2023.05.28 18:38 jk6425 Debating between Kia Seltos and Toyota Corolla Cross

I don’t know a lot about cars, and I’m having a hard time choosing between a 2024 Kia Seltos EX premium or 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross LE Premium AWD, I’m in Canada FYI as I know there are differences between vehicles in different countries.
I recently had a Seltos as a rental car and I absolutely loved it compared to my sedan. I’m just hesitant with the reliability of a Kia long term.
I haven’t test drove or seen a Corolla Cross yet in person but I like how it looks based on what I’ve seen online, I should be able to test drive this week. I know Toyotas are known for reliability. I am also able to get a discount on a Toyota through family.
I’ve been told the wait time for a Seltos is 2-6 months, and for a Corolla Cross I’ve been told 3-12 months, these are based on what I’ve heard from multiple dealerships. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with my car so I’m not on a rush to replace it thankfully.
I am a person that drives about 30000 km a year, mostly highway driving with my commute to work, and I want to keep this vehicle for a long time. This is why I’m hesitant with getting the Seltos. I guess if I took good care of a Seltos with maintenance as per the schedule and have the full warranty I’d hope the car would stay in good condition long term. (I heard kias require more frequent oil changes?)
I know and have more faith that if Toyotas are taken care of they will last for the long run! The Corolla cross is also slightly better on gas, and I think the trim I’m interested in costs slightly less than the Seltos. Plus I’d get my family discount. There’s also the depreciation of my current vehicle if I have to wait a year for the Corolla cross (I have a 2019 Honda civic ex with 149000 km…)
I like both vehicles, so I guess I’m just questioning the long term reliability of kias….. I didn’t love the Hyundai Kona and financially the Honda HRV is out of the question… any advice or input would be appreciated!

2023.05.28 18:36 Top_Ant9553 WWYD 20 year old male in the GTA

Good afternoon PFC, currently in a bit of a finance pickle. To begin I'm a 20-year-old male living in the GTA on my own, however, I am returning to college in September and won't be able to work my current high-paying job.
I have no debt other than my car which is currently at 28285.03$ of principal remaining and its 5% interest for the next 6 years (I know a lot however I needed a car within one week last May for work my only option was new unless I wanted to overpay heavy on used).
My current COL is 647.58 (student housing), around 350 a month on groceries, roughly 130 a month on gym and supplements (not up for debate to change), gas is covered by my work mileage, a mind-numbing 420.19 on car payments, and an astronomical 548.16 a month on insurance. Coming to a grand total of 2095.93 a month to live here. No, I do not have any other hobbies than the gym and hiking and no alcohol or partying.
As far as current funds go I have 1855.90 in a chequing account and 5090.55 in a Wealthsimple TSFA invested in cash.to since I don't know where I should put the money. Take-home pay after taxes is rough 687.50 weekly at 37.5 hours a week some weeks I can get over 50 hours just depends on how busy we are and I get 242.50 a week in mileage (I only use about 60$ of it on gas and the GO train). For a grand total of 3720 a month. This means 1624.07 can go into savings or any extras I want.
I know I am not strapped for cash or in too terrible of a position but I can foresee the rough time I will have once I'm having to pay big boy rent and when I return to school and will have to work for minimum wage with fewer hours, so I have a few options.
  1. Keep my exact same situation as is and return to school with around 13k in the bank and take OSAP which for me is around 8k and just ride out the year.
  2. Keep living in the GTA but opt for a cheaper car, my sale value is around 25k for my car which means I will need to pay the 3 thousandish difference. However, my parent's neighbours are selling their old Civic for around 7.5k which I can insure for 280ish a month. This option will wipe my saving and make me have to borrow a bit from my parents but I will have 720 a month less I will have to spend on a car.
  3. Move home to live with my parents and keeping my current car, this will increase my commute time by a bare minimum of 80 minutes a day however I will be saving around 1k a month since no housing cost and no cost of food
  4. Moving home to live with my parents and buy the Civic, this would net me around an extra 1700 a month. This would be massive for my savings and is the option I'm most considering.
Pros and Cons time.
Pros of Civic, not having to spend an extra 700 plus a month on a car anymore. Cons of the Civic, I absolutely love my car and all the features inside of it which the Civic just doesn't have.
Pros of moving home, getting to see my parents and saving an extra 1k a month. Cons of moving home, seeing my parents every day and an extra 80 minutes to spend commuting in the car and the train commute stays the same at around 1 hour and 40 a day.
I just need someone to either tell me what is the best course of action because I am unsure right now.
I'm also sure you're wondering why my premium is so high, my insurance address is listed as my parent's house which is in the middle of the country and not the GTA. However, this price is reflecting my G2 driver's license and a tree that fell onto my car while driving which somehow is an at-fault accident since it was only me involved even though I had zero control over it. My premium will drop Monday since I got my G yesterday.
Tldr; Keep spending more money to save 80 minutes a day commuting and driving a nicer car while living alone or move home and buy a cheaper car increasing my commute time but lowering my COL to around 500 a month.

