a fucking southpaw!"
I held my left hand out to her, curled my fingers inward, but the third finger just… stayed straight. "Ah, fuck, I didn't even notice that."
"Jesus Christ, the tendon's been cut," she whispered, and when she pressed her hand to her mouth again she looked less like she was swallowing back tears and more like she was trying to swallow back vomit. I couldn't really blame her. I felt pretty nauseous myself.
"You know, I'm, I'm not worried about Ma," she said, finally. "It wouldn't be the first time somebody's tried to take her out. She's harder to kill than they think."
"Would, uh, would cutting her head off work? Cause if so I think they're already pretty aware of how to get the job done. They… they know Bianchi's not human, Becca."
Her face got paler, if that was even possible, and her eyes were the size of saucers.
"This is a goddamn nuclear disaster. Jesus fuck."
We stood the last few minutes waiting for the train in silence. As the doors slid shut and we sat down, Becca began laughing wildly.
"So you're in hysterics for real, huh?" I asked.
"You're gonna have to forgive me, I'm a little slow on the uptake today, but I just got it, Polish sausage… only, he wasn't little, you know, he was hung like a fucking horse, and it's a goddamn tragedy for women everywhere that the man isn't on this earth anymore. And he knew how to use it, too. Best sex I ever had in my life… only sex I ever had in my life, but that's not the fucking point." A short, barking sob tore out of her.
I groaned. "You know, that is way, way more information than I ever wanted to know about you and Antoni's sex life. You couldn't, uh, you couldn't let that one pass by, huh?"
"I never pass up the opportunity to make a good dick joke. And he had Good Dick."
I laughed and regretted it as it tightened muscles in my stomach that were still a little angry about being used as Antoni Sr's personal punching bag.
"Touché, Miss Rebecca, touché."
"The two-faced bastard, I gotta give the motherfucker that much, you know, it's a uniquely personal way to say Fuck You to the Underboss, getting his teenaged daughter pregnant. I am so, so goddamned tired of being a pawn in other people's games. He's lucky he's already dead or I'd kill the bitch myself," she whispered.
"It wasn't a game, Becca, what happened between you and Antoni," I whispered back. I knew because Antoni's corpse had told me as much. "Don't ask me how I know, cause I don't wanna talk about it, but it wasn't a game. You didn't know about him and he didn't know about you and it was a big, fucked up coincidence. You loved him, and he really, truly loved you... he worshiped the ground you walked on." Actually, he had said he worshiped the boots she walked in, but I figured it was a translation issue. "It was a regular old Romeo and Juliet: Brooklyn Edition."
She squeezed her eyes shut, snorted and at the same time choked on another sob.
"Yeah, but Romeo and Juliet ended in a double suicide, not a murder and a single mother." Her tiny hand went to her mouth again, and she wasn't able to hold back the tears this time. "I miss him, Tony, I miss him so fucking much."
"You know, Beccs, I miss him, too." I miss him when he was alive, not looking like a walking nightmare, and talking my goddamned ear off half the time, but I wasn't about to tell her that. "He was the first friend I made down here."
"It's fucking stupid. I still remember every single thing he said to me those first few times I met him."
"Odd as it is, I do too, Beccs. He was that kind of guy, I guess, he didn't have to work hard to make an impression on people. It was, uh, three days after I moved in, I think. I was in the basement, getting ready to do my laundry that morning, fighting with the stuck knob on that machine down at the end? And he walks in with his clothes basket balanced on his hip and reaches past me and just… turned the fucking thing, like it wasn't even stuck to begin with. 'It has an attitude, but it likes me,' he says, and I say, 'I can see that.'
"And he, he told me his name. 'Zabrowska,' he says, 'Antoni.' And I laughed and said, 'Nice to meet you, Toni, I'm Tony.' 'Really?' he says, and I say 'Yeah. Really. Antonio Alessio Gioele Cipriani, the third, if you please.'"
"Goddamn, that name is painfully Italian. No wonder you tell everybody 'Just call me Tony,'" Becca snorted.
"Thank you, Miss Rebecca, I can assure you I didn't pick it myself. But, 'Ah,' Toni says and kind of taps his hand in the center of his chest, 'Junior.' And I laughed again and said 'Our parents were goddamned creative when it came to the baby naming, right?' And he laughed, too, and shook my hand.
"And uh, a few days after that he showed up outside of my apartment and asked me if I wanted to go watch a game with him and his brothers at the sports bar down the street. It was Poland vs Korea. I still don't know shit about soccer, I've always been more of an American football kind of guy, but I did learn quite a few Polish swear words that day. Apparently they'd all bet money on the home team winning that game."
