2023.05.31 17:36 Specialist-Bag8043 Space expert reveals Guinness World Records of the universe
Guinness World Records has been expanded by a space expert in order to showcase some incredible statistics found throughout the rest of the cosmos. In a new video this week, British scientist and BBC TV broadcaster Brian Cox says, "If there was a Guinness World Records 'Universe' book, the records would be remarkable." Cox quickly moves through an extensive list of exciting space-based records, starting with "the most enormous compact object," a supermassive black hole, a picture of which was taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope three years ago. The so-called M87 galaxy, which is six billion times more massive than the sun and is located 55 million light-years from Earth. In addition to numerous records, Cox unveils the universe's fastest object as well as its biggest structure and smallest object. The scientist identified Glass-z13 as the farthest distant verified galaxy when asked. "The light's journey from it to the telescope took around 13.4 billion years. We are examining the galaxy as it might have been 200 million or 300 million years after the Big Bang. Glass-z13 has a distance from Earth of little over 33 billion light-years due to the expansion of the universe. The James Webb Space Telescope, the largest telescope of its sort ever constructed, made the discovery of the far-off galaxy. The Webb telescope has been conducting research into deep space and sending stunning images back to Earth since its deployment earlier this year. As Cox points out, recordings of the universe are subject to perpetual change as astronomers and scientists make new discoveries all the time using more potent tools like the Webb telescope.
What reionized the Universe, and when?
When did the transparency of the universe begin? It's a strange but crucial question. The Universe was once opaque, but over time it changed to transparency and is still transparent now. It is literally the reason we can see far-off objects in the sky, and in a more existential sense, that instant of cosmic transparency had an impact on the behaviour of galaxies, the formation of stars, and other things. Answering the question is something that many astronomers want to do because it has significant ramifications for the objects we want to study and because we are here because of it. Astronomers from several countries may have discovered the solution to the puzzle: 12.7 billion years ago, roughly 1.1 billion years after the Big Bang. The fact that this is a few hundred million years later than previous calculations has some intriguing ramifications. Our entire Universe was in a hot, dense condition and all of its matter was ionised immediately after the Big Bang, like minutes after it: Any hydrogen or helium nuclei were free of any electron bonds. When an electron attempted to move, a photon, a particle of light, would strike it and cause it to fall. At the time, all of the light was incredibly high-energy and more than capable of maintaining the ionisation of the environment. As matter is so dense, if you were in this miasma, which in a sense you were since everything in the Universe was, it would appear absolutely opaque to you. An ionisation timeline Gas was cold and neutral in the early Universe (on the left), but as time goes on (on the right), radiation from stars and active black holes rips electrons off hydrogen atoms, illuminating the gas. An ionisation timeline Gas was cold and neutral in the early Universe (on the left), but as time goes on (on the right), radiation from stars and active black holes rips electrons off hydrogen atoms, illuminating the gas. The time interval is roughly one billion years from left to right. Thesan Collaboration, in picture Astonishingly, as the Universe cooled and expanded over the next 400,000 years, the average photon eventually ran out of energy to ionise hydrogen. For the first time, protons and electrons united and remained together to form neutral hydrogen. Recombination is the term used to describe the joining of an electron and a proton, hence this event is referred to as recombination even though it was the first time most atoms had united. Continuing the story Neutral hydrogen is highly good at absorbing visible light, the wavelengths of light humans can see, therefore the universe was still opaque even though the density of the Universe was reducing as it expanded. This period is known as the Dark Ages. That situation would last for a very, very long period until new objects formed that could emit ultraviolet light. When they were created, they ionised the hydrogen in space once more, but this time was different since the Universe had a lower density, allowing photons to go farther without being absorbed. Space became transparent all of a sudden and remained so. We can see a great distance even today because the majority of gas is ionised, or officially called a plasma. Reionization refers to this point in the universe's history. However, when did that occur? A pleasant approach to learn more exists. A blazar, or galaxy containing a supermassive black hole spewing energy, as depicted by an artist. Credit: Science Communication Lab and DESY A blazar, or galaxy containing a supermassive black hole spewing energy, as depicted by an artist. Credit: Science Communication Lab and DESY Image: Science Communication Lab at DESY Huge black