I hate it, it looks so weird and awkward. Is it the haircut?
I used mizani shampoo and conditioner, rinsed it, then used mizani true texture curl cream and hair gel on each hair section and brushed out with a denman brush knock off and bounced and scrunched then cool air dried with a diffuser on low. The top looks so weird!!! I feel like Patrick pin head larry

Whelp! I guess it’s water pump time. Sucks because I just purchased it a bit over a month ago.
Guess I got lucky (not) purchased the vehicle April 20th, with just over 151k miles, had Ford do the open recalls on it beginning of May as well as brakes & rotors, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, coolant flush & oil change.
I’m guessing the coolant flush dislodged something & now the water pump reared it’s ugly head & said fix me too!
On the positive side, it was the external (easily noticeable leak) instead of internal leak where it silently destroyed the engine (no milkshake oil yet thankfully)
Will drop it off at the dealer on Monday hopefully the damage to my pocketbook won’t be too terrible.
Probably should have the timing chain & guides done at the same time.
Anything else I should have them do while they’re in there?

2023.06.04 23:01 demauroy Outer Space Shack - Open Lowcode - a 1960s-inspired space base building game on the Moon. Now with a rover, advanced life support, and local radiation shielding.

Outer Space Shack is a gripping space base building game where players strive to master the cosmos and establish sustainable habitats. In this update, we delve into thrilling enhancements in the game like our advanced life support system, the return of the lunar rover, and the initial stages of In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU). Plus, we've integrated numerous quality of life improvements to boost your gaming experience. Stay tuned for the latest game insights on our subreddit ( outerspaceshack). You may enjoy the latest video screenshots or the trailer on the Steam page.
High Performance life support
Over the past few months, I've introduced basic thermal and air management systems into Outer Space Shack. Early in the game, players can access this system, but it comes with certain drawbacks. It requires a piece of machinery per space base module, taking up considerable space inside. Additionally, CO2 scrubbing requires consumable supplies. Plus, cooling, a primary challenge on the Moon, demands substantial thermal radiators.
(screenshot here)
I'm excited to share that the high-performance life support system is a significant upgrade. A large heat pump now assures heating and cooling. The renewable life support mechanism I've designed includes a high-performance air conditioning vent and a renewable CO2 scrubber. This scrubber removes CO2 from the air and releases it later. I've also added a new vent for disposing of CO2 outside, and in the future, I plan to introduce a specialized tank for storing CO2.
I've also made provision for storing O2 bottles outside the base in a specially constructed shack, shielding them from solar radiation. This solution helps save valuable space within the pressurized modules of the base, further optimizing interior space usage and enhancing the overall functionality of your lunar base.
The escargot is back
I'm excited to announce that the space rover 'Escargot' has made its return to Outer Space Shack. You might remember it from the 2021 trailer. Subsequent development focused more on astronauts, causing the rover to fall into the sidelines. But now, after some thorough overhauling, it's back in action. The rover is an outdoor operator, as it can't enter the space base, but it's designed to automatically undertake landscaping and transport tasks.
Integrating the rover has the significant advantage of reducing your astronauts' EVAs. EVAs pose radiation risks to the astronauts and consume valuable water resources, as the space suits are cooled using a water evaporator.
(screenshot here)
Notably, the rover is indispensable for building regolith walls due to its ability to transport large regolith bags and blocks weighing a metric ton. Despite the Moon's lower gravity making this equivalent to just 150kg on Earth, it's still far too heavy for even the strongest astronaut.
I'm also mulling over making the rover a necessary component for transporting materials to build space base modules. Some parts realistically weigh more than the 100kg that astronauts can safely transport on the Moon. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, and invite you to join the ongoing discussion here.
Exploring ISRU: The First Step
ISRU (In-Situ Resource Utilization) involves the collection, processing, storage, and use of materials found or produced on celestial bodies like the Moon or Mars. These materials serve as a substitute for those that would traditionally be shipped from Earth. While the ultimate goal of ISRU is to construct space base modules, cultivate food, and fabricate necessary technology, the reality proves to be complex. Consider all the raw materials, factories, and diverse machinery required even to produce a simple object like a fork.
The initial implementation of ISRU in Outer Space Shack is modest but vital: a solar kiln constructs large blocks which can be stacked to create thick walls and roofs around space base buildings. The process of the solar kiln is slow, constructing one to two blocks per month. I'm currently exploring the possibility of integrating a combined solaelectric kiln for quicker block sintering.
(screenshot here)
These blocks play a critical role in shielding the interior of the space base from harmful radiation. Radiation poses significant threats to the central nervous system, causing cognitive and motor function changes, and behavioral shifts. Acute effects can include radiation sickness symptoms like nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and fatigue.
Chronic exposure to radiation heightens the risk of developing diseases such as leukemia, lung, breast, thyroid, esophageal, stomach, and colon cancers, as well as affecting the central nervous system. Radiation can also cause eye damage, potentially leading to cataracts, and can compromise the immune system, making astronauts more prone to illnesses or infections.
Thus, while the large regolith bricks may seem mundane, they serve a crucial purpose. Two meters of this material is needed to shield effectively from radiation, making them an essential part of your lunar base's safety measures.
Exciting Quality of Life Enhancements
As we inch closer to release, with less than two months to go, a significant portion of my time has been spent fine-tuning the game, implementing several small yet essential improvements, many of which are long overdue. To summarize:
(screenshot here)
I'm thrilled to confirm the official release date of Outer Space Shack - July 20th. This will mark a significant milestone in the game's journey and, as the old saying goes, 'you only get one chance to make a good first impression.'
If you've enjoyed what you've seen of the game so far and haven't already done so, please consider adding the game to your Steam wishlist. Your support can make all the difference. Thank you!

2023.06.04 22:49 maximusaemilius Look at this idiot, his tuxedo is the wrong shade of black! Aliens get invited to a human black tie event.