"I bet you did. Poland kept catching red cards that whole game. I bet on Korea, of course, and altogether I won 8 grand from four extremely pissed off Polish dudes when we stomped their ass all over the pitch. I had no idea how seriously the four of them took soccer. Antoni wouldn't even talk to me for three days. Probably didn't help I made an ass of myself laughing at all of them. Course, I woulda bet more if I'd known they were good for it. Dry cleaners, my ass," Becca spat.
"Well, in Antoni's defense, he probably did work at a dry cleaners like he told us, just like you work at a bodega, and Jimmy and me work at a restaurant, and Pops works at a hardware store. We all got day jobs. You know, I hate to bust your balls, Becca, but did it… never occur to you to ask Antoni if the tattoos meant something?"
"No," she said weakly. "I mean, I knew they were prison tats but Jesus Christ, half the people I know have been to prison. You've been to prison, half of my cousins have been to prison, hell, Pops has been to prison. You weren't here then, but all of 2016 to 2020 I was wearing a 'Free Rossi' t-shirt everyday, a lot of people in this neighborhood did. Ma got him off on the Murder 1 charges but numbers are numbers, and she couldn't get him out of the Tax Evasion. But I figured, if Antoni didn't wanna talk about it, then it was none of my business what had happened before we met each other."
She'd minded her own business a little too hard this time.
"What did you and Antoni talk about, Becca?"
"Everything! And anything, and nothing, all at the same time. He'd complain about living with his brothers, about Misiu always leaving hair all over the bathroom, and how Ciech always left sugar all over the kitchen counter after he made his coffee. And I'd complain about having to pick up all the empty bottles of makgeolli after my Dad in the morning. I'd help him wash all the dishes his dirty ass brothers would leave piled in the sink, and fold everybody's clothes.
"We got along well, me and Antoni, we were actually very compatible, we were both neat freaks when it came to our housekeeping. We even folded our towels the same way. And he'd bitch about how Igor could never balance the register correctly at the end of the day, and I'd bitch about how my Dad never checked our invoices correctly, and I was always having to cuss out the distribution reps for shorting us on our deliveries myself.
"And we'd watch TV together. He always made fun of me for the lame ass old Chuck Lorre sitcoms I loved to watch, and I'd make fun of him for all the stupid cop dramas he watched, every Law and Order known to man, and Blue Bloods and shit. We just… talked to each other, like we were two regular people, just living our lives. It was simple and it was easy, and it was enough, it was goddamned enough for me. Our relationship was the one normal thing I had going in my fucked up life."
She cracked at the end, sobbing brokenly. She turned her head to the side, pressed her face into my bicep as she wrapped both arms around mine. Tears filled my eyes, as well, and now I was wiping snot out of my nose as well as blood. I felt goddamned sorry for the kid, and I felt like she had a right to cry, but I had to distract her, for my own sake.
"So tell me, when was the first time you talked to Antoni? Was that the same day he asked you out?"
"No, there was some time between the two. He'd been there about a week, I guess, after they moved in. They got there back in like April. I'd fucked with him the first day, you know, asked him where the hell the accent came from, and he said Poland, and I told him welcome to America cause I felt like being a dick. And he said that he'd already been in country five years and I laughed at him and told him, goddamn, I couldn't tell cause he still sounded like he was fresh off the boat. And he got this look on his face, like he was trying to decide if he needed to be offended or not, so I told him I was just fucking with him, that he was doing better than my Mom, God rest her, cause it was seven years after she got here from Seoul before she even learned a word of English and my Dad was the one that had to teach her."
"Makes sense. I moved in in June, Toni mentioned he'd only been in the building about two months hisself."
She nodded, I could feel the movement in the sleeve of my coat where her cheek was pressed to my arm.
"Him and his brothers started coming in every day after that and you know, I kind of had my eye on him from the first time I talked to him. He was goddamn gorgeous, quite literally the walking definition of 'tall, dark, and handsome.' He had those incredibly blue eyes, and that fucking accent, man, shit put me in knots everytime he came in. I learned them all pretty quick, and Antoni was easy. He got the same thing everyday, box of Newport 100s and a pack of Russian Cream Backwoods with a large slushy. You know I gotta keep the cups behind the counter because motherfuckers'll fill it up and walk out when I get busy. I saw him when he came in, and went over to the ATM, so I had his shit sitting on the counter waiting for him."
