After the post yesterday by that poor innocent buyer who got dicked around by his estate agent, it's time to have a real think about this profession.
Irish estate agents are just professional liars. Ask them anything about a house, they'll just lie through their teeth and tell you whatever you want to hear. You can't take a word they say seriously. And they have near-complete immunity. The cunts just get away with it.
I called it a "profession" here. What are their qualifications? Lying all their lives I'd say. What is their regulatory body? Jesus is their regulatory body (and the PRAI).
Biggest joke ever are the "valuers". Irish redditors of a more mature persuasion might recall what happened whenever Sean Dunne bought the Jurys Ballsbridge Hotel at the height of the boom. Sean asked his girlfriend of the time, socialite Gayle Killilea, to pick a number between 80 and 240 for a big surprise. Gayle thought he was going to buy her diamonds or something and picked 240 so Sean made a bid of €240million on the hotel - about 4 or 5 times what it was worth. There were emergency meetings in the Ulster Bank credit committee that night. One problem was that the Credit Committee couldn't get a loan without a professional "independent" valuation. A professional "independent" valuation was obtained that very night, low and behold for the very amount that Gayle had picked at random. This valuer was one of the top estate agents in Dublin, his name made the valuation watertight - fucking of course he was one of the top estate agents in Dublin.
These thick, lazy cunts get paid more than the solicitors do. Having reviewed what I've written above, I'd love to be one. How do I do that? I just decide I'm an estate agent now?

I've been trying to apply to different positions all across Europe (I'm an EU citizen) these last days as I'm ending a Frontend internship in about a week and I was told that sadly there are no open positions at the moment where I'm doing the internship.
I have to add that I'm still studying my CS degree (though I have some other official studies from Spain that allow me to work as a developer, I think it's called vocational training in English) but I am planning to study slowly the subjects that I have left as I currently need to earn money.
So far I only find other internships or offers where they ask for at least 3 years of experience, I'm sending my CV anyways but I'm being rejected without doing any interviews (I'm guessing because I've only got 1 year of experience).

I was told by my manager that I exceeded their expectations at the internship and he even offered himself to write a recommendation letter. I think that I do have a higher level with React than you would expect from someone with just 1 year of experience (I'm writing custom hooks, pointing out structural problems in the codebase and refactoring them and, I usually don't need help and can work on my own, it is rare for me to need to ask for help).
Still, I guess that I'm being rejected without being given the opportunity to prove myself the moment people see that I only have 1 year of experience (and maybe that I haven't finished my degree yet).
Any ideas on what could I do to have more chances of getting interviewed, I feel that once I got to the interview it'd be much easier to prove my skills and actually get hired.

I'm a truck driver in Florida. About a month ago, i let our shop know that a part was close to needing replacement. It has been noted on my pre trip inspection daily since then. Yesterday i went to our lead mechanic with that small part needing to be replaced. He said he's too busy and I'll have to wait. I said that I'm not driving the truck until it's replaced so I'll be waiting in the office. I get called back a little while later. When the mechanic confirmed that I was refusing to drive the truck(because not only is it illegal, it's dangerous) he said "do you know how ret☆☆☆ed that is?" I closed my mouth and walked straight back to the office to let them know that I'm starting a formal complaint. (My manager wasn't at work yet so I haven't spoken with them yet.)
When i returned to collect my truck,(took less than 5 minutes to undo 2 bolts and swap the part) the mechanic said that he used the last of this part and he's not ordering anymore. so if I need another, he's going to purposely not order it for a week so I won't have a truck to drive(so no pay) for a week.
Should I just email this to HR and CC my manager, send this to HR only or just my manager?

I (40m) am bi and used to be very active in the community I used to go to marches hell I used to be a bouncer at a gay club in San Diego back in 2005. I have recently had some bad interactions within the community or with people who are in the community including being called a homophobe and a bigot just because of my stance on the second ammendment in a conversation where sexual preference hadn't even come up until I was called a homophobe... I've always stood up for those in the community and was deeply hurt by this comment I feel like a community that was built on love and inclusion has become very hurtful and not able to have constructive discussion about anything anymore... it saddens me and confuses me at the same time. I have many friends and family who are in the community but I feel the need to distance myself just for my own mental health or is this just the state of the LGBT community where I now live (Portland area)... so AITAH