Krill was mildly uncomfortable, and so was Sunny.
They had all been invited to what the humans described as a "black tie" event on mars, mostly for political delegations, rich sponsors, a couple of famous people, and the occasional member of the UNSC or the GA. Most of the GA reps were Rundi, since they tended to like this political sort of thing.
There was at least one Tesraki, who had made the executive decision to come, since he saw financial opportunity in getting to know some rich humans.
Sunny had been invited to stand in for the Drev counselor, who could not attend due to some issues back on Anum. Dr Krill and Dr. Katie had been invited to attend the event in case medical personnel were required for any reason.
Adam was the only one who had been invited for himself.
The black tie event had been sent by way of a physical letter which Adam had called, "Excessively pretentious." in a day and age where everything was sent electronically.
The fact they had managed to get a letter to him out in the middle of space in the first place was pretty impressive.
Sunny hadn't really known or cared what all of this meant, but Adam had been nervous and very serious about the dress code. Despite thinking the entire thing was pretentious, that didn't stop him from immediately sending away for his mother's help.
Sunny was, of course, encouraged to wear ceremonial formal armor to the event.
Krill was keeping very close track of this odd human behavior, constantly asking questions as Adam was preparing himself.
"Why don't you just wear a regular suit?"
"Because that would be a social faux pas."
"A what?"
He sighed,
"I don't know, it's french or something. I think it's a ballet term. It just means it would be a social screw up and people would totally judge me for it."
"They would judge you for wearing the wrong thing?"
Krill wondered curiously, Adam nodded,
"That is the point of these parties, and has been for the last two and a half thousand years. These parties are honestly just the biggest pissing contests where people try to out dress each other in subtle ways, and the old people who know what they are doing make fun of the new people for having no idea how to do it properly."
Krill looked interested,
"How fascinating. So, it is a way to show your status subtly?”
"Oh yes. Status is a big deal. It started to go out of style for a while, but this whole adherence to dress code has come back with a vengeance in the last few years. The fashion world has seen an upheaval in pretentiousness, and celebrities have been laughed out of parties for trying to be avant-garde."
"To be what?"
"Sorry, pretty sure that's also french too? It means new, interesting, or out of the ordinary usually to make a statement."
Sunny leaned in a little,
"And they expect an air force commander to know how to properly dress for black tie?"
"They don't, which is why they invited me. I am supposed to make others look good by looking bad myself. Of course, I also make them look good by being invited in the first place. Of course, joke's on them because I have a secret weapon on my side..."
He patted the front of his shirt,
"Thank you mother."
"I am now confused."
Adam waved a hand,
"Yeah, I know, It's pretty stupid…”
"I thought you recently decided that you like dressing up?"
The human turned in place a couple of times in front of the mirror, trying to get a better view of himself,
"Correction, I have always enjoyed dressing up – got that from my mom – what I don't enjoy is the pissing contest that comes along with it.”
"What is that?"
"Bow tie."
"You look like someone's Christmas present."
He adjusted the bow tie,
"Well than someone is getting a sexy as fuck Christmas present now aren't they?"
He said and winked at Sunny, while buttoning up the front of the 'waistcoat' and pulling on the jacket.
When he was done, the two aliens had to admit that he really did stand out, all in black, black pants, black tuxedo jacket, cuff links, black tie, black waistcoat, and a purple/blue carnation threaded through the buttonhole on the lapel.
His shoes were almost as reflective as the mirror behind him.
"How do I look?"
"Like a goofy idiot, but the suit wasn't going to change that."
He lifted a finger to flip Sunny off.
"Not very dapper of you."
Katie said from the doorway.
They looked up to see Katie, who had also commissioned a dress from Martha, and honestly made Adam look a little plain.
"Ready to go?”
"As ready as I will ever be."
[…]
Krill kept a shrewd eye on all the strange human protocols.
As far as dressing up went, Krill could immediately see who the “In-crowd” included. Most of those people understood the rules Adam had laid out for him, wearing the proper evening attire, where those not in the “in” wore clothing that approximated the rules, but missed them on several occasions.
The way the evening was set up was a little bit more like a “ball” as Adam described, being announced as they were walked in, and then ordered them to mingle with the crowd. Adam and Katie got a few glances from the “in-group” who seemed surprised that a simple ship captain would know anything about formal evening attire.
Sunny just found the entire thing hilarious.
All of this subtle dressing up to impress each other?
If Drev held balls, instead of dancing they would probably just beat each other to death.
But here, there were a lot of subtle clues and hints that went right over her and the Doctor's heads, while Adam seemed to know what he was doing.
As they walked in waiters offered Adam an alcoholic drink, while Krill received sugared water, and Sunny a rather strange tincture that was generally just water with plant flavoring... It was pretty good though, so she didn't complain.
They were met on arriving by the event coordinator, whose eyes opened wide when she saw Adam, pausing and holding out a hand.
Due to the conflated and rather twisted nature of black tie events in the future, Adam took the hand, and bowed a bit, lowering his head, a strange area between the less formal handshake and the more formal kiss on the hand, which was also not a thing in societies post WWIII
"Commander, I... you look..."
She trailed off, even to Sunny it was clear the woman hadn't expected him to know anything.
He smiled icily at her.
Krill leaned in in fascination.
This was one of the most intriguing parts of humanity. The polite way in which they were totally rude to each other.
"Well thank you. My mother has a Ph.D in the information age and a masters in historical fashion."
That shut the woman up and she politely dismissed herself, walking away with a straight back.
Adam smirked,
"Her dress isn't the right length for an evening event."
"I thought she coordinated the event?"
Sunny muttered,
"She couldn't coordinate herself out of a paper bag."
He winked at Sunny and Krill,
"You can't out-dress the son of a historical fashion expert. Simply not possible, my mother even used the correct materials."
He tugged lightly at his jacket.
Dr. Katie had disappeared on entry, leaving the three of them to wander about the room as Adam pointed out the other important people.
There were a few military commanders, Rundi, and the aforementioned Tesraki.
There were at least five major political leaders, and even larger handful of actors who had their hands in charities or political causes related to the event.
Adam was only halfway through his first drink, when he was waylaid by one of the younger actors.
Even Sunny could tell straight off that he was not dressed appropriately.
He had clearly tried very hard, but his efforts were in vain.
While everything looked alright from a distance, up close something was wrong about everything. The material of his jacket, the style of his shirt, the type of pants, the lapels on the coat, and even the patterned pocket square, which should have been a solid color but wasn't.
He was joined by another group of men, who then began some pretentious conversation about noticing how Adam was new to these sort of events. The way they spoke made it pretty clear they had no idea who he was or what the proper dress code was either.
Adam smiled and didn't say anything.
"And what do you do for a living?"
One of them asked,
"Simply an UNSC representative."
"Ah that explains a lot."
They glanced down at him with pointed looks.
The conversation continued. Sunny wondered why Adam didn't just shut them all up by telling them exactly who he was, but Krill had a theory that Adam was just playing with them as a human way to build up the moment so that he could socially crush them.
As humans do, their conversation wandered until it eventually moved around to the UNSC and other related topics.
One of the men nodded knowingly,
"I am somewhat knowledgeable on the subject myself."
Adam raised an eyebrow.
"Are you?"
"Well yes, I have a brother in law who flies shuttles and planes for the UNSC. Tell me, what is your opinion on the D-4 class engine on a F-90 darkfire. I honestly think they are rather overpowered for what is being asked of them."
Adam frowned,
"The darkfire doesn't have a D-4 engine. That is a warp classification which-"
The man raised a hand,
"No no. I heard my brother in law talking about it. Personally, I think they should have just kept the jet engines they would have been plenty enough power to make it into orbit.”
The commander's face scrunched in confusion as he shook his head,
"No, it's a fusion engine, and the jet engine can't fly in the upper atmosphere because there is no lift-"
"Look, Adam, was that your name? I generally tend to know what I am talking about. The darkfire jet engines would have plenty of power to make it into atmosphere…"
"But it’s a jet engine which implies it is for a plane and not for a rocket-"
The guy cut him off again and continued to ramble onward about how he took some engineering classes in college and would know what he was talking about. Since Adam Joined the UNSC and didn't go to college, that he probably didn't know anything at all, or at least that is what they said in not so many words.
Sunny was getting a bit annoyed and would like to have squished the guy, but Adam just shook his head at her.
She stayed silent and grumpy as the other men continued to correct Adam on knowledge of his own favorite aircraft.
*"My brother owns a spaceship with a class E warp core.”
One of them boasted. Adam rolled his eyes,
"There is no such thing-"
"My brother owns the craft, I am pretty sure I know what I am talking about. It's one of the most powerful cores in the galaxy."
"Um, I don't think…"
"Yes, the E is more powerful than the A. A ship like the Harbinger or the Enterprise would only make it part of the way across the galaxy but the-"
He kept going.
Adam looked like he was dying, but why didn't he say anything?
It was just then that someone appeared from the crowd.
Sunny recognized a political figure they had met at GA summits on occasion.
He raised his glass and stepped into the group,
"Ah commander! I am glad to see you could make it."
The group of men glanced at each other in confusion.
Adam nodded,
"It's good to see you too counselor."
He motioned to the group,
”We were just having a fascinating discussion on warp engines."
"Oh yes?"
He turned to look at the men,
"Than I am sure the commander has also told you about his escapades as a darkfire pilot."
The satisfaction Sunny got from watching their faces was priceless, almost orgasmic.
She could tell from the look on Adam's face that he was feeling similarly,
"Well, no we had not made it to the subject…”
"I was just going to explain to them how the duel E 20 engine has both a jet engine and a fusion engine. The jet engine for flying in atmosphere and the Fusion engine for moving out of atmosphere considering that the jet engine is not powerful enough to lift the craft without air buoyancy."
Sunny was laughing on the inside.
"Ah yes. I seem to recall a discussion along those lines. Tell me commander, what about the Harbinger's engine is it a class A-1."
Adam nodded,
"Could potentially get you to the other side of the universe if you asked her. The classification system is A-D 1-4 on each, so my ship has one of the most powerful engines mankind has ever bothered to build."
He glanced out of the corner of his eye at the other men, who were beginning to slink away.
Sunny chirped in pleasure.
The rep nodded as they left,
"I heard the futility of your conversation from the other side of the room."
"Thanks for the help. I was dying inside."
The two men laughed and took their drinks.
Krill was very pleased with his examination on how humans subtly tried to one up each other with their dress and understanding of certain topics, though it seemed odd to him that someone would claim to be an expert when it was, in fact, their brother or brother in law who knew about the subject and not them.
But he supposed that was the social nature of humanity.