Hey gang I finally broke down and got another printer. My first is an Ender 3 I upgraded with new hotend, metal extruder, bigtreetech v3, springs and pei bed.
So after looking I finally settled for the Ender 3 Max Neo mainly because of price and for the dual z, large print bed and the fact I'm very familiar with brand. curious if anyone has any advise/warning/tips about this printer.
PS found it cheapest at Walmart for $340 after tax with free shipping. Most was same before tax in case anyone looking. Does take a week to ship tho but I'm in no rush.

2023.05.28 18:25 red-gf Pet sitting - second job.

I (F22) feel as though getting this off my chest will help me somehow - I’m on mobile so apologies in advance for anything incorrect.
I’ve experienced life at a peak when my parents had 7 kids (which welcomed 4 more grandchildren) and losing my dad so young has financially hurt my family since 2009. Due to these life events, I’ve avoided relying on mom since she has herself and 6 people she still provides for. One drug addict sister, her four children, and another sibling who’s in school. I live in south florida again and it’s inescapable to see the lavish lives people have. Im from here and I was once apart of that until we moved. (young and unknowingly, but my dad raised me well and although spoiled me in my terms; also taught me important life lessons about cherishing what we have)
I wish he was here to continue providing both. Im filled with resentment towards others because I have my full time job throughout the week, but to make ends meet I have to fill my extra time with anything that will help keep my neck above the water. I’ve chosen pet sitting to be my secondary income, and although it’s therapeutic to be around such awesome animals, I’m visiting multimillion dollar homes to see them. I don’t believe that money would buy me happiness, but it’s a kick in the gut to commute to these homes as my gas is blinking ‘low’ at me and I’m earning a drop in the bucket. I have pulled every dollar from any bank account that had one in it to pay for todays gas. I’ve been independent since 17, and I’m just so tired.

2023.05.28 18:24 NWe3 2,4,6,8,10 (EVEN) Event Stages are Better (11 patches of collected data)