Becca had a talent for memorizing all of the regular's orders, it wasn't unusual to see a long line of cigarettes, blunts, medicine, sometimes even crack pipes and Chore Boys, and anything else she kept behind the counter, set up neatly next to the register. She also had a talent for running both registers at the same time when the line got overly long and she was there alone. Sometimes I had no idea how she kept up with it all, but that was just Becca.
"And this drunk asshole came in, right after, he didn't even belong in the neighborhood, he stayed in Bed-Stuy, but he was with his cousin, and his cousin I knew and he was shooting me apologetic looks so I was already on guard. I was in a bad goddamn mood that day, anyway. And the drunk bitch, he walked over to the bathroom and tried to open it."
"Key's behind the counter," I said, and she nodded.
"And the key costs five dollars cause people make a fucking mess in the bathroom and I ain't cleaning that shit everyday for free. Well, drunk fuck got pissed and started talking a bunch of shit and threw his five dollars down on the counter, and you know, I can't stand that. You don't throw money at me, I ain't a goddamned stripper, you can put that shit in my hand or you can get the fuck out my store. And, I said 'Naw, son, for you it's gonna cost ten, five dollar Drunk Dick surcharge for being an asshole and cutting my line.' And the motherfucker… he called me a fucking stupid little bitch, and he told me people like me needed to be sent back to my own country."
I made a sound of disapproval, already seeing where this was headed.
"I hate that stupid shit. Where the fuck am I getting sent back to? The fucking hospital in Manhattan where I was born? Everybody in the store just kind of stopped and stood there, and dude's cousin? He just shook his head at me and walked right out the store and left him there."
"He wasn't gonna get involved, huh?" I asked.
"Fuck no. He wasn't stupid. I… uh, I was seeing red by that point so I balled up his money and I threw it across the store and told him to get the fuck out. I don't even remember half the shit I said to him, but I was yelling and he was yelling back and all of a sudden Antoni was… just there. I never even noticed him walking up. He was a big motherfucker, but goddamn he was quick and quiet when he wanted to be."
Becca laced her fingers through the fingers of my right hand and I gave them a squeeze as she readjusted her head against my shoulder. I turned mine to press a kiss to her hair. She was short enough that I didn't have to worry about bumping my nose. As I turned back, I noticed that there was a puddle of water on the seat across from us, and a pit formed in my stomach immediately. My face felt cold as the blood drained from it. The puddle of water made me more than just a little nervous to see it.
I had new enemies stacking up quick, and the last thing I needed was a pissed off, jealous ghost because his grieving fiancée was getting a little handsy with me. But… Antoni never showed himself, so I could only assume he approved of my offering her comfort in her time of need. Either that or he was waiting till I was alone to express his displeasure.
"'Is there a problem here?' was all he asked and the drunk bitch turned around and he got even more pissed. He goes 'Man, fuck you, white boy. Mind your own goddamned business.' And Antoni kind of got in his face, and goes, 'I have made it my business. She told you to leave. Either remove yourself or I will remove you.'
"And the liquor must've given him a bigger set of balls than he actually had, cause he took a swing at him. And Antoni, he just kind of… leaned back a little to avoid the swing and then leaned back in and… he knocked that bitch out cold with one punch. And then he picked him up, literally picked him up, and threw his ass out on the sidewalk, and kind of dusted his hands off afterwards."
"Well, if he's anything like his father then he could throw a hell of a right cross."
Becca laughed weakly.
"Yeah, his Dad boxes, they all did, you know, from when they were young. Antoni told me he got in his Dad's face once when he was about 16, and Old Papa Zabrowska coldcocked him in the kitchen, and when he woke up on the couch, his Dad dragged him out back in the alley and beat him bloody. Told him if his little grown ass thought he was a man, then he was grown enough to get his ass stomped like a man."

"Probably not," I answered.
"I mean, I could practically smell the testosterone in their fucking apartment whenever I walked in, and it was probably even worse back then. And apparently, that had been their Dad's method of keeping them from tearing up his wife's house all the time. Whenever a problem inevitably developed, he'd just take them down to the gym and throw them in the ring without any gloves and tell them to fucking handle it, and whoever was still standing at the end was the one that won the argument.
"Uh, but, uh, when Toni hit the guy, all, all I could do was stand there with my mouth hanging open like a fucking fish. I mean, I was in love, right that fucking second, standing there. The hormones were running on overdrive, my head was practically spinning with how fast all the blood rushed south, you know? Everybody was still standing there and Antoni tried to get back in line and I said, 'Uh-uh. Take your shit and go on.' And he goes," Beccs began laughing again, laughed so hard there were tears in her eyes once more.

