2023.06.04 22:28 MaybeThrowaway10 [A4A] The troubles with technology
Tech based characters in a superpowered/magical setting—be they mad scientists, genius inventors, disgruntled engineers, or something in between—always seem to be close to the top. Maybe their gadgetry enhances existing powers, maybe it stands on its own, but regardless, the judicious application of missiles and unobtanium reactors seems to work rather well for the lot.
I present an alternative, the other side of technology, where magic isn’t poorly understood science, but so far above it that those ants scurrying around with their poor substitutes stand no chance. To explore that, I offer two scenarios! To be clear, in both I’ll be playing the poor tech reliant sap who is out of their depth!~
- Tech based superheroes:
Josephine slams against the wall, groaning in tandem with the metallic reinforcement within her suit. She slides to the ground, sparks flying freely from a severed wire in her left arm, grounding itself to a piece of metal scrap. She’s damaged, and something feels broken, but not out of the fight yet. She can’t fail here, not after so much work, countless hours of tinkering cannot come to naught. A quick turn of her head, and the internal targeting system gains a lock on her opponent. Data instantly transmitted to a support drone whirling around her.
The cannon mounted beneath it turns to the target, a soft hiss sounding out as the weapon opens its chamber and prepares to fire. Despite the blood trickling from the corner of her mouth, Josephine grins. The drone mounts a light gas gun of her own design, perfectly suited to the occasion, far more powerful than conventional weaponry, there’s no chance in hell that it would—
The explosion cuts off her train of thought. Her target waves their hand absentmindedly, and the drone’s weapon violently detonates, sending it scattering in flaming wreckage around the street. The target vanishes, before Josephine can feel the emergency release valve on her powered armor trigger. She’s yanked out, tossed to the hard concrete, and a boot is planted firmly on her chest. Her foe looms over the girl. She looks so…small, without her equipment and armor. So vulnerable. Surely, they can put her to better use than this charade~
- The artificer:
Janek crept through the underbrush, the massive boiler strapped to his back doing nothing for the young man’s stealth. Not that he ever had much of a hope that he would be sneaky, not with the clinking of the carabiners and tubing bumping against each other every 5 seconds. Even him and his ego had to admit, there were more elegant solutions to his particular conundrum. But it was a damn effective one, and he was more than proud of his invention.
The wild boars proved no match for his latest killing machine, even with their thick skulls and tusks. So Janek went in search for ever greater prey, thinning the predator population of the nearby forest quite considerably. And now it was time for the ultimate challenge, a real life field test against the most dangerous foes he could find in the forest! The magically inclined who made their home there, terrorizing settlements and caravans alike with their awe inspiring spells. But they would be no match for the likes of Janek Straka! He was practically trembling with excitement, readjusting his glasses and inspecting his choice in weapon once again.
A sort of rifle, one which had all the trappings of the basic prototypes you might see in a Kingdom’s armory, but with his own tweaks. A magazine holding long iron spikes was fastened to the top, in front of a series of rubber tubing which led back to a valve assembly on the boiler he was wearing as a backpack. A massive chamber of boiling water which, with the pull of a trigger, would flood the weapon with steam and send deadly spikes slamming through whatever was on the other end.
It did not take much longer for him to find his quarry. For they were strutting towards him, rather confidently. Through the dim light let in by the trees, he couldn’t quite make out who it was. The Elven warrior, a proud individual who had practiced magic longer than Janek had been alive? The necromancer, who wasn’t nearly as frail as her undead legions? Or maybe the local Vampire had finally made an appearance, a monster that even Janek had to admit hadn’t lost their allure over the centuries. Oh well, it wouldn’t matter in a few seconds. Janek shoulders his steam-rifle, takes careful aim, gently squeezes the trigger and…only hears a short hiss. A low chuckle comes from his opponent as they keep walking towards him
“Your weapon. I’m not familiar with it, but I can sense it needed fire to work? Someone of your alleged intellect should’ve known that pyromancy is one of the easiest magicks known to man. Snuffing out was child’s play”
Janek stammered together a reply, flipping open the boiler cover to find that the charcoal had gone out “Aha, very clever of you! B-But you are mistaken, I meant you no harm! Perhaps, perhaps we can talk things out?”
His ‘prey’ just smiles, shakes their head in response, and in a flash they are upon the poor artificer
I hope you liked the prompt! I tried to go for a balance there, with both modern/superhero ideas and a fantasy concept thrown in for fun. If you found any part of it interesting, or even if you had your own idea related to the concept, feel free to PM me!

2023.06.04 22:26 fluidZ1a How to best tailor my app for PsyD programs.
Hey everyone, I'm interested in Clinical / Counseling PsyD programs, I may toss my name in the hat for some PhD programs but my research interests are very specific.
I have research experience and have worked in two labs, though one was for microbiology (with posters). Word is still out on how productive the psych lab i'm in now is goign to be. I'm really hoping that my clinical experience will carry through the PsyD application.
Specifically, I have thousands of hours working at inpatient psych ward (peds and adult). Thousands of hours working as a patient care tech (one patient, home clinic). And will be bumping a thousand hours (five years) of volunteering at various crisis lines.
I have a lot of other various ECs and volunteer experience, work experience (I'm old). Tutoring, local volunteering, leading groups, managing businesses, mentoring youth/young adults, etc.
I'm hoping to maintain my 3.9+ gpa and do well on the GRE, and hopefully get a psych related poster / pub but I'm really way more focused on clinical work and it shows in my activities.
It's hard to find any good info on pre-PsyD stuff, especially from people who actually work at the institutions at admissions.
Any help is appreciated!

2023.06.04 22:19 BuyWonderful Don’t bother with the I-told-you-so, okay?
So like, before you even start, don’t bother with the I-told-you-so, okay?
I know it’s stupid hitchhiking but man, have you seen the price of petrol? Plus, it wasn’t like I was being stupid. I wasn’t going to accept a ride from some scary bloke. But an old lady? Well, why would it hurt?
Nora noticed the young lady standing lonely on the side of the highway. Dirty blonde hair, worn in converses, a backpack slung low over one shoulder.
She didn’t usually pick up hitchhikers, she knew how dangerous it could be. Especially for a woman in her late 70s. But a young lady, one who looked so lost and sad? Well, she would make an exception.
It had been such a very long time since she had stopped for someone on the side of the road.
Of course I accepted. She looked so sweet!! Grey, curly hair, big thick glasses. She looked like any Nana I’d ever seen on TV. She didn’t pester me with questions, which was good. Instead, she asked if she could tell me a story.
It was a story Nora hadn’t told for a while, though she still remembered it word for word. It was one of those things, something that was so ingrained in her very being, she simply couldn’t forget it.
I listened not even half heartedly, staring out the window and daydreaming instead, as we drove on. It wasn’t until I finally noticed the silence in the car, that I also noticed my changes. My hands – wrinkled, blotched with age spots. I reach up to touch my face and realise something else is missing – my long hair, it’s gone, replaced by what feels like steel wool atop of my head. I pull down the passenger side mirror, take a look at the old woman staring back at me, through milky, cataract filled eyes. I open my mouth to scream, my jaw cracking, dentures sliding about.
Next to me, I hear a long, soft and satisfied sigh. Like someone who had just devoured a delicious meal.
I see Nora, see her long blonde hair, the smooth skin on her face. She glances at me, smiles sadly. “Thanks for accepting my ride, honey.”
She drops me off at the mall, and with no where to go, I wander. An old woman, frail, confused. Another face in the sea of a thousand people. Eventually I am taken into a nursing home, where I’m kept against my own will.
No one believes me when I tell them what happened, they call it dementia, they called it old age, so now I’ve just stopped trying.
Im fixing a plan to escape this place, I’m not getting any younger, I gotta do what I can, I don’t wanna be stuck like this forever, man. I’m just hoping to hitch another ride, maybe I can fix this fuck up somehow.

2023.06.04 22:11 chug-a-lug-donna grammy test
Hello, and welcome to Music’s Biggest Night!
That’s right, it’s the GRAMMYs. The year is 1994 and our category is Best Alternative Music Album. We’ll be rating each of the five nominees on Indieheads, but before we get to the nominees, a quick word about rates.
Hey, quick question, what are rates?
Obviously, if you're familiar with the process, skip this. But if you're new, I'll explain so this doesn't seem like a wild block of text!
Rates are a subreddit game in which a user scores a group of songs on a scale from 1-10, with each individual also given a single 11 and a single 0 to be used exactly once per rate. They will then message their ballot to the rate host, who will tally up all the points and then reveal the final results over a weekend, eliminating songs one by one until the last track remaining wins the rate and bragging rights forever. While there's just a bit more to know, I feel this is the basics of what you'll need to understand what's going on. I do recommend this video made by our popheads brethren to get a fuller picture; while some of the info applies specifically to the way popheads do their rates, the overall format is similar.
Introduction
The GRAMMYs are awards presented by The Recording Academy of the United States to recognize outstanding achievements in the music industry. The name derives from the trophy, which is shaped like an old-fashioned gramophone. The awards celebrate a variety of categories, but we’re going to be looking at Best Alternative Music Album or, as it was called at the time, Best Alternative Music Performance. The question of what “alternative” really means can be debated forever, but the original intent of this award was to celebrate non-mainstream rock albums which were heavily played on college radio. The category first appeared in 1991, so in 1994 the award is still pretty new.
And now, let’s meet our nominees!
Belly - Star
Belly are the act here that seem discussed least frequently on Indieheads, so I’m excited to see what everyone thinks of them. By the time of starting Belly, Tanya Donelly (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) had already been in two other classic indie rock bands. She was a co-founder of Throwing Muses with her step-sister Kristin Hersch, contributing vocals and guitar for the band’s first decade, though she’d only get a handful of songs per album. Donelly would later start The Breeders with Pixies bassist and vocalist Kim Deal. The Breeders’ debut, Pod, featured Deal as the primary songwriter because existing record contracts prohibited the two from sharing primary writing credits. While they originally intended to alternate albums, Tanya had begun to form Belly by the time it was her turn to do a Breeders album. She recruited Fred Abong (bass) and brothers Tom (guitar) and Chris (drums) Gorman as they’d all known each other while going to high school in Rhode Island.
Belly co-produced most of their 1993 debut Star with Tracy Chisholm. Gil Norton, who’d previously produced Throwing Muses’ self-titled debut, produced four tracks, including singles "Gepetto," "Slow Dog," and "Feed the Tree." "Feed the Tree," one of the album’s highlights, would be the band’s highest charting hit, reaching 95th on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Modern Rock Chart. Star is an effective fusion of alternative rock with jangle pop, dream pop, "haunting" folk, and even some light country influences. At the 1994 GRAMMYs, Belly were also up for Best New Artist with Blind Melon, Digable Planets, and SWV, ultimately losing to R&B singer Toni Braxton. Belly released a sophomore album King in 1995 and Donelly released several solo albums before reuniting with the King lineup to release a third album in 2018. While Star may not have achieved the canonical stature of some of 1994’s other nominees, it is nevertheless a very enjoyable release from a strong songwriter who’d finally gotten the chance to make an album-length statement of her own.
Are Indieheads gonna feed the tree? Will this be an album to die for?

Nirvana - In Utero If you were wondering where “Heart Shaped Box” was in the Guitar Hero Rate, well I’ve got a treat for you!
Kurt Cobain (vocals and guitar) and Krist Novoselic (bass) met while attending Aberdeen High School in the late 1980s. They shuffled through various names, ultimately deciding on Nirvana because Cobain wanted a name that sounded beautiful and nice instead of mean and raunchy. In their early years, they worked with several different drummers, recording 1989’s Sub Pop debut Bleach with Chad Channing on drums. Channing left the band as they worked on their follow-up to Bleach. Kurt and Krist met drummer Dave Grohl days after he’d moved to Seattle following the break up of his Washington DC band Scream. The addition of Dave solidified Nirvana’s classic lineup. The trio began seeking a major label to buy them out of their Sub Pop contract as they were dissatisfied with the label’s lack of promotion and distribution of their debut. They eventually signed with DGC Records per the recommendation of Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. Upon signing, they began work on their major label debut, Nevermind, with producer Butch Vig. 1991’s Nevermind was an unexpected success, bringing grunge and alternative rock to the mainstream and even surpassing Michael Jackson on the Billboard albums chart.
In the aftermath of Nevermind’s success, Cobain felt he needed to reclaim his punk ethic. Wanting to depart from Butch Vig’s slick production on Nevermind (don’t worry, we’ll still be hearing from Vig a little later), he sought to work with Steve Albini. Albini was pretty famous in the underground for his work as frontman for Big Black and various production work, including PJ Harvey’s Dry, which he sent a copy of to give Cobain an idea of the acoustics in his studio. Albini dismissed Nirvana as "R.E.M. with a fuzzbox" (more on R.E.M. soon!) but decided to work with them because he felt bad for them, recognizing them as "the same sort of people as all the small-fry bands I deal with." The band pushed for minimal label oversight and recorded In Utero fairly quickly, wrapping recording sessions in as little as 13 days. The album was noisier and more abrasive than Nevermind, resulting in much dispute between the band, Albini, and the label. Cobain sought to make the kind of record he’d enjoy owning as a fan and began having second thoughts about the sound when listening to it at home. The press picked up on conflict about the album’s sound. The band denied this and even DGC president David Geffen called Newsweek to explain they would release whatever Nirvana recorded. Behind the scenes, the band tried to fix the album’s sound in the mastering process, which Albini was strongly against, though he’d later supply an alternate mix for the album’s 20th anniversary re-release. R.E.M producer Scott Litt was brought on to remix “Heart Shaped Box” and “All Apologies” which were intended to be the album’s singles.
In Utero was released in September of 1993 following a low-key release strategy which released “Heart Shaped Box” as a promo-only single to various rock station formats but not Top 40. Walmart and K-Mart initially refused to stock the album due to its back cover and the title of the song “Rape Me.” (A content note on that song, while it is interpreted as commentary on the invasive music press, it was intended to be a lyrically literal anti-rape song from the perspective of a victim. As this is a rate, you can score this song however you see fit, but I hope it goes without saying that everyone should please be respectful of this subject matter in their comments.) Despite In Utero’s abrasive sound and reduced mainstream promotion, the album still debuted at number one on the Billboard album charts and was well-received by critics. The music often hits harder and faster than Nevermind, containing more of the “punk” feel that Cobain was aiming for compared to the grunge of Nevermind and the band’s Seattle contemporaries. Check out this MTV clip if you’d like to see how college students in 1993 received this one. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiwhwy7S4qA) The band toured America shortly after In Utero came out and embarked on a European tour that was cut short as Cobain suffered from a drug overdose. A couple weeks later, Cobain died by suicide. As with the subject matter of “Rape Me,” I want to request that everyone is respectful of this in their comments, I will ask for edits (or omit comments myself) if they are inappropriate. Despite the tragic ending, Nirvana is still seen as one of American and alternative rock’s most important bands and In Utero remains highly regarded to this day.
Will our comments be all apologies? Are the results of this rate gonna be, uhhh, dumb?

