Hi. I'm 23 yo female and he is a 24 yo male. We're both uni students but we both live and study in different cities, 200 km apart. We first met at the new year's party in 2021/2022 thanks to our common friends and got together in July 2022 (yup, we were just about to celebrate our first years anniversary when he broke things up).
So long story short, we had this long distance relationship where at the beginning, we had the most dreamy summer, both crazy in love, where we could see each other pretty often considering it was still long distance. I remember being worried about not seeing him for 9 nights. That just seems so funny now.
The summer ended and we both went back to school. During the winter semester, we'd meet like once every two weeks taking turns at who would drive to who. Some problems started to show tho. I got attached to him in an unhealthy way and would make it very difficult for both of us to make it through those two weeks every time. I'd get emotional and cry when he was leaving and make him feel bad. I admit that was quite a lot of pressure and now I known I don't want to be like that ever again.
I also wouldn't get on well with his friends, which I later figured was because I saw them as someone I had to fight with to win his attention. I have a lot of anxiety and bruised image of my self worth and that just made me feel like I needed him to make me feel wanted and loved at all times. I couldn't give any of that to myself and that's why all of this toxic behaviour would show.
I didn't know why I was like that. I always felt like I was the victim. He still loved me and wanted to fight for this relationship tho. There were months that were better and ones that were worse.
Another problem that came up was money and him having no time for himself. Constantly travelling to see your s.o. doesn't give you much time to go to work during weekends or to just spend time alone. It also costs a lot of money and each month, he was doing worse and worse financially and would get really stressed about it. During summer, he had just me and his job but then he also had to fit school in there. And gym. And friends. And it was just too much to handle. And I wasn't making it any easier for him with my emotional tantrums.
On the other hand, he wasn't great at communicating his feelings and weaknesses and he never told me it was so bad he was considering a breakup. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Whenever he complained about not having enough time to socialise, I asked if he still wanted to spend time with me and he'd say yes. Whenever I'd question myself wondering if he really wanted to be with me, he'd say yes. He specifically said that he loved me with all of my quirks and insecurities and that I was worth the fight.
So last week on Thursday, it was a really tough day for me. It was the day before one of my exams when I had to literally learn the whole semester in one day.
On this same day, he told me he wanted to go to work abroad for a full month during the summer, which I didn't take very well. I admit. It took me off the guard and it made me quite mad that he wouldn't even consult with me or try to look for a way we could at least see each other during that month. Summer was the only time of the year we could actually spend some time together, after all..
then my roommate told me she was gonna move out and that I'd have to get a new roommate. That made the whole thing even worse and I got really emotional and angry that nothing was going my way. Again, my unhealthy toxic patterns showing up. I know that.
He'd tell me I had nothing to be mad about, that nothing bad was happening to me, just people around me were living their own lives. It was true but that made it even worse. Also it was the first day of my period. Lol.
So that night he texted me he wanted to end things. He said the long distance wasn't great for either of us and that recently he felt like the relationship was taking more from us than giving.
He said he needed to take some time for himself, to make some money, focus on his studies and that he won't have the capacity to take care of anybody else but him.
He never said how much time it was supposed to be. He said he didn't want to hurt me and that he still cared about me deeply.
On Saturday that week, he came to visit me personally to talk things over and end it the right way, not over the phone. I told him things I realized and apologized for manipulating him with my tears. I told him I was ready to work on myself and that now it would definitely work, because i didn't fully realize it all before. Before I thought I was the victim and now I knew I wasn't.
He said he appreciated it but that he couldn't change his mind at that specific time. He made it clear that he really needed some space. He made me promise I wouldn't do anything stupid and that I'd treat myself well and not beat myself up, since recently we noticed, that whenever I was frustrated, I'd punch my thighs until I'd have bruises all over them and struggle to walk. He made me promise I'd be okay.
He kissed me goodbye which even gave him a hard-on lol. I even asked if we couldn't sleep together but he said no because he believed it would made things worse for him and probably also for me. But he admitted, that we should talk about this and could consider some kind of sexual relationship later once we both take some time for ourselves. I said I'd like that. Because I mean, yeah..
so he left me but I saw love and pain in his eyes as he went. He even admitted that maybe we just had a bad timing and would get back together some other time because he really cared about me. He wouldn't say he loved me on that day tho. And he made it very clear that he wasn't making any promises. He wouldnt even accept taking a break instead of breaking up.
We talked a bit over chat for the first two or three days. I went to our common friend's place to have someone to hold me at night because I was so down. Since then we haven't spoken tho. He texted me good luck for my exam and I'll probably text him the same when the date of his comes, but that's all.
I'm really trying to give him space he asked for.
We're most probably going to meet at the very end of July because we both finish our exams on this day and both are going to work at the same festival. so I'll probably ask him to give me a ride out of purely practical reasons. Untill then, if he doesn't reach out, I'll try not to.
Also a little extra fact that might help you make a better picture of his feelings towards me: he never cries. In front of anyone. Yet, he cried in front of me. Not about fear of losing me. About a whole different thing that I never thought I'd see him cry about, because he just thought it made him look wear and didn't want to cry in front of anyone. yet he did because he trusted me so much.
Anyway. I just wanted to know if you think there is a realistic possibility that we will get back together.
I'm working on my toxic traits very actively and I think I'm getting better at letting people live their lives without feeling like the main character all the time. I don't even know how I could live for 23 years acting like a stupid brat and I'm so sorry. But I realised my wrong and I'm trying.
I learnt that I don't need him and that I'm going to be just fine on my own. But that doesn't mean I don't want him you know.. so what do you think?
He never said he was breaking up with me because I was toxic. He said it was because of the timing, distance and money. I was the one who started to apologize because I thought I ruined everything by being the way I was. He never admitted that my behaviour added up to his reasons tho.
Is there anything I could do other than no contact to make him start missing me?