holes evolved in the centres of galaxies as they initially emerged from the darkness. These black holes would collect matter as it fell into them, building up in a disc that would become extremely hot and emit high-energy ultraviolet light, X-rays, and gamma rays. These galaxies are what astronomers refer to as quasars, and we can view them from a very, very long way. When these quasars' light reaches us, it battles the Universe's expansion, which causes their wavelengths to lengthen—a process known as redshifting. In other words, the redshift reveals the quasar's distance, which in turn reveals how long after the Big Bang we observe it. Due to the fact that light can only move at a certain speed, objects that are further away are redshifted more and appear to us in the past.Because of the quasar's immense strength, even if we observe it before reionization, it will have already ionised the hydrogen immediately around it, allowing light to escape. The light from the quasar will be absorbed if there is a cloud of hydrogen between us and the quasar that is sufficiently removed from it to remain neutral. The redshift of the wavelength gap we detect in the quasar's light indicates how far away the cloud is from us and, more significantly, how far back in time we saw it. Very far distant clouds are neutral and unionised. However, following reionization, we suddenly stop noticing them because they are unable to take in the quasar's light.. So in theory, all we need to do is isolate the light from a collection of distant quasars using really good spectra. Numerous wavelengths will exhibit significant absorption, which will disappear at a sufficiently low redshift. Reionization took place then. This is really difficult to do in real life. You need really brilliant quasars, and even then, they are faint because they are so far away. Additionally, you need very good spectra, which calls for a large telescope and prolonged exposures. Numerous additional factors must also be taken into consideration, such as how the universe was structured back then. However, the astronomy team actually did this. They used archived observations of 42 additional extremely bright quasars from two other observatories in addition to 25 very distant very bright quasars from the XQR-30 survey. They discover that the Universe first became transparent roughly 1.1 billion years after the Big Bang by closely examining the 67 quasar spectra. Illustration of the first stars in the universe illuminating the gas clouds where they originated. Photo: NAOJ Illustration of the first stars in the universe illuminating the gas clouds where they originated. Photo: NAOJ And that's really fascinating! What precisely ionised the universe is unknown. There was enough time for supermassive, extremely hot, luminous stars to form as well, and they could have also blasted out UV light, enough to contribute. It might have been these very quasars. Was it thus stars, quasars, or a combination of both? The timing may be able to focus this. Reionization was previously estimated to have occurred 200 million years earlier, but if the new estimate is accurate, there is plenty of room for many more of these first-generation stars to form and contribute. So, if you'll excuse the pun, it might have been both stars and quasars working together. Around this time, galaxies were developing, and if these stars were incredibly powerful, they could blow gas straight out of the galaxies, altering the evolution of those galaxies. In order to comprehend when these stars existed and what they might have done to their surrounding environments, we need to know when reionization took place. I'll remind you that you reside in a galaxy and on a planet revolving around a star whose lineages may be traced back to this period. Reionization—what it was, when it happened, and how it affected the universe—thus plays a role in our existence. It's clear why we want to know the answer. And it might be here at last. Naturally, more observations are preferable. We may also be able to determine the duration of reionization if we have more exact estimates of this number from models of cosmic structure. 1,000,000 years? 10, fifty, or one hundred? It's almost certain that larger telescopes with better cameras will be used to answer that question. We are among the first species to comprehend precisely how the universe came into being and what occurred to it after that. You can quote me on that, but the Universe took 13.8 billion years to get here, and I think it was worth the wait.

2023.05.31 17:36 CDAGames Kovarci (light puppeteer review)
I have the light puppeteer, Kovarci. She is an LD5 monster. Here is my review of her:
Kovarci awakens into resistance. Kovarci skill 3 does AOE attack bar boost by 20%, AOE increase attack power and immunity for 2 turns. After fully skilled, her s3 is on a 4 turn cooldown. Her base speed is 100.
Many 3*, 4*, and 5* monsters do what she does, and they do it better.
For example:
- 3* light werewolf (Eshir) skill 2 is better than Kovarci's skill 3. Eshir base speed is 115 and his s2 is on a 3 turn cooldown.
- 4* fire brownie magician (Draco) s3 is better than Kovarci's skill 3. His attack bar boost is better (he does 30%). He grants AOE immunity same as Kovarci. He grants AOE speed increase (Kovarci has none). He also has an AOE either attack power or defense boost increase. His base speed is much better than Kovarci.