R.E.M. - Automatic for the People If there’s a band who can rival Nirvana’s stature in the American rock canon, it’s gotta be R.E.M. They are often cited as one of the first “alternative” rock bands and were important for the college radio format. Formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980, Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass), and Bill Berry (drums) released 5 albums with independent label I.R.S. Records, evolving from a jangle rock sound on their early albums to a louder, more anthemic sound on their final record for the label, Document. After “The One I Love” became their first mainstream hit, the band signed to Warner Brothers, kicking off a second act that resulted in yet another 5 album run of great music.
At the start of the 90s, R.E.M. opted out of touring and became a studio band. The band recorded demos for the songs “Drive,” “Try Not to Breathe,” and “Nightswimming” at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios while mixing their 1991 album, Out of Time. Out of Time was a huge success, arriving as alternative rock was becoming mainstream. It spawned the massive single “Losing My Religion” and even ended up winning the GRAMMY award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1992. After concluding some promotional duties in early 1991, the band returned to the studio to continue work on what would eventually become Automatic for the People. This would be the fourth of six records the band would produce with Litt. The band traded off instruments in the studio, with Buck playing the mandolin famously featured on “Losing My Religion,” Mills playing piano or organ, and Berry playing bass. Their initial attempts to make a harder rocking follow-up did not pan out, as the band found they were writing better without drums. The material began to take on a more melancholic tone. The lush orchestration of Out of Time is rendered in a somber greyscale, with arrangements contributed by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. Lyrically, the album muses on loss and mourning, prompting rumors that recently balding Michael Stipe was dying of cancer or AIDs. Luckily, he was not but that is the lens through which some critics and listeners received this work. The album also finds room for political commentary, most noticeably in “Ignoreland” which pushes against Republican politics of the time, but also in opener “Drive” which calls back to the group’s work with the Rock to Vote movement, for which they added a petition on the longbox packaging of Out of Time.
Automatic for the People released on October 5, 1992 (gotta love the GRAMMYs odd eligibility window) debuting at number 2 on the Billboard 200. Unlike its predecessor, it never quite reached the top spot, thanks to Garth Brooks. Six of the album’s 12 tracks were released as singles including “Drive,” “Everybody Hurts” which has unfortunately been watered down through years of ironic use in comedies, the cryptic, Andy Kaufman referencing “Man on the Moon,” and “Nightswimming,” an emotional piano ballad that has become a fan favorite. The album was critically acclaimed upon release and, while perhaps not as fun as something like Murmur, this nocturnal bummer is regarded by many as one of the band’s masterpieces.

Tracklist: Drive Try Not to Breathe The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite Everybody Hurts New Orleans Instrumental No. 1 Sweetness Follows Monty Got a Raw Deal Ignoreland Star Me Kitten Man on the Moon Nightswimming Find the River
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream The Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988 when Billy Corgan (vocals and guitar, he prefers William Patrick Corgan now though) met James Iha (guitar) while working at a record store in Chicago, Illinois. They performed as a duo with a drum machine, eventually adding bassist D’arcy Wretzky after meeting her at a show by the Dan Reed Network. Jazz drummer Jimmy Chamberlain was recommended by a friend of Corgan’s after the trio were booked to perform at Cabaret Metro under the condition that they’d play with a live drummer instead of their drum machine. With Chamberlain on board, the band’s classic lineup had been formed and their sound began to shift in a harder rock direction.
Siamese Dream, the group’s 1993 sophomore album, expands on their 1991 debut Gish in every possible way. The band switched from Virgin subsidiary Caroline Records to Virgin itself. Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana’s massive Nevermind right after finishing work on Gish, returned to produce the follow-up. Where Gish’s $20,000 budget and month of recording time was “unprecedented” for Vig, Corgan and Vig spent four months on Siamese Dream and went $250,000 over budget. This is what happens when you let Billy overdub everyone else’s guitar and bass parts (something the rest of the band wasn’t particularly happy about) to get as many as 100 guitar parts compressed into one song.
The meticulous studio process paid off, as Siamese Dream was a bigger hit than Gish (peaking at 10 on the Billboard 200.) The band’s influences from metal, dreampop, and shoegaze give the album a layered and unique sound compared to the grungier alternative music of the time. Singles “Cherub Rock” and “Today” have been featured in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band videogame series. While never released as a single, “Mayonaise” has become a fan favorite and won a Rolling Stone poll for best Pumpkins song, beating out singles from Siamese Dream and the band’s follow-up double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Judging from some early discussion since this rate was announced, some of you seem pretty excited to rate “Mayonnaise.” While Mellon Collie took the band to the height of their popularity, Siamese Dream is often regarded as their masterpiece and one of the best rock albums of the 90s.

U2 - Zooropa Formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1976, U2 (Bono on vocals, The Edge on guitar, Adam Clayton on bass, and Larry Mullen Jr. on drums) have become the top-selling Irish musical act of all-time, with an estimated 170+ million records sold. Across the 80s, U2 evolved their early post-punk sound to the anthemic rock of The Joshua Tree. While touring America for that album, the band recorded Rattle and Hum, a hybrid live/studio record (and accompanying concert film) which documented the tour and the group’s fascination with American roots music. Despite the album’s commercial success, most consider it a misguided failure. Even Bono admitted at their final show for the album’s Lovetown Tour that “we have to go away and dream it all up again.”
1993’s Zooropa catches U2 at their most adventurous. 1991’s Acthung Baby and its subsequent Zoo TV tour rebranded the band for the new decade. While they continued working with Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, they updated their sound with influences from electronic, dance, and industrial music. On stage, they dabbled in irony to counter the sincerity of their 80s output with Bono playing characters such as The Fly and Macphisto. Emboldened by the critical and commercial success of this album and tour, they began working on a promotional EP during a break between Zoo TV tour legs. Despite working quickly in the studio, this EP expanded into a full-length album, requiring the band to travel between concerts and the studio in Dublin to finish working on the album during the first month of the “Zooropa” leg.
Zooropa finally arrived in July of 1993 and it shows the band doubling down on their early 90s ideas. The sound of the album, built from loops of soundcheck jamming and leftover sketches from Achtung Baby, ventures even further from traditional rock instrumentation and songwriting, bolstered by production from Brian Eno, Flood (moving from an engineering to production role), and The Edge, credited as a producer for his first time. The fragmented nature of the album’s production is reflected in the eclectic tracklist which bounces between the multi-movement art-rock of the title track, dancefloor fillers like “Daddy’s Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car,” and ballads like “For the First Time” and “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” Unique vocal choices like The Edge’s spoken-word rapping on lead-single “Numb,” Bono’s falsetto on “Lemon,” and a Johnny Cash feature on closer “The Wanderer” help the album feel more varied than U2’s previous material. The album’s lyrics often examine Zoo TV’s concepts of “sensory overload” and technology more explicitly than Achtung Baby.
While U2 are reluctant to acknowledge Zooropa now (likely influenced by the failure of 1997’s Pop, a rushed, mixed bag of an album that stretched audience’s tolerance for 90s U2’s tendency toward electronic music and irony to a Rattle and Hum-like breaking point) the album was successful when it came out. Zooropa debuted at number one in several countries and finished ninth on 1993’s Pazz and Jop poll. It would also go on to win this GRAMMY award for Best Alternative Music album, with Bono shrugging on stage, shouting out Smashing Pumpkins, and promising to “the young people of America” that they will “continue to abuse our position and fuck up the mainstream” in his acceptance speech. (https://youtu.be/-DNXfFy8Ido?t=69)
Will U2 stay the champions in our rate or will they be faraway so close to the top?

2023.06.04 22:03 Elated_Creative609 Why do I feel so numb when I realize my husband won’t attempt nonmonogamy?
I (43F) have been with my (45M) husband for over 27 years. Together since 1995 (I was15) and married 22 yrs. He was not my first but I was sexual very young. We split when I was 20 and I was with one other man for a few months.
We love each other. We are a great team. We are both very attracted to one another, have tons of fun together, and we are very intimate in and out of the br. Much of our marriage was difficult. He travelled a lot for work and I was a SAHM. He was a bad alcoholic when he was actually home but he was an amazing provider and a truly good man. He just kind of was a bad husband and father. He put us first by taking care of us financially but he had anxieties and other demons he wouldn’t deal with which led him to just not being a part of the family, and when he was it wasn’t healthy for any of us. It was hard feeling like a single mom. It was hard how his actions made me feel like I wasn’t enough no matter what I did. As far as household I did 100% housework, raised/disciplined kids (health, school, sports) my parents were also very helpful so I wasn’t completely on my own it was just all my responsibility to deal with it), I took care of all bills and where finances went, all shopping and anything else that made a family and home work besides making the money. I did manage to earn a little to help with stuff and contribute financially sometimes.
End of 2019 to beginning 2020 a ton of things changed. He came off the road and started a business minutes from home. Way less stress for him and more time for everything in general. I turned 40, our oldest moved out, the youngest soon got her license and needed me less. I had already been working part time for close to a year at this point. My main identity wasn’t just mom any longer. At first it was difficult to get him to do much now that he was home. He wouldn’t go to therapy or try medication for anxiety. I finally asked if we could open the relationship so I could find others to do more with me. He did a huge 360°. He did a little therapy and tried some meds. He started picking me wild flower bouquets on way home from work. He would tell me how beautiful and sexy I was and started helping a ton around the home. We do tons of fun stuff together and just simply enjoy each other more than we ever have. He has been working on his relationship with our girls too. He’s wonderful and perfect and I love him and how he treats me now
I still want an open relationship. Our entire life together I have always gotten crushes on others but just focused on being wife/mom. I connect super easily with people just in general. I always maintain close, family like level, friendships. I genuinely love people and the ways I bring something new to their lives and they mine. I learn something new about myself with each friendship/relationship. I’m also very sexual and want to explore with others but it’s truly not just about sex. Over the last few years when I felt he was trying to Understand me and working through it all it made me soooo hot for him. Sexually and I just wanted to make him happy more so than usual in an way possible. I’ve been open with him and friends about my wants. I’m a very open person in general. When I feel like he wants to allow me this trust and freedom I feel so alive, flirty, sexy, powerful, and appreciative of him. When talks go bad and I realize this is never going to happen I feel numb and broken. I feel like a flame inside me has been blown out. I seriously question possibly leaving what I consider to be an amazing marriage, a good, kind, loving man, and a future growing old together. Then, I feel ridiculous that I would throw that away over what I want…..but then I realize how empty I feel over the thought of never being intimate with anyone ever again. Sexually I have opened up in so many ways after being honest with my husband and my self esteem has sky rocketed. I feel more me.
Why do I feel like a very important part of me disappears when the reality hits me that I will never be able to explore nonmonagmy?