I (34f) have been working full time since early 2019, before that I was in college and also a stay at home mom. My first full time job was in retail management, it took me a year before I started earning PTO, then the shut downs happened and I spent 4 months home-schooling my kids and making sure no one disturbed my husband (35m) while he worked from home. Once I went back to work our company had a very strict sick policy and I ended up using what little personal time I had acquired to cover "sick" days quite frequently. I earned so little and had to use so often I never actually took a vacation day for vacation. Zoom forward to June 2022 and I start a new job that's in an office so, 8-5 M-F. I'm now home all weekends and evening, but the downside is I no longer have weekdays off to take my kids or myself to appointments (kids and I are in therapy). So, throughout the year I tried to stack appointments as much as I can and took days off for that purpose and used my lunch breaks when I couldn't take the day. Somehow I end up at the end of my first year with 1 personal day left. I decided to use it on May 26, 2023 to get a four day weekend. I was really looking forward to just hanging out and having a day with no agenda for the first time in 4 years. My husband decided to request that day off as well and we used it to deep clean our house and take some old things to our city landfill. The day itself was actually fine, but when the weekend arrived my husband got very angry with me for spending some time with a friend (literally 2 hours) instead of working more on this deep clean. He's is the one who took my day off and turned it into a chore day but he's acting like I am being selfish for wanting to spend 2 hours to myself on my first big stretch of time off in 4 years. AITA?

~ 1. Introduction ~
Here is a detailed description of my wishlist for a Mario Kart 9 or 10/X (if Tour is considered the 9th installment) I don't expect everyone to like all my ideas. This is just a wishlist. I obviously would be happy with any Mario Kart Nintendo decides to put out but in a perfect world, this is what I would want for it to be the best Mario Kart imo. I hope you enjoy.

*² - Wanted to split the vehicle selections between Solo Dash and Double Dash drivers. Solo Dash drivers will now only select between Karts and Bikes and Double Dash drivers will only select between ATVs and new Buggy vehicles. *Buggys are essential similar to the designs of the Karts used in Mario Kart Double Dash. ATVs are now bigger in size to help fit the idea of 2 drivers on one vehicle.
*³ - The original Super Mario Kart had 5 courses per Cup so I brought that option back for custom races.

• • I'm thinking Solo Dash races will feature the usual 12 players (1st - 12th place) while Double Dash races features upto 16 players but 8 groups total (1st - 8th place).
• • Worldwide and Regional Grand Prix will be 2-12 racers (or 4-16 in doubles mode) in a 4-race Cup from any randomly displayed Cups. Cups are then selected based on player voting.
• • Create Room will now feature customized options such as Mode, Teams, Items, CPUs, and Vehicles similar to the Create a Tournament option.
• • For online, I'd also like for a better ranking system to prevent casual players from racing against competitive players and vice versa.

~ Other Details

• • The race start intro and race finishes to retro courses will have a remake version of their original transitions along with a rearranged verison of their original theme from that respective retro course. Example for better understanding. * Mario Kart GP courses will have the current game's race start and finish transitions.
• • I somehow also want to incorporate a way that once the Retro Grand Prix is unlocked, the title screen will have remake versions of the original title screens from previous Mario Kart games similar to Mario Party Superstars. Example
• It would show different title screens at each start up similarly to how Mario Kart 8/Deluxe's title screens Example
  
• • Sometimes the CPU seems to make decisions that only seem to target the player regardless of placement. I want a smarter CPU for harder difficulties that won't just use an item just to use. If a CPU is holding a shell, they should use it logically or defend themselves with it logically.
• • I personally am fine with every other mechanic used in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe such as driving techniques used, amiibo settings, Stats, etc. Keep the same driving techniques even during Double Dash mode. I personally was not a fan of Mario Kart Double Dash's drift mechanic and would not want that function brought back.

• - there's plenty of room for more characters but I figured 100 was the perfect amount of characters, especially with the double dash feature with everyone potentially having a partner with no odd person out.

~ Vehicles
Available parts. The parts available are listed here in the order shown in the vehicle customization screen, with the following notation: ¹ = Changes color, depending on the character. ² = Changes color for the Koopalings. ³ = Changes color for Daisy, Baby Daisy, Rosalina, and Baby Rosalina. (DLC) = Part is only available as downloadable content.

• Personally, I would want a system that prevents everyone from choosing the best racer with the best vehicle parts. For example If Luigi is the best racer and his best vehicle is the standard kart with mushroom tires, and gold glider, obviously everyone will choose Toad and those exact parts to win races. I want everyone to choose their favorite racer and parts that make them comfortable to race in, and not just look at a list of the best racers and parts and just copy and paste that. I don't know how to fix this honestly but I'm sure someone could help with ideas to this to make everyone equal in a way on the track with their own individuality similar to what Mario Kart 7 did with their characters.

Coin - Gives the player a small boost and increase top speed when more are collected, up to a maximum of ten.
Rupee - The equivalent of a coin, used for Hyrule Circuit and Zelda related courses. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.
Bell - The equivalent of a coin, used for Animal Crossing. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.
Cash - The equivalent of a coin, used for Splatoon related courses. They replace coins in the item roulette and in the track.

Coin Block ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * floats above player for a short time (10 seconds). Hop to collect upto 10 coins. Can only be obtained if player has 0 coins. Replacing the Coin Box item from Mario Kart Tour. Example
~ Returning Items
Banana Peel - When a kart hits a Banana Peel, it spins out. You can carry one behind your kart to protect yourself from a single attack. Can be thrown backward and forward.
Green Shell - Travels in a straight line and knocks over a kart it hits.
Red Shell - Red Shell Homes in on the closest kart in front of the player and knocks it over.
Feather - Causes the player to spin and leap in the air, providing a small speed boost upon landing, akin to a regular trick (characters will also perform a trick animation during the jump).
Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with a small speed boost.
Super Star - Provides the player invincibility from all terrain and items, and also giving a speed boost.
Boo - Unleashes Boo, who turns the player invisible for a brief time, making them impervious to enemy attacks, and steals an opponent's item. Cannot steal Special Items.
Coinˣ - Grants the player two extra coins and a micro boost.
Lightningˣ - Causes all opponents to drop their items, shrink, and drive slowly for a short time.
Fake Item - Looks just like an item box, but when you run into it, it knocks you over.
Bob-omb - Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking over any kart in its blast radius.
Blooper - Sprays ink on all racers ahead and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed.
Bullet Billˣ - Transforms the player into a Bullet Bill, rocketing through the track with auto-pilot, and providing invincibility from all terrain and items.
Spiny Shellˣ - Targets the racer in first place, knocking over all other karts in its path.
Super Horn - Emits a radial shockwave hitting racers, as well as destroying all obstacles, including the Spiny Shell.