- 5* water desert queen (Bastet) s3 is better than Kovarci's skill 3. Bastet gives more AOE boost (30%) than Kovarci, longer AOE attack power increase (3 turns) than Kovarci, grants an AOE shield (Kovarci has none). Bastet s2 is AOE defense break, AOE heal block, and AOE glancing, which is FAR superior to Kovarci's s2 which only helps a single target.
- 3* light inugami (Belladeon) s3 gives more AOE boost (30%) than Kovarci, and Belladeon has 108 base speed, much higher than Kovarci.
- 5* wind occult girl (Charlotte) s3 is better than Kovarci's s3. Charlotte's s3 actually does AOE big damage to the enemy (Kovarci does none). Charlotte's s3 boosts attack bar by 30% (more than Kovarci), reduces the enemies attack bar by up to 90% (Kovarci does none), and does AOE glancing (Kovarci does none). Charlotte has much higher base speed of 105.
- 5* dark Eivor skill 3 is better than Kovarci's s3. Dark Eivor gives a better boost of 30%, longer attack power increase of 3 turns, and actually does damage. Dark Eivor also has higher base speed of 103.
- 3* water drunken master (Mao). I give him to show an example of a 3* monster that is not as good, but almost as good as the 5* LD monster. This should not be. Mao's skill 3 does AOE attack bar boost of 15%, AOE speed increase for 2 turns, and then he does big damage with skill 3 and a 50% chance to combo from skill 3 into his skill 1 and do even more big damage. The point is that an LD5 should do something special and Kovarci just isn't good compared to the other monsters who do what she does and they do it better.
- 3* water mystic witch (Megan) skill 3 is equivalent to Kovarci's. Megan does AOE attack bar boost of 20% (same as Kovarci), AOE attack power increase 2 turns (same as Kovarci), and AOE defense increase. The only difference is Megan gives defense buff while Kovarci gives immunity buff. Why is a 3* monster as good as an LD5? This should not be.
- 5* dark sky dancer (Wolyung) skill 2 (look at that again...yes her skill TWO) is better than Kovarci's skill 3. Wolyung skill 2 does AOE attack bar boost 20% (same as Kovarci's skill 3), AOE attack power increase for 2 turns (same as Kovarci's skill 3), and AOE heal. Wolyung also has better base speed than Kovarci and has a 28% speed leader skill.
- 5* dark pioneer (Woonsa) skill 3 is better than Kovarci's s3. Woonsa does AOE big damage on s3, which heals himself, AOE strip beneficial effects, AOE attack bar boost of 20% (same as Kovarci), and his base speed is a huge 118. He can be used in a team that wants to get the 1st turn. Kovarci is so slow she stinks compared to other attack bar boosters.
I listed the above to show that 3*, 4*, and 5* monsters do the same thing as Kovarci, but they do it better. They are faster than Kovarci. In some instances, they also do damage with their skill 3 and Kovarci does none.
Here is my suggestion on how to fix Kovarci.
A) change Kovarci to awaken into speed instead of resistance. She will then have 115 speed (same as Eshir) and still be slower than Woonsa. She could then be used as a 1st turn attack bar booster. She is so slow now that she does not measure up to other monsters' base speeds. Also, because she is so slow, and because AOE strip combined with skill resets and/or attack bar push back is so prevalent, there's a good chance she will never get to go, or that her skills will be unavailable when she does get to go.
B) increase Kovarci's attack power increase to 3 turns, immunity to 3 turns, and increase the attack bar boost to 30% instead of 20%. If you make this change she will then be at least on-par with Bastet and a little better than the 3* monsters. She is a 5* LD monster so she should be a little better than the 3* and 4* monsters.
C) change Kovarci's skill 2 to be as good as Wolyung's skill 2 or Bastet's skill 2. My suggestion is Kovarci's skill 2 should: reduce the cooltimes of the chosen ally by 1 turn, grant the chosen ally speed increase for 2turns, and instantly grants the chosen ally a turn.
Unfortunately, Kovarci is going into storage and will sit there doing nothing until you buff her.