2,4,6,8,10 (EVEN) Event Stages are Better (11 patches of collected data)
TLDR:
EVEN event stages are better than ODD event stages in overall event currency yield
However, Even stages only give 6* memories (mems) by RNG and 2* to 5* mems for exp (at least thats what I use them for)
With this in mind even Event stages are better for when you want to:
  • Acquire older mems just in case we can suddenly put them on weapons
    • if you want to acquire older mems without RNG do it on Her Last Bow, Sprial of Chronos and/or Chaos Unsnarled since those are the cheapest times to buy them (as of writing). details (hoarding guide)
  • Reroll resonance for older mems
  • Farm mem xp
  • Have a dose of that "gacha success experience", you feel it for each 6* mem you acquire, only for it to turn into disappointment when the reroll is trash
Details:
  • If you convert the mems from even stages to currency it will yield at least 57%(1.57x) more and average 86%(1.86x) more
  • 6* mem is still subject to RNG, the higher the variety of mems you want to reroll for, the better it is to run event stages
    • The more perfect resonance you have the less efficient it is to do even stages
  • For the most part drop rate is higher than declared 17.50% and only debut mem is not in pool
Summary of Data
Converting Memory Drops into currency:
  • 6* mem is valued equal to full priced mem at event store
  • 5* to 2* mems are treated as exp material and prized based 4* memory enhancer (300xp) at event store
    • 4* (300xp) prized equal to 1 pc of 4* memory enhancer based on event store
    • 5* (500xp) is 4* x 1.67
    • 3* (100xp) is 4* /3
    • 2* (50xp) is 4* / 6
  • For Example
    • In Her Last Bow's event store one 6* full priced mem = 625, one 4* full priced memory = 8.9 (89 for 10pcs)
    • So if i get 1 of each mem (2* to 6*) they will priced as
      • 2* = 1.48 (8.9/6)
      • 3* = 2.97 (8.9/3)
      • 4* = 8.9
      • 5* = 14.86 (8.9*1.67)
      • 6* = 625
    • The extra currency from the even stages is also added to the total
Data Collection
  • I just farm the stages and record the results
  • I've been doing this for almost a year so mistakes are definitely possible but should not be enough to change the conclusion
Extra thoughts
If you have been in the community for a while then you know that "odd stages" is the way to go and "even stages" are useless, when I was looking for information about this there were basically none, the notion of "odd only and even useless" is purely based on opinion of players with limited experience in even stages. This didn't sit right me, I mean, why would Kuro make a completely useless stage?
Anyway that was a year ago, for a very long time I've already known that Even stages were better for specific scenarios but with the news of attaching memories to 6* Weapons I thought to share this information as it might be useful for some
Also it's sad that even stages will be removed in Wintry Shackles, considering that this is the situationally objectively 1.8x better but extremely underappreciated event stage to farm. Hey, if you can't agree with that then at the very least they aren't useless.
Any feedback is welcome

2023.05.28 18:23 Feisty-Equivalent-92 2017 GT financed or ecoboost in cash?

I'm planning on getting one of these cars for my birthday in a couple of months, and should have enough saved to buy an ecoboost in cash, or finance about 7k on the GT (which I'd be able to pay off within 3-4 months). My biggest concern is the ongoing cost of the GT. I'm a 19 year old guy with a clean driving record, any idea what the insurance difference would be between these two? My parents would be paying it, but I don't want to be putting a huge burden on them. Additionally, any ideas on the gas price difference? I was driving a V6 06 that got 17mpg for a while, so I don't mind if it's in a similar range, but anything lower than that and I'd have to reconsider. The GT is obviously more exciting, but I don't know if that's just my preconceived notions of having a GT. Just trying to see if it's worth the price difference- in the long term, with things like the gas and insurance. Once I have the car paid off and some saved, I won't be working much due to school. Is the GT worth it considering the factors?

2023.05.28 18:19 MindlessVegeta $NRK Best Potential of 2023 Huge Marketing Plans Active Community

I stumbled upon a fresh, groundbreaking project that's shaking up the crypto scene - NORDEK and its coin $NRK. It’s gaining traction on several exchanges, starting with MEXC tomorrow, followed by BITMART this week, and soon a Tier 1 Exchange (they’ll announce soon). The $NRK coin has soared from $0.02 to $0.28, and the market cap appears to be still extremely reasonable compared to other Layer 2 solutions.
Currently anyone can buy on Coinstore. Deposits are live on MEXC, trading starts tomorrow:
What’s causing the stir around NORDEK? Are we looking at just another Layer 2 protocol, or could this be the elusive 'Polygon Killer' we've all been waiting for?
Main reasons I think this can be huge:
Ethereum’s rising gas fees have highlighted the urgent need for efficient Layer 2 options.
NORDEK promises ZERO GAS FEES. Yes, you read that right! NORDEK plan to accomplish this using a different approach.
Focusing on devising unique solutions for Payments (Norpay) and Gaming (GameHub).
NORPAY, their flagship offering, is more than just another DeFi tool.
Crypto Debit Card coupled with a payment processor.
Additional utility to tokens of all top projects built on or supporting the NORDEK Blockchain.
ZERO GAS FEE for tokens on NORDEK Blockchain, saving up on huge transaction charges
GameHub, a space where GameFi projects supporting the NORDEK Blockchain will be automatically integrated.
Sizeable WEB2 communities to partake in WEB3 games, further expanding the project's reach.
Partnerships with multiple gaming guilds ensures sureshot high usage of the blockchain
Infrastructure support and grants to projects that remain exclusive on the NORDEK blockchain.
Multiple GameFi projects are integrating NORDEK Blockchain
Word has it that more than 18 DeFi and GameFi projects are currently being built on the NORDEK Blockchain. It’s a protocol worth keeping an eye on, especially for those who missed the boat on other booming blockchains.
$NRK is already live for trading on Coinstore and deposits have commenced on MEXC under $NRK/USDT pair. They're on top position on MEXC Kickstarter!