Fireball (Red) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Mario, Fire Mario
Fireball (Green) - Three fireballs will revolve around your kart. They split up after they're thrown and go sliding ahead. These powerful pyrotechnics can take out multiple opponents at once. Drivers: Luigi, Fire Luigi
Fire Flower - Allows the player to throw fireballs for a short time that cause other karts to spin out on impact. Drivers: Metal Mario, Fire Peach, Fire Bro
Ice Flower - Three balls of ice will revolve around your kart. Throw them all at once and they'll freeze any kart they hit, causing them to slide. Drivers: Ice Bro, Ice Mario, Penguin Luigi
Heart - This protective Heart revolves around your kart for a set amount of time, shielding you from attacks. Any item that hits the player becomes theirs to use. A cute and handy item. Drivers: Peach, Daisy, Villager, Wendy, Mametchi
Yoshi's Egg - This egg rolls down the road and home in on opponents. When they hit and break, they'll drop three more items. Drivers: Yoshi
Birdo's Egg - Homes in on the kart in front of you and crashes once it hits. Three more items will fly out when it breaks. Drivers: Birdo
Chain Chomp - This fearsome beast chases karts with reckless abandon, pulling the player behind it at breakneck speeds. Drivers: Baby Mario, Baby Luigi
Triple Mushrooms - Orbits the player's kart, providing them with three separate speed boosts. Drivers: Toad, Toadette
Golden Mushroom - Provides the player's kart with continuous speed boosts for a short time. Drivers: Captain Toad
Mega Mushroom - The driver grows bigger, which allows them to squash other racers by running over them, making them lose their items and slow down for a moment. Drivers: Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Wiggler
Poison Mushroom - A stationary item. Looks like a regular mushroom but If one is run into, the victim shrinks, as if hit by a Lightning. Shrunken racers who run into it revert to normal size. Drivers: Kamek * ngl, i didn't really know who to give this item to
Mushroom Cannon - A cannon designed to resemble a Mushroom. Continually shoots out Mushrooms in front of your kart for a set time. Drivers: Monty Mole, Peachette, Toadsworth
Triple Green Shells - Three green shells that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Koopa Troopa, Dry Bones, Lakitu, Koopa (Freerunning)
Triple Red Shells - Three red shells that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Paratroopa, Dry Bones, Lakitu, Koopa (Freerunning)
Bowser's Shell - An awe-inspiring giant shell! As it careens down the road, slamming and ramming into karts, it's the very image of Bowser himself. Drivers: Bowser, Bowser Jr., Dry Bowser
Triple Bananas - Three bananas that orbit the player's kart, protecting them from incoming attacks. Drivers: Donkey Kong Jr., Dixie Kong
Giant Banana - Not only does this big banana spin out karts that hit it, but after being struck it breaks into three regular-sized Bananas. Drivers: Donkey Kong
Banana Barrels - Arm your kart with two fully-loaded barrels of Bananas! Continually shoots out Bananas in front of or behind your kart for a set time. Drivers: Diddy Kong, Funky Kong
Thunder Cloud - A thundercloud hovers over the recipient and strikes it with lightning after 10 seconds. The user shrinks to a very small size for 10 seconds, driving more slowly. Before this happens, the user has higher speed and acceleration while not losing speed when driving off-road, and may pass the cloud to an opponent by bumping into them. Drivers: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde * If there was absolutely no choice but to have the next Meta character, it'd be the Ghosts. Having one of the worst possible specials in the game should balance them out.
POW Block - The POW Block appears above the karts as a 2D image, warning players of its arrival, and causes any racer on the ground ahead of the user to spin out and drop their items. * Since wheelies are no longer a thing, it always spins out other racers unless they're in anti-gravity mode or during an in air trick Drivers: Mii, Don-chan
Super Leaf- Gives the player's kart a tail that can be used to deflect items, knock over opponents and collect coins. The tail will disappear after a moment or if the player is hurt. Drivers: Tanooki Mario
Lucky Seven - Surrounds the player with seven items that rotates around its kart. The player receives a Mushroom, Banana, Green Shell, Red Shell, Blooper, Bob-omb, and a Star. Drivers: King Boo, Pauline, Poochy, Nabbit, Chargin' Chuck, Pianta, Noki
Boomerang Flower - Can be thrown up to three times, hitting racers forward/backward and when it returns to its user after the first and second use. Driver: Boomerang Bro, Larry
Piranha Plant - Automatically chomps on obstacles and other racers, giving a short speed boost for each bite. Drivers: Petey Piranha
Double Bob-ombs - Two Bob-ombs will revolve around your kart. Throw them both at once. Drivers: Wario, Waluigi, Roy
Bob-omb Cannon - Continually shoots out Bob-ombs in front of your kart for a set time. Drivers: Shy Guy
Giga Bob-omb - After being thrown, it will explode after hitting a kart or bouncing 3 times. It has a larger blast radius than a standard Bob-omb. Drivers: King Bob-omb
Bubble - Briefly envelops your kart and protects you from damage for a set time. While in the bubble, you will get a speed boost and float in the air. Drivers: Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Lemmy
Dash Ring - Tosses out three rings in front of you along the track. Pass through them for a speed boost! Drivers: Rosalina, Luma, Ludwig, Honey Queen
Hammer - Throws multiple Hammers in an arc aimed at karts in front of yours. Drivers: Hammer Bro
Super Bell - A bell rings above the driver, knocking away nearby karts and items. The bell rings three consecutive times. Drivers: Cat Peach, Cat Toad
Capsule - Three colorful capsules surround your kart. They'll bounce at opponents when thrown. Drivers: Dr. Mario
Splat Bomb ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Explodes after a short time when thrown or dropped, knocking and spraying ink on any kart in its blast radius and reduces their visibility. The racers hit also lose some of their traction while sprayed. Drivers: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy
Magical Boomerang ⁽ⁿᵉʷ⁾ - * Works like a Boomerang Flower that tracks closes kart infront of player like a Red Shell Drivers: Link
Magnet ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * a powerful magnet that pulls opponents towards the player Source Drivers: Krunch
Nayru's Love ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * will surround the racer's kart with a protective shield. Any items that hit this shield will be reflected back at the racer who used them. If a driver using Nayru's Love is attacked with an item such as a Lightning, the racer who used the Lightning item will take damage. Drivers: Zelda
Copy Ability ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * steals Special item from any racer. If no racer has a special item on them, it'll randomly generate a random racer's Special Item. Drivers: Kirby
Dedede's Hammer ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * driver using Dedede's Hammer, will swing it around for about 5 seconds. Any karts hit will be squashed, causing them to lose their item and speed momentarily. Drivers: King Dedede
Invincibility Shield ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * become invulnerable to all damage for a short time. Drivers: Sonic, Tails
Bombs ⁽ᵈˡᶜ⁾ - * Think Double Bob-ombs, the original Triple Bananas and the Feather item. If used as a protective item, upon the explosion, the player will leap in the air, providing a small speed boost upon landing. Drivers: Samus