I had to wrap my left arm tight around my stomach because I couldn't stop myself from laughing either. The makeshift bandage on my left hand that I'd wound out of paper towel had soaked through, I was going to have to change it soon.
"He didn't say that, Becca."
"Yes the fuck, he did. And I went, 'No, you dumbass, it's on the house, and in case I gotta translate, that means it's free. Small price to pay for a security detail.' And he just kind of blinked at me for a second, before he nodded his head and grabbed his things off the counter, went and filled his slushy up."
"You probably scared the piss out of him for that second, he probably thought he'd been found out. That's what they call it, what he was, Obshchak, Security Group."
"He stopped before he left, and told me thank you. And I said 'No, dziękuję', thank you. And then I winked at him and said 'Miłej nocy, piękna.'" She straightened up as the train began to slow for our stop.

We exited the train, made the switch, and stood on the platform waiting for the next to take us back to Avenue U. As I glanced to the side, I could see a puddle forming on the platform next to me, drip by drip. It was already freezing around the edges. As it turned out, I wasn't the only nosy fuck around here.
"And apparently the flirting was well received by our dearly departed half-Russian friend."
"Apparently, cause about a week later I was having a busy fucking Friday night and my Dad had already gone home, and I was trying to shut her down but motherfuckers kept coming inside right up until 11. I made DeAndre from downstairs stand at the door and tell people we were closed and that he was the last customer for the night and after I rung him up I told him to flip the sign on the door and I'd lock it when I finished my cigarette count… only, I forgot to ever lock it, and DeDe's traitorous ass, he fucking set me up. He knew I had a thing for Antoni, and when he saw him coming down off the platform and rushing down the sidewalk, he let him in and told him he was the last customer for the night and to flip the sign on the door."
She closed her eyes for a moment.
"It took me… exactly 16 minutes to notice he was there. I know, cause after I was done pissing myself when I figured out I wasn't alone, the Polish smart-ass showed me his watch. He'd set a timer when he realized I wasn't paying any attention to him, and then just stood there, waiting to see how long it would take. I had my earphones in, and it took four songs," she held up her hand and ticked them off with her fingers. "'Savage Like', 'Money, Sex, Drugs', 'Proud' and 'Only.'
"I turned around and screamed like a little bitch when I saw him. And then I got pissed, cause I was embarrassed, I'd been singing along to all the songs cause I thought I was alone in the store. I started screaming at him. 'What the fuck, you can't read? The sign says Closed.' And he goes 'No, it didn't. It still said Open. I turned it myself.' I hadn't counted down my register yet, so I just went ahead and grabbed his shit and rung him up, cussing DeDe the whole time and I asked him how long he'd been standing there, and he showed me his watch. And he says, 'You shouldn't wear those, it's dangerous,' talking about my headphones, and I said, 'What are you, my fucking father?' And he got kind of a funny look on his face."
I released a weak snicker, holding my stomach tight again. I couldn't resist fucking with them both a little bit.
"He kinda had a point, Becca. Although, I can tell you he was probably less concerned about being your father and more concerned about becoming your Daddy."
"Oh, so now you got the dirty jokes," Becca said flatly.
"What can I say, B, you're a bad influence on me."
"Eh," she said after a moment, "You wouldn't be the first. You know, months later he told me that he'd stood there that long because he didn't think he'd have the nerve to ask what he wanted to ask the next time if he left, which, you know, what the fuck? What am I, scary?"
I couldn't help but laugh again.
"Yes, Becca, you are, you're fucking terrifying half the time. You might be a short fuck but dynamite comes in small packages, you know? He was probably afraid you'd tell him to suck your dick and ban him from the store for a month like every other poor motherfucker I've seen ask you out, and he probably didn't want to go through your particular brand of ridicule in front of an audience, on top of that, with all the other customers laughing him out of the store."
"It ain't my fault I'm this size," she said after a moment, shooting me a perturbed look.
"No shit, Sherlock. It's genetics."
"It ain't even that. It's the blood. I mean, my parents were both tall, you know, for Koreans, anyway, my Mom was 5'6. I probably would've been too if I'd had the chance, but, you know, the blood it… stops things. Why do you think Jimmy looks the way he does? I mean, Pops believes in 'aging gracefully,' as he says, but old Giacomino is a vain fuck, and he's got more of a taste for 'the Stuff' than Rocco ever had. He turned 65 this year, he's only two years younger than Pops, he was already 34 years old when he met Nia for the first time. He tells people he's got a good plastic surgeon, when they ask. And the same thing happened to me. My body wanted to stay 8 years old, forever.