2023.05.28 18:19 thequejos Needing advice for upcoming meeting with district

I'm hoping for help for an upcoming meeting between my son/daughter-in-law and the the school district special needs preschool program director.
My grandson has a physical disability and is receiving services through the county, both PT and OT. This program ends at his 3rd birthday which is when the school district takes over.
At the initial meeting, the director told them that she is not sure that there is anything in their program which would meet his needs. She is only aware of kids receiving services with IEP's for speech, autism, and learning disabilities getting PT or OT. I taught in the district for over 30 years and have gotten quite a few students with no learning disability who still received both OT and PT, one with his exact disability.
My DIL has asked me to attend the meeting where they go over results and discuss services available. Their preschool is a mix of gen-ed and IEP's, mainly for speech. The other student I had a few years ago who is still in the district has a 1-on-1 aide. He got this aide after I fought for his needs.
I'm looking for specific phrases I can use during this meeting to make it very clear that he also deserves an aide. I know to say that he will not be able to 'access the curriculum', take out supplies, or write without an aide. I also know that he will not be safe on the playground without an adult specifically near him at all times.
He can not use his arms much (some finger movement, no muscle strength). He wears leg braces and is a huge fall risk. He can not raise his arms to break his fall. He can not feed himself or do self care/bathroom needs. Although he may need speech for articulation due to his tongue being weak, he has hit all cognitive milestones and seems to have no learning delays. The special ed director seems to believe that a mild/mod or mod/severe special day class when he is 5 would be the best fit. I think this is the cheapest fit but absolutely not the best educational fit.
Can anyone please help me word my case to support my grandson? Thank you very much.

2023.05.28 18:19 NewSpringMoney New Dad Advice for Fussy Newbirn

So I’m a new Dad, my little man is going on 3 weeks old in a couple days.
Sometime last week my guy started being fussy pretty much any time he’s not eating (breast fed) or sleeping, he actually sleeps very well at night. During the day though he’s crying a lot and generally you can tell he’s got some straining pain from gas. We’ve tried a lot of items for gas, colic, reflux, leg movements like bicycles.
We saw our pediatrician for his two week and all was good according to him. All the fussiness started after we left the appointment so we waited a couple days and then took him back to see the doc (luckily he’s my in laws neighbor so just ran him by his house) and again all was fine.
He’s still very fussy this morning after eating and hard to soothe if at all. Any advice what we can do to help him? My wife feels like she’s doing a bad job so trying to support her as well through it.

2023.05.28 18:15 ConstantStatistician My naval rework ideas with new ships and rules

  1. A new building, the Shipyard, can be built on a field tile adjacent to water or on a shallow water tile. Each city can only build 1 shipyard, which costs 20 stars (subject to change).
  2. The shipyard is used to directly create naval units on it. These units are the primary units of naval combat. They cannot capture cities or villages but can investigate ruins on water. Each ship constructed by a shipyard counts as 1 population to its city's unit limit. The warrior battleship that could previously be obtained from a water ruin is replaced by a Frigate, which will be detailed below.
  3. The 15 star battleship upgrade will be removed. Units can still be upgraded to the 5 star ship for mobility and damage increases. All boat and ship HP is standardized to 15 regardless of the original unit. This is the HP of the ship itself; once it lands, the original unit retains however much HP it had before it entered a port and became a boat/ship. A giant can board a boat, receive damage so it's left with 1 HP, and have 40 HP when it lands again. If this change makes them too vulnerable, I'm willing to revert it.
  4. A city can create both a standard unit in the city itself and a naval unit in its corresponding shipyard in the same turn.
  5. New naval units:
In addition to all of this, the standard 5 star ship with its 15 HP, 2 ATK, 2 DEF, 3 Movement, and 2 Range will still exist. Warrior spam is the cheapest option for this.