I figured that my wife and I can't be the only ones that will want to play a few rounds during the Caverns run. I'll be bringing my basket for the campground, so feel free to bring discs and rattle some chains!

Baggenstoss Farms: 18-20 minutes from the Caverns. Looks like a mid-range or putter only course. Photos don't show many trees or wooded shots, so this seems like it'd be a fun beginner course or an ace-run course. Recent reviews say that it is a lot of fun.
Swerve: 22-25 minutes from the Caverns. Additonal link. This is a private course located around a lake with around 25 hole. It says that it costs $4 to play with the purchase of a disc. The photos look very fun, but I recommend reaching out to the company to confirm the price and availability.
Nissan Decherd: 22-25 minutes from the Caverns. Looks like another beginner friendly, mid-ranger or putter course. 10 holes. Recent reviews say that it has a nice course flow and is in good shape.
Winchester City Park: 30-35 minutes from the Caverns. This seems to be the best option for an 18 hole course with some variety and difficulty. Recent reviews say it's in good condition and that people have had fun.
Gnome Home: 40-45 minutes from the Caverns. This is a private course desgined by someone that "just loves disc golf". Seems to be quite wooded, with some variety. Seems like it will be a blast but might require some forethought and planning. Check out the Facebook page to ask questions or permission.
Sunrise Rotary Park: 40-45 minutes from the Caverns. Reviews say that it can be quite muddy. Other than that, the park seems like a blast with a variety of holes in the woods and open fairways. It holds 27 holes so might be worth the drive to spend some time out there.
HV Griffin: 55-60 minutes from the Caverns. Mostly wooded with a few open shots. Reviews recommend mid-range and putters. Seems to have some elevation challenges but still recommended for beginners.
Fair Haven: 55-60 minutes from the Caverns. Not the highest rated course but I included it as it's very close to HV Griffin. People complain that it needs to be mowed and there is potential to lose discs.
Don Davidson: 55-60 minutes from the Caverns. Reviews say it is not a challenging course and is recommended for beginners. Looks to be a mix of open fairways and wooded shots.
Portland Park: 75 minutes from the Caverns. Located at the bottom of Signal Mountain near Chattanooga. 9 hole course with open fairways and 3 wooded holes. Not terribly challenging at all. Mid-range and putter course.
The Narrows: 75 minutes from the Caverns. Not recommended for beginners. Easily the most challenging course in Chattanooga. Tight wooded lines, unkept woods. Has a few par 4's sprinkled amidst the course. Challenging 200ish' carry over a pond towards the end of the course. HIGHLY recommend if you are up for the challenge. You have been warned. Same location as The Sinks. Course starts near hole 16/17 of The Sinks.
The Sinks: 75 minutes from the Caverns. This is the older cousin to The Narrows. Entirely wooded 18 hole course (with 2 secret inners) located in Chattanooga. Provides both short and long tees, as well as short and long baskets for nearly every hole. Highly recommend as this is the flagship course in Chattanooga. It will be busy. Same location as The Narrows.
Camp Jordan: 90 minutes from the Caverns. Combination of wooded holes and open fairways. Boasts the longest hole in Chattanooga. Offers a ton of grip and rip holes amidst some very technical wooded holes. Can be very busy as Camp Jordan is a multi-purpose park, but overall is a lot of fun.

After seeing a post about crime in Portland, I went and looked at the Portland Police Bureau's Monthly Portland Neighborhood Offense Statistics and compared the first quarter of the year from 2019 to 2023 on a per 100k of population basis.

Summary

• Crime is likely dropping.
• Reported crime in 2022 increased ~30% when compared to 2019. In 2023 we're now only ~20% above 2019.
• By next year, with the same kinds of improvements we're seeing, we'll be in line with 2019 numbers.

Why I Chose

• Per capita numbers used to reduce the effect of population changes in knowing if crime is trending up or down.
• Year over year, Q1 numbers were used to increase the "apples to apples" comparability and because that is all we have for this year so far. Maybe every year there are spikes in crime in July and thus comparing January 2023 with July 2022 to look for increases or decreases would be faulty.
• Portland Police Bureau data was easily found from 2019 to 2023. National reporting doesn't seem to have this full set.
• The PSU population estimate was easily found and was easier to use without worrying about different revisions of the data year to year. I only care about if things are improving or getting worse, so as long as the population estimates are of the same revision/set, it should be fine.
• For 2023, the 2022 population value was used. We don't have 2023 data yet, that won't be until next year that the estimate is released. The 2022 value will have to be close enough.
• No other cities data was used as a comparison or to give context. I'm too lazy to try and find other similar sized cities with similar easily found data sets. From basic Googling, it looks like other cities had similar kinds of changes.
• Some columns from the source table(s) were left off to make the table easier to read on Reddit.