"Rossi had to get hormones, fucking estrogen and progesterone and HGH, off the black market to force my body to start puberty and to fucking grow. It's not like we could go to a doctor and explain why I needed the prescription. I mean, these tits aren't even mine. Ma bought 'em for my sixteenth birthday so I wouldn't feel so goddamned self-conscious. Nia's not exactly flat-chested, as you know, neither was my Mom, and it kind of gave me a fucking complex when I was growing up."
"I mean, is she? I haven't really noticed," I replied, evasively.
"Yes, you have, you lying fuck. There isn't a straight or bisexual man, or a lesbian or bisexual woman for that matter, that comes within fifty feet of Appolonia Bianchi that doesn't notice all of her unnatural charms. It made for some interesting 'family' trips during the summer when we'd leave the city, lemme tell you. I asked Pops once, you know, if he ever got jealous when she'd show up with some random dick she'd run across, cause I used to think it was pretty shitty of her.
"I said she could've at least kept things on the downlow and not throw it in Rocco's face every few days. But he told me no, he loved her, he understood her nature very well and he'd accepted what she was years before I was even born, and that she loved him too, and more importantly, respected him. She always introduced the men to him because that was what he'd asked of her. That it was the one aspect of control he had in the situation, giving his 'permission' for her little liaisons. That it made him feel better to let them know they might be getting a piece, but she'd be ending every night lying in his bed, regardless of what they did."
I nodded. "I guess I can kind of see his point."
"But, the blood, that's how I ended up pregnant. I mean, I'm not a dumbass, I know how babies are made, but I wasn't worried about using condoms with Antoni, neither of us wanted to. I told him if he gave me anything I'd cut his dick off, and he knew I was serious, too, and he considered it a proportional response. I didn't even think I could get pregnant.
"I stopped the birth control when I was 16 because it was making me gain weight and my cheer coach bitched me out in front of fucking everybody, and Rossi's guy said I needed to keep taking it to keep my hormone levels even. So I told Antoni I didnt want to get into my medical history, but suffice to say I was probably fucking sterile anyway, so he didn't have to worry about it, and he told me he wasn't worried about it at all. But apparently my fucking parts work better than I thought."
"Or maybe he had some damned determined swimmers, who knows."
"I don't know why I was even concerned about not using condoms anyway. Technically we were all excommunicated as of 2014. Pope said the mafiosi lifestyle isn't compatible with the Catholic one. I'd say his chest was stuck out but he didn't have much of a chest left these days, so I just kept that part to myself. "Pretty sure he said he wasn't worried about it because he was hoping you were wrong about being sterile."
Beccs gave me a strange look but the train arrived at just that moment. The people exiting did quite a bit of staring, unlike the people leaving the funeral, but I just tucked my arm around Becca and shouldered my way past them and found us a seat. The drops of water followed us into the train.
"What's with the present tense, Tony? Is that some kind of cliche 'he's lookin' down on you' bullshit?"
I snorted and wiped the bubble of blood from my nose, staring at the puddle of water that was starting to form in the seat next to us. I could feel the cold emanating from Antoni all along my left side. Oddly enough, it was easing the intense ache in my nearly severed ring finger.
"He ain't looking down on us, B, I can tell you that much."
"So it's a Hell joke?"
"No, not really. But then again, I'm pretty sure we're all in Hell right this second, Miss Rebecca, so yes, yes it is."

He's incredibly invalidating and dismissive, and on working class issues, I find him very anti-working class/probillionaire.
His world view is like this: People should work. Not just work a little...work A LOT. And most people's jobs, if your job isn't what he deems valuable then you should be happy with your constant poverty/close to starvation, and if you don't work, you should starve/go homeless.
I point out for example...garbage man. Say what you want, but garbage man ranks right there in terms of a crucial to society job right up there with fresh water and food imports to a city. He says garbage men should basically be paid very close to nothing vs life's living expenses on matters of housing, food, healthcare, income in retirement. Even though their job is crucial to a society, they should also be paid virtually nothing.
I point out the wealthiest ceo's utterly screw up at their jobs, they get $62 million golden parachutes, like Boeings CEO did for helping design/sell the deadliest commercial jetliner in 70 years. No jail...$62 million on his way out the door for being a screwup. Norfolk Southern's CEO poisoned a whole town, screwed all of them, he's not in jail.