Recent News NeoVolta’s Backup System Saves MDX Labs’ Lifesaving Medications During Multiple Grid Outages - Commercial Battery Backup System Has Prevented the Loss of MDX’s Critical Functions and Thousands of Dollars in Inventory During Numerous Power Failures
SAN DIEGO, May 09, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NeoVolta Inc. (NASDAQ: NEOV) – NeoVolta Inc., manufacturer of Smart Energy Storage Solutions, has kept MDX Labs protected during multiple grid outages with reliable battery backup. Thanks to NeoVolta, the laboratory’s critical functions (refrigeration, server, and lights) have kept running, saving thousands of dollars while sustaining lifesaving medications and vaccines.
Founded in 2020, Henderson-based MDX Labs is the top privately held molecular and clinical diagnostic laboratory in the state of Nevada. MDX provides on-site testing services to a range of manufacturers, casinos, entertainers, restaurants, and nonprofit organizations, and it is the official overflow laboratory for the Southern Nevada Health District.
MDX Labs houses large quantities of vaccines, patient samples, and medications that require refrigeration. When grid outages occurred in the past, MDX would often lose tens of thousands of dollars in product and face periods of product unavailability while awaiting restock. In late 2021, MDX began searching for a battery backup system and discovered NeoVolta, which features a clean lithium iron phosphate battery and a hybrid inverter that can accept 208-volt power connections. NeoVolta can also charge from the power grid, eliminating the need for solar installation. In March 2022, MDX Labs installed NeoVolta’s NV14 Energy Storage System.
“Being able to support commercial facilities that are powered with 208-volt electricity is an amazing capability. Transformers are not required, which saves customers thousands of dollars and eliminates loud equipment that gives off radiant heat,” said Brent Willson, CEO of NeoVolta. “Our energy storage solutions are a very smart investment, especially considering the cost and consequence of an outage that would result in the loss of vital medical supplies and medications. We are thrilled to be partnering with MDX, a world-class clinical diagnostic laboratory.”

FULL ARTICLE NeoVolta Poised for California’s NEM Incentives to Pair Solar with Battery Storage - Additional $630 Million in California State Funding Set Aside to Support Residential Low-Income Solar Plus Storage Adopters
- NeoVolta Poised for California’s NEM Incentives to Pair Solar with Battery Storage
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 26, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NeoVolta Inc. (NASDAQ: NEOV) – NeoVolta Inc., manufacturer of Smart Energy Storage Solutions, announced today that it expects California’s recently updated Net Energy Metering (NEM) program to drive increased demand for energy storage systems.
On December 15, 2022, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued a decision to update the NEM tariff to promote consumer adoption of solar and battery storage. The program will go into effect on April 13, 2023. According to the CPUC, the move was designed to financially incentivize Californians to install both battery and solar systems.
The CPUC stated that the current NEM 2.0 program was not aligned with California’s grid reliability and climate goals, noting that the increased use of electricity between 4 and 9 p.m. causes dependence on fossil fuel gas plants to meet the demand. With the battery storage incentive, the CPUC hopes to see an increased adoption of residential energy storage that will better support the needs of the grid, with customers saving self-generated solar energy for use in the evening hours.
An additional $630 million in state funding has been set aside by the California State Legislature for residential low-income solar plus battery storage adopters. The decision bolsters federal incentives provided by the Inflation Reduction Act for solar and battery storage.
It’s important to note that NEM 3.0 is not retroactive. Rooftop solar systems installed under NEM 2.0 will remain under that policy for a 20-year grandfathering period. This means existing rooftop solar owners who add a battery after the April 13 deadline will not be subject to NEM 3.0.
“We expect that NEM 3.0 will make Californians more aware of their energy consumption, encouraging them to conserve energy and pair rooftop solar systems with battery storage,” said NeoVolta CEO Brent Willson. “Californians who adopt this strategy will dramatically reduce their electrical bills while increasing their energy resiliency during periods of prolonged blackouts, fires, and flooding.”
California’s vast solar plus storage market has a dramatic impact on the grid. California has about 12 GW of distributed solar generation already installed, equal to nearly 25% of peak demand statewide. California also has more than 80,000 customer-owned batteries connected to the grid, with a storage potential of 900 MW, according to a September 2022 study by the California Solar & Storage Association.