The fourth out of six events in ROH's Fifth Year Festival sees a tag team main event with ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishima and Nigel McGuinness versus Samoa Joe and Homicide. As Joe was headed off for TNA full-time, this would be his final appearance stateside for ROH. He gets a standing ovation during his ring introductions and is more emotional than I've seen him on prior stops in the tour. McGuinness has a weird alliance thing going on with Morishima, one that would end in flames as 2007 went on. After a long match that felt like all four guys were holding a bit back, McGuinness gets a stunning win over Joe with the rebound lariat. The crowd did not like that finish. I felt like this match could have been better. There was a deliberate pace that didn't work for me.
Chicago's own Colt Cabana fought Jimmy Jacobs in a Windy City Death Match. This was the culmination of Jimmy Jacobs being completely hypnotized by Lacey and willing to do whatever it took to keep her attention. This is a bloody, vicious brawl, with scissors, spikes, and broken flagpoles making both Cabana and Jacobs a bloody mess. Brent Albright interferes on Jacobs' behalf, only to be met by BJ Whitmer. Lacey gets involved, steadying a ladder while Jacobs leaps to the outside through Cabana on a table. That comes back to bite her as Cabana hits both Lacey and Jacobs with his Colt 45 finish, stacks them on top of each other and gets the pin.
ROH World Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal defended the titles against the promotion's constant threat, the Briscoe Brothers. (Jay and Mark). The Briscoe brothers have held the titles twice before, but at this point, haven't had a reign in three years. This match would be the beginning of the Briscoes as we came to know them -- the aces of the ROH tag team division. I've said on a couple of occasions that Daniels and Sydal don't seem to have any chemistry, but the presence of a well-oiled machine like the Briscoes elevates the work of the champions. This is a long match, and the weapons that served Daniels and Sydal in previous matches, like the shooting star press and the assisted Angel's Wings, fail here. The Briscoes finish the job on Sydal with a leg drop/SSP combo to begin their third tag title reign.
Roderick Strong and Davey Richards of the No Remorse Corps took on Austin Aries and Matt Cross. This is the first time Aries and Strong were on opposing sides in Ring of Honor and the first match between the two since Strong betrayed Aries earlier in the tour. Aries, in his search for allies to start his new faction (that would eventually be known as The Resilience) picked Matt Cross. Aries starts the match by going right at Strong as soon as he enters the ring, something that would be the theme of the match. Strong and Richards have added a few dirty tricks to their repertoire of hard strikes. Cross hits Strong with a moonsault to the outside and takes a very painful landing right on the edge of the guardrail. Aries finished off Richards with the 450 splash and goes outside to help Cross, but Strong and Richards decide to give Aries' new ally a second helping of guardrail pain.
If you hear whistles blowing throughout this show, that's because ROH is sharing a building with a volleyball meet.

Long before green energy became de rigueur, Rolls-Royce was exploring how to generate clean power.
The engineering giant said it had reached a “significant milestone” in 2011 after successfully generating electricity from the tides. Rolls-Royce had installed a huge turbine 100ft beneath the sea near Orkney that would harness tidal power to feed the Scottish grid.
Yet shortly after the trial, the project was abandoned. It is one of many ideas that Britain’s premier engineer has tried and dropped over the years in a search for the next big thing that could transform its fortunes.
This era of experimentation now looks like it’s over. New chief executive Tufan Erginbilgic has been far more interested in shutting things down than starting them up since taking charge in January.
He has vowed to shut the company’s R2 Factory, which was set up to sell Rolls-Royce’s in-house artificial intelligence software. A Rolls-Royce direct air carbon capture project, which aimed to remove existing CO2 from the atmosphere, will also be wound down.