2023.06.04 21:58 Schlachterhund Climate activism of the elect
[This is a translated excerpt from Clemens Traub’s “Future for Fridays?”. It’s a reflection about his time as an activist in “Fridays for Future” – the German branch of “School Strike for Climate”. The specific problems of western environmentalism adressed therein is germane to the issue of dysfunctional leftism often discussed on stupidpol and as far as I can tell nothing of this unique to Germany. The book is from 2020 and by now the movement “Fridays for Future” basically defunct. Meanwhile, the preferred tactic of current activists is it to glue themselves on main roads during rush hour. This protest method obviously affects working class people most, who usually have to physically show up at work (and often have to use cars to do so), and is less disruptive for the WFH email caste. The result of this is, surprisingly, a staggering 80+% disapproval rating for the climate organization “Last Generation” which is doing this.]
------------------------------
I know the typical milieu of most “Fridays for Future” protesters well. In a way, it's my own and that of my current circle of friends: metropolitan, left-liberal, hip. A space for the daughters of doctors to meet the sons of lawyers. Gin tasting and discussions about plastic-free shopping and zero waste are equally high on the agenda. Veganism is as much part of the unspoken code of being trendy as frequenting second-hand shops. And the organic grocery store around the corner naturally enhances the location of your own home.
The offspring of the professional class keep to themselves. Does the climate movement represent a cross-section of society? Not even close! Fridays for Future is the rebellion of the privileged, and the movement offers them the perfect opportunity to flaunt their own cosmopolitan lifestyle and talent.
Many of my climate-concerned friends are questioning whether the social background of the demonstrators matters at all. Isn't that absolutely unimportant? The main thing, they are convinced, is that the earth is saved. It doesn't matter by whom. The population has been silent for long enough, and now it is finally time to stand up.
I admit that the consistency of this chain of thought was extremely appealing to me and that using social origin as an argument against a group is of course nonsensical. The outlined combative spirit also enthralled me at first. At the beginning of my participation in "Fridays for Future", saving the world was the only thing that counted for me. It didn’t matter who stood by my side. And it still wouldn’t matter for me today.
But what matters to me is the behavior and reasoning of the people protesting with me. And here the circle closes, because the social background reveals more about the movement than the demonstrators would like to admit.
In fact, I take the view that the exclusive social background of the young protesters is the actual birth defect of "Fridays for Future". But because the movement was far too homogeneous, far too elitist and correspondingly far too aloof right from the start, its members remained oblivious to it. Ultimately, only those who are doing well in material terms have the time and leisure to consider climate protection as the most important and also the only political issue of our time and to subordinate everything else to it.
Located in its ivory tower, the movement doesn't even notice that its criticism is leveled at the lifestyle of many economically disadvantaged people, who for financial reasons do not always have a choice. They are denounced as climate sinners because they don't shop in health food stores but at discounters. It never occurs to the demonstrators that there are people whose worries about ever-increasing electricity bills and rental charges make a discussion about forgoing air travel irrelevant from the outset.
And how could they? In their sheltered world, all of that is very far away. But that is exactly what makes the movement a risk, because it jeopardizes the already fragile cohesion of our society. For a large part of the population, however, other, more pressing everyday concerns prevail. For those who are afraid of being affected by job cuts in view of the announcements by the industry, the slashing and burning of tropical rain forest is currently of secondary importance.
Likewise, the extinction of exotic animal species is very far away for someone who worries every day about their tenuous retirement arrangements. That doesn't mean that everyday worries should completely obscure the problems of climate change, but it does explain why climate change is not the first priority for people with existential concerns.
It also explains why measures to save the climate must take economic concerns into account. And it explains why more and more people are wondering whether protesters will finally also take to the streets to deal with their everyday distress: lack affordable housing, declining pensions... plenty of issues exist.
The entire political discourse, both between the parties and outside of parliament, on the street, completely ignores the reality of life for many people in Germany! And I can well imagine that that's not a good feeling for many. The public discussions, which are often far removed from everyday life, exclude less privileged people. The result: we are all sitting on a social powder keg.
I don't originally hail from this metropolitan milieu, but grew up in a region that is often dismissed as "rural backwater". Publications such as "Landlust" and "Landleben" [trendy magazines promoting life in the country side] fulfill the longing of city dwellers for pure nature, but this dream only seems to apply to those people who consciously decide to have a weekend house in the forest. However, anyone who grew up in a rural environment will hardly benefit from this.
My parents live in the Palatinate. I grew up there too. My heart clings to the region, it is scenically beautiful with rows of wine-growing villages. But for an urbanite in pursuit of self-actualization it has to be the worst nightmare. In case your are unfamiliar with Palatinate’s culture:
Schlachtfest instead of whiskey tasting. Very few apartments are actually furnished in this “country style” featured in the magazines. My home village isn’t shooting location for documentaries about gentrification. Maybe a camera team will get lost in one of our many hamlets at a
Saumagen-centered village festival. But that would be pretty rare.
Drowsy villages provide the perfect backdrop while growing up. An ideal, idyllic world. But the older I got, the more I was drawn to the big city. I longed for a place that was more vibrant than the Palatinate and which could offer me more adventures and opportunities on the way to adulthood. Precisely this big, wide world I longed for. And I today I indeed enjoy its advantages. Whenever I drive home today, I have a feeling that two worlds that don't really have much to do with each other are colliding.
Shortly after attending my first Fridays for Future rallies, I paid another visit to my old homeland – these are becoming less and less frequent. When I enthusiastically told my acquaintances there about my experiences at the recent "Fridays for Future" demonstrations, I quickly realized how little they were interested. Out of pure friendship and politeness, they listened to me with half an ear.
I was quite surprised by that. What was the most hotly debated topic of recent weeks in my university town was met with absolute indifference among my old school friends here. They were more interested in the last day of the Bundesliga match or their last Tinder date than in the great climate revolution.
To be honest, I was initially disappointed and then increasingly angry at this lack of interest. While we young people in the big cities are trying to save our planet, the people in my home village are letting us down, I thought. Don't they understand that they too only have one planet at their disposal, just like us from "Fridays for Future"? Luckily, out of politeness, I kept those thoughts to myself.
In the days that followed, I started hearing disparaging comments about Fridays for Future with increasing frequency. In the eyes of my old friends, the movement was an "eco-sect", the self-promotion of big-city, left-wing weirdos. Someone called Greta Thunberg a "deranged menace". In addition to insults, they appeared to become increasingly bothered by the patronizing demeanor of many Fridays for Future protesters, who seem to perceive ICE-car drivers and meat eaters as second-class citizens.
The more often this happened, the deeper the wedge was driven between my current city life and my origins in my home village in the Palatinate. Between my old and my new world. For the first time in my life, I was just happy when I was able to drive back to the big city: finally the ideal world again, even if it was on the verge of collapse.
Ever since that visit, I've been quite hypersensitive whenever my enthusiasm for "Fridays for Future" wasn't shared 100 percent. In my eyes, there were simply only climate heroes on the one hand and climate sinners on the other. The absolute good or absolute bad – and nothing in between! It was only later that I realized how much I was already influenced by the “Fridays for Future” movement.
At first I could only offer my my old acquaintances reproaches. I accused them of being apolitical and uninformed about the world anyway. A mechanism of exclusion that is very common in "Fridays for Future", as I later realized. After all, at university I even mocked my old acquaintances as provincials, something I had always hated myself when my new metropolitan friends teased me about it.
But it was so much easier to just dismiss them as uninformed "provincials" than to argue with them and take them seriously. I didn't ask why my friends from my old home country saw "Fridays for Future" as arrogant or aloof, I didn't care at the time. Possible self-doubts could not arise in the first place.
I didn't anticipate, that this would actually fiercely play up in me over the coming weeks! I thought more and more about the experiences in my home country. It just wouldn't let me go. Where does the rejection of “Fridays for Future” come from, I asked myself. Where does the indifference in the face of urgent global climate problems come from? How could it be that my friends didn't see those and that they didn't comprehend the seriousness of the situation? I looked for answers but couldn't find any.
For several weeks, every Friday, there was no longer any plastic dishware in the university cafeteria. This gesture, following the "Fridays for Future" demonstrations, was intended to set an example for environmental protection. What should have caused storms of enthusiasm in theory, however, meant a very special kind of chaos in practice: balancing a piece of raspberry cake on your bare hand without a plate is more difficult than it might sound. Once the first piece of cake hit the floor, a discussion about the plastic boycott quickly broke out in the canteen.
It immediately turned out that the cashiers could only laugh at what they considered to be an idiotic ban on plastic. Their statements shocked many of my fellow students, who are big "FfF" fans. Instead of relaxed humorous small talk, my fellow students reacted with deadly seriousness. In the heat of the moment, the cashiers were even treated with extremely condescending insults. I will never forget how my fellow students lost all human decency that day in the supposed fight for climate protection. For the first time I noticed how fanatical and arrogant many of my "FfF" acquaintances had long since become.
After that event, something actually changed in me. But I didn't want to admit it to myself at first. But the more often I demonstrated at "Fridays for Future", the more alien the movement became to me. Today I know: It took an event like the one in the university canteen or a stay in my old home country to open my eyes and to realize how important sincerely attempting to understand other realms of experience before applying crude labels to people. Due to its exclusionary megalomania, “Fridays for Future” is incapable of this realization. But only a person who approaches other people, takes them seriously and wants to understand their everyday lives will be listened to. Only those people can actually affect something. They might even, in the best case scenario, save our planet!
While "Fridays for Future" was unable to make inroads my home village’s community, the media was showed more interest. Interviews with activists became more and more frequent on television. The talk shows couldn't get enough of them. "Markus Lanz", "Anne Will" or "Hart aber Fair": All of them had at least one "FfF" activist to visit. The more I saw them there, the more their arrogant demeanor bothered me. I suddenly switched off people who I still saw as inspiring personalities a few months ago. They kept raising their index fingers admonishingly. Looking down from the ivory tower at anyone who disagreed.
Finger wagging was slowly but surely becoming the hallmark of the movement. Their image of the enemy was crystal clear. Their worldview is dangerously one-dimensional. My big city friends suddenly fought everyone they saw as being complicit in the misery of the world: the meat eaters, the plastic bag carriers, the ICE-car drivers, the short-haul fliers, the long-haul fliers, the cruise tourists, the farmers, and of course the evil SUV owners. But honestly, don't we all belong to one of these groups from time to time?
Once they suddenly started cursing anyone who accidentally commits a tiny climate sin, even if it's just incorrect sorting of trash, I felt like they were in the ultimate battle against the rest of humanity. Elitist hubris everywhere I looked. In their moral arrogance they were (and still are) completely unaware of how many "normal" people they alienated by doing so. My assessment that "Fridays for Future" is primarily a movement of socially privileged young people has now been backed up by corresponding figures. The Berlin “Institute for Protest and Movement Research” got to the bottom of the social composition of the climate movement. On March 15, 2019, it surveyed “Fridays for Future” protesters at rallies in Berlin and Bremen. The study was financed by the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen-affiliated "Heinrich Böll Foundation".
The study’s results were illuminating: More than 90 percent of those surveyed stated that they had at least completed their Abitur (or advanced technical college entrance qualification) or were currently striving to do so. An overwhelming majority of 90 percent! Not even 1 percent of the demonstrators attended secondary schools [which prepare pupils for non-academic vocational training]. Almost two-thirds of the students considered themselves to be in the upper-middle class. Even before that, I had no doubt that "Fridays for Future" is a movement of the affluent. But what I read in this study surpassed my estimated. "Fridays for Future" does not in any way represent a cross-section of society, as has often been claimed.
I was surprised how little the sobering result of the study was then discussed. Society had to be informed about the privileged background and the resulting aloofness of the young protesters. Doesn't this change the entire perspective on the defining social debate of the last few months?
The figureheads of the movement in particular all come from the “most bourgeois” background. For example, we have Luisa Neubauer, the best-known German "Fridays for Future" activist. She grew up in the relatively expensive Elbe suburb of Iserbrook in Hamburg. Everyone in Hamburg knows: Not exactly a residential area that is known for its social housing. She did her Abitur in Hamburg-Blankenese. It is Hamburg's villa district par excellence. Sightseeing buses now offer tours through the district to present the magnificent villas to curious tourists. She is a scholarship holder of the party-affiliated foundation Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and is also a member of the party. So nothing stands in the way of a career in politics, she says so herself. "I don't want to rule out a career in politics," she told Zeit Campus, for example. [Neubauer is, in fact, a scion of the oligarchical Reemtsma clan; so is her cousin, another figurehead of the movement]
It’s less a rebellion from below and more a case of perfect self-marketing. But now cracks do appear in this underdog stage production. Today Luisa Neubauer can only be reached via her management. Demonstrators as pop stars! And of course you can't just talk to them on the street when you're demonstrating together. At least not with “Fridays for Future”. Please, what a naive notion! Although there are also critics of the excessive portrayal of people within the "Fridays for Future" movement, there is no real change in sight.
In the meantime, the climate movement has become one thing in particular: a career springboard for ambitious young elites. "Fridays for Future" is the perfect stage to make a name for yourself. Many of the educated offspring of academics are of course aware of this. The more media attention, the more attractive it is to be in the front row. Supposedly idealistic activism can now be marketed very well.
But not only the figureheads like Luisa Neubauer want to get some of the public spotlight. More and more "Neubauer disciples" are trying their luck in the "Fridays for Future" profiling machine. There we have, to name just a few examples, Linus Steinmetz, Carla Reemtsma or Sebastian Grieme.
Getting an appearance on a talk show or at least being able to read your name in the newspaper - all of this can become an opportunity of a lifetime. Being in the front row not only feels incredibly good, it is also a kind of free ticket for later professional life. And as if that wasn't enough: A flood of new Instagram followers is of course also a fantastic side effect. With this in mind: full speed ahead!
Who could object? Everyone is looking for recognition. Doesn't everyone want to take advantage of the opportunities in their life? And finally, every society needs ambitious young people who will later enrich politics, business and culture.
At best, people who want to be the center of attention also bear responsibility for themselves and others. So far no problem, you might think at first.
But how will many people with limited financial resources feel when those rebels who constantly lash out at the lifestyles of others take advantage of it for themselves? While many citizens have to accept new climate costs in their everyday lives, they also experience how Luisa Neubauer is offered a position on the supervisory board at Siemens. In view of this, the suspicion of many people that climate activists are making careers at the expense of other citizens is all too understandable.
I have other concerns as well. In our time, the frustration with the elites is growing. The "enraged citizen phenomenon" has become one of the most discussed topics of this decade. Intellectuals around the world are concerned about the cause of this worrying development. Our society is currently experiencing a "rift" between two major population groups. In an anthology they edited, the political and social scientists Wolfgang Merkel, Ruud Koopmans and Michael Zürn differentiate between “cosmopolitans” and “communitarians”.
There are those who benefit from the future and are therefore relaxed about it. Above all, they see opportunities in it and view the globalization of our world with optimism. This group is referred to as cosmopolitans. But many people are also afraid of change. They believe that the future will not hold anything good and, potentially, only the ever-possible economic decline. Given the "opening" of the world, communitarians see the dangers in particular. They often have the feeling that they are not really noticed by society's elite.
The well-known distinction between “anywheres” and “somewheres” by the British journalist and author David Goodhart supports this finding. Goodhart distinguishes "anywheres" who are educated, wealthy and will feel at home in their circles around the world, and "somewheres". They belong to completely different social milieus and are relegated to a specific place where they work, live, have their friends and struggle to assert their status.
Most "Fridays for Future" activists know: the future belongs to them. Many have the classic biography of a cosmopolitan. Because of their social background, they were born with everything they needed to benefit from our system. Everything is just right: the appearance, the social environment and of course the education.
Although they face the end of the world as a constant threat, their future does not scare them. Why? The doors are wide open for them. They master the complicated rules of our individualized knowledge society very well. You will do your internship in Brussels and not in Bottrop. Better the EU Commission than retail, a sector without future anyway. And also: cultivate connections! Your English vocabulary is usually larger than German. Perfectly prepared for the future, come what may - because they are the elite of tomorrow. The dangerous thing about it: most of the demonstrators are not even aware of this.
The well-trained "Fridays for Future" activists prefer to see themselves as misunderstood outsiders in society. Being an outsider is what makes rebellion sexy. At the same time I say to myself: What must a socially disadvantaged person think when suddenly wealthy cosmopolitans like to play the role of the outsider! And they don't just like it the role. No, they are really putting effort into staging it.
The classic distribution of roles between "perpetrator" and "victim" in the social context is thus turned upside down in a negligent manner: no longer the single mother and multi-jobber is seen as a victim of the existing social conditions, but the climate-conscious scholarship holder who has to experience how the consumption of affordable meat endangers our environment.
But that's not all: instead of listening to the concerns of hard-working people, they blame them for their environmentally unfriendly diesel car, which they need for their daily commute to work.
Instead of considering questions of justice with "Fridays for Future", the movement reduced itself from the start to questions of lifestyle. In my circle of friends, too, the extinction of species is simply cooler than poverty in old age and the issue of gender is hipper than low basic pension.
Above all, the privileged know the social code of the new “morally good” life. The new green-bourgeois bearing regulates the friend-foe scheme of the climate debate. A mechanism of exclusion that often pushes fellow citizens who are already worse off even further aside. A good person has long been only someone who can show an ecologically sound certificate of good conduct. The existential feeling of many that they just have to somehow make ends meet does not exist in the living environment of the (upper) bourgeois offspring. In the climate debate of the last few months, worlds have collided that couldn't be more different. Worlds that are moving further and further apart.
----------------------------------
[The author doesn’t mention it, but the social milieu that makes up the bulk of the climate movement is also very fond of importing Anglo-inspired race discourse. Towards the end of its decline, they were increasingly caught in purity spirals. For example: should white musicians with dreadlocks be allowed to play during happenings?
The study from “Institute for Protest and Movement Research” also examined ethnicity of the protesters: they are predominantly of ethnic German stock, much more so than the average German citizen. Who could have known?]