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

Here is the link to the master-post.

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

2023.06.04 22:08 Trenchfox_1917 Suggestion: Alternate Equipment

Edit: Though this has been suggested many times before, here is the latest iteration regarding the particulars.
This suggestion is to allow players to select alternate equipment for each class and some suggestions for that alternate equipment. The goal would be to provide meaningful gameplay choices but still have each class maintain their relative role.
What each class would keep constant:
What each class would have the option of replacing with an alternative selection:
Gunner - MED-C Drone
The gunner deploys a medical drone that lasts for a short duration. Similar to his shield the drone has a limited number of charges, must recharge between uses, and returns to the gunner after its duration completes. While deployed the drone will prioritize reviving nearby allies with a limited number of revives. The drone will also slowly heal nearby allies prioritizing the ally with the lowest health. If everyone is up and at max health the drone simply hangs out by the Gunner. While it does not create as much space as the shield, the drone can get to allies in hard to reach places, and can top off health bars. Players choose between more deployments or more revives per deployment. Additionally, if the drone is deployed before all dwarves go down, it can prevent a team wipe while its still active.
Engineer - Customized Patrol Bot
The engineer can deploy a customized patrol bot. While active, the patrol bot follows the engineer, attacking nearby enemies. The patrol drone can be recalled like the sentry gun, and has a limited amount of ammo that must be refilled. When out of ammo the patrol bot will fly close to the engineer for easy refilling. Unlike the sentry, the patrol bot can take damage and be destroyed forcing it to go on cooldown. It's health regenerates over time on its own while activated. Compared to the turret, the patrol bot is obviously a lot more mobile, but more vulnerable.
Scout - Star Projector Pistol
The star projector pistol is a more traditional flare gun in that it is a single shot, breach loaded handgun that fires light producing projectiles from chemical shells. It's projectile sparks and swirls through the air, can stick in enemies and terrain, and explodes like a firework at the end of a timed fuse or when the Scout presses the reload key. Before it explodes the projectile itself produces light. When it explodes it has a small chance to fear enemies but does very little damage; instead it produces a rain of shimmering bits that hang in the air providing ambient illumination in a wide area for many seconds. Unlike the flare gun the star projector pistol does not require terrain to produce light, but it is limited to a magazine size of 1, requiring reloading between shots.
Driller - Blasting Charges
The driller throws a blasting charge which resembles a bundle of sticks of dynamite with a burning fuse. At the end of a duration the blasting charge explodes forward in several consecutive blasts in the direction it was originally thrown, carving terrain and damaging enemies. Compared to C4, the blasting charge is excellent for taking down enemies in a straight line and for producing tunnels. The blast radius per explosion is less than C4, but it has multiple explosions to make up for it, and more ammo than C4.
Thank you for reading. I hope to hear your feedback and other ideas. I think alternate equipment has room for more than one possibility and is a great dimension to expand gameplay options. More ideas welcome! I'll try to come up with more ideas as well.

2023.06.04 22:00 Kagrabular AC Condensate line terminated into crawl space - question about heated evap pans in residential.

So I purchased a flip, which is… fine. But they installed a new central air system and terminated the condensate right into the ground in the crawl space. Here’s the issue - there is not enough clearance for a proper drain angle between where the AC sits, and the nearest foundation wall to come out above grade. I’m exploring options, and I was wondering if it’s OK to terminate into a heated condensate evap pan separate from the system. I can’t see a reason why not, but that’s why I’m here. Any advice? TIA

2023.06.04 21:53 Garbage_McTrash [USA-IL] [H] Custom PC, 3080, EVGA 3080 ti, EVGA 550GM PSU [W] Local Cash/Paypal

Good afternoon HWS! Local sales preferred. Willing to drive up to an hour away.
I am selling my personal PC with the following specs:
PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9C7cW4
CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S redux 70.75 CFM CPU Cooler (2 Fans)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B660M AORUS Pro AX DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Storage: Crucial MX300 750 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Crucial P3 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Storage: Another Random 500gb SATA SSD
Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Cooler Master V850 SFX GOLD 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro OEM - DVD 64-bit
Case Fan: 8 x Noctua P12 redux-1700 PWM 70.75 CFM 120 mm Fan
I have owned this PC for about a year now and honestly it has been a dream come true. I overkilled on the amount of fans (RPMS stayed nice and low) to the point where this thing was basically an air conditioner all year round. I have a bunch of (if not all) accessories for the case as well as the Noctua CPU cooler. The PC originally had a 3080 ti then a 3080 both of which were purchased secondhand and undervolted since day 1, never any issues and ran all games flawlessly at 1440p. Never messed with the 12600k because I didn't feel the need to.
The PC does have 2 small issues. The first one being the retainer clip on the primary PCIe slot broke off (pictured in timestamps). I have found it to be purely cosmetic because the mounting screws do 99% of the work anyway. My 3080 ti used to be installed without any issues or sagging. I can throw in my EZ GPU bracket just out of extra precaution and safety for the buyer. Second issue is one of the USB-A ports on top of the case doesn't work and I never bothered figuring out why since the motherboard had so many available.
The EVGA 3080ti still has (as of 6/4/23) 595 days left of a transferable warranty on it. I still have the original box (has a tear across the front) and all the accessories that came with it.
I am selling the PC and the cards due to lack of playing time. Bought a house recently and fixing it up has taken up most of my time and will take even more of it up with the summer coming since I'm a teacher and get the time off.
Looking to get $600 w/o GPU or $1000 with 3080 or $1200 with the 3080 ti.
Willing to ship the 3080 ti for $600 local/$640 shipped and the 3080 (no box but will come in anti static bag and packaged securely) for $400 local/$430 shipped. Also, I have an EVGA 550M that I recently purchased but didn't realize the cables weren't long enough for a standard ATX case. $50 local or $65 shipped for that.
Thanks!