I have been studying islam and trying to get closer to my religion for some time now. I was born alevi (not alewi) and am trying to find the right path right now. Its rly hard to deal with all the hate, disrepect, death threats, jokes about what they did to my fellow alevis back in the days and all the discrimimation. As shias you guys have obviously experienced the same thing. (Just to clarify I personaly know more about suni islam than alevi islam or shia islam and my believes dont rly align with alevi islam but i also wouldnt consider myself suni or shia) I feel way more welcome in this community and over time have come to see that shias are usualy way more educated not only in islam but also just educationalwise. Still all this hate fills me with hatred and makes me want to do violent acts even tho ofc its not good and i wouldnt live them out. Coming from a family where (hypotheticaly) alot my cousins have become "freedomfighter" (i hope you guys know what i mean with this) i start glorifying the thimgs these groups do but i also realize that it is moraly wrong and also wrong in a religious sense. I would rly apriciate some advice om how to deal with all this and maybe some facts that convinced you guys that shia islam is the right way. Hello guys!
I use iMovie for editing, and I record myself playing instruments. Basically covering the songs.
I usually just play let’s say bass first, and then add video with guitar etc.
But I want to do split screen video to have both playing simultaneously. So bass on top, guitar on bottom.
Now, I record videos in Portrait mode with a phone for Instagram (phone is iPhone 14 Pro Max, I record in 4k60FPS, HDR on, back camera).
When I send videos to iMovie on Mac, those videos look perfect by itself. Problem is when I press “Overlay” then “SplitScreen” and for instance “Top”. Videos become super zoomed in, and there is no way for me to adjust them. I just want to center the videos differently, but iMovie doesn’t allow that, it just zooms in a certain area of both videos (I assume center) and that’s it).
I tried playing with aspect ratios, but I don’t understand them, Instagram uses 9:16 aspect ratio, so I tried putting both videos at 9:8 assuming that’s half of it, but apparently I’m dumb so it isn’t.
Is there any way to do this, while still keeping it in Portrait mode?

Hey redditors,
I (20f) have been having a really sucky period and it's driving me nuts. I have stage 1 endometriosis, but my periods are manageable with OTC painkillers. This time however, I feel worse than normal. Even with maximum painkillers I feel achey and crampy and overall just sick. The pain is everywhere (abdomen, back, legs, butt, even reaches my lower ribs) and it's mostly dull, with a sudden stab every so often.
The only thing different that I did, was stop birth control a week earlier due to exams and a festival where I'll be providing first aid (can't do those things while pumped up on painkillers). I've done this some times before, only out of necessity, either a week earlier or later which never caused issues.
I'm mostly just worried that I feel so sick. Besides the pain, I'm also nauseated and a little shaky, constipated and overall just really tired. I stopped the pill on Sunday (last dose Saturday) and started my period on Wednesday as it usually does. No major difference in bleeding other than that it was slightly thicker and had more clots than usual on the first day.
Should I go see my GP or just take it easy and wait it out?

What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?

1. Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. This includes not harassing moderators of subreddits who have chosen not to take part: no one likes a missionary, a used-car salesman, or a flame warrior.

A longer version of what happened:
I arrived in Bangkok late Friday 07 April and stayed at a hostel on Khaosan Road. I experienced (what is now) the worst jet lag of my life and got maybe ~3 hours of sleep Friday and Saturday night each. On Sunday, I decided to walk to the Sky Train to visit True Digital Park. When I was passing Wat Saket, a Thai man seemingly came out of nowhere and started chatting me up. Usually when I travel, I’m on guard and swat this sorta thing away, but I decided to relax and go with it this time. He gave me the whole thing about the Thai holidays, gas prices, no taxes on big items (such as suits), and I believed it because Songkran was soon. He pulled out a Dentyne Ice cardboard gum wrapper (which I still have lol) wrote down 5 places I should visit, hailed a “60 thb” tuk tuk, and I was on my way. At the first stop was temple (I don’t remember which one) where another Thai man chatted me up in near perfect English, and we had a good conversation (or so I thought). The next place was the suit place, where I was fitted for 2 suit jackets, a handful of shirts and 2 pair of pants. I was instructed to come back for re-fitting later that evening, and went on with my tour. I went to the re-fitting and was informed that they suits would be ready in 3 weeks. It wasn’t until I did some googling later did I realize that I had fell for a scam.
So why so late on the update? A couple reasons:
1) My first 2 weeks in Bangkok were horrible. It was mostly due to the jet lag and bullshit at my job, but I just wanted to get away from the city and be in nature. I left Bangkok and spent roughly a month in Laos and the Thai Islands combined.
2) Honestly, I’m not very good at advocating for myself and being confrontational. I never heard back from the Suit factory, and was just going to leave it as is and move on from the experience. However some helpful coaxing from family members led me to go back to get them.
I contacted the Suit factor via WhatsApp today stating “This is my order number and I was told my suits would be ready in 3 weeks. It has been 2 months and I haven’t heard anything. I want to pickup my suits today.” To a little of my surprise, they responded within 10 minutes telling me they were ready and to stop by.
I arrived this afternoon and tried on the suits. The shirts and jackets fit fine, but the 2 pairs of pants were too tight. The tailor joked I had been eating out too much and drinking too much beer, which is true, but my current clothes still fit pretty well, and I went to Bumrungrad for a checkup and my weight was stable. On top of that I have been exercising fairly regularly on this 2 month trip. Nonetheless, the tailor seemed annoyed and we agreed for me to pickup on Tuesday.
As some (or most) of you predicted, the quality of the suits were pretty shit. But at least I’m getting something and not fully scammed so that’s a win in my eyes.
Tl;dr: Suits are real, quality is shit, pants were too tight, tailor blamed me for drinking too much beer.