In HCOL, how does the 5% rule to roughly determine if it’s worth it to buy vs rent make sense?
The 5% rule states you take the price of the home, multiple it by 5%, divide by 12, and if your rent is less than that number then it makes more sense to rent.
Taking a look at average townhome prices in a hot market like the Bay Area, 1.5M house price * .05 / 12 = $6250. As someone who is not married and is young, I’m definitely nowhere close to paying that much in rent for a studio or 1 bed. Does this mean it’ll NEVER make sense to buy?

2023.06.04 21:54 Expert-Spread-1170 I (18 F) and my bf (19 M) are struggling to keep a healthy relationship and need advice
Idk if this is more of a true of my chest or relationship advice section story but here we go. I don’t really use reddit but i listen to stories all the time. Im in high school in Europe in a country that is not very welcoming to emigrants and have struggled to make friends due to my low level in the country’s language (English is not my first language btw). 3 months into living here i met my (18 F) bf (19 M). I wasn’t ready for a relationship and i told him so but still ended up in a relationship. We had many fights due to me having a broken fairytale view on how relationships should be (we both come from single moms, mine also having a really bad relationship with her family so its just been me and her mostly). He’d do small things that piled up and about 4 months in ended with me seeking validation in one of my friends’ arms. We didn’t go further than kissing and i immediately told him what happened afterwards. I am aware this is an extremely low thing to do and am very sorry about it After that i went on to be an asshole bc i was so scared he’d realise how bad I’m treating him and leave. Somewhere around the 8th month mark i had some problems with my school and realised that all of the work i had put into my grades the past year, finishing 3rd in my class full of fluent people, was for nothing due to an “accident”. This might’ve pushed me to realise how wrong i was and tried to fix everything and gave my all but it was still very hard for me to show my love in a healthy way. Writing this im realising how stupid this whole thing sounds but bare with me. By that time he had already lost all trust in me and about 3 months before our anniversary he started talking to a girl behind my back, I’d find out and get mad then he’d apologise, we’d get back together and he’d do it again. This, missing my home country and the school problems sent me into a deep depression. I had stopped talking to all of my friends and I’d cry multiple times a day. 2 weeks before our anniversary he had asked for a break to focus on school and 2 days later i found out from the friends i had stopped talking to that he was talking to that girl again and even met her. The day he met her i had a gut feeling and asked him, for the first time ever, straight up “are you cheating on me?” which he denied, telling me he was smoking with his friend. After that i decided i have had enough and after a few screaming fits on the phone and the support of my friends and mom i broke up with him. I started seeing other people immediately since i was feeling so low and at the time needed the validation. I kept on seeing him as “friends with benefits”. We met about 2 weeks after the break up, asked him to leave after the deed and when he refused i started gushing about all of the boys that wanted me as newly single. Ik it was very petty of me, there are many red flags throughout this story, as i said we are both teenagers and have deadbeat fathers. He ig didn’t think i had it in me and was taken by surprise and confessed to me he had been miserable without me (sucks for you buddy). This went on to be a very toxic sort of friend ship with benefits? I would lead him on saying “I’m not ready to get back together yet” but secretly doing anything i thought would make me get over him. This went on until Christmas when after one of our fights where he found out i was talking to my ex. He left some of his tabac in my bag and i refused to give it back (again out of pettiness). He texted my mom. She gave it back to him and i blocked him everywhere. A day after i met up with a guy and hooked up on Christmas. A week later, on new years eve it was his birthday and i didn’t resist and texted him. We called he confessed he had seen another woman in this time and after 5 days I’ve decided to give it another chance. I felt like this Christmas hook up opened my eyes to everything i had been doing wrong. I had been either extremely distant or extremely needy and there should be a healthy balance. And he too realised his wrongs. I said we’d try to be loyal to each other for 3 months and see where it goes. He had developed this system where any time I’d get very angry he’ll just poker faced tell me “if you don’t like it leave”. And that would make me crazy. I’d have panic attacks, feel like i can’t get through to him and hurt myself. All of this got better when we had a sleepover, because my mom was out of town, where we realised we both missed each other so much and didn’t have a healthy way to communicate so we’d just argue. Since then our relationship has gotten better, we are not perfect but working to meet each other’s needs and understand one another before jumping to conclusions. Now, i keep on having these nightmares where either him, my mom or my dad would do something bad, i would be rightfully upset and get no answer which would get me again crazy, throwing things, screaming, crying. And still throughout all of this they wouldn’t be able to see how upset i am. Idk if i want advice or just somebody to listening to me? I really love this guy and he loves me, we are working to fight our parents mistakes and be happy together. Ik we have truly made progress and wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. Idk if it’s better to give up, HEAL and start fresh with somebody new when the time’s right? Idk if we can recover from all of this? I want to make this work but i think we are both too young for the level of our problems and need help. I’m reluctant to go to therapy since i have had bad experiences with them but im working my way there. Until then here i am ig Please keep in mind i don’t use the internet a lot to post since I’m scared of bullies and as I’ve said i am a teenager with bad self love so don’t tear up into me too hard. Thank you for reading my silly little thoughts. If this gets good responses I’m thinking about getting his side of the story and how he sees everything but it depends what he is and isn’t comfortable with sharing on the internet.

Unfortunately, The Little Mermaid is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest. While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release. The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that The Little Mermaid will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively). As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months. The Little Mermaid, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-The Little Mermaid season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since The Little Mermaid, though The Little Mermaid will overtake it any day now. The Little Mermaid came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact ) , which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's The Little Mermaid to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open. Finishing up the top five is The Little Mermaid, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million. submitted by

, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's Zara Hatke Zara Bachke to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million. nadan

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in The Little Mermaid would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As The Little Mermaid neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above). “I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in The Little Mermaid, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's The Little Mermaid.) “And what an opportunity. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service. Is The Little Mermaid Streaming on Disney Plus?

2023.06.04 21:50 Commercial-Peanut-73 From Australia to the UK
I recently moved to the UK 4 months ago from Australia. I’m only staying for a year as I am taking a gap year from uni and am using this time to work and travel and build life experience. Although I know I’m going back to Australia, I miss it heaps! I have great friends here where I live, even Australian friends from other states but I can’t shake it. It’s hard moving from a small state to such a large country. It’s hard looking back at everyone from home and thinking about how much I’m missing and what life will look like when I get back home. But at the same time I’m travelling around the UK and Europe! I never imagined myself fulfilling a lifelong goal of travel at a young age. I’m so grateful for the experiences I get to have. I know I’m not much of an expat and I’ll be going back soon, but I don’t know where else to post. Any tips to help me not feel too homesick?