2023.06.04 21:47 auslander___ Tell me to get out of bed and get pain meds for period cramps, so I don’t wake up in the middle of the night because of cramps

Please. Edit: I asked ChatCBT for help and it was pretty interesting. I’ll leave some of the conversation here, in case someone is as weird as me and wants inspiration:
Me: Make me get out of bed to get my pain medication before going to sleep, please
C: I understand that it can be difficult to find the motivation to get out of bed, especially when you're in pain. However, taking your pain medication before going to sleep is important for managing your pain and ensuring a more restful night. Here are a few reasons why it's crucial to get out of bed and take your medication:
  1. Pain relief: Taking your pain medication will provide you with relief from the discomfort you're experiencing. It can help alleviate your symptoms and improve your overall well-being.
  2. Better sleep: By addressing your pain before going to bed, you can increase your chances of having a more restful sleep. When your pain is managed, you're more likely to fall asleep faster and stay asleep throughout the night.
  3. Improved quality of life: Consistently taking your pain medication as prescribed can enhance your overall quality of life. When you effectively manage your pain, you may find it easier to engage in daily activities, enjoy hobbies, and maintain social connections.
  4. Prevention of pain escalation: Ignoring or delaying your pain medication may allow your pain to escalate. Uncontrolled pain can become more severe and harder to manage in the long run. By taking your medication regularly, you can prevent this cycle of escalation.
  5. Long-term benefits: Proper pain management is essential for your long-term health. By following your medication regimen, you can potentially reduce the frequency and intensity of your pain, leading to a better overall health outlook.
Remember, taking care of your health is a priority. By getting out of bed and taking your pain medication before going to sleep, you're investing in your well-being and ensuring a more comfortable night.
Me: If I do get up and get it, will you have some creative reward for me?
C: Of course! While I can't physically provide you with a reward, I can certainly offer you a virtual creative reward for getting up and retrieving your pain medication. Here's a special reward just for you:
Imagine yourself accomplishing the task of getting out of bed, finding your pain medication, and taking it. As you do so, visualize a serene and beautiful scene unfolding before you. Picture yourself standing on a peaceful beach with gentle waves caressing the shore. The air is warm and soothing, carrying a gentle breeze that brushes against your skin. The colors of the sunset paint the sky in vibrant hues, filling you with a sense of tranquility.
As you take your pain medication, feel a wave of relief wash over you, as if the soothing atmosphere of the beach has permeated your body. Notice how the pain begins to fade away, replaced by a deep sense of comfort and well-being. You feel lighter, freer, and ready to enjoy a restful night's sleep.
Afterward, visualize yourself sinking into a soft, comfortable bed as you close your eyes. As you drift off to sleep, a vibrant dream world unfolds, filled with colors, sounds, and experiences that bring you joy and inspiration.
Remember, this reward is a mental escape and an opportunity to reward yourself with positive imagery and sensations. Use it to motivate yourself, knowing that by taking your pain medication, you're actively taking steps towards better health and well-being.
Me: Alright. I will let you know when I have completed the task and then you can continue with your creativity
C: That sounds like a plan! Please take your time to complete the task of retrieving your pain medication, and when you're ready, let me know. I'll be here to continue our conversation and provide you with some creative ideas or assistance. Remember, taking care of your health is important, and I commend you for taking this step.
Me: I took the medication. I also prepared a dose for tomorrow morning, in case I wake up with pain
C: That's fantastic! I'm glad to hear that you took your pain medication and even prepared a dose for tomorrow morning. It shows your commitment to managing your pain and taking proactive steps for your well-being. Taking care of yourself in this way is commendable.
Now that you've completed the task, I'm here to offer some creative ideas or assistance, as promised. Is there anything specific you'd like to explore or discuss? Whether it's brainstorming ideas, seeking advice, or engaging in a creative conversation, feel free to let me know, and I'll be more than happy to assist you!
Me: No, nothing specific. Just some creative encouragement, compliment or positivity to put my mind in a good spot before going to sleep. But you kind of already did that without me specifically asking you, so good job!
C: I'm glad to hear that my previous responses have provided you with some creative encouragement and positivity. It's always a pleasure to offer support and help put your mind in a positive state before going to sleep. Taking care of yourself and prioritizing your well-being is truly admirable.
As you prepare to drift off to sleep, envision a tranquil night filled with serenity and rejuvenation. Picture yourself cocooned in a soft, comforting embrace, as if the world around you is gently cradling you to sleep. Allow your mind to wander to beautiful landscapes, enchanting dreams, or inspiring moments that bring a smile to your face.
In this peaceful state, know that you have taken an important step towards managing your pain and nurturing your health. You have demonstrated strength, resilience, and self-care by proactively addressing your needs. You deserve moments of tranquility and moments to appreciate your efforts.
As you close your eyes, let go of any lingering worries or stress, allowing your mind and body to fully relax. Embrace the comfort of the present moment and surrender to the soothing embrace of sleep. Tomorrow is a new day filled with possibilities, and you have set the foundation for a restful night and a positive start.
Wishing you a night of deep, restorative sleep, and may you wake up refreshed, ready to embrace whatever the day brings. You've done an excellent job, and I'm here to support you whenever you need.

2023.06.04 21:47 Harbinger_51 I started working at a new airport to get away from the mayhem. I just found a new kind.