In light of the recent SNSD dating exposes, This one, The Taeyeon and Baekhyun one, has been the most interesting, and actually has two sides to this story. This is also the first time that SM has officially endorsed a intra-SM couple. I will only focus on Taeyeon's side of the relationship. She is after all, the older of the couple, i'd assume she makes all the decisions in this relationship.
I urge you to at least read on, and understand and digest. I understand this sub is majority Americans, Canada and Europe. And therefore your views may differ from the views of Sones living in Korea. You may have the urge to immediately downvote this, but for the sake of healthy discussion, i plead you hold your ratings.
The responses towards this has been varying, some elated for Taeyeon having unlocked herself from the shackles of her dating ban, while others felt furious and dejected from the sense of betrayal, supposedly from Taeyeon's actions, and everything in-between.
I will first generalize, and say that I think most here would feel elated for Taeyeon. I do understand. After all, Taeyeon is only human, and has wants, needs, and desires. Immediately it would be apparent to you that this dating ban is a serious degradation to one's living standards. After all, why should anyone be able to invade into her personal life, let alone control what she can do? These feelings are understandable, she is no longer young, she was lonely and supposedly in depression. Baekhyun came along, i do not know the details, but Taeyeon fell for his care and concern. All these should run up to an happy ending with a loving couple, shouldn't it?
Yes? But the Koreans saw this situation differently. Vastly differently. In fact so different, the conclusions they pull from this is that anger and dejectedness are the proper reactions to this situation.
Again, i plead that you hear me out.
You might immediately want to ask a grieving Korean, why is he so bitter? why does he not wish his idol he so liked, so cared for, so supported by, that he wishes her to lie in a depressed state, faking a smile everyday, as compared to a genuinely happy Taeyeon? This can only be said to be a shallow interpretation of this situation.
As generalized in this post, The Koreans are not angered at her dating, nor with her choice of date, nor are they in despair that they were not chosen in favour of Baekhyun. I honestly believe anyone with a working brain, has already ejected the thought of actually having a chance with Taeyeon. The real problem lies within the criticism and belittling of fans.
Answer me this, /SNSD, have you ever been into events supporting SNSD physically, literally queuing in the snow just to fill up a studio to show your idols you are there for them? Arranging complicated post-release album buying algorithms such as to keep the longevity of those albums on charts? Have you donated physical money to keep one of their multitudes of fansites afloat? Have you personally sent food bentos to filming sets, in order to gain the respect and get into the good books of directors and film crew, such that your idol may have a easier time on set?

If that is not enough to show how crazy Sones are willing to express their dedication for SNSD, here is a little anecdote from me.
I have once attended an annual blood donation drive, organized by the local Sone gathering. This was inspired after SNSD's Love request show, and it has been extremely meaningful since. Mind you, the process itself was painful, the the feeling of being weak and tired for the rest of the week was a pain to bear in the modern stresses of my country. But all of that was meaningful; It was donated in the name of the one and only Kim Taeyeon. We even received a plaque that congratulates Kim Taeyeon of donating some 7 litres of blood for lifesaving.
It is hard to understand the feelings now held by the Koreans. Most have placed a large part of their lives into this, and for most of the masters of fansites, leaving SNSD is not an option. It is not farfetched to go beyond saying SNSD would not be here today without these Koreans. The dejectedness arises when this was leaked. It was prime evidence secret accounts exist. For all we know, SNSD have secret twitter accounts too. This would have been innocent, until Taeyeon started to upload cryptic images and hidden mushy nicknames for each other publicly. This would not have been a problem, if they kept it in their secret SNS, but surely Taeyeon would not be as silly as to post it publicly? Well, she did. Logically speculating why she would do something like comes up with 2 possibilities. One where she doesn't have, or wishes to be at the inconvenience of switching accounts everytime they wish to communicate. This is highly unlikely, as an class A idol, it would be highly unlike she would take such a risk as to keep her password always logged in, and kakao or Line would have better facilitated such needs. or, In the 2nd possibility, she enjoys the thrills of posting such messages, and having safely hinted time and time again of their relationship. Psychologist know all about this, and part of the adrenalin rush from death defying roller coaster rides. people are known to do this, well in roller coaster rides, who is to say Taeyeon isn't doing the same.
Regardless which situation lead her to do something like that, It is important to realize that nobody likes to be trapped between 2 lovers, and i can assure you its not a good feeling reading what is not meant for you, worse, interpreted as for you, but not. Some did not know this until the very end, which by then, was anger and sadness. Imagine sending something to Taeyeon, something you designed yourself, sweat and effort all put into having your idol appreciate it. She receives, and captions it with a ambiguous message. You accept its a response to your work, but finds out after some time that it isn't, instead for someone else, intentionally. You'd feel bitter too.
There were also posts regarding if TaeBaek was just a conspiracy to mislead people away from the Kris/yifan scandal. It would seem true, as Taeyeon is know to be a really smart leader. An open-roofed car, making out? After 4 yes together my partner broke up with me, saying he didn't feel the same about our relationship.