2023.06.04 21:47 Harbinger_51 I started working at a new airport to get away from the mayhem. I just found a new kind.
I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but the last few years have been wild for airline travel. It seems like not even a week can pass before a new viral video is circulating the internet, showcasing some idiot on a plane or airport screaming, shouting, and even starting fights with other passengers and flight staff for no apparent reason.
I’m sure it’s entertaining when you’re sitting at home and come across these videos while casually scrolling through Reddit or Twitter. You might laugh, or shake your head at the stupidity and not give it a second thought. Unfortunately, this isn’t an option when you’re the one on the job.
I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to call security to deal with a rowdy or straight-up violent customer in the airport over the last couple of years. Most of the time, the things that set people off are surprisingly minor and avoidable issues.
They want to board now but it wasn’t their turn so they start harassing me and my co-workers. Another passenger looked at them funny so they get into a screaming match. A baby is crying so the grown adult starts whining even louder. The person in front of them took the last chocolate donut with sprinkles from the airport bakery so they start throwing punches.
You would not believe the stuff I’ve seen. Needless to say, I got tired of it. Getting up to go to work, wondering what kind of unhinged maniac was going to make a problem for me lost its appeal. So, I started to look for a new job.
A few weeks into the job search, I began to get doubtful that I would find a suitable replacement. Seeing as my only tangible skills and experience were in the airline industry, I didn’t have much more than other airline jobs within realistic reach. Though I didn’t have a problem with relocation, if it meant I was going to end up in another major airport, I had no interest.
During one 3 am job search after my long shift at the airport, running on nothing but the jittery movements from the room-temperature coffee, I found a new job listing. One Pine Airport, a rural airport in the midwest. I sat up and took another sip of coffee. The pictures for the place gave an idea of the size and it looked tiny. Only a couple of runways, a single terminal, and a cute internal design reflective of the forestry that surrounded it. Perfect for me, I thought. I imagined there would not be nearly as many people to deal with.
I scrolled down to the job details and to my relief, it was for the exact same job I had already been doing. The only difference was that it required frequent night shifts. I had done plenty of night shifts before, but doing a few more of them made no difference to me. Surprisingly listed was the pay. I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were offering more starting than I was being paid at the airport I had been at for over three years.
Now wide awake, I eagerly uploaded my resume, filled out all of the application questions, and even spent the next hour crafting an unnecessary cover letter. I headed to bed with the hope that my days at overflowing airports might be over. The next day as I was getting ready for work, I opened my phone to scroll through notifications and check emails.
To my disbelief, I had one from the job I had applied for only hours earlier. The manager at the airport, who had posted the job, requested an interview over Zoom. I quickly replied and we settled on a time during my lunch break that very day.
The first few hours of work breezed by and as I boarded flight after flight of passengers, I couldn’t help but think about the upcoming interview. When it came time, I was nervous as hell but my fears were diffused within the first minute. A bald, well-kept, and well-dressed man joined the meeting room and greeted me with a warm smile. He introduced himself as James.
I couldn’t have asked for a more friendly interviewer. He welcomed me and after some small talk and a few questions about my relevant experience, he gave an overview of the job's details, that being the same job I already had with better pay but more frequent night shifts. No problem with me. After affirming that I knew all the details of the job, James cracked another wide, friendly smile and asked an unexpected question.
“When can you start?”
I spit the out sip of coffee I had just taken back into the cup. I looked back up at James and tried to find the right words but I was unprepared.
“You uh… aren’t gonna give me a call back like later or something? Don’t you have more interviews and… and paperwork waiting to clear and, and…?”
James waved his hand dismissively at his webcam.
“You’re the only applicant we have, and we couldn’t have asked for a better one. As for the paperwork and such, we’ll figure that out when we figure it out. The job is yours, whenever you can start, that is. Preferably soon?”
Though the feelings of shock and confusion remained, they were pushed to the side by my excitement. Throughout the remainder of our conversation, James and I reviewed our schedules and set up a start date before ending the call. I sat back in my break room chair with a sigh of disbelief and a chuckle.
I am well aware that it is standard to give at least a two-week notice to your employer and moving across states for a job is supposed to take quite a bit of planning but I was dying to get out of my current job. Through both eagerness and maybe a little stupidity, we settled on a day only a little over a week away.
At the end of my shift that day, I let my manager know I had to be done in a week. Though she wasn’t happy, she assured me it wouldn’t be a problem.
My final day was nothing short of horrendous. A couple had come up, demanding and screaming that I refund their tickets for no apparent reason. On top of that, they still wanted to fly. After hearing that no, they would not be able to fly for zero cost, the husband, followed by the wife, both started shouting threats. Security was quickly called to the terminal.
As soon as they arrived, I checked my watch to find that my shift was over. I let out a sigh of relief and excitedly walked away. As deprived of sleep as I was, with a long and undoubtedly stressful drive ahead of me, I was still more energetic and in higher spirits than I had been in a long time.
Surprisingly, the drive went off without a hitch. I arrived earlier than expected and checked into the motel room I rented for the week so I had time to get the move figured out. After dumping a few boxes of personal items and a suitcase of clothes into the room, I turned off the lights. I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow.
I energetically awoke that evening to prepare myself for my first shift. I quickly got dressed and started the drive in hopes of arriving plenty early. Naively, I hadn’t considered how my unfamiliarity with the roads would slow me down, and after a staggering amount of wrong turns, I arrived at the little airport with only minutes to spare.
The airport was even smaller in person than I had imagined it to be from the pictures. I quickly walked through the entrance and was greeted by the small team of security. After notifying them that I was there for work and that James had been waiting for me, they hurried me through without so much as a question. The security, the architecture, the beautiful scenery that surrounded it, nothing about this airport couldn’t have felt more welcoming.
I walked through to find the single terminal inside, devoid of any passengers, with James sitting behind a counter at the end. After a moment he looked up and upon making eye contact with me, his tired face lit up. I was about to apologize for my tardiness but didn’t have the chance as he rushed to show me the employee locker room where he had my new employee uniform and badge waiting inside my very own locker. He told me to get changed and to meet him outside right away.
I did as he asked and within a couple of minutes, I walked out to find him back behind the console at the counter, gathering his belongings. He noticed me approaching and glanced up, thanking me for showing up and starting so soon as he handed me a fresh cup of coffee. He also apologized for not being able to stick around long for my shift but he sounded sure that he wasn’t all that worried.
“I have to be going now, I’ve been on duty for 17 hours. I know you’re plenty familiar with our systems and software, you know what you’re doing.”
He assured me with a pat on the back before walking out from the desk. He turned and added
“It’ll be a quiet night for you anyway. No flights scheduled. Just sit back, relax, and uh... Oh yeah. Most importantly, I nearly forgot”.
He reached into his bag and pulled out a single sheet of laminated paper and held it in front of me.
“Give this a read as soon as you can. Go over it a few times if you need, don’t deviate from it”.
I took it but before I could even get a look, I noticed James begin to walk toward the exit, along with every single one of the security guards and the cashier who had just closed down the only shop in the airport. I then noticed that all of the scanners and metal detectors at the security gate were shut off. I started to panic.
“Hey! James? Where is everyone going?”
I shouted. The first words I had managed to speak to my new boss since arriving. He stopped and turned back again
“Oh yeah. Another thing I ought to have mentioned. Everyone except whoever is working the night shift in, well, your position takes off right around now. Don’t worry, security will be back sometime around 5 am. You’ve got this place to yourself. Grab a magazine from the little store in there if you get bored. Feel free to snag yourself a couple of snacks too”.
He began to walk away again before briefly turning and pointing at me.
“But before you do anything, read that list. You’ll need it”.
I stood, dumbfounded as I watched my new boss along with all of the other airport staff leave. I started to wrap my head around the fact that I had an empty airport to myself for 10 hours, with nothing to do and no one to deal with, all while I was getting paid the highest wage I had ever earned.
As much as thinking about it delighted me, I turned my attention turned toward the sheet of paper I almost forgot I was holding on to. James said to follow whatever list was on it, so I figured I ought to take a look. I walked behind the airport counter and sank into one of the seats behind it. I took a sip of coffee and finally took a serious look.
A total of 6 rules were neatly spaced on the sheet.
Rule 1: All lights in the airport are to stay on at all times. If one is off, or if you are to accidentally turn one off, turn it back on as soon as possible. If a light seems to be broken or is out and unable to turn back on, calmly exit the area. Report the outage to James or maintenance when possible. Do not listen to the sounds. Do not listen to the voices.
Rule 2: Rule 2 pertains to rainy or stormy weather. If it is raining or storming outside, disregard rules 3, 4, and 5. They will not be a concern during these types of weather conditions. Stay inside at all times. Do not use the men’s restroom and avoid going near it entirely if possible.
Rule 3: Sometime between 11 pm and 1 am, a young woman will walk out of the women’s restroom. She will enter the terminal and sit, occasionally getting up to walk around or change seats. Her name is Elizabeth. She will attempt to make conversation but you must not reciprocate. You may look at her, you may give nonverbal communication such as a head nod, you may write as a means of communication, or you may shake her hand but do not speak to her. If you refuse to speak to her, Elizabeth should be gone within a few hours. If you happen to make such a mistake, go to the men’s restroom and wait for her to leave.
Rule 4: At around one or two in the morning, a janitor in blue coveralls will arrive at the front entrance. Crack open the door and ask for his name. If he says his name is Simon, let him in. If he gives you any name other than Simon, shut the door and lock it without another word and walk away. If the janitor is Simon, he will attend to the janitorial needs of the airport. If he asks to clean where you are standing, oblige him. Simon will not interfere with your duties otherwise. He is not hostile or dangerous. You may engage in conversation with Simon. He will leave the same way he came when he feels it is necessary.
Rule 5: At around 3 am, you may notice that a black and red Cessna Skyhawk has landed on one of the airstrips. You will never see it land, and you will never see it take off. It will just appear when you’re not looking. After spotting the plane for the first time, do not look at it again. Avoid looking in its general direction if at all possible. There is a picture of the exact plane displayed inside the terminal, behind the counter.
Rule 6: Later in the night but sometime before dawn, a group of men claiming to be from TSA may arrive at the airport. They will have their own key and let themselves in. Some could be armed. Often, they exhibit panicked behavior. They may search through the airport, sweep room to room, and ask questions. They are permitted to search anywhere in the main airport building that they please, and you may oblige to any questioning but under no circumstances are they permitted to enter the sky bridge. They will not enter without verbal approval and they cannot harm you.
After reading over it a few times, I set the laminated sheet down and leaned back further into my seat before taking a long sip of coffee, wondering what on earth I had just read. I hadn’t taken James to be the imaginative type. Most of all, I hadn’t taken him to be anywhere near the unprofessional type. Though as I thought about it, it was unusual how rushed this all was and how he left in such a hurry, leaving so few details.
I began to wonder if I was being pranked, I considered that maybe this was all some sort of messed up joke or setup. I ruled that out pretty quickly. This was, in fact, a real airport. I had done plenty of research by the time I got here. At least a few real flights were coming in or going out each day. James has been working here for years and I couldn’t think of a reason why he would jeopardize his job or reputation just to get a scare out of me.
After chuckling to myself at the absurdity of my situation, I decided to indulge and see what would happen. Maybe it was a “test” for me as a new employee. Maybe James wanted to see if I could follow orders.
After glancing at the list once more and realizing the impact rule 2 had on the number of things I would have to keep track of, I brought up my phone to check the forecast. Clear skies, not a chance for rain or storms all night. Great, I thought to myself. I had to watch out for these Elizabeth and Simon characters to show up and I suppose “not” be on the lookout for a random plane to appear on the runway.
I stood up and grabbed my coffee, walking to the glass panes. I took another sip from my cup while admiring the lit runways along the airfield. It sure was a pretty nice sight. As I was raising my cup to finish what was left, I began to hear the click of shoes on the floor somewhere behind me.
Startled, I spun around abruptly, dropping my cup and spilling the remainder of the coffee in the process. At the other end of the terminal seating stood a young woman, around her mid-twenties in my estimation. She was holding two large leather suitcases in each hand and had an old-fashioned sense of style with a skirt and heels. Most surprising was her stunning beauty and welcoming smile.
“Oh I’m sorry dear, didn’t mean to scare you”
She expressed with a sincere tone. I opened my mouth, ready to assure her that everything was fine but I stopped myself. I recalled the list. At this point, I was certain that she was here at James’s request, a paid actor determined to make me break the rules. I was more determined not to. Instead, I simply fixed my posture, straightened my uniform, and looked back with a smile.
She walked to the counter where she placed her leather suitcases on the ground before closing the distance between us.
“Looks like we’ve got this fabulous airport all to ourselves. I am Elizabeth”
She said, reaching out her hand. I shook it, but she didn’t seem quite satisfied.
“And your name?”
I continued to smile and lock eye contact. Her grin grew for a moment before she remarked
“You don’t seem to be much of a talkative one”
And with that, she turned and started to walk away. I returned to my seat behind the counter, watching her closely as I did. Elizabeth proceeded to the unattended airport shop and after a couple of minutes of looking over magazine covers and occasionally taking a peek inside, she returned carrying a small stack of reading material. She approached my counter before placing a National Geographic magazine in front of me.
“I figured you might like this one. Enjoy”
She said, winking before settling on a seat in the first row of the terminal, straight across from where I had been sitting.
Remarkably, her intuition was spot on. I may have lived in cities all of my life but I loved nature, despite how little of it I had gotten to see. National Geographic was a favorite of mine, one I had been familiar with and enjoyed on work breaks from time to time. Rarely was I given this long to be able to read. I was almost tempted to break the rule and thank her for her rather thoughtful act, though I didn’t. I stuck to the rule.
The next couple of hours were uneventful. Elizabeth and I read through our magazines, occasionally looking up at each other to exchange glances and smiles. Within that time, she had attempted to get me to talk at least half a dozen more times. I almost gave in when she asked me if I wanted another magazine.
At a little past 1:30, I could hear a knock at the front entrance. Elizabeth and I both looked before she remarked
“Oh, that must be the nice cleaner man”
With a giggle before returning to her magazine. I walked over to the front doors and sure enough, there stood a man around his mid-thirties, sporting a blue janitor suit waiting patiently at the door. I unlocked the door and opened it. As he took a stride to enter, I remembered the most important detail from rule 4. I closed the door halfway and sternly commanded
“Wait”
The man looked up at me with a surprised look. I asked him the question.
“What is your name?”
The man stared back at me as an innocent smile formed on his face.
“I’m Simon!”
He announced excitedly.
“The Janitor here. Did James let you know I was coming tonight?”
I stood there for a moment, thinking over the rule, before nodding my head and opening the door once again to let him in.
Once inside, Simon walked with purpose to the janitor's closet which was positioned near the men’s restroom. I followed him somewhat suspiciously for the next few minutes as he began to clean but I eased up once I got the feeling that he was just the janitor around here and that James made up the whole “ask for his name thing” to make into one of his rules.
I returned to my counter in the terminal and continued to read. Occasionally, Simon would pass by, off to do his duties in some part of the airport or Elizabeth would stand up to look at the various pictures and paintings on display in the terminal. A good half an hour of this would go on before Simon approached the terminal counter with his mop in hand. He seemed to be eyeing up the two leather suitcases Elizabeth had set there.
Assuming he wanted to clean where they were, I got up to move them. I grabbed each one by the handle but failed to lift them off of the ground. Confused, I stepped back to see if they were stuck on something. They were not. Just two suitcases, left right where Elizabeth had set them.
I tried to lift just one. Again, I failed. I tried both hands, putting my back and legs into it with all that I had. It wouldn’t budge.
I looked back up at Simon who nodded his head in Elizabeth’s direction. I turned to look at Elizabeth, who after noticing my stare, and my apparent inability to move her luggage, smiled and stood up.
“Let me get that for you”
She insisted. With ease, she lifted both leather suitcases and moved them closer to her seat before lowering them, this time letting them drop a few inches. When they hit the ground, a boom echoed through the airport and I flinched in surprise. I looked back at Simon, who hadn’t seemed shocked at all. He just continued to mop.
I slowly made my way back to my seat, not taking an eye off Elizabeth for one second as I did. After a few minutes, she looked back up from her magazine, noticed my stare, and returned to her reading with a grin. She seemed to find my shock amusing. Eventually, Simon noticed my surprise as well. He paused his mopping and approached me before raising his head.
“I know, I know. Stick to the rules and everything will be just fine, trust me”
He stated quietly. I nodded my head in response.
Simon went back to his cleaning. A few minutes passed before Elizabeth had something new to say.
“What a remarkable aircraft!”
She exclaimed, looking out the glass panes facing the runways. I followed her gaze to the lone, black, and red airplane positioned on the runway. I turned around, looking at the picture displayed behind me. It certainly looked like a match. I turned back to the window and felt my heart sink. A silhouette of a person now stood next to the plane, facing the airport and the windows of the terminal.
“Stop looking at it”
Simon sternly muttered from behind me. I looked back at Simon who quickly cowered, seemingly ashamed to have raised his voice at me but I was grateful he had. I read over rule 5 again, specifically where it stated to not look at the plane twice. I murmured insults at myself under my breath but they didn’t have much room between my now heavy, frantic breathing. My eyes darted through the other rules. I chose to focus on that sheet of paper. At least it was something other to look at than the plane outside.
This went on for a good ten minutes or so and my breathing started to calm down. I had begun to pray in my head that whoever and whatever that was would go away when Elizabeth suddenly approached my counter. I snapped my head up in a jittery movement to make eye contact with her.
“I’m going to get some more reading material. Want another one of those?”
She asked, reaching a hand out to my National Geographic magazine. I looked up and nodded, forcing a smile. As She moved away, my gaze didn’t, and once again I found myself looking at the plane on the runway, the silhouette now standing hundreds of feet away from the plane, even closer to the building, and still staring in my direction.
Chills ran up my spine as I snapped my gaze back to my desk. I began to shake with fear and the manic breathing returned. Moments later, Elizabeth returned and placed a new magazine on the counter before running a hand over my shoulder, seemingly to comfort me. Simon then put his hand on my back.
“He’ll be gone soon and so will the plane. Just don’t look at it again”
He assured me.
“Mind if I clean here?”
He then asked.
I got up and walked to the end of the counter, watching Simon thoroughly clean the floor before I looked up and let out a soft
“Thank you”
He nodded and smiled back.
“What was that?”
Elizabeth asked. I turned towards her.
“Oh, I was just thanking Simon for-”
My error occurred to me before I could finish speaking. My eyes locked on Elizabeth as she stood up from her seat and her smile faded. Her eyes and nose began to bleed profusely as she started to sob, lightly at first, then hysterically. She let out a bellowing screech, a mix of pain and anger. She picked up one of her suitcases and hurled it at me, I barely dodged the ridiculously heavy object before it crashed into the wall behind me.
Luckily I was quick thinking this time and made a run for the men’s restroom recalling rule 3. She chased after me but I slammed the door shut in her face and locked it. Elizabeth pounded on the door with furious anger a few times but gave up quickly.
“So that’s how you dance, is it love? I can play that game”
She snickered before flipping a light switch outside of the bathroom. The clicking of her shoes faded away. A few minutes of silence passed before laughter started to become audible from the other side of the door.
One voice grew to two, two voices grew to three, three grew to ten. While others continued their now hysterical laughing, some began to scream. I crumbled to the floor, covering my ears as the voices went on, only stopped by another flip of the switch. Light beamed through the bottom of the door.
“It’s over now. She’s gone, and so is the plane. I’ve gotta be getting out of here soon”
Simon’s calm and friendly voice called out. I reluctantly exited the bathroom and followed him back to the counter, where he had prepared another coffee for me.
“Wish I could have done more there but you’ll come to find out that when Elizabeth gets angry, you just gotta let her do her thing”.
I looked up at him, still with my distraught face, at a loss for words. Over the next few minutes, Simon finished cleaning Elizabeth’s blood from the floor before putting everything back into the janitor's closet. He looked down at his watch.
“I better get out of here. Good luck with the rest of your night. I hope I’ll be seeing you soon”.
He said, letting out a sigh as he again looked at me in pity. I think he knew how shaken up I was. It was like he had seen people in my position before. Something told me he doesn’t have a choice on when he leaves. After I watched him exit the door, I returned to my seat behind the counter. I began to feel alone and afraid, but the loneliness wouldn’t last at least.
Only minutes after Simon left, the doors swung open and men in tactical gear, most of which had their faces covered in masks and goggles, rushed through the door. I sprung back up from my seat and watched as they did, with not much else I could do. They swept room to room, checking every nook and cranny at gunpoint, ignoring my existence at first.
As they cleared the entire building, the twenty or so armed men made their way to the terminal seating area. A lone man in a suit, whom I had not noticed enter, made his way to the front of the group.
“I’m with TSA, I’m going to need you to answer some questions for me”
He demanded. I nodded in affirmation.
“How many individuals have you seen in this airport since the security team left the building?”
“Besides myself, 2 Inside, one outside”
I answered confidently.
“Was the individual outside next to a black and red Cessna Skyhawk?”
“Yes”
I again responded confidently. The man in the suit nodded and paused for a moment before making another demand.
“We’re going to need to search the air bridge”.
I glanced back at the sheet of rules on the counter. Making sure I had read it right before. I took a step forward and straightened my uniform.
“No”
I replied. The man in the suit looked irritated.
“If you do not step aside and give us permission to search, I’m afraid I’ll have to detain you”.
Already tired and worn out, I wasn’t going to break the last rule. I decided to give a not-so-smart remark to the man in the suit
“Looking a little well-armed for TSA, wouldn’t you agree?”
He ignored my comment.
“Last chance, step aside”
“No”
Again, irritated by my response, the man in the suit turned to his right and raised his chin to give a signal. Gunshots rang out and I collapsed to the floor. I felt as though my life left my body before it all faded to black.
The next thing I remembered was the feeling of my hand gripping a water bottle. Then came James’s voice.
“I see you made it through the first night intact. Looks like you got to meet Simon. He’s a nice guy, you’ll get to like him. And Elizabeth, she’s…well, she’s something else, isn’t she?”
I opened my eyes and looked up at James.
“Am I dead?”
I asked in a raspy voice. James chuckled in return.
“No! No, you did great. You’re fine. It does, however, look like you might have been a little assertive to our undead TSA special forces wannabes. I would recommend sticking with the less aggressive tone and word choices, maybe I ought to edit that into the rules sheet… In any case, they can’t hurt you but they can still get a jump out of you, as you saw”.
Once again, I was at a loss for words. I slowly made my way back to my feet from the ground and looked at the sunrise over the airfield. James held out an envelope for me. I opened it, revealing a stack of crisp $100 bills.
“A little bonus for your first night. It sure is a lot to go through for the first time but I promise, you get used to it all”.
I turned to James with an angry look and finally spoke up.
“What the hell is wrong with you? What makes you think it’s okay to put someone through this without any warning? I'm done, keep your damn money. I’m gonna go call the cops”.
I started to walk towards the exit when James stepped in front of me.
“Look, I know it isn’t fair for you but it wasn’t fair for me either. It wasn’t fair for any of us. It’s not okay, I know. But what do you expect me to do? Someone needs to be here for the night shift. You wouldn’t believe any of this if I told you ahead of time. You would have thought I was some sort of nutjob and the police will think of you the same if you tell them. I needed you to see it for yourself”
James was starting to get worked up and stoppeto breatheth before continuing.
“This money is yours, no strings attached. You’re free to leave now and never come back, there will be no shame in it”
I also started to calm down but I couldn’t bring myself to look James in the eye yet.
“If you choose to stay, I’ll see you in my office to finish up your paperwork”.
And with that, James walked away. Facing the front of the airport, I watched the first passengers of the day come through the entrance. I just stood there for a few minutes. Whether I was ready for this job or not, I knew right then I sure as hell wasn’t going back to another overcrowded city airport.
I turned and headed for James’s office.