2023.05.31 17:33 Beneficial-Cat9884 Prove that (x=1, y=1) and (x=3, y=5) are the only solutions for 3^x = y^2 + 2 , where x and y are natural numbers.
This question appeared on another thread:
Prove that (x=1, y=1) and (x=3, y=5) are the only solutions for 3^x = y^2 + 2 , where x and y are natural numbers.
I'm stuck, and would welcome any suggestions.
Two observations:
observation 1
expressed as a number in base 3, the left hand side of the equation becomes a 1 followed by x 0's. The right hand side of the equation must therefore also take this form and the sum of it's digits will be 1, when expressed in base 3.
example: x,y =(3,5): 3^x = y^2 +2 = 1000 (base 3)
I used a computer program to find the instances where the sum of the digits of y^2 +2, expressed in base 3, is equal to 1. There appear to be no additional solutions in the arbitrary range 0<=y<=10^6, other than at y= 1 and y = 5.
So it seems unlikely to me that will be other solutions where y>10^6.
observation 2
3^x = y^2 +2 can be factorised:
3^x - 3 = y^2 - 1
(3) (3^[x-1]/2 +1 )(3^[x-1]/2 - 1) = (y+1)(y-1)
But I cannot see if this helps steer towards a proof.
Any ideas?

2023.05.31 17:30 sistyko How to monetize a website with PopAds as a publisher
| PopAds is an advertising network that specializes in pop-under ads. It is a popular platform for publishers to monetize their websites and generate revenue. These pop-under ads are displayed in a new browser window that opens behind the main window. When a visitor clicks anywhere on your website, the pop-under ad is triggered, ensuring it doesn't interrupt the user's browsing experience. Here are the steps to get started with PopAds: - Sign up for an account: Visit the PopAds website and sign up for a publisher account. Provide the necessary details and follow the registration process.
- Add your website: After creating an account, add your website to the platform. You will need to provide details about your website, including its URL, category, and target audience.
- Get your website approved: Once you've added your website, it will go through a review process to ensure it meets PopAds' guidelines. Make sure your website complies with their policies.
- Generate ad codes: After your website is approved, you can generate ad codes from your PopAds account. These ad codes will be placed on your website to display the pop-under ads. The ad codes are usually JavaScript or HTML-based snippets and it has also an anti-Adblock script.
- Implement the ad codes: Copy the generated ad code and paste it into the appropriate sections of your website's HTML or content management system (CMS). Place the ad code where you want the pop-under ads to appear.
- Optimize ad placements: Experiment with different ad placements on your website to find the optimal positions that generate good user engagement and maximize earnings. It's important to strike a balance between monetization and user experience, as excessive ads may negatively impact user satisfaction.
- Payment and payout: PopAds typically offers several payment options such as PayPal, Payoneer, Bitcoin and wire transfer, with a low minimun threshold of $10.
Some of the PopAds Key Features: - Worldwide coverage: PopAds has a global reach and offers advertisers from various industries, allowing publishers to monetize their websites regardless of their location or audience demographics.
- Quick approval process: PopAds is known for its relatively quick approval process. After submitting your website for review, it usually takes a short period of time for the approval or rejection decision to be made.
- Competitive rates: PopAds offers competitive rates for publishers. The revenue you can earn will depend on factors such as your website traffic volume, audience quality, and the geo-targeting of the ads.
- Real-time bidding: PopAds operates on a real-time bidding (RTB) system. This means that advertisers bid on your website's traffic, and the highest bidder's ad is displayed. The RTB system aims to maximize revenue by ensuring that the most relevant and highest-paying ads are shown to your visitors.
- Minimum traffic requirements: PopAds doesn't have strict minimum traffic requirements, which makes it accessible to smaller websites and blogs. However, websites with higher traffic volumes generally have a greater earning potential.
- Control and customization: As a publisher, you have control over the frequency of pop-under ads displayed on your website. You can set the desired frequency cap to ensure that ads are not too intrusive for your visitors. PopAds also provides customization options, allowing you to adjust the appearance and behavior of the pop-under ads to match your website's design.
- Support and assistance: PopAds provides support to publishers through their ticketing system. If you encounter any issues or have questions regarding your account or payments, you can reach out to their support team for assistance.