I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but the last few years have been wild for airline travel. It seems like not even a week can pass before a new viral video is circulating the internet, showcasing some idiot on a plane or airport screaming, shouting, and even starting fights with other passengers and flight staff for no apparent reason.
I’m sure it’s entertaining when you’re sitting at home and come across these videos while casually scrolling through Reddit or Twitter. You might laugh, or shake your head at the stupidity and not give it a second thought. Unfortunately, this isn’t an option when you’re the one on the job.
I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to call security to deal with a rowdy or straight-up violent customer in the airport over the last couple of years. Most of the time, the things that set people off are surprisingly minor and avoidable issues.
They want to board now but it wasn’t their turn so they start harassing me and my co-workers. Another passenger looked at them funny so they get into a screaming match. A baby is crying so the grown adult starts whining even louder. The person in front of them took the last chocolate donut with sprinkles from the airport bakery so they start throwing punches.
You would not believe the stuff I’ve seen. Needless to say, I got tired of it. Getting up to go to work, wondering what kind of unhinged maniac was going to make a problem for me lost its appeal. So, I started to look for a new job.
A few weeks into the job search, I began to get doubtful that I would find a suitable replacement. Seeing as my only tangible skills and experience were in the airline industry, I didn’t have much more than other airline jobs within realistic reach. Though I didn’t have a problem with relocation, if it meant I was going to end up in another major airport, I had no interest.
During one 3 am job search after my long shift at the airport, running on nothing but the jittery movements from the room-temperature coffee, I found a new job listing. One Pine Airport, a rural airport in the midwest. I sat up and took another sip of coffee. The pictures for the place gave an idea of the size and it looked tiny. Only a couple of runways, a single terminal, and a cute internal design reflective of the forestry that surrounded it. Perfect for me, I thought. I imagined there would not be nearly as many people to deal with.
I scrolled down to the job details and to my relief, it was for the exact same job I had already been doing. The only difference was that it required frequent night shifts. I had done plenty of night shifts before, but doing a few more of them made no difference to me. Surprisingly listed was the pay. I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were offering more starting than I was being paid at the airport I had been at for over three years.
Now wide awake, I eagerly uploaded my resume, filled out all of the application questions, and even spent the next hour crafting an unnecessary cover letter. I headed to bed with the hope that my days at overflowing airports might be over. The next day as I was getting ready for work, I opened my phone to scroll through notifications and check emails.
To my disbelief, I had one from the job I had applied for only hours earlier. The manager at the airport, who had posted the job, requested an interview over Zoom. I quickly replied and we settled on a time during my lunch break that very day.
The first few hours of work breezed by and as I boarded flight after flight of passengers, I couldn’t help but think about the upcoming interview. When it came time, I was nervous as hell but my fears were diffused within the first minute. A bald, well-kept, and well-dressed man joined the meeting room and greeted me with a warm smile. He introduced himself as James.
I couldn’t have asked for a more friendly interviewer. He welcomed me and after some small talk and a few questions about my relevant experience, he gave an overview of the job's details, that being the same job I already had with better pay but more frequent night shifts. No problem with me. After affirming that I knew all the details of the job, James cracked another wide, friendly smile and asked an unexpected question.
“When can you start?”
I spit the out sip of coffee I had just taken back into the cup. I looked back up at James and tried to find the right words but I was unprepared.
“You uh… aren’t gonna give me a call back like later or something? Don’t you have more interviews and… and paperwork waiting to clear and, and…?”
James waved his hand dismissively at his webcam.
“You’re the only applicant we have, and we couldn’t have asked for a better one. As for the paperwork and such, we’ll figure that out when we figure it out. The job is yours, whenever you can start, that is. Preferably soon?”
Though the feelings of shock and confusion remained, they were pushed to the side by my excitement. Throughout the remainder of our conversation, James and I reviewed our schedules and set up a start date before ending the call. I sat back in my break room chair with a sigh of disbelief and a chuckle.
I am well aware that it is standard to give at least a two-week notice to your employer and moving across states for a job is supposed to take quite a bit of planning but I was dying to get out of my current job. Through both eagerness and maybe a little stupidity, we settled on a day only a little over a week away.
At the end of my shift that day, I let my manager know I had to be done in a week. Though she wasn’t happy, she assured me it wouldn’t be a problem.
My final day was nothing short of horrendous. A couple had come up, demanding and screaming that I refund their tickets for no apparent reason. On top of that, they still wanted to fly. After hearing that no, they would not be able to fly for zero cost, the husband, followed by the wife, both started shouting threats. Security was quickly called to the terminal.
As soon as they arrived, I checked my watch to find that my shift was over. I let out a sigh of relief and excitedly walked away. As deprived of sleep as I was, with a long and undoubtedly stressful drive ahead of me, I was still more energetic and in higher spirits than I had been in a long time.
Surprisingly, the drive went off without a hitch. I arrived earlier than expected and checked into the motel room I rented for the week so I had time to get the move figured out. After dumping a few boxes of personal items and a suitcase of clothes into the room, I turned off the lights. I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow.
I energetically awoke that evening to prepare myself for my first shift. I quickly got dressed and started the drive in hopes of arriving plenty early. Naively, I hadn’t considered how my unfamiliarity with the roads would slow me down, and after a staggering amount of wrong turns, I arrived at the little airport with only minutes to spare.
The airport was even smaller in person than I had imagined it to be from the pictures. I quickly walked through the entrance and was greeted by the small team of security. After notifying them that I was there for work and that James had been waiting for me, they hurried me through without so much as a question. The security, the architecture, the beautiful scenery that surrounded it, nothing about this airport couldn’t have felt more welcoming.
I walked through to find the single terminal inside, devoid of any passengers, with James sitting behind a counter at the end. After a moment he looked up and upon making eye contact with me, his tired face lit up. I was about to apologize for my tardiness but didn’t have the chance as he rushed to show me the employee locker room where he had my new employee uniform and badge waiting inside my very own locker. He told me to get changed and to meet him outside right away.
I did as he asked and within a couple of minutes, I walked out to find him back behind the console at the counter, gathering his belongings. He noticed me approaching and glanced up, thanking me for showing up and starting so soon as he handed me a fresh cup of coffee. He also apologized for not being able to stick around long for my shift but he sounded sure that he wasn’t all that worried.
“I have to be going now, I’ve been on duty for 17 hours. I know you’re plenty familiar with our systems and software, you know what you’re doing.”
He assured me with a pat on the back before walking out from the desk. He turned and added
“It’ll be a quiet night for you anyway. No flights scheduled. Just sit back, relax, and uh... Oh yeah. Most importantly, I nearly forgot”.
He reached into his bag and pulled out a single sheet of laminated paper and held it in front of me.
“Give this a read as soon as you can. Go over it a few times if you need, don’t deviate from it”.
I took it but before I could even get a look, I noticed James begin to walk toward the exit, along with every single one of the security guards and the cashier who had just closed down the only shop in the airport. I then noticed that all of the scanners and metal detectors at the security gate were shut off. I started to panic.
“Hey! James? Where is everyone going?”
I shouted. The first words I had managed to speak to my new boss since arriving. He stopped and turned back again
“Oh yeah. Another thing I ought to have mentioned. Everyone except whoever is working the night shift in, well, your position takes off right around now. Don’t worry, security will be back sometime around 5 am. You’ve got this place to yourself. Grab a magazine from the little store in there if you get bored. Feel free to snag yourself a couple of snacks too”.
He began to walk away again before briefly turning and pointing at me.
“But before you do anything, read that list. You’ll need it”.
I stood, dumbfounded as I watched my new boss along with all of the other airport staff leave. I started to wrap my head around the fact that I had an empty airport to myself for 10 hours, with nothing to do and no one to deal with, all while I was getting paid the highest wage I had ever earned.