2023.06.04 21:47 AutoModerator How To Watch* (THE LITTLE MERMAID FREE) Online Here’s How
Motion Pictures! Here are options for downloading or watching The Little Mermaid streaming the full movie online for free on 123 movies & Reddit, including where to watch Disney's latest live-action adaptation movies at home. Is The Little Mermaid 2023 available to stream? Is watching The Little Mermaid on Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix or Amazon Prime? Yes, we have found an authentic streaming option/service. Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free It's time to dive under the sea once again. Over the last few years, Disney has recreated their top animated musical films into live-action movies. The Little Mermaid is no different, and viewers can't wait to swim into theaters to catch a glimpse of how the movie will stand up against the original version. The latest of Disney's hugely successful line of live-action remakes, Ariel (Halle Bailey) is set to return to theaters for the first time in almost thirty-five years with The Little Mermaid (2023). The Walt Disney Company once again invites audiences to travel under the sea to see Princess Ariel's story unfold like never before. Featuring direction from veteran musical filmmaker Rob Marshall and other roles inhabited by major Hollywood stars like Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch and Javier Bardem as King Triton, the film is bound to be a bona fide hit at the box office. Though the upcoming and highly anticipated film will have stiff competition against two stand-up comedians on the weekend it releases, The Little Mermaid is destined to show that life is better down where it's wetter under the sea this Summer movie season. The 2023 live-action movie will only be available in theaters starting May 26. That means if you want to watch it ASAP. However, it will be available to stream on the Disney+ platform soon. Disney+ typically follows a 90-day period before its theatrical releases come to the streaming platform. That means we may see the live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" come to Disney+ as early as August 2023. Before we ask if you're interested in seeing this, we know you are. But like us, you're probably wondering how to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online. Luckily, we have some clues and it's likely to land on a major streaming site very soon. So climb aboard, because here's where to watch and stream The Little Mermaid online. Ariel's quest to go from a mermaid into a human begins anew when The Little Mermaid premieres this Memorial Day Weekend on Friday, May 26th, 2023. The film will be going up against not one, but two stand-up comedians and their films that weekend, with Sebastian Maniscalco's About My Father and Bert Kreischer's The Machine premiering on the same day. That said, The Little Mermaid will almost certainly be the choice for younger audiences and families. While some Disney films are heading straight to Disney+, The Little Mermaid will first be shown exclusively in theaters. As of now, the only way to watch The Little Mermaid is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on May 26, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Watch Now: The Little Mermaid (2023) Movie Online Free Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+. At the moment, you can watch The Little Mermaid at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future. Like its predecessor, The Little Mermaid is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Little Mermaid is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see The Little Mermaid on Disney+ later this year too. As for an exact release date for The Little Mermaid, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for The Little Mermaid, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September. When the time comes for The Little Mermaid to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app. As you wait for The Little Mermaid to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special The Little Mermaid Live!. Enjoy! Unlike several of Disney's other live-action remakes such as Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid will be exclusively in movie theaters first with tickets available for pre-sale now. After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, the film will be released on the Disney+ streaming service. Based on Disney's past release models, the film won't be made available to stream before 45 to 90 days after its theatrical release. Now that movie theaters seem to be back, The Little Mermaid live-action film will be an in-theater release first before being released to at-home video. That means that your only chance to watch it right now is by going to your local theater. However, don't lose all hope. Since it's a Disney movie, it will eventually make its way over to Disney+ after a few months on the big screen. It will also be available on other streamers like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, and more to rent and own at your leisure. If you're hoping to get your mermaid kick in now, then you can tune into the original The Little Mermaid which is available on Disney+ and other streaming services including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, and the Google Play store. The 2023 version of The Little Mermaid will only be in theaters initially. After The Little Mermaid has completed its exclusive theatrical run, it is likely to stream on Disney Plus. You can also watch the animated version of Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale of Ariel on Disney Plus now. While you will only be able to catch the new "The Little Mermaid" in theaters starting next Friday, you can still sign up for Disney+ now to refresh yourself on the characters, song, plot and magical fun from the highly anticipated film. The 1989 version of the movie was a catalyst for Disney's animation renaissance throughout the '90s and it still holds up today. An ad-supported Disney+ subscription starts at $8 per month, but you can get an ad-free access to the service for $11 monthly or bundle the Disney streaming service with Hulu and ESPN+ starting at $13 per month. Disney+ boasts a huge collection of movies and television series, including Marvel and Star Wars content. If you add in Hulu and ESPN, you have nearly unlimited entertainment at your fingertips. When will The Little Mermaid be streaming on Disney+? The Little Mermaid Disney+ premiere date is tentatively estimated to be Aug. 30, 2023. While no official Little Mermaid streaming date has been confirmed by Disney, most of its major movie releases drop on Disney+ following a minimum 90-day period, and typically premiere on the platform on Wednesdays, making Wednesday, Aug. 30 the most likely date for Disney’s The Little Mermaid live-action streaming release. Is The Little Mermaid streaming on Netflix? No, The Little Mermaid will not be on Netflix — at least not any time soon. In the meantime, you’ll just have to head out to a movie theater or wait for it to become available to stream on Disney+. Will The Little Mermaid Be On HBO Max? No, The Little Mermaid will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release. Is The Little Mermaid Available On Hulu? Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie The Little Mermaid on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service. You can also rent or buy the movie on iTunes or Google Play. You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable. The Little Mermaid Cast and Characters The Little Mermaid was written by David Magee and directed by Rob Marshall. It stars the following actors: Halle Bailey as Ariel Melissa McCarthy as Ursula Javier Bardem as King Triton Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric Daveed Diggs as Sebastian Awkwafina as Scuttle Jacob Tremblay as Flounder Art Malik as Sir Grimsby What is The Little Mermaid About? The official synopsis for The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Studios read: “The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. There is not much mystery in The Little Mermaid's plot. As seen in Disney's many other live-action remakes, it is anticipated that the film's plot will largely stick to the original. With the well-known song "Part of Your World," in which Ariel sings about her wish to be a part of the world beyond the water, i.e., the human realm, the teaser already alluded to Ariel's fascination with the human world. Fans will get to see Ariel and Prince Eric's romance as they deal with the challenges posed by their differences. submitted by

2023.06.04 21:43 isayhitoalldogs Is my town causing my depression?
So my husband and I live in a small town that’s pretty far from other communities. I feel like the one thing that hurts our marriage is the fact that we live here.
I have wanted to move since I met him and he said he shared the same desire. However, professionally this town has given us a lot of opportunities because we’re young and educated and most educated people leave the town for outside opportunities. Since we stayed, I feel like we are more successful than our peers.
Our families are here but I have no loyalty to this town. We have young children but neither of our families help out. I love my family but his are not people I want to be associated with (gossipy, childlike, manipulative). I want to leave but my husband feels the professional benefits outweigh the desire to leave and has expressed like being near his family.
My issue is, I just can’t be happy here. His siblings are super gossipers and one SIL has dished on what the other siblings have said about us (petty stuff like criticizing our home, parenting styles but nothing of substance). But it makes me so uncomfortable being around these people. I don’t feel like I can make any true friends here because the town is so small - if I make a friend here that friend will be also close to my SIL and I don’t trust a single one of my in laws.
I don’t gossip and stick to myself but I feel so lonely in a town that doesn’t have a world-like perspective- the only friends I can make here are petty gossipers because no one has accomplished something or done something of substance. I want friends who read interesting books, care about traveling or who love to cook fancy food (honestly anything other than petty gossip/drinking/etc).
I’m so different from the people who live here (partially because I grew up in a big city) and I can’t succumb to “low life” gossiping and it makes me uncomfortable even being around these people….
I feel like a reason I get “gossiped about” is because I grew up agnostic, am educated, have a large home and dual high income, eat plant based, POC, don’t drink, am a little more liberal leaning. Whereas the people I live near are mostly working class (nothing wrong with this just sharing differences), one income family (mostly SAHMs), super religious, Caucasian, conservative and many have drinking problems.
These are stark differences, and the issue is I can get along with everyone but when people completely bad mouth me (out of jealously or differences) it makes me not want to be apart of this community.
I truly want to move but my husband isn’t fully onboard (yet). I’m worried that his family and just this town in general will negatively impact our marriage because it’s negatively impacting me and my mental health.
For further perspective, for most of my life I used to live in a huge metropolitan area and was never depressed there. It’s so big and so diverse that no one is focusing on differences. All my friend there were all widely diverse (religion, race, education) and I’ve never experienced extreme petty cliques and gossiping (to this extent) over there. I miss my friends there. I miss the diversity. I miss being around people who are focused on their success and happiness and when we get together no one is talking smack and “bringing others down”.
Anyways, anyone been in a similar situation? I met a woman in New York City who said she left her husband because he wouldn’t move out of a small town in Ohio and eventually he followed her and the kids. I would hate to do that to my husband but I’m really worried about my mental well being here.
TLDR: small town gossip making wife depressed and wants to move. Husband doesn’t want to move. Wife worried town will ruin marriage.