Erginbilgic, who spent 20 years at BP before taking charge of Rolls-Royce, has been alarmed at the state of the business.
He called Rolls-Royce a “burning platform” when he took over, telling employees: “Every investment we make, we destroy value.”
In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Erginbilgic said Rolls-Royce’s power business, which makes diesel-burning engines for ships and generators, had been “grossly mismanaged”.
A full strategy update is expected later in the year, with more cuts expected.
Erginbilgic argues he is giving the company the tough medicine needed to turn around the business.
“Rolls-Royce has not been performing for a long, long time, it has nothing to do with Covid, let’s be very clear,” he told staff shortly after taking charge. “Given everything I know talking to investors, this is our last chance.”
Yet some believe the axeman at Rolls-Royce is going too far too fast. Erginbilgic was forced to defend his comments about the business at the company’s recent shareholder meeting, amid accusations he was making “extremely destabilising” remarks.
“That probably would not be my choice of language,” former Rolls-Royce chief Warren East says of the “burning platform” comments.
Rolls-Royce is synonymous with victorious British engineering, conjuring visions of the Merlin engines that powered Spitfire fighter planes and Lancaster bombers during the Second World War.
Today, its largest business is making large jet engines for civil aircraft. It also makes diesel engines for ships and generators, engines for warplanes, and nuclear power plants for submarines.
It is developing electric powertrains for air taxis and other light aircraft as it prepares for the shift to net zero.
The company is one of three Western manufacturers of large engines for passenger jets, the others being US engineers General Electric and Pratt & Whitney.
However, it is far smaller than its rivals. GE, which makes everything from wind turbines to nuclear power plants, is worth $110bn (£90bn). Pratt & Whitney is owned by missile and satellite maker Raytheon, which is worth $135bn. Rolls-Royce is worth just £12bn.
The British company is best understood as a challenger, argues East.
A former microchip executive who took the helm at Rolls-Royce in 2015, East spent much of his time in charge fighting fires.
During his tenure he had to deal with: production problems dogging the company’s Trent 1000 engine, which powers the Boeing Dreamliner jet; a settlement with the Serious Fraud Office over historic bribery and corruption allegations; and the pandemic, which cost the company £8bn.
Covid-19 dealt a huge blow to the company as planes using its engines were grounded. Rolls-Royce was forced to cut 9,000 jobs in 2020 and raised £5bn to shore up its balance sheet.
The succession of crises meant East had little time to address more fundamental issues.
East is sanguine about his successor’s strategy. Erginbilgic is “doing stuff, which, frankly, I would probably be doing if I was still running Rolls-Royce”, he says.
“He’s carving out his own agenda,” East says, adding: “You have to be a little bit ruthless about these things.”
Unlike its rivals, Rolls-Royce only makes the largest engines for long-haul travel rather than the smaller engines that power the short-haul workhorse planes that fly around Europe or within North America.
This has left the company struggling to recover from the impact of the pandemic. Short-haul trips have rebounded much more quickly than long-haul.
Rolls-Royce lost £1.5bn last year, though it eked out a small operating profit.
Erginbilgic argues his cuts are part of a very long process of making the company a sustainably profitable enterprise.
Nick Cunningham, an aviation analyst at Agency Partners, says: “Rolls’s core business is making Aero Engines and diesels, that's what it does.
“You don't want to be doing anything which detracts from that – attempts at pure diversification almost never work.”
While some investors have been disgruntled with Erginbilgic’s communication style, few are arguing with the new chief’s results.
Shares are up almost 50pc so far this year, including a 24pc one-day jump in February after Rolls-Royce unveiled its better-than-expected annual results.
The next business that could face the chop could be Rolls-Royce’s Small Modular Reactor (SMR) business, speculates Cunningham.
The company is racing to develop an electricity generating reactor that can be factory-made but it is up against more than a dozen competitors.
Rolls-Royce has repeatedly said it is reliant on the state to place the first SMR order to kick-start the business. However, the UK government has so far dragged its feet and recently opened an international tender process.
“Frankly, it's going to take a decade or more to get a working nuclear power station, if it gets funded and ordered,” says Cunningham, “and it will inevitably get more expensive than you expected, they always do. And meanwhile, renewables are still getting cheaper.”
Rolls could choose to license the technology out instead. The margins would be smaller but this strategy would free up more resources for the bigger challenge of decarbonising its engines.
Erginbilgic’s “priority number one” must be the nuts and bolts of Rolls-Royce’s business, says Cunningham. Namely: selling jet engines and developing clean propulsion. That means costly side bets must be abandoned.
The tidal power project is a prime example of the type of experiment that Rolls-Royce will no longer indulge. It was shut down before East joined Rolls-Royce, but his team did briefly revisit the idea, he says.
Ultimately, they concluded that the product “just didn't make economic sense”.
“It’d be lovely if lots of these things did but you know, it's a business,” he says.