As much as thinking about it delighted me, I turned my attention turned toward the sheet of paper I almost forgot I was holding on to. James said to follow whatever list was on it, so I figured I ought to take a look. I walked behind the airport counter and sank into one of the seats behind it. I took a sip of coffee and finally took a serious look.
A total of 6 rules were neatly spaced on the sheet.
Rule 1: All lights in the airport are to stay on at all times. If one is off, or if you are to accidentally turn one off, turn it back on as soon as possible. If a light seems to be broken or is out and unable to turn back on, calmly exit the area. Report the outage to James or maintenance when possible. Do not listen to the sounds. Do not listen to the voices.
Rule 2: Rule 2 pertains to rainy or stormy weather. If it is raining or storming outside, disregard rules 3, 4, and 5. They will not be a concern during these types of weather conditions. Stay inside at all times. Do not use the men’s restroom and avoid going near it entirely if possible.
Rule 3: Sometime between 11 pm and 1 am, a young woman will walk out of the women’s restroom. She will enter the terminal and sit, occasionally getting up to walk around or change seats. Her name is Elizabeth. She will attempt to make conversation but you must not reciprocate. You may look at her, you may give nonverbal communication such as a head nod, you may write as a means of communication, or you may shake her hand but do not speak to her. If you refuse to speak to her, Elizabeth should be gone within a few hours. If you happen to make such a mistake, go to the men’s restroom and wait for her to leave.
Rule 4: At around one or two in the morning, a janitor in blue coveralls will arrive at the front entrance. Crack open the door and ask for his name. If he says his name is Simon, let him in. If he gives you any name other than Simon, shut the door and lock it without another word and walk away. If the janitor is Simon, he will attend to the janitorial needs of the airport. If he asks to clean where you are standing, oblige him. Simon will not interfere with your duties otherwise. He is not hostile or dangerous. You may engage in conversation with Simon. He will leave the same way he came when he feels it is necessary.
Rule 5: At around 3 am, you may notice that a black and red Cessna Skyhawk has landed on one of the airstrips. You will never see it land, and you will never see it take off. It will just appear when you’re not looking. After spotting the plane for the first time, do not look at it again. Avoid looking in its general direction if at all possible. There is a picture of the exact plane displayed inside the terminal, behind the counter.
Rule 6: Later in the night but sometime before dawn, a group of men claiming to be from TSA may arrive at the airport. They will have their own key and let themselves in. Some could be armed. Often, they exhibit panicked behavior. They may search through the airport, sweep room to room, and ask questions. They are permitted to search anywhere in the main airport building that they please, and you may oblige to any questioning but under no circumstances are they permitted to enter the sky bridge. They will not enter without verbal approval and they cannot harm you.
After reading over it a few times, I set the laminated sheet down and leaned back further into my seat before taking a long sip of coffee, wondering what on earth I had just read. I hadn’t taken James to be the imaginative type. Most of all, I hadn’t taken him to be anywhere near the unprofessional type. Though as I thought about it, it was unusual how rushed this all was and how he left in such a hurry, leaving so few details.
I began to wonder if I was being pranked, I considered that maybe this was all some sort of messed up joke or setup. I ruled that out pretty quickly. This was, in fact, a real airport. I had done plenty of research by the time I got here. At least a few real flights were coming in or going out each day. James has been working here for years and I couldn’t think of a reason why he would jeopardize his job or reputation just to get a scare out of me.
After chuckling to myself at the absurdity of my situation, I decided to indulge and see what would happen. Maybe it was a “test” for me as a new employee. Maybe James wanted to see if I could follow orders.
After glancing at the list once more and realizing the impact rule 2 had on the number of things I would have to keep track of, I brought up my phone to check the forecast. Clear skies, not a chance for rain or storms all night. Great, I thought to myself. I had to watch out for these Elizabeth and Simon characters to show up and I suppose “not” be on the lookout for a random plane to appear on the runway.
I stood up and grabbed my coffee, walking to the glass panes. I took another sip from my cup while admiring the lit runways along the airfield. It sure was a pretty nice sight. As I was raising my cup to finish what was left, I began to hear the click of shoes on the floor somewhere behind me.
Startled, I spun around abruptly, dropping my cup and spilling the remainder of the coffee in the process. At the other end of the terminal seating stood a young woman, around her mid-twenties in my estimation. She was holding two large leather suitcases in each hand and had an old-fashioned sense of style with a skirt and heels. Most surprising was her stunning beauty and welcoming smile.
“Oh I’m sorry dear, didn’t mean to scare you”
She expressed with a sincere tone. I opened my mouth, ready to assure her that everything was fine but I stopped myself. I recalled the list. At this point, I was certain that she was here at James’s request, a paid actor determined to make me break the rules. I was more determined not to. Instead, I simply fixed my posture, straightened my uniform, and looked back with a smile.
She walked to the counter where she placed her leather suitcases on the ground before closing the distance between us.
“Looks like we’ve got this fabulous airport all to ourselves. I am Elizabeth”
She said, reaching out her hand. I shook it, but she didn’t seem quite satisfied.
“And your name?”
I continued to smile and lock eye contact. Her grin grew for a moment before she remarked
“You don’t seem to be much of a talkative one”
And with that, she turned and started to walk away. I returned to my seat behind the counter, watching her closely as I did. Elizabeth proceeded to the unattended airport shop and after a couple of minutes of looking over magazine covers and occasionally taking a peek inside, she returned carrying a small stack of reading material. She approached my counter before placing a National Geographic magazine in front of me.
“I figured you might like this one. Enjoy”
She said, winking before settling on a seat in the first row of the terminal, straight across from where I had been sitting.
Remarkably, her intuition was spot on. I may have lived in cities all of my life but I loved nature, despite how little of it I had gotten to see. National Geographic was a favorite of mine, one I had been familiar with and enjoyed on work breaks from time to time. Rarely was I given this long to be able to read. I was almost tempted to break the rule and thank her for her rather thoughtful act, though I didn’t. I stuck to the rule.
The next couple of hours were uneventful. Elizabeth and I read through our magazines, occasionally looking up at each other to exchange glances and smiles. Within that time, she had attempted to get me to talk at least half a dozen more times. I almost gave in when she asked me if I wanted another magazine.
At a little past 1:30, I could hear a knock at the front entrance. Elizabeth and I both looked before she remarked
“Oh, that must be the nice cleaner man”
With a giggle before returning to her magazine. I walked over to the front doors and sure enough, there stood a man around his mid-thirties, sporting a blue janitor suit waiting patiently at the door. I unlocked the door and opened it. As he took a stride to enter, I remembered the most important detail from rule 4. I closed the door halfway and sternly commanded
“Wait”
The man looked up at me with a surprised look. I asked him the question.
“What is your name?”
The man stared back at me as an innocent smile formed on his face.
“I’m Simon!”
He announced excitedly.
“The Janitor here. Did James let you know I was coming tonight?”
I stood there for a moment, thinking over the rule, before nodding my head and opening the door once again to let him in.
Once inside, Simon walked with purpose to the janitor's closet which was positioned near the men’s restroom. I followed him somewhat suspiciously for the next few minutes as he began to clean but I eased up once I got the feeling that he was just the janitor around here and that James made up the whole “ask for his name thing” to make into one of his rules.
I returned to my counter in the terminal and continued to read. Occasionally, Simon would pass by, off to do his duties in some part of the airport or Elizabeth would stand up to look at the various pictures and paintings on display in the terminal. A good half an hour of this would go on before Simon approached the terminal counter with his mop in hand. He seemed to be eyeing up the two leather suitcases Elizabeth had set there.
Assuming he wanted to clean where they were, I got up to move them. I grabbed each one by the handle but failed to lift them off of the ground. Confused, I stepped back to see if they were stuck on something. They were not. Just two suitcases, left right where Elizabeth had set them.
I tried to lift just one. Again, I failed. I tried both hands, putting my back and legs into it with all that I had. It wouldn’t budge.
I looked back up at Simon who nodded his head in Elizabeth’s direction. I turned to look at Elizabeth, who after noticing my stare, and my apparent inability to move her luggage, smiled and stood up.
