I know the title is a little bit out there, but if it catches your eye we probably have a similar sense of humor. I'm not the most normal guy so I feel like I would get along better with someone who is a little different.
I'm aware that I come off as pretty dry and sarcastic, maybe also a tad stoic. I've found that I get along with people who are the opposite of that. Energetic, bubbly, people that, you know, seem alive. But I can also vibe with someone exactly like me, sometimes it's fun to be super nihilistic and depressing with others. Right?
I'd like someone I can be myself around, and talk about absolutely everything. Someone who will tag along when I venture down rabbitholes and I can annoy with the constant stream of bad jokes that comes out of my mouth. I'm not looking for a serious relationship, more of a strong connection/friendship. I guess what I really want is someone who will accept me as I am, but I do understand that I'm not everyone's cup of tea so I won't hold it against you if things don't work out. But I would like someone who is willing to put in the effort with me.
I'm into all your standard shit. Books, movies, video games. I hope all of that stuff will come up naturally in conversation when we share our passions and that jazz. But I will list some of the odd stuff I like. For instance, I love the sound of walking through freshly fallen snow. Especially if it's at night and everything is quiet and peaceful. That gets me hard. Emotionally. I also enjoy challenging myself both physically and mentally and long for that feeling of accomplishment. That's probably not healthy but we can talk about that after childhood trauma and daddy issues in our therapy sessions. I mean chats.
If this sounds like your jam and you think you'd get along with a sarcastic, nerd-looking but with dumb tattoos guy let me know. More than willing to swap pictures (both face and butthole) or move to another platform for voice chats and movie nights.

I feel like I’ve always been able to sense positive and negative energy from an early age even when I’m alone but last night it was like someone turned up my senses to 11.
To give some context, I was just hanging out not “trying to open my 3rd eye” I did take an edible (cannabis) to relax like usual on a weekend. Soon after it hit me I was starting to see colors.
At first it felt good, the colors felt like family or pets that have passed away. The familiar spirits seemed to identify themselves by either showing me their silhouette or their favorite color.
This goes on for a while and I’m ecstatic that they would check up on me. Then everything shifts and it’s like a rainbow of different colored auras and it started to become overwhelming and scary. I felt like something was trying to maliciously reach through and scare me. Either with horror movie like monster images in my head or trying to slowly whisper in my ears.
This terrified me and I couldn’t figure out how to dismiss the negative energies/spirits. So I tried to tell them to fuck off and go away but they wouldn’t. I luckily found a YouTube video that had an energy cleansing audio to help a bit. I was finally able to fall asleep.
Any advice or guidance for if/when this happens again I won’t be so terrified would be greatly appreciated.
TLDR: had an overwhelming spiritual experience and would like some resources on how to handle this if it happens again.

I was paralyzed with fear as the reflection-like entity hovered menacingly in front of me. Its distorted features twisted into a grotesque smile, the malice in its voice cutting through the air like a chilling breeze.
"Who are you?" I managed to stammer, my voice barely audible. My heart pounded in my chest, threatening to burst through my ribcage. The reflection-like figure tilted its head, its eyes gleaming with a sinister light. "I am nothing but an Echo," it whispered, the words slithering into my ears like venomous serpents.
I jolted upright, gasping for breath. Sweat drenched my forehead as I realized it had all been a nightmare—a vivid and horrifying dream. I glanced around my room, seeking solace in the familiar surroundings. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The moonlight streaming through the window cast an eerie glow, intensifying my unease.
As I sat up, my eyes were drawn to the mirror on the opposite wall. I stared at my reflection, half-expecting to see the monster from my nightmare. But the mirror only reflected my own terrified expression. Taking a deep breath, I tried to convince myself that it was all just a product of an overactive imagination. In a panic, I reached for the lamp, desperate to dispel this nightmarish apparition. But as the light illuminated the room, the reflection vanished. I jolted upright, gasping for breath once again. "Was I still dreaming?" I pondered, my heart pounding in my chest. The room was bathed in the comforting glow of the lamp, and everything seemed normal. Had it all been just another nightmare within a nightmare? It felt so real, so vivid, but perhaps my mind was playing tricks on me once again. I took a moment to catch my breath, trying to steady my trembling hands. But as I surveyed the room, something caught my eye—the mirror was still cracked... This was a chilling reminder that the nightmare had not just been a terrible fever dream.
I rid my house of all mirrors in a desperate attempt to maybe sever its connection to my reality, and for a couple of weeks, it seemed to have worked. During that time, my life had returned to normal. The nightmares had ceased, and I began to believe that maybe the mirror itself was cursed, a gateway through which the malevolent entity had entered my life.
After a particularly exhausting day, I decided to indulge in a relaxing bath. The warm water enveloped me, easing away the stress of the day. I closed my eyes, allowing my mind to drift. As I opened my eyes, I caught a glimpse of movement in the water. My heart skipped a beat as I saw my reflection, distorted and shifting beneath the ripples. Panic surged through me, and I tried to look away, but something held my gaze.
My own eyes stared back at me from the depths of the water. The twisted reflection grinned with the same malevolent smile. It whispered in a voice that squirmed throughout my skin, "Did you miss me?"