If you need more info, here you can find also a detailed review of PopAds: PopAds - The Best Popunder Ad Network https://preview.redd.it/hb8tqpdk883b1.jpg?width=938&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=779d81c8a0c5856ba9c94c2b66e4b6a8f6337ddd submitted by sistyko to AdsenseAlternatives [link] [comments] |

2023.05.31 17:30 scharfeschafe Bailey should not have received the Catherine Fox Award
Before you get mad at me because "this was such a beautiful twist/Bailey deserved it/etc.", please hear me out! This is about consistency, not about sympathies. I really like Bailey.
The Harper Avery Award was dedicated to surgical advancement and innovation in the past year. When the HA foundation was renamed and reformed by Catherine Fox, this dedication was not changed, so the Cathetine Fox award still honours surgical innovation. All of this is made clear when Richard discusses Cristinas merits with Catherine in season 10. His argument there was clearly that Cristina earned the award, because her contribution to surgical progress was the greatest among the nominees. Catherine defended the decision based on the very sound assessment, that giving a HAA to an HAF employee would look like cronyism. All of this is base for several reasons why Bailey should not have received the CFA: 1. Bailey is even closer with Catherine and Richard than Cristina ever was. Since Bailey was not even a nominee, giving the award to her is the most blatant display of cronyism possible. This is a slap in the face for every nominee of that year, potentially ever, who never won, since apparently you can just waltz in and take the award, if you are friends with the namesake, the CEO and CMO of the foundation. 2. The CFA is an award for surgical innovation, which you earn, not a prize for the most kindhearted or selfless or just or righteous person, which you would or would not deserve. Merediths speech makes it very clear that Bailey received the award for the mobile OB/Gyn clinic and the OB/Gyn training, which, albeit a just cause and a great contribution to society, is not a surgical innovation. 3. Of course you can change the bylaws of an award so it encompasses what Bailey did, but that is something you have to do before the nomination process, and by "do" I mean "announce". The way it was done is extremely intransparent and leads back to reason 1.
- This is a purely dramaturgical argument though: Giving the CFA to someone who actually does not qualify according to the rules (as implicitly admitted in Merediths speech), degrades the CFA to a participation trophy that every protagonist will win at least once in the show anyway.
Now why did I say "please hear me out!"? The CFA is simply the wrong award to give to Bailey in that situation. However, she actually deserves an award. The much more consistent, fair and legal thing to do, would have been to use the CFA ceremony to announce that another award, honouring Baileys and Addisons undeniable achievement, will from now on be given under the name of "Bailey-Montgomery Award for Equality in Healthcare" (or similar) with herself as the first recipient. That is what Bailey actually deserves.

2023.05.31 17:30 welp_im_damned Sony Xperia xz2 premium retrospective: how I learned to love the hump ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) pt1
Note this was written a few months ago, I tried to update the relevant information. so sorry if some stuff is a bit outdated.
Intro: So I got this phone from a friend of mine to mess around with. It's the Japanese au model. I was wondering how this phone felt like being used since it's such a quirky phone even for 2018 standards.
Software: The software on the Sony is quite stockish with some weird omissions. Some quirks I noticed with it is that it uses horizontal app drawer, the three button navigation but no gestures support (my understanding is that some google was late with gesture support for android oems on android 10) , and no fingerprint sensor gesture to swipe down for notifications. But overall it's fine and really didn't lag for what I was using it for media consumption
Hey at least I can put our lord and savior the android turtle on the AOD (and not the android 8 to 10, that was a sin against duARTe)
my main gripe with the software is with Sony support of it. So their official support with google play services is 2 os updates and 3 years of security updates.
BUT
They have this thing called Sony developers world and they updated the phones with new linux kernels and the new android versions of asop. I thought this died out in 2015/2016 or something due to the 810/808 #neverforget
BUT NO!
Its still alive and its updated by the Sony devs (The model I have at least). Now I understand that people who don't work for Sony contribute to github and such so they may not be able to use it for an actual update since they would need to pay people for that work. But they update the linux kernel for their phones that they don't technically support anymore. But how much would it cost to actually support the device for 4 to 5 years even if it's only security updates. Since you have actually Sony devs working on this and being paid for it.