2023.06.04 21:43 reishka Brand new custom tank already leaking
I moved house a few months ago, from a ranch style to an old colonial. I had to downgrade my 180, because there are no rooms with enough space to hold the 180, so I sold it to a lovely young person and her boyfriend. That tank was my dream tank, and even though it was going to a nice home, it still sucked to have to give it up.
In the new house, I ordered a custom 90 gallon to fit a very specific spot. It took three months to get here. It's been full of water for 17 days... It's on an appropriate stand, is level, has a pad between the tank and stand... Finally got it planted and all my livestock from the temporary tank put into it.
And last night, I hear the sound of rain in my living room. But it's strange, because it's not raining.... The seal between the front and side panel had broken, and there was a lively stream of water dousing my furniture. Luckily we were home and still awake, since this all happened around 10:30pm and that's right about the time I try to make it up to bed. Everyone's safe in a temporary 60g, thankfully.
Best part is, because the pad I used isn't 3/4 inch thick, I most likely won't be able to get warranty coverage to replace it. I half don't want to even replace it, because it'd be another three month waiting period to have it built and another absurd shipping fee to have it delivered (it was about 600$ the first time).
I'm tempted to reseal myself, but I've never done that before, so I'm not only afraid that I'm going to screw it up, but also mad that I'd have to do that on a brand new tank in the first place...
I almost just want to throw in the towel completely. Rehome my livestock, sell the plants. Having to give up my dream tank, then a brand new tank busting a seal, just has got me feeling really defeated.
Ugh, thanks for giving me a space to just get this out. I'm just wallowing, I'm sure it'll end up fine, it just doesn't feel like it right this moment

2023.06.04 21:42 isab4806 I 19F want different life than boyfriend 22M and don’t know if I should break up
So a little context: My boyfriend (22m) and I (19f) had been together for 1 1/2 years before I broke up with him last summer. I was going away for half a year and had been in and out of relationships for the past 3 years. So I needed time to figure myself out but I ended up having a thing with another guy. So I’m not really sure if I really got that time I needed. However after I got home again and startet a new job, I startet a thing with my ex again. I wasn’t sure of it and we were just “hanging out”. But I caught feelings again or they just resurfaced idk , but I ended up agreeing to a relationship again.
He makes me so so happy, we get along great, he treats me well and he’s besties with my mom too. So I wouldn’t say I’m unhappy at all in this relationship. But I can’t stop worrying about the future, because what I want and what he wants is so different.
I want an adventures life with lots of sailing and traveling while focusing on my career as a sailor as well. Which means I’m gone half the year and want to spent the other half exploring the word and studying. I just want more out of life then an office job and family life.
He’s however a welder and does want to travel but more like most people with a stationary job, once or twice a year. He’s also very family and friends oriented and doesn’t want to be far away from them. His hobbies are also cars and gaming and that’s mostly what he does with friends.
He loves his job and life where we are which makes me so happy but I feel like it holds me back. I want him with me for all of these adventures as selfish as it sounds, but I could never ask him to do that for me. I would never ask him to leave behind what makes him happy for me, but I don’t know how we could compromise in this situation. I just see myself living a regretful life with him in the long run but my love for him makes it hard.
It kinda feels like being stuck between what my heart and my brain wants. Advice?
(I know I’m young and have all the time in the word, I’m just at a place right now where I have the opportunity to start creating the life I want)
TL;DR I want a life always on the go exploring while boyfriend wants a stationary life with a house and everything. It’s a good relationship with lots of love but I want more. Break up or not?

"The bodies of Adam and Eve were overlaid with a horny skin that was as bright as daylight, like a luminescent garment".
In Ancient India this is also the description given of the Serpent people, benefactors & genetic engineers of humanity. (Bioluminescent i.e. they spontaneously emit light due to a chemical reaction in their body. This would explain the so-called “jewels of the Naga” that illuminates the netherworld. Bioluminescence is found in many deep sea fishes and other marine organisms like jellyfish, algae, bacteria etc., who emit light from their bodies that make the seas glow and glitter. This occurs due to the presence of a light-emitting molecule called luciferin, which produces light when it reacts with oxygen. Many organisms also produce the catalyst luciferase,
In both Sumer & the Jewish text we see the key role of the woman, who did nothing wrong, quite the contrary it is she who breathes the soul or psyche into man. Bit Shimti - "House where the wind of life is breathed in" - Ninmah is the proud mother the "essence" of the blood of a young Anunnaki male was mixed with the egg of a female hominid. The fertilized egg was then inserted into the womb of a female Anunnaki. When, after a tense waiting period, a "Model Man" was born, Ninmah held the newborn baby up and shouted: "I have created! My hands have made it!"[
Enki boasted, “A Civilized man I have brought forth. A new kind of Earthling from my seed has been created, in my image and after my likeness. From seed they from food will grow, from ewes sheep they will shepherd. For Gods, and offspring henceforth shall be satiated.“
In Genesis, it is understood that the Serpent speaks, and was of equal footing wth "God". We saw in the Nag Hammadi, and other ancient texts from around the world. He was also most notable, because he stood on 2 feet like man, and was even taller. The Sumerian term Annun-Aki meant 'tall ones', the height of the Serpent was equal to that of a camel. Chap 3 of Genesis the argument is given that man can't be one of US. He must not be allowed to eat from the tree & live forever". Even here you see they're brothers.
"Enki, the Lord of abundance, of trustworthy commands, The Lord of wisdom, who understands the land, The leader of the gods, Endowed with wisdom, the Lord of Eridu"...
It has always been Enli, the archons who aim to "destroy mankind in his psychological function". Later, it's Enlil who tries to force the other Authorities to keep the secret from mankind.
"Come, all of us, and take an oath regarding the killing Flood!" But as all the others took the oath, Enki resisted firmly. "I refuse. Why will you bind me with an oath?" he asked, "Am I to raise my hand against my own humans?" Meanwhile, our father Enki understands the importance of love and kindness to the raising of consciousness, he acts with kindness in defending humanity and dealing with all the life on the planet.
Ninmah The Ninhursag , an mother of humanity is shown with humanity at her breast. The priesthood of Sumer & Egypt were Dolichocephalic, like mother. the Serpent Cults today still maintains the pure bloodlines that were mandated after the deluge.)
She was the goddess of the stony, rocky ground, the hursag. The H symbol, i described at all the sacred "navel' sites, especially Göbekli Tepe, Puma Punku, has the same meaning. The serpent always represents spiritual wisdom, life and healing. The first symbols of serpents were attributed to Enki or NU.DIM.MUD (Nudimmud), "He Who Fashions Thing and then Ninhursag.("Whose House Is Water") .
Nag hammadi-Origin of our World The text describes Ninti 'let fall a droplet of light, it flowed onto the water, and immediately a human being appeared, being androgynous. That droplet she molded first as a female body. Afterwards, using the body she molded it in the likeness of the mother, which had appeared. This was Eve of Life namely, the female instructor of life. Her offspring is the creature that is lord. Afterwards, the authorities called it "Beast", so that it might lead astray their modelled creatures. (The interpretation of "the beast" is "the instructor". For it was found to be the wisest of all beings.)"
"
Then each of them cast his sperm into the midst of the navel of the earth fashioned man with his body resembling their body. His modelling took place by parts, one at a time. And their leader fashioned the brain and the nervous system. Afterwards, he appeared as prior to him. He became a soul-endowed man"
"when the Authorities (Yahweh) had saw Adam/Eve transgressed their rule it came upon them an earthquake and a great threat, to see the result of the help that was give. Their eyes were blinded by him so they were not able to do anything to him. They merely cursed him, since they were powerless. And everything that they created they cursed. There is no blessing from them. Good cannot come from evil."
"Since that day the authorities knew that truly there was something stronger than they. They would not have known except that their commandment was broken. They brought a great envy into the world only because of the immortal human."
Enki possessed the secret of me, 'culture, civilization', which is the genius of progress in knowledge to lead humanity. He invented civilization for the people and assigned to each his destiny. He created order in the cosmos. He filled the rivers with fish. He invented the plough and the yoke so that farmers could till the earth with oxen. In the most recent thread you see each ruler from Egypt to Pharoah carries the plough, the Serpent Priest would assist the Pharoah who was in charge of a successful harvest. "Master Servant " was the Pharoah
"Enki made the grain grow. He is the father of all plants.” Of course he wanted his children to eat from the Tree of knowledge, With the Tree of Knowledge humans had the chance to figure out everything on their own in time, to be as equal or better than him, as any parent wants for there child. . Had they eaten only from the Tree of Life, they would live but not have been more the wiser.
Why should acquiring knowledge be a sin?" (the original sin) and comparing it to modern day observations ought to wake you up to the fact that you live within societal system that was engineered by the members of "God" to empower themselves while keeping those who live within it ignorant The sacred waters of knowledge had a double meaning, it represents both the creationof the human body(mostly water) & it is talking about the water carried by the Sages in places like La Mana, Ecuador. This water has amazing healing properties, it is apart of ritual today in the Llanganates for visiting initiates. Indigenous elders working with the scientific community have had fascinating results.
Electrum Water Hiv nanoparticles Silver "he interaction of nanoparticles with biomolecules and microorganisms is an expanding field of research. Wis. In this work, we demonstrate that silver nanoparticles undergo a size-dependent interaction with HIV-1, with nanoparticles exclusively in the range of 1-10nm attached to the virus"
The Dogon call our Master Teachers, The Monitors, Nummo also meanw 'to make one drink'(water of wisdom). The Hebrews termed these Watchers as nun resh’ayin, meaning “those who watch.” In the Greek this is translated as gigantes or giants, a race that even the 907 B.C. writer Hesiod featured as being monstrous (due to their serpentine aspect no doubt). Now we can understand the role of the giants 2 seen across the world of ancient script in respect to the presence of the Watchers.
The Apkallu, these priest of Enki i wrote about in the last thread, the genetic, archaeologicalevidence has shown R1b-V88 & R1b-M269 were associated with agriculture, cattle domestication, metal working, language, geopolymer construction, everywhere a Pyramid or Navel was Built the Mende/Yoruba & the Austro-Melanesian
Pacific Islander Ghost Hominids dna dna is found. The Aunu/Anu people migrated across the globe.
Göbekli Tepe The human ummânū is attested in the Uruk List of Kings and Sages, while other references to bird-apkallū are legion
The purādu-fish apkallū is principally attested in Berossus. These seven were each advisers for seven different kings and therefore result in two different lists, one of kings and one of apkallu. Neither the sages nor the kings in these lists were genealogically related however. Apkallu and human beings were presumably capable of conjugal relationships since after the flood, the myth states that four apkallu appeared. These were part human and part Apkallu, and included Nungalpirriggaldim, Pirriggalnungal, Pirriggalabsu, and Lu-nana who were only two-thirds ApkalluKundalini is the spiritual energy or life force present in every human being, located at the base of the spine.
They were believed to have apotropaic qualities, guarding the home from evil.
Sages FigurinesThe three types of apkallū are portrayed, with the human ummânū at far left, the Nisroc bird-apkallū type in the middle, and the antediluvian purādu-fish type at far right.
3 Apkallu Remember that it was the woman who was Pharoah, her consort became king. Egypt, like most of the most sophisticated ancient civilizations were ruled by women. Ninhursags the Goddess of the stony, rocky ground that masons use to spiritually ascend higher, the H at Göbekli Tepe & Puma Punku represents mother. 'As above(ninmah), So below(Enki)'. The underworld was never a negative place before the Romans. The Pyramid, the Great house was the Woman's house. Sumerian text speak of the foundation being the stone & the water just as the Pyramid text of Saqqara. The Sumerian E.KUR - "House Which is Like a Mountain." Pyramid was put under the patronage of Ninharsag.in hymns shes recognized as mistress of the "House With a Pointed Peak" - a pyramid. CoffinText 313:Horus says "I created my Eye in flame, I made my Eye a living serpent". Remember, the serpent he saw was bipedal, always. As Robert Monroe reported in the Gateway Experiments.
"House bright and dark of Heaven and Earth, for the rocketships put together; E.KUR, House of the Gods with pointed peak; For Heaven-to-Earth it is greatly equipped. House whose interior glows with a reddish Light of Heaven, a beam of energy of creation which reaches far and wide; Its awesomeness touches the flesh. Awesome ziggurat, lofty mountain of mountains - Thy creation is great and lofty, men cannot understand it"
'House of Equipment, lofty house of Eternity: Its foundation are stones [which reach] the water; Its great circumference is set in the clay. House whose parts are skilfully woven together; House, the rightness of whose howling The Great-Ones-Who-See-and-Orbit brings down the rest . . . Mountain by which Utu ascends. [House] whose deep insides men cannot penetrate . . . Anu has magnified it.
In the Testament of Amram 2 men who resembling Living Serpents were seen fighting over him in his dream-vision. Even in ancient Text later we see "battles of the Gods', but in the very beginning We see the genius, Enki described as a kind, amicable child ONLY gets aggressive when his brother comes to harm his creation. Most importantly, Enlil & his realized he was powerless when Humanity had Enki by their side. So, his campaign was to disconnect us from that knowledge starting with the Bible & the Inquisition, they killed, raped, burned all of the knowledge that had allowed mankind to thrive.. then stashes the rest away, keeping it from the people.
Dagon Catholicism -In Egypt Ptah as Ea/Enki (Sumer he's also a cthonic diety "The Artful Creator") and Ra as his Firstborn son.
After Anu, Enlil, Enki and Ninmah had fashioned the black-headed people, Vegetation that is fruitful they multiplied in the land... In the Edin they placed them..
The descendants of Ham ("He Who is Hot" and also "The Dark-Hued One").... correspond to the African nation-lands of Nubia, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Lybia as the core nations of African resettlement, again beginning with the topographically higher areas..They were the Dogon, Hopis ancestors.. The ancient Chinese or Bak tribesmen which dominate China today called the Elamites KASHTI. Moreover, in the Bible the Book of Jeremiah (xlxx,35), we read "bow of Elam". It is interesting to note that both Khaltam-ti and Kashti as the name for Elam, agrees with Ta-Seti, the ancient name for Nubia located in the Meroitic Sudan.