“Let me get that for you”
She insisted. With ease, she lifted both leather suitcases and moved them closer to her seat before lowering them, this time letting them drop a few inches. When they hit the ground, a boom echoed through the airport and I flinched in surprise. I looked back at Simon, who hadn’t seemed shocked at all. He just continued to mop.
I slowly made my way back to my seat, not taking an eye off Elizabeth for one second as I did. After a few minutes, she looked back up from her magazine, noticed my stare, and returned to her reading with a grin. She seemed to find my shock amusing. Eventually, Simon noticed my surprise as well. He paused his mopping and approached me before raising his head.
“I know, I know. Stick to the rules and everything will be just fine, trust me”
He stated quietly. I nodded my head in response.
Simon went back to his cleaning. A few minutes passed before Elizabeth had something new to say.
“What a remarkable aircraft!”
She exclaimed, looking out the glass panes facing the runways. I followed her gaze to the lone, black, and red airplane positioned on the runway. I turned around, looking at the picture displayed behind me. It certainly looked like a match. I turned back to the window and felt my heart sink. A silhouette of a person now stood next to the plane, facing the airport and the windows of the terminal.
“Stop looking at it”
Simon sternly muttered from behind me. I looked back at Simon who quickly cowered, seemingly ashamed to have raised his voice at me but I was grateful he had. I read over rule 5 again, specifically where it stated to not look at the plane twice. I murmured insults at myself under my breath but they didn’t have much room between my now heavy, frantic breathing. My eyes darted through the other rules. I chose to focus on that sheet of paper. At least it was something other to look at than the plane outside.
This went on for a good ten minutes or so and my breathing started to calm down. I had begun to pray in my head that whoever and whatever that was would go away when Elizabeth suddenly approached my counter. I snapped my head up in a jittery movement to make eye contact with her.
“I’m going to get some more reading material. Want another one of those?”
She asked, reaching a hand out to my National Geographic magazine. I looked up and nodded, forcing a smile. As She moved away, my gaze didn’t, and once again I found myself looking at the plane on the runway, the silhouette now standing hundreds of feet away from the plane, even closer to the building, and still staring in my direction.
Chills ran up my spine as I snapped my gaze back to my desk. I began to shake with fear and the manic breathing returned. Moments later, Elizabeth returned and placed a new magazine on the counter before running a hand over my shoulder, seemingly to comfort me. Simon then put his hand on my back.
“He’ll be gone soon and so will the plane. Just don’t look at it again”
He assured me.
“Mind if I clean here?”
He then asked.
I got up and walked to the end of the counter, watching Simon thoroughly clean the floor before I looked up and let out a soft
“Thank you”
He nodded and smiled back.
“What was that?”
Elizabeth asked. I turned towards her.
“Oh, I was just thanking Simon for-”
My error occurred to me before I could finish speaking. My eyes locked on Elizabeth as she stood up from her seat and her smile faded. Her eyes and nose began to bleed profusely as she started to sob, lightly at first, then hysterically. She let out a bellowing screech, a mix of pain and anger. She picked up one of her suitcases and hurled it at me, I barely dodged the ridiculously heavy object before it crashed into the wall behind me.
Luckily I was quick thinking this time and made a run for the men’s restroom recalling rule 3. She chased after me but I slammed the door shut in her face and locked it. Elizabeth pounded on the door with furious anger a few times but gave up quickly.
“So that’s how you dance, is it love? I can play that game”
She snickered before flipping a light switch outside of the bathroom. The clicking of her shoes faded away. A few minutes of silence passed before laughter started to become audible from the other side of the door.
One voice grew to two, two voices grew to three, three grew to ten. While others continued their now hysterical laughing, some began to scream. I crumbled to the floor, covering my ears as the voices went on, only stopped by another flip of the switch. Light beamed through the bottom of the door.
“It’s over now. She’s gone, and so is the plane. I’ve gotta be getting out of here soon”
Simon’s calm and friendly voice called out. I reluctantly exited the bathroom and followed him back to the counter, where he had prepared another coffee for me.
“Wish I could have done more there but you’ll come to find out that when Elizabeth gets angry, you just gotta let her do her thing”.
I looked up at him, still with my distraught face, at a loss for words. Over the next few minutes, Simon finished cleaning Elizabeth’s blood from the floor before putting everything back into the janitor's closet. He looked down at his watch.
“I better get out of here. Good luck with the rest of your night. I hope I’ll be seeing you soon”.
He said, letting out a sigh as he again looked at me in pity. I think he knew how shaken up I was. It was like he had seen people in my position before. Something told me he doesn’t have a choice on when he leaves. After I watched him exit the door, I returned to my seat behind the counter. I began to feel alone and afraid, but the loneliness wouldn’t last at least.
Only minutes after Simon left, the doors swung open and men in tactical gear, most of which had their faces covered in masks and goggles, rushed through the door. I sprung back up from my seat and watched as they did, with not much else I could do. They swept room to room, checking every nook and cranny at gunpoint, ignoring my existence at first.
As they cleared the entire building, the twenty or so armed men made their way to the terminal seating area. A lone man in a suit, whom I had not noticed enter, made his way to the front of the group.
“I’m with TSA, I’m going to need you to answer some questions for me”
He demanded. I nodded in affirmation.
“How many individuals have you seen in this airport since the security team left the building?”
“Besides myself, 2 Inside, one outside”
I answered confidently.
“Was the individual outside next to a black and red Cessna Skyhawk?”
“Yes”
I again responded confidently. The man in the suit nodded and paused for a moment before making another demand.
“We’re going to need to search the air bridge”.
I glanced back at the sheet of rules on the counter. Making sure I had read it right before. I took a step forward and straightened my uniform.
“No”
I replied. The man in the suit looked irritated.
“If you do not step aside and give us permission to search, I’m afraid I’ll have to detain you”.
Already tired and worn out, I wasn’t going to break the last rule. I decided to give a not-so-smart remark to the man in the suit
“Looking a little well-armed for TSA, wouldn’t you agree?”
He ignored my comment.
“Last chance, step aside”
“No”
Again, irritated by my response, the man in the suit turned to his right and raised his chin to give a signal. Gunshots rang out and I collapsed to the floor. I felt as though my life left my body before it all faded to black.
The next thing I remembered was the feeling of my hand gripping a water bottle. Then came James’s voice.
“I see you made it through the first night intact. Looks like you got to meet Simon. He’s a nice guy, you’ll get to like him. And Elizabeth, she’s…well, she’s something else, isn’t she?”
I opened my eyes and looked up at James.
“Am I dead?”
I asked in a raspy voice. James chuckled in return.
“No! No, you did great. You’re fine. It does, however, look like you might have been a little assertive to our undead TSA special forces wannabes. I would recommend sticking with the less aggressive tone and word choices, maybe I ought to edit that into the rules sheet… In any case, they can’t hurt you but they can still get a jump out of you, as you saw”.
Once again, I was at a loss for words. I slowly made my way back to my feet from the ground and looked at the sunrise over the airfield. James held out an envelope for me. I opened it, revealing a stack of crisp $100 bills.
“A little bonus for your first night. It sure is a lot to go through for the first time but I promise, you get used to it all”.
I turned to James with an angry look and finally spoke up.
“What the hell is wrong with you? What makes you think it’s okay to put someone through this without any warning? I'm done, keep your damn money. I’m gonna go call the cops”.
I started to walk towards the exit when James stepped in front of me.
“Look, I know it isn’t fair for you but it wasn’t fair for me either. It wasn’t fair for any of us. It’s not okay, I know. But what do you expect me to do? Someone needs to be here for the night shift. You wouldn’t believe any of this if I told you ahead of time. You would have thought I was some sort of nutjob and the police will think of you the same if you tell them. I needed you to see it for yourself”
James was starting to get worked up and stoppeto breatheth before continuing.
“This money is yours, no strings attached. You’re free to leave now and never come back, there will be no shame in it”
I also started to calm down but I couldn’t bring myself to look James in the eye yet.
“If you choose to stay, I’ll see you in my office to finish up your paperwork”.
And with that, James walked away. Facing the front of the airport, I watched the first passengers of the day come through the entrance. I just stood there for a few minutes. Whether I was ready for this job or not, I knew right then I sure as hell wasn’t going back to another overcrowded city airport.
I turned and headed for James’s office.