Now if there is someone at Sony reading this please don't kill this project. Since its a very cool thing you're doing. But can you put the extra money and push these updates with the Sony blobs/google play services.
Open Devices - Open Devices - Sony Developer World
Display/Audio: I can see why companies like Sony and LG still held on to ips in 2019, especially comparing it to my Pixel 2 xl display and man I just now realized how bad it was if you're not Samsung/Apple or LG post v30.
The 4k display is cool and it didn't seem to take too much battery. It was comparable to my Pixel 2 xl or 7 pro sot (wifi only). I assume this is due to Sony downscaling the output to 1080p for anything that isn't rendered in 4k like 1080p videos. They do have a video image enhancement, but I disabled it since Youtube’s 1080p looked over sharpened. What I expected to be a pain point is its brightness. But it never seemed like an issue to me. Maybe because I expected to be unusable from all the comments on
android and YouTube videos saying Sony displays are very dim.
Overall I think its a fine display ,maybe a bit below the average for its time but still perfectly usable.
The speakers. What can I say? I love my front-facing speakers. They are slightly quieter compared to my Pixel 2 xl but they don't sound as tinny. Shame that only the new xperia and gaming phone still have front facing speakers.
The phone also had Sony's dynamic vibration. My understanding was that it’s a woofer of some (I'm probably wrong) It's a bit gimmicky but I enjoyed it when watching movies. Plus the motors are large, which gives stronger haptic feedback which I enjoy. An example of that was when receiving a phone call. Since the buzz has a distinct pattern.
The main downside to Sony’s audio setup on this phone is there being no headphone jack. Which is ironic since they brought it back like two years later, When everyone else removed theirs.
Camera: The photos aren't bad but I will have a more in depth writing/video on it soon compared to my Pixel 2 xl/ Pixel 7 pro for part 2.
The photos were acceptable imo. Maybe like 1 step behind generally but overall still usable.
But as mr mobile said in his review for the xz premium “The smartphone that can almost stop time” This has been the most fun feature I used on this phone or any phone period and its great. I wish Sony would introduce it again and at 4k instead of 1080p. It's an experience I can't describe other than life changing.
It made me come around slow mo on phones for once. But that only lasted for .09 seconds.
Also it has a camera shutter button which is nice. Also the AU model I had I couldn't turn off the shutter sound. Which is annoying. Also while it can take the photos fast the processing on them is slow and when you half press to focus the image quality in the preview degrades. But the photo itself is fine.
Design: it’s something only a mother could love or it’s trying to cosplay a turtle shell or what Sony calls ambient flow. I think it feels nice. But the finger sensor placement sucks. I understand why they did it while they still tried to compete in the U.S. market. But due to the placement I would always put my finger on the camera glass instead of the sensor. If they had pushed the camera up or actually put the sensor in the power button it would also be less of an issue. Also it’s very heavy, I would prefer it to use the lumia plastic so it can be lighter. Also with the added thickness it seemed wasted, not a larger battery or sensor used. My Pixel 7 pro with the camera bump is thinner than the xz2 premium. Overall This design feels it's better for smaller phones like the xz2 compact. But I do wonder if Sony will ever go back to this design. I think they can use the space more efficiently now by using multi layered PCBs and larger sensors on something like the xz2 compact.
Comparing it to phones then and now: At the time this was a unique phone that had its ups and down. But being released one month before the GOAT of smartphones of its time, Samsung Note 9 (peak Note imo) was a death sentence at its msrp of 1k usd. It was competing against a Samsung that actually gave a shit about it being the Thinkpads of phones with no cost cutting and not the Apple of android that feels cheaper but costs as much as an iphone. Or a pre-baned huawei that was lighting a fire on everyone's ass with its innovations.
Comparing it with phones now. I honestly prefer the xz2 premium. Maybe because I have nostalgia for phones from the 2016-2019 era. Maybe because of my frustration with new phones offer less like removal of hardware features like the headphone jack and expandable storage, shittier cameras due to over processing bullshit in the west (excluding Vivo and Xiaomi) because they cant figure out how to do less processing on these big sensors, same or worse performance from the last two years (fuck you Qualcom/Samsung fab). The only objectively better thing we have gotten are screens But thats it. It really feels like on the flagship level oems are trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, like the base iphone. But a 400 dollar midrange android will do that perfectly, like a Pixel A or Samsung A5x or Oneplus Nord series.