2023.05.28 18:14 Aquaenergyexpo Transforming the World with Innovative Energy Solutions

In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and growing concerns about climate change, the power industry has emerged as a focal point of innovation and transformation. From renewable energy sources to advancements in grid technology, the power sector continues to make significant strides in meeting the global demand for reliable and sustainable energy. In this article, we will explore some of the latest power news, highlighting breakthroughs, trends, and developments that are reshaping the way we generate, distribute, and consume power.
  1. Renewable Energy Surges Ahead
Renewable energy has been gaining momentum over the past decade, and the recent years have witnessed remarkable progress in this field. Solar and wind power, in particular, have seen exponential growth, with falling costs and increased efficiency making them viable alternatives to traditional fossil fuel-based energy sources. According to recent reports, solar and wind energy installations have reached record levels globally, with several countries aiming for 100% renewable energy targets in the near future. These advancements are crucial steps towards reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change.
  1. Energy Storage Solutions
One of the key challenges of renewable energy sources has been their intermittent nature, as the sun does not always shine, and the wind does not always blow. However, energy storage technologies have emerged as a game-changer in addressing this issue. Advancements in battery technology, such as lithium-ion batteries, have made it possible to store excess energy generated during peak production periods and utilize it during times of high demand or low renewable generation. This integration of energy storage solutions into power grids enhances grid stability, ensures a consistent power supply, and facilitates the further adoption of renewable energy.
  1. Smart Grids and Digitalization
The power industry is undergoing a digital revolution, with the rise of smart grids and advanced metering infrastructure. Smart grids utilize digital technology to monitor and manage power supply and demand in real-time, optimizing efficiency and reducing energy wastage. These grids enable two-way communication between power utilities and consumers, empowering individuals to actively participate in managing their energy consumption. Furthermore, smart grids facilitate the integration of distributed energy resources, such as rooftop solar panels and electric vehicles, into the grid, creating a more decentralized and resilient power system.
  1. Electrification of Transportation
Transportation accounts for a significant portion of global greenhouse gas emissions, making the electrification of vehicles a crucial step in achieving a sustainable future. Electric vehicles (EVs) have gained considerable traction in recent years, with major automobile manufacturers investing heavily in their development. Governments worldwide are implementing incentives and building charging infrastructure to promote EV adoption. The transition to electric transportation not only reduces emissions but also opens up opportunities for vehicle-to-grid integration, where EV batteries can be used to store and supply power back to the grid during peak demand periods.
  1. Nuclear Power and Advanced Reactors

Should I sell or not?
I've had an 05 outback since I was 16 and before that it was my mom's so there are a lot of good memories here. I've been away at college for 2 years and I didn't bring her with me bc of gas, parking, maintenance, etc. And it's going to take another 2 to finish. Being a broke college student, I could definitely use the money but I've always loved the idea of having my own project car to work on I've just never been in the position where I could. I'd be selling to a family member who could use it but I'm still caught up on whether I should sell or not. It's an automatic so would it even make a good project? Should I get something later on that doesn't have 250k on the clock? Idk man sorry for the wall of text what do yall think

2023.05.28 18:09 hook-echo Dream of a Large Cat

I had this strange dream just now. There was a large cat, maybe about 3 feet long from head to butt (not including her tail), that was following me. Her fur was a deep royal blue color. At first I thought it was the sun shining off of black fur, but it was actually a deep blue color which I found very strange.
Anyway, she followed me throughout this small unknown town and I was a little nervous. She was a very large cat after all. When I turned to see where she was, she was right at my heels. She sat down, looked up at me with kindness in her eyes, and jumped! She jumped up into my arms. She let me hold her like you would a child on your hip.
The purring...oh, that deep peaceful purr that emanated from her. I felt that vibration on my chest and shoulder. It felt nice. I honestly was a little bummed that I woke up. I carried that cat through this town for a while.
I stopped at a gas station, apparently my landlord owned it. I told the man that I was going to drop off my rent check but actually had forgotten it. He was okay with it, but was very nervous about my new friend, haha.
Any idea what this deep royal blue colored cat means? She was as sweet as pie....she made me feel so comforted and loved. The vibrations of her purrs made me feel so at peace. This dream is definitely a nice change from the parade of nightmares I've had for the last few weeks. Any help would mean the world to me, thank you! 💜