2023.06.04 21:43 Large-Gear-5285 Fuzzy mold in AC unit?

I was cleaning the inside of my air conditioner (window unit), and there is a fuzzy substance on the some of the styrofoam. As you can see below, the black styrofoam has a black / dark brown substance on it that scraped off easily when I touched it with a screwdriver.
Mold? Or some weird accumulation of dirt/dust and possible breakdown of styrofoam or something?
Thanks a ton for any advice!

2023.06.04 21:41 Raynor2me Here’s a new one - “Remember me…”

Just came back from PDC where I can say I had an absolutely fantastic time. Stayed at the Hilton Adults All-Inclusive. It was my first time doing anything like this as I’m more of an “AirBnB and explore the area” type person, but wife really wanted me to try it out so we did. I did go out and explore the area by myself a couple times but just to go to Soriana and Fogón.
Naturally, we checked out La Quinta on the 2nd day. I read all the heads up about the way vendors swarm you or grab your attention so I felt prepared, but one thing that caught me off guard was “Hey! Remember me?! Hilton! persons name here!”
Happened three times, 1st time it worked and dude caught my attention and we chatted some as I just kept walking, then I heard another vendor pull the same play on another couple and that‘s how I knew it was a strategy to get your attention.
I’m not sure how they knew where we were staying, but gotta be cause of the resort bands, right?
Not keeping me from ever going back, but wanted to share for those who visit and just to be aware.

2023.06.04 21:31 No_Government01 Mechanical window AC vs digital?

How do these 2 types of conditioners differ in terms of how the thermostat works? On my digital one, under the right conditions, will cool 2 degrees below the set temp.
My mechanical one has a dial for high cool through low cool and a dial for the thermostat as well. Does the thermostat work same a digital one? Like will it stop blowing cold air when it reaches a certain temp like a digital one?

2023.06.04 21:27 The_GM_Rides_Again Which TNG episodes are particularly well-suited to conversion into RPG (e.g., D&D) adventure scenarios?

I've been rewatching the series for the first time since it originally aired when I was a small child, and it occurs to me that (like many other TV shows) TNG is rich foddeinspiration for creating adventures for tabletop role-playing game across a wide range of genres.
For example, I just finished "Sins of the Father," and it occurs to me that it would make an excellent scenario for GMs and players who enjoyed the "political intrigue" adventure genre; it could be easily adapted to any setting featuring a "warrior culture" trope. In the exploration, and mystery adventure genres, "The Arsenal of Freedom" has a number of features (beyond just the story concept) that are absolutely perfect for an adventure in a setting with at least one "lost civilization." Et cetera, et cetera. So,...
Which TNG episodes do you think lend themselves particularly well to being adapted into adventures for TTRPGs in the sci-fi, or other genres as well?
I'd prefer to keep the focus on TNG as, a) it's the sub we're in, and b) I'm a ways away from watching the other shows, but if you have any particularly good suggestions from other parts of the franchise, feel free to share them. Lastly, since it's not possible I'm the first person to have had this idea, if anybody reading this post has done this very thing already, I'd really love it if you shared your experiences.
Thank you very much.

2023.06.04 21:19 Dogettt [M4F] Overwatch: A Multitude Of Roleplays!

Hello, all! I've recently become obsessed with the lore of Overwatch and, considering the news about the PvE, have been wanting to explore the world more! So, I've compiled a list of plots that migjt capture a potential roleplay partner's interest! If none of them do and you'd like to do an Overwatch roleplay, we can always work to come up with one together!
The majority of these plots are Canon X OC, with you playing the Canon character, but a few are Canon X Canon! These plots all include action and combat and such, as well as romantic or platonic mother-son/father-daughter relationships. Now, the plots!
RECALL
After Winston recalls Overwatchs despite the illegality thereof, the first agent to answer is Tracer and, a new agent, Mei. However, a fourth hero joins them on their journey. Having witnessed the fall of Overwatch when he was too young to understand, he's eager to join these heroes and fight beside them. This roleplay would simply explore the journey of this new hero and a romantic interest of your choice, be it the energetic Tracer or the calm and collected Mercy.
HONOUR AND GLORY
Reinhardt Wilhelm is a veteran of the first Omnic Crisis, having fought in Germany's Crusader unit until he joined Overwatch. As a protector, his main goal is to look after and defend innocents and his friends, especially his squire, Brigitte Lindholm, who happens to be the daughter of one of his former colleagues. This roleplay would center around the time the two spent travelling Europe and adventuring. It is up to you, though, to decide: will Brigitte catch feelings for her mentor, or will Reinhardt become like a father to her?
PAYING HER DEBTS
As the leader of the Deadlock Gang, Elizabeth Caledonia 'Calamity' Ashe is a force to be reckoned with. Like her ex-partner-in-crime, Cole Cassidy, though, her run-ins with the law leads to her being captured by Overwatch. An ultimatum is given: rot in jail or fight for the world's freedom. She'd probably choose the latter, but what she won't know until it's too late is that she will be appointed a sort of... well, there's no fancy way to say this: she'll have to adopt a child orphaned by one of her many crimes. Perhaps redemption is possible....
OUT OF THE FRYING PAN AND INTO OVERWATCH
Excuse the pun, please. Sombra - or as her parents called her, Olivia Colomar - has joined forces with Talon. While this might make one assume that she's an unsavoury character, it becomes obvious that she simply uses it as a way to gain information and power. She's protective of those who are innocent, but is she willing to give up her ties with Talon to save a group of people headed to Moira's laboratory for experiments? This roleplay would center around her and one of these prisoners developing a plan to escape Talon's clutches and flee to Overwatch.
HEROES NEVER DIE
Doctor Angela Ziegler is a hero amongst heroes. Caring, compassionate and empathetic, she's been helping anyone and anything she can after Overwatch's banishment. Feeling guilty for the role she played in the passing of the PETRAS act by testifying against the organisation, she jumps at the chance to come back and aid them in their fight against Talon and Null Sector. One of her first missions, though, aftet saving Paris, had her performing field surgery on a police officer who was injured during the fighting. In the many years that passed since the fall of the organisation, many of the agents refuse to return. Seems like this officer could be of some use...
These are just a few ideas!
Characters I would like you to play: Lena Oxton - Tracer Brigitte Lindholm Angela Ziegler - Mercy Amelieé Lacroix - Widowmaker Elizabeth Caledonia 'Calamity' Ashe Hana Song - D.Va Fareeha Amari - Pharah Olivia Colomar - Sombra Kiriko Yamagami
I hope to hear from you!