Hello. Looking for an opinion here for someone who isn’t too knowledgeable in data recovery. My 2013 iMac was plugged into a wall outlet (my first mistake, no surge protector, I know). My 4 year old took the small end of a lightning iPhone charger (which was currently plugged into the back of my computer) and jammed it into the electrical outlet, causing a power surge and sparks and such. Luckily he was ok. However now my computer is seemingly fried and won’t turn on. I assume for such an old computer, it may not be worth it to repair and maybe I should try to just recover the data. I know data recovery is expensive. It’s mostly just personal photos, videos, and documents and nothing for work. What do you think my best options are? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

There is a major problem here and that is the idea that we need to achieve energy abundance and international cooperation before we get ASI. Essentially, you are saying that if we don't achieve utopia before we get ASI then we are almost certain to get dystopia and extinction. Given that there is an absolutely zero percent chance we get there in the next 20 years and a practically zero chance we get there in the next 100 years, does this mean that the only solution is to completely stop all progress on AI immediately before we reach the typing point where the AI can improve itself?
We are already very close to, and have perhaps already passed, the point at which an AI is capable of being given agency and doing its own AI research. Granted, the most powerful and capable models are affiliated with large companies as they cost a lot to run but both anthropic and OpenAI were small shops before they produced their big model and Google and Microsoft invested in them rather than built them. So it is clear that a small shop can build a powerful AI and we are shrinking these models everyday through better chips and better algorithms. At some point in the very near future you will be able to build an AGI on a system that is affordable for a single household (i.e. costs as much as a house).
If you combine these two ideas, that we need to achieve utopia before we get ASI and that we'll be capable of building ASI (or at least starting it) within the next decade, the only possible solution is to institute a complete ban on computer progress. This would likely also need to be a ban on physics and other science as those can lead to breakthroughs that make computing cheaper and they will need more compute power to continue advancing. A ban this powerful, and world wide, will of necessity be one of the most ubiquitous police states in the world and will rival North Korea. The additional problem is that once you give the government the power to regulate any science or research, including hobbyists, then you have given so much power to the state that corruption is inevitable.
This world, where we stop AI now, is the dystopia we fear. We are proposing to build the very monster we fear in order to save us from itself.
I don't think it is possible to build the utopia until we have the AGI (or something close to it). I look at Marx for this. The economics of a society shape its power system. In a capitalist economy you have a few factors which shape or economy. The first is the division between labor and capital. The tools to produce value are expensive and difficult to obtain. Initially you needed massive factories and tracts of land. This limited ownership to all but the very few. For everyone else to survive, they needed to hitch themselves as laborers to one of these owners.
As time has increased technology has grown to reduce the amount of capital you need to create wealth. The FANG companies were funded by small entrepreneurs with home equipment. They did, however, have to attract large investments to grow. Silicon valley maintains this trend where amazing new tools (and really shitty ones) are created by individuals but that big capital is needed to rev them up. This is why the capitalist system maintains itself.
AGI is extra powerful because it allows a single person to do so much. (This is assuming AGI that is capable of replacing human labor but still needs human initiative.) This becomes more true as we move AI from million dollar super computers into people's homes. The individual will be able to compete on an unheard of level. The Internet tools that we all use will be replicable by any individual. Big investors won't be able to keep up as by the time they finish the paperwork to invest a new competitor has already shot up. Additional advances, like ubiquitous 3D printing, configurable factories, and eventually nano-replicators, will help eliminate the grip of physical manufactures.
As the capability gap between the investor class and the working class shrinks, the investor class will lose their power. A post-scarcity world will emerge, though it will likely involve many bloody conflicts. AGI is a primary tool we need to make this happen and so it, necessarily, must come before the utopia but after it. A hyper intelligent AI will be able to assess the situation and help us navigate towards the better society.
This is why, my theory is that the best method to build a utopian society is to get powerful AI into the hands of as many people as possible.