Because someone asked me about a comment I made on another post, here's an edited version of a writeup I did back in 2011 of the 8 page outline from Heinlein's papers that became Spider Robinson's Variable Star.
When I first Read Variable Star a few years after it came out, I thought it was OK but disappointing. It's a Spider Robinson novel, and while I enjoyed the first few books of his I read, he has a limited range and by the time I read this one I had gotten bored with him.
But, a huge deal was made in the afterword and the cover blurbs about the source of the novel being a book outline by Heinlein that he had never expanded to a full novel - an 8 page outline that tragically had lost its last page by the time Robinson got hold of it. (I don't know how much of the story of the missing page is marketing BS, but there's no reason Robinson would have been unable to get a copy of the last page if he really wanted to see it) .
Anyway, I got curious and went looking for the outline. Like every other scrap of paper from his writing career that Heinlein didn't destroy, it's in the UC Santa Cruz library, and scans of everything in the Heinlein collection are available for sale online at the Heinlein Archive website. The 8 page outline (which is complete, no missing last page) is part of the "Story ideas, part 1" PDF, catalog number WRTG201a-01.
I paid $2 and got a 150 page PDF, including the 8 page outline and a bunch of other quite interesting material - very much worth the pittance.
TLDR: The outline is clearly for a Heinlein juvenile. While Heinlein never turned the outline into a novel himself, he did did not abandon it as the marketing for Variable Star would imply. Rather, he took one core idea (near-light speed travel as a form of time travel into the future) and used it as the basis for Time For the Stars. Then he took the other core idea (poor boy suddenly finds himself dealing with a family more wealthy and powerful than most governments) and incorporated it into Citizen of the Galaxy. Finally he took the last idea from the outline (boy and girl seemingly separated by one-way time travel into the future discover that their ages are not incompatible after all because they've both travelled forward), and used it in The Door Into Summer.
In 2011 when I wrote this up, I could not find anyone talking about the outline, so I wrote a detailed summary on my blog. Here's that summary:
The outline is eight single space typewritten pages, plus 12 handwritten notecards. The notecards are pages 115-128 and the typed outline pages 129-136 of the PDF. I'll be focusing on the typescript, which I can read without straining my eyes. The notecards are very brief, so we're not missing much this way.
The MS begins "Notes for a novel - 5 Nov 1955," which places it (going by publication dates) after Tunnel in the Sky and before Double Star or Time for the Stars. The second line gives a working title "The Stars are a Clock," and then there are several other titles handwritten at the top of the page:
Dr. Einstein's Clock, The Starship Nautilus, The Starship Naughty Girl, The Star Clock, The Einstein Clock
It's not clear whether the two "The Starship X" ones are meant to be subtitles for "Dr Einstein's Clock" or standalone titles in themselves. Page 2 is headed "Star Clock (The Star Clock, maybe)" and the rest of the outline has "The Star Clock-[page number]" as a running head.
The only named characters are Joel Johnston, age 18, the protagonist; Jinny Jones/aka Jennifer Conrad (Joel's steady high school girlfriend, age 17); and "Mr. Conrad," Jinny's grandfather and head of the Conrad financial empire. A few other characters are described in terms of the real-world people the character should be modelled after (in speaking of the starship, he says "I think maybe Ron Hubbard is her skipper").
This was clearly intended as a juvenile novel - Joel is 18, and when saying he "should have more girl trouble aboard ship," Heinlein adds "(keep it clean, of course!)" One reason Heinlein set the outline aside and started over may be that he decided he couldn't get a book whose plot was centred on a romance accepted for the (at the time) sexless juvenile market.
Joel and Jinny are in love, but Joel is an orphan with no money and he thinks he needs to get through college and start a career before he can get married. If Joel can't get the scholarship he's applied for, then it's going to take even longer, since he'll have to work his way though school.
Having gotten Joel to admit that he would like to marry Jinny if only there was a way, Jinny lets him know that her surname is not Jones but Conrad, and that she is not just a Conrad, but the "'crown princess' of the Conrad industrial empire... which is larger than the Hanseatic League, Rothschild family, and General Motors combined and just smaller than space itself."
Two paragraphs in a row start with a variation of Joel "finally gets it through his head" that Jinny is wealthy enough to pay his way though school, so Joel is yet another variation on the "smart but slow witted youth" that Heinlein used as protagonist again and again.
There's a couple of paragraphs mentioning the marriage and courtship customs of the time, which again probably would not have been acceptable in a novel for the juvenile market: "some discussion of 'student contract,' the trial marriage used" by most college students who wish to get married before they graduate, rejected by Jinny, ("marriage isn't a ticket to an amusement park") who wants an old fashioned life long marriage.
Jinny doesn't "park, diddle, go on no-chaperone weekends... she is old-fashioned and chinchy" because she has been taught since age three that she has a responsibility to the Conrad family to produce an heir with an acceptable father - and she has decided that Joel is that man.
Joel "finally gathers" that he has been tapped not just to marry into the Conrad family but to produce its heirs, and is dubious about being a kept man/prince consort. Jinny says "it isn't like that at all!" and makes him promise to go talk to her grandfather about it.
All this takes just over a page of the outline.
The next morning, Joel is summoned to an audience with Mr. Conrad. There is only one "Mr. Conrad" at any one time, all the other male Conrads go by "Mr. Joseph, Mr. Robert" and so on. Conrad takes Joel's consent for granted and proceeds to tell him how he will live his life from then on -- he will be educated, trained, and groomed to take a top executive position. Joel was thoroughly investigated before Jinny was given permission to propose to him. Mr. Conrad knows all about him - including confidential medical/psychological records.
Joel objects, respectfully, saying that having his life planned out for him like this is not for him. Conrad brushes his objections aside and leaves, still failing to realize that he's just been turned down.
Joel is unable to contact Jinny after this ("she has been gently kidnapped, of course - family stuff"), and once he fails to respond to further messages from Conrad, the screws start to turn: his scholarship (controlled by the Conrad foundation) is turned down.
Unable to continue school, sore at Jinny for not contacting him, and at his wits end, "he sees the ad for 'gentlemen adventurers'" applies, is accepted, and is shortly on his way to Beta Aurigae.
All this takes a page and a half of outline, most of it devoted to a detailed summary of Mr. Conrad's interview with Joel.
Now there's just under two pages of background material, detailing several things:
First, the economics of space travel in this future society - relativistic starships that go out on voyages of exploration often fail to come back, but those that do return invariably show an immense profit, more than enough to pay for the lost ships. Starship exploration is one area where the Conrad empire has competitors, and the ad Joel sees is not affiliated with the Conrad conglomerate.
Second, the nature of Joel's poverty - he has an "orphan's allowance" which ran out on his 18th birthday. Joel's father bought some stock for him but the market shifted and Joel had to sell it low to pay for his last (post 18th birthday) semester at prep school. Without the scholarship, Joel has no money at all. He could do many things at this point, from indentured service to a stint in the military, but he's so discombobulated by the whole Jinny/Conrad business that he is in a "what the hell frame of mind" and signs up for this star voyage.
Third, the starship in question is "a pile of junk," old and poorly equipped, carrying low value cargo (emigrants), with low likelihood of returning, but Joel doesn't know that. "She will be a quaint mixture of madhouse and hellship." Subjectively, the trip out and back (to a star 10 light years away) will take a year, but 40 years will pass on Earth.
Fourth, there's a half page of brainstorming, with Heinlein throwing out multiple ideas as to what may happen (is the skipper incompetent, or is he in on a stock market manipulation scheme to delay the ship's return? Perhaps Joel still has some stock his father bought in an old starship that is long overdue, which he instructs his solicitor to invest in Joel's starship if it ever pays off? Perhaps they pay off, but his solicitor put them in a "safe" investment instead, and Joel is penniless - again! - at the end of his trip?)
Joel applies to go on the starship, along with a large crowd of "down-at heels rabble" and he is among the few provisionally accepted. They'd like him to marry one of the single women who have also been provisionally accepted, but he'll have none of that. "He is accepted anyhow and we rush him aboard."
And then there's a bit more than a page of further brainstorming about what happens aboard ship - with an note that "we've got plenty to happen when he gets back; what we need now is adventure and humour" and twists on the ship and on the alien planet.
Heinlein makes several mid-course changes in the story: the back-at-home duration of the voyage gets increased to 60 years, with Joel ageing just three years; the ship goes through two names (Nautilus and Naughty Girl) and goes from making an out-and-back voyage to making a 4 or 5 leg journey. He tosses out the idea that an emigrant on the original trip out from Earth (then a 5 year old girl) grows up to be someone he might want to marry on his return to that colony world, and the idea that another girl from his high school is on the crew of the ship, and he falls for her, but she marries one of the officers instead.
One thing he is certain of is that while Joel's ship is still travelling, FTL ships are perfected and the relativistic starships become obsolete. He also mentions that Joel will find a "space bat" as a "cute and cuddlesome and smart e.-t." pet.
Eventually Joel has to go back to Earth (whether his stocks end up making him well-heeled or broke Heinlein waffles on), still single. A page is devoted to discussing the "Out-of-Phase Club, Anachron Lounge, etc" and Joel's meeting with the secretary of the club, who explains to him the club's purpose of helping relativistic starship crew by acting as trainers/translators and as a place where they can meet people from their own time period, since they are almost always going to find Earth's society, language, and customs to be bafflingly different from when they left.
Finally, the last page and a half of the outline is devoted to Joel's arranging to meet Jinny (who he imagines is now almost 80), the girl he ran away from and who has continued to haunt him, keeping him from marrying any of the "half a dozen other nice girls" he met on his travels. After getting to the Conrad house, he first sees Jinny's granddaughter and great-granddaughter, and (once again) is slow on the uptake when Jinny (still young) finally walks into the room.
Because, of course, she took a starship out too, after marrying, giving birth to the requisite heir, and then finding herself both widowed and orphaned in quick succession. So, sixty Earth years later, they are now the same age.
They fight, they make up, they "clinch." They decide, since they are both now anachronisms from the past, to buy their own starship (Joel's old ship) and travel around relativistically, coming back to earth every century or so to "see what's new."
Now a bit about Robinson's novel: it is extremely faithful to the first five pages of the outline (up to the point where Joel leaves on the starship). Robinson used just a few of the brainstorming ideas Heinlein put in page 6 (the trip), and ignored page 7 (Joel's return to Earth) completely (and it is claimed that he didn't have page 8). Robinson also borrowed some material from Time For the Stars, the Heinlein juvenile which did get written on the theme of relativistic star travel - there's mention of telepaths keeping the starship in touch with Earth, for instance.
Then (avoiding spoilers here) Variable Star utterly abandons the outline (well before the alleged missing page 8) and strikes off in an entirely new direction. By staying so faithful to the initial outline, then diverging so widely from it, Robinson ended up with a book that egregiously violates the Chekov's Gun rule - the ending of Variable Star comes from nowhere, with very little buildup or foreshadowing, while the beginning of the book puts a good many plot threads in motion that are discarded abruptly without resolution to make way for the ending.
Finally, a bit about the other material to be found in the "Story Ideas part 1" PDF: There are numerous newspaper and magazine clippings that Heinlein evidently found evocative; two articles by Jerry Pournelle (one typescript, one journal reprint); some handwritten pages that I did not try to decipher; 19 pages of worldbuilding notes for "A Martian named Smith" aka Stranger in a Strange Land, dated 1949; and finally two typed letters, one to "Sarge" (dec 1963), and one (missing the first page, probably from the same time period) to "Buz," both talking about race relations. Buz is probably F.M. Busby.