Alchemy as Taught by Children of Enki Antediluvian Kings of Sumer were known as Kings of Kush".the major Kushite tribe in Central Asia was called Kushana. The Kushan of China were styled Ta Yueh-ti or "the Great Lunar Race". Along the Salt Swamp, there was a state called Ku-Shih of Tibet. The city of K-san, was situated in the direction of Kushan, which was located in the Western part of the Gansu Province of China.
Here we find the divine decrees presented by Enki to Inanna are those referring to lordship, godship, the exalted and enduring crown, the throne of kingship, the exalted scepter, the exalted shrine, shepherdship, kingship, the numerous priestly offices, truth, descent into the nether world and ascent from it, the music From the tree in the Mesopotamian depiction hang two pieces of fruit. To the right of the tree is the half-moon symbol of Ea; to the left is the planet symbol of Anu.
Lastly the pineal gland(pine cone). In India it is a stick of bamboo with seven knots… which represents the spinal column with its seven centers or chakras… It also indicated the spinal cord…while the serpents were symbolical of the two channels called in Eastern terminology Ida and Pinagala; and the fire enclosed within it was the serpent-fire which in Sanskrit is called kundalini." Even the natural behaviors of the pine cone have an esoteric meaning:
"as it ripens, the pine cone slowly opens to release its mature seeds."
This process is symbolic of the expansion of consciousness that accompanies the opening of the pineal gland and the awakening of the Third Eye. The metaphor is a valuable and stimulating mental lesson of an esoteric phenomenon that cannot otherwise be seen or explained since it occurs inside the brain..
The One sure way, and what's been happening wthin the last century especially is to keep knowledge away from the human race. If we as a collective are so ingrained in our beliefs, how can we ever be open to new ideas pertaining to the nature of reality?

2023.06.04 21:34 MammothTension Am I too easy to break under stress for thinking to quit a job so easily.
I just joined a new company this February and going to start my fifth month there. Currently I'm still under probation because the company's probation period is 6 months instead of 3. Weirdly enough, I'm already thinking whether I should resign because I find that the task assigned are never ending.
The company I joined is a Singapore company based in Malaysia. When I interview for their IT helpdesk I didn't thought the demand for IT knowledge is so high as they are just a palm oil company. From my perspective, the company's IT department is quite professional which can be compare with normal software houses. The IT department consist of 4 teams, one to deal with documents, one to do the coding, one to maintain the infrastructure (such as maintain database and granting permission) and one to deal with hardware.
Myself dropped under the document department and my jobscope mainly consists of 3 types. There's helpdesk ticket which most of the time are minor issues and only have a time period of 24 hours (if you close the ticket longer than that, you'll have to state your reason for complete it so late). There's request, which the user will raise a thing we call request and state their purpose in it (adding new columns in a report, adding a new field in a system, creating a new custom program). And than there's project, where it counts as our KPI and will affect our bonus. The users that we dealt with are all internal staff which means staff from the same company but different department. My team currently consist of a manager, 2 teamlead, 2 senior and 2 junior (excluding me). But by the end of this month the number will reduce as 1 of the teamlead and 1 of the senior has already resign.
First, let's talk about the ticket, due to only have a shelf life of 24 hours, naturally this is the most urgent but that's not the case for most of the time. If the issue is something I dealt before, of course I can solve it in an instance. But as this is real life, most of the time the issues are something I haven't dealt with before. Therefore, I have to do testing in the test environment to simulate the issue and identify the solution. Sometimes, you can simulate it easily, but sometimes it took me days and I still couldn't figure out what causes the problem. That's why, most of the time, the 24 hour limitation is absolutely not enough for us to solve the issue as there's too many matter delay the deadline. It can be after you inform the user of the solution and ask them to test it out, but they don't reply you at all. It can be you took too long to identify the solution. It can be you need to cooperate with other team and they just don't have the time or just don't want to help you.
For solving a ticket there's a few scenario. 1st scenario: the document team solve the issue successfully and inform the user of the solution where they don't need anyone's help. 2nd scenario: it is due to lack of permission and need the infrastructure team's help to setup or grant permission to the user. 3rd scenario: it is a program bug and need the help of the coding team to solve the issue and need the infrastructure team to put the solution into the live server.
Besides the 1st scenario, you need the help of others and most of the time they are not keen to help. If they are in a good mood, they would help you solve it right away. Else, they'll throw the ball around like asking you to wait for approval or asking you to seek the help of others. All this while, the user will keep haunting you asking when their issue can be solve.
Next, we'll talk about the request, the request give you more time to solve but also much more complicated. The reason we are call document team is because when doing request, we have to communicate with user to understand what they want and prepare the documents respectively. Same as solving ticket, your document might get throwing like a ball around for most of the time. It's normal to see that after you done your document and submit to the coder for technical review, they'll just put there for a few days and reject/approve it right before Monday morning's weekly meeting. By doing so, during the meeting briefing, they'll just update that they already past the documents back to us and throw the ball back to us.
Besides that, as I mentioned earlier, my team currently consist of 2 teamlead one male and one female. Strangely enough, the female teamlead's jobscope is same as us, solving ticket and request. While the male teamlead, don't know who gave him that kind power, only assign tasks to others and nearly didn't handle everything at all. This is also something my senior like to gossip about, being sarcastic saying that the guy is handicap and his hands have broken so he can only assign job to others but won't handle some himself. For recent case, the female teamlead has resign, and for the handover, my manager ask him and another one of my senior to learn things from her. While she's teaching, that guy keep asking my senior to pay attention, even though is teaching his part. My senior already mentally prepare that after the handover he will just give all his task to my senior and won't handle it himself just like what he normally does. During the meeting, when we talk about that some system no one knows but him and he is the expert, he'll be saying some irresponsible things like: "I'm not pro at all", "If I did it wrongly don't blame me", "abc is better than me, you guys should ask him/her". The reason that I say his answer is irresponsible is because in the past, if we said we don't know he'll scold us very hard and tell us that don't know is not an option and we must learn. But then he answer he don't know all the time.
Since my manager and him not handling any task actively, this make the remaining of us to handle those request. By the time this month end, there only been four of us left and the manpower is really shorthanded. From what I heard from my manager, the request are assign in a round robin manner. Currently the main problem that we are facing is there's too many request and all of them are urgent. Each of us handling at least 10 request currently and nearly 9/10 of the requests are urgent. I found that the so called urgent request normally falled into 3 groups. Number one, it's really urgent and need to do it fast. Number two, it's urgent no matter the issue is urgent or not because it was raised by some VVIP (such as CEO, Senior Manager, CFO, COO...). Number three, it's urgent because the user sent out an email stating it urgent and demand to do it immediately. Most of the time, the request that are urgent falls under number two and three, yet our higher management just choose to appeal those people and ask us to hand it faster. Project is something similar to request just that it affect our bonus more. Request is helping people solve their issue and project is mainly create something new to show the management that we are also innovative.
This causes an issue as we have tickets that we need to solve under 24 hours, and then we have more than 10 request with nearly 90% of it stated as urgent. The higher management of the department not only won't help us by rejecting some insignificant request but constantly scolding or gaslighting us during the daily meeting.
It is a normal scenery in our meeting when my manager ask why the ticket is so many and nobody solving it, when we reply we are busy with the request she would say please remember that the ticket need to be solved in 24 hours. Then during next meeting, when we update that there's no progress on the request due to busy solving the tickets. She would said those are urgent please solve it quickly.
I've asked my manager this question, so as my senior asked her before: "Which is more important and which should we solved first? Is it the tickets, the requests or the project?" Unsurprisingly, she also don't know what to answer. In the end, I remember she replying: "Make sure you know what is the priority." WTF, how the fuck should I know which is prioritize when even you guys also don't know which is more important. No matter which we handle, we always get blame that the other isn't done.
As the new guy in my team, I found that I was forced to learn all the system. This might sound normal to you as all the staff should familiar with all systems in order to support the users. But the truth is, I found that my teammate that are also young in the company (working 1 year or less) having the same issue as me. But for senior teammates, they know only some but not all of the system. I was told that in the past, all staff only support their own company, this mean that Singapore staff only support Singapore and Malaysia staff only support Malaysia. This mean that some of the system only use in Singapore and some only in Malaysia. But now, the company changes their policy and everyone supports each other. This force the new join staff to learn system from both sides as the senior staff don't want to learn new things. Most of my seniors criticize that now they have to support other subsidiary. Because from my site, the number of user raising request is very low compare to other site due to good control. Therefore it felt like a bit unfair and felt like we constantly have to help other site wipe their ass due to they accept all the request without controlling.
In the end, my current working attitude already changed. Since it's impossible to settle the ticket in 24 hours, I just ignore the deadline. Since all request is urgent, then nothing is urgent. I just do it in my own pace. When get scolded just let it flew by my ears and don't let it affect my emotion. When the day is done, just go home after all the job can never be done. These are my protocol currently but I'm afraid that I won't be able to hold to it too long.
I'm thinking of whether I should hand in my resignation letter since my probation haven't end yet and my notice period is only 2 weeks. If I become a permanent staff, my notice period will become 2 months. It might be I was affected by others. During April, one of the colleague has left, right before getting the bonus. Then, from what I know, there's a total of 5 staff going to leave the IT department during June, with a notice period of 2 months, this mean they hand in their resignation letter right after they got their bonus. Staff that left the company ranging from those who worked for more than 10 years to those that worked for around 2 years. I asked my seniors that worked here more than 10 years that is it normal to having 6 staff leaving? They told me this is their first time seeing so many people resigning and the year still half to go. Maybe by the end of the year, the number already raise to 10.
So, what do you think. Is it that I plan to hand in the resignation letter so easily proof that I can't deal with stress?

2023.06.04 21:28 Gullible_Street_3091 Is anyone else’s SO completely unphased by their kids’ behavior in public/on outings?
My SS is just about 3 and he is miserable to take….pretty much anywhere. Horrible behavior, doesn’t listen, whining and crying about absolutely everything. It’s not enjoyable to take him anywhere. Restaurants, shopping, vacations, boating, camping…things we used to love. I don’t enjoy our outings together anymore because it’s 75% tantrums and it’s grating on both of us.
My SO seems completely unphased by this. It does not deter him from wanting to go do things. It’s like he has short term memory and forgets, and even in the moment it doesn’t stop him from enjoying the day. He just took his son fishing (by themselves) for 5-6 hours and I KNOW he would be an absolute nightmare by the end of it, but he will still be out all day. The heat, a tiny boat, no nap….I shudder. I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Does anyone else’s SO seem to have an unlimited fuse with their little kids behavior? I would just prefer staying home at this point, but he doesn’t even seem to acknowledge or register that he makes things so difficult and unenjoyable.
****ALSO, I love him and the kid he’s just at a difficult age right now and I know that. It’s not like I can’t handle it, because it’s a phase and it will pass, but I am curious if other parents of young children have the same blinders on.

2023.06.04 21:27 genandnic My Dad had $10,000 Stolen from His Bank Account While He Was Hospitalized
So here's my situation. My Dad (65) recently passed away after being in the hospital with pneumonia for a couple of months. Since the beginning of this year he's had a friend living in the same retirement community as him helping him out, by buying groceries, using his car and using my both of my Dad's debit and credit cards.
Last month my Dad was at home by himself and he had a respritory attack in which he couldn't breathe, so he called 911 and was admitted to the hospital.
After a few days at the hospital they put him in a pulmonary therapy clinic for a month, his friend, to my knowledge, was still running errands for him at this point and was still helping him anyway he could.
After about 33 days at the clinic I guess my Dad was not feeling like he was getting the help he needed. So his buddy picked him up from the therapy, after my Dad released himself, and took him home.
They were there for maybe 3 to 4 hours, before his buddy went to his house to get something, and then came back saw my Dad slumped over barely breathing. He tried to help him any way he could but he couldn't, so they had to call EMS to come pick him up and take him back to the hospital.
Since then he's basically been in the ICU for 3 weeks or more, during which time he was heavily sedated and intubated; only being able to communicate comprehensively for about 1 or 2 days at most.
Eventually, my Dad passed away, and we came to find out that this guy has had my Dad's debit card for the last three weeks he was in the ICU, so we went to his house and he gave us the debit card back and my Dad's PIN number. Since I am my Dad's son, I went online and called the bank, going over all the transactions for the last 3 weeks, and to my dismay I found there were almost $10,000 in ATM withdrawals, fees, walmart, Citgo gas, amazon, etc, made in the last week while my Dad was on his deathbed. There is no chance that my Dad has even spoken to this guy since then, being in what is essentially a coma in the last few weeks of his life.
Right now, I am back in Texas with my family and he is still in Florida; planning for his cremation and funeral while also trying to figure out how to get that $10,000 back as soon as possible. There's no telling how much of my Dad's finances this guy has access to at this point. Any advice on my situation would be appreciated. Thanks.