I find it ironic that Sony and Asus are the only phone brands that haven't turned their flagship phone into the lowest common denominator by creating their own niches, while everything else in the flagship range are fighting for the same general consumer.
But hey at least in 2023 I have some hope. We have vivo and xiaomi showing the power of the 1 inch sensor. The s23u being what the s22u should have been with a good soc, Oneplus being going back to its roots, Sony hopefully not having their mk5 generation of phones over heat again after two minutes of recording (looks like that with early hands on), and Asus not turning me into their sales rep because the my Zenfone 9 megathread was the first thing you found about its release date, when you google searched the damn phone for the first few months.

2023.05.31 17:28 ka1esalad r/truerateme, where you rate people’s looks based on a guide on a scale of 3-8 (no one is a 1/10 and 2/9 is super rare). Except if you stray from the mod’s opinions (90% of people are a 5), you get banned.
I stumbled upon this sub randomly one day and its so weird. The guide sort of makes sense, until you actually see it in action.
Usually the “true” subreddits are for no holding back/saving peoples feelings. So theoretically you’d think this sub would be more varied since everyone has different tastes, right?
Pretty much everyone gets rated from 4.5-5.5. Most people don’t explain why, they just give the number. If you give someone who isn’t a model a 6, you’ll get warned by a mod for overrating. If you consider someone unattractive and give them a 4, you’re getting warned for underrating. 3 strikes, yer out.
Oh and also, no comments without giving a rating number for some reason.
Like why even have a discussion if you must have this specific rating? Couldn’t the mods just do it?
Additionally all the active mods have these profile pictures of overly attractive models and none have made their own posts on the sub. Its just strange.

2023.05.31 17:27 Automox_ What is a zero-day vulnerability and best practices for patching
If you’re in the IT space, you’ll hardly recollect December 2021 as the season for cheer, with the
Apache Log4j vulnerability discovery causing shockwaves in the IT community. The finding is perhaps the most well-documented zero-day vulnerability in recent years,
with a massive impact vector because of Apache’s global install base.
Although zero-day vulnerabilities have been around for years, the Log4j incident opened up significant visibility to zero-day vulnerabilities in commonly deployed IT applications and highlighted the impact of how devastating the negative impacts can be at a large scale.
Here's more on what a zero-day vulnerability is and the aspects that make it significant, in the context of the ITOps ecosystem. submitted by

2023.05.31 17:26 Technical-Poet-4093 Sell the Cheetah, buy the Penguin
Tyreek Hill has recently turned 29. Still a young Cheetah in life but old in fantasy. He’s fast and he’s great… until he’s not. When will that be? I don’t know and neither do you, but history shows WR’s start declining after age 28 and dramatically drop off at 30. There are outliers of course, but to build a true dynasty, don’t bank on outliers.
WR’s who are the best of the best see there value cut in half or worse every year. Recently looking at Hopkins, Kupp, Julio Jones, AJ Green, Antonio Brown.
Hill is under contract for 4 more years with the Dolphins although it’s likely going to be 3 years ($45M cap savings by cutting before 2026) which aligns with what Hill said this offseason about retiring after playing 10 seasons. If Hill continues to perform like he historically has, he’s still a tremendous value despite being 29. The qualifying “if” concerns me based on historical trends. I’d rather get out a year early and recoup maximum value vs. bag holding a player like Hopkins who’s currently valued the same on KTC as Raider’s TE Michael Mayer. Yikes.
Disclosure: I tried trading for Hill and was outbid. This is my coping mechanism.

2023.05.31 17:25 dallasdave22 Need help updating BIOS for Crosshair Hero motherboard
Hello everyone,
I have a AMD based gaming PC featuring the ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (wifi).
I've been having issues with random pauses in Windows 10 for several months (it happens launching programs including Task Manager). I've done some basic troubleshooting with no luck, and I'm now at the point where I want to try updating my BIOS (for the first time).
I went to the site, downloaded ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO BIOS 4501 file, unzipped, renamed, put on an external Fat32 flash drive, rebooted, and tried to use the ez flash to update. But it keeps saying the CAP file is not valid. I've attempted this several times and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Any suggestions?