Savarkar was not the founder of two nation Theory. It was Sir syed ahmed khan. In his book on the revolt of 1857( Written in 1858) he referred to Hindus and Muslims as ‘two antagonistic races’ when highlighting the British folly of bringing them together in a single unit, thereby endangering the British position. In one of his letter to Braduddin tyabbji he wrote, "I do not understand what the words ‘National Congress’ mean. Is it supposed that the different castes and creeds living in India belong to one nation, or can become a nation, and their aims and aspirations be one and the same? I think it is quite impossible, and when it is impossible there can be no such thing as a National Congress, nor can it be of equal benefit to all peoples. You regard the doings of the misnamed National Congress beneficial to India, but I am sorry to say that I regard them as not only injurious to our own community but also to India at large. I object to every Congress in any shape or form whatever which regards India as one nation". He was also a loyalists of British Raj in his speech in Meerut 1888 he said, " No Mahomedan can say that the English are not ‘People of the Book’. No Mahomedan can deny this: that God has said that no people of other religions can be friends of Mahomedans except the Christians. He who had read the Koran and believes it, he can know that our nation (read Muslim nation) cannot expect friendship and affection from any other people. At this time, our nation is in a bad state as regards education and wealth, but God has given us the light of religion, and the Koran is present for our guidance, which has ordained them and us to be friends. Now God has made them rulers over us. There was one person who talked about Two nation theory even before Sir syed Ahmed khan. He was Karl Marx. In his book, The eastern Question (written in 1856) page no. 316 he wrote, "The Koran and the Mussulman legislation emanating from it reduce the geography and ethnography of the various people to the simple and convenient distinction of two nations and of two countries; those of the Faithful and of the Infidels. The Infidel is “harby,” i.e. the enemy. Islamism proscribes the nation of the Infidels, constituting a state of permanent hostility between the Mussulman and the unbeliever"
Sadly Marxist Historians from Aligarh University dont know the history of their baap-dada and blame Savarkar for two nation theory.
Also it would be factually wrong to say that Marx Or Sir syed ahmed khan was the first one to give two nation theory. Even according to some pakistani historians Ahmad Sirhindi (1564-1624) was the founder of Two nation theory. In one of his letter he wrote " Islam and infidelity (kufr) contradict one another. To establish the one means eradicating the other, the coming together of these contradictories being impossible. Therefore, Allah has commanded his Prophet to wage war (jihãd) against the infidels, and be harsh with them. The glory is Islam consists in the humiliation and degradation of infidels and infidelity. He who honours the infidels, insults Islam. Honouring (the infidels) does not mean that they are accorded dignity, and made to sit in high places. It means allowing them to be in our company, to sit with them, and talk to them. They should be kept away like dogs. If there is some worldly purpose or work which depends upon them, and cannot be served without their help, they may be contacted while keeping in mind all the time that they are not worthy of respect. The best course according to Islam is that they should not be contacted even for worldly purposes. Allah has proclaimed in his Holy Word (Quran) that they are his and his Prophets enemies. Hi everyone, after researching and waiting for over a year I am finally ready to build my first ever gaming rig. I used to have a gaming laptop with a 1060 (6gb) gpu but it can hardly run anything on my monitor and gets extremely hot.