Using basic video evidence we can clearly see that the Old Steam VGUI is faster, DESPITE the fact that I opened up resource intensive tabs and Discord on the old VGUI benchmark in Firefox, compared to just having blank Firefox open with the New Chromium-Based UI.
What a huge disappointment considering that this abomination is what they're killing off Windows 7 and the old lightweight framework (No more skinning, too!) for.
The sad part is that Valve's soy-dev UI designers don't bother to listen to ANY criticism regarding their "redesign" because they can't get in any trouble over it.
Steam is supposed to be a lightweight client that does nothing but launch games and chat with friends, not a bloated monster wanting to shove bright colors and fancy animations in your face, running processes 24/7..

I love the breakdowns and it's awe-inspiring how much time, effort and thought was put in the other series on the channel. 'And Beyond' itself stands apart in it's quality from all fan content in most fandoms not just Ben 10.
But I've wanted to talk about a thing in the breakdowns that I've wanted to for a long time now.
How the importance category doesn't really make a lot of sense. Given how Ben 10 is an episodic series for the most part it already wasn't poised to take a lot of points. But given the description of the category and how episodes get rated based on how important the episodes are to get a feel for Ben 10 as a show it still doesn't work on that level.
All the high intensity story episodes get high importance ratings but it isn't like they give the essence of what the series is actually like. The shows indulge in a lot of down time or random adventures.
Like 'Video Games' is an excellent example for the basic UAF era episode. It has great banter, one of the best Gwen-Ben heart to heart conversations, boatload of transformations, fun fights that aren't all about punching really hard.
In my opinion what makes a Ben 10 story a Ben 10 story is

1. Character based banter and humour- When the humour isn't about witnessing something whacky or any sort of physical comedy but it's derived from dialogue about who the characters actually are, their attitude and actions.
2. Creative problem solving- Essentially whenever the solution to any given problem isn't just about hitting too hard or shooting too hard but utilizing powers and abilities in unique ways or combinations to end the conflict.
3. Non super villains- When monster or villain of the weak isn't a marvel or DC style costume wearing enemy but just someone doing their job, living their life or hunting the main characters for prior offence.
4. Educating of Ben - It's always been a show about Ben growing into a better person or more like his mentors. When he's 10, he learns lessons that let him grow into a teenager and when he's 15/16 it's him adulting. Any episode that reinforces this theme is good.
5. Aliens- More than interacting with aliens or visiting alien worlds, it is essential for a Ben 10 story to have him transform into an alien. The more the merrier but even better if the transformation uses pre-existing abilities in creative ways.

I'd wager it's a must see in any rewatch of the series but in the breakdown system it gets 0 in importance. Even though despite it filling the basics it also houses the continuing appearances of Will Harangue, a character that stays relevant to the series even till Omniverse. I'd say the same for 'Hero Time' too which is an awesome episode.