He then will defend...Elon Musk as some grand savior of humanity (i'm on the EnoughMuskSpam subreddit)...because he makes $100,000 toy cars and runs a company with at a time 3600:1 Price/earnings ratio. It's like the kind of value a cult leader gives society IMO.
He gets on me because I don't work nearly as much as him...most my jobs on matters of housing/healthcare costs, they don't pay shit. If I had student loan debt, I wouldn't even have a nickel to my name in exchange for all those paychecks.
My first job paid $6 an hour, 2nd job paid $8 an hour, 3rd job paid $11-$13 an hour, held for 5.5 years. I became a trucker, and most my jobs paid not even $15 an hour, let alone $20 on average. In todays world, these are poverty wages that keep you from any independence, you practically are hand to mouth.

And I'm suppose to be...content with poverty, that all the jobs I've held, the last 10 or so, were basically all hand to mouth poverty wages rivaling high schoolers as a hazmat trucker no less?
I was in a truck for 46 of 52 weeks in 2019...and I made $52,000. 90% of every waking/sleeping hour, I'm in a truck, and I only make a hair over $1,000 every week on the road.
It doesn't make sense, we're 400 years deep on labor saving devices, I can haul a lot more goods than a truck driver did in 1925, but he would have the money to buy a house...and I never even come close.
I've worked at big name companies too...JB Hunt, know what I made there? $10-$16 an hour for HAZMAT Intermodal Container work...I worked 13 hours in July of 20...I looked at my JB Hunt Hazmat Intermodal Container check for the day...$124, I made less than $10 an hour, and put in effectively 5 hours of overtime. Clone that story 20x, absolute absurdities like that, that's my work existence. My last message to JB Hunt dispatch was "I can flip burgers and make more money than I do here".
FexEx, Double's and Triples, I worked 60 hours a week, no overtime becauase it'd be paid cents per mile, I'd come home. Sleep, work, sleep, work, every day, 1 day off a week. I'd be so tired, i'd have micronaps behind the wheel and almost drive off the road.
To hear him tell me....that I'm a slacker, I don't like to work. You're god damn right I don't like to work...this isn't the 1950's, it's not like I get a job and work it 5 years and by the end of it I have a paid off house.
I'm sick of that shit, I don't want to talk to him anymore, I have to block his number. I sent him a link to a article that I found highly relatable, mankind is the most constrained its ever been on matters of self-determination, I can't do this anymore though. We got shared interestes/hobbies/backgrounds, but for him to shill for the country to be a billionaires paradise, and then unless you fork over your entire existence to nothing but work as this is how it should be, I can't be around him I think.
To me this isn't a disagreement of politics/economics, this is a disagreement of morals.

While it's been a few weeks since the Diamond League opener in Doha, there has been plenty of track and field action elsewhere in the world as athletes around the world get their outdoor seasons going. This weekend has already been busy with a World Athletics Gold Label meet in Los Angeles that included:
The next stop in the Diamond League season takes us to the Moroccan city of Rabat!
For American distance running fans, the men's 1500m is probably the marquee event of the program. It features Yared Nuguse making his Diamond League debut after a great winter and early spring that was highlighted by American indoor records in the 3000m and mile. Because Nuguse missed out on the 2021 Tokyo Olympics (made the team and went to Japan but couldn't compete due to injury) and 2022 Eugene World Championships (didn't make the team), this race should be an exciting test to see how well he'll stack up against world-class talent like Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Abel Kipsang.
On the women's distance side, Gudaf Tsegay will be making her season debut in the women's 1500m. Unfortunately, Faith Kipyegon isn't in this race, but Tsegay will be joined by three other sub-4 women (Freweyni Hailu, Linden Hall, and Winnie Nanyondo) and a Cory McGee who is still on the hunt to finally find the third of a second that would make her a member of the sub-4 club. The women's 800m features Natoya Goule and Sage Hurta-Klecker opening up in their primary event against 2022 Eugene bronze medalist Mary Moraa and current world leader Catriona Bisset.
Shifting attention to the sprints, while we won't get to see the Marcell Jacobs vs. Fred Kerley showdown that we had hoped for in the men's 100m, Kerley is still racing a strong field that includes Trayvon Bromell, Letsile Tebogo, and Ferdinand Omanyala. In the women's 200m, Shericka Jackson is taking a step up from her season-opener 100m race in Doha to face a field that includes Tamari Davis, Kayla White, and Anthonique Strachan.
