2023.06.09 07:49 ta-kun1988 There's a lot going on. But where should we really be focusing our attention?

Here is what I've observed recently.
June 4th. I was working in my back yard in northern Virginia, near DC. I heard two distinct loud booms. The news stated it was two F-16 fighter jets given permission to go supersonic speed in rural areas where this type of flight isn't normally permitted. The excuse was to intercept a private Cessna which allegedly flew through restricted air space over the nation's Capitol. The local news included some sketchy details of which changed with every report.
More recently a very credible and qualified person is interviewed on national television about the US government hiding facts about extra terrestrial vehicles that have been recovered and reverse engineered.
There's this video about an alien craft landing in someone's back yard in Vegas.
There's 'wildfires' in Canada with smoke blowing down south. I first noticed the air quality in DC 4 days ago. When I looked down on the city I felt like I was in LA. Yesterday I'm driving my wife to work with the window down and we both noticed the air was smelling of burnt wood and some burnt plastic or something chemical smelling mixed in. My wife promptly searched for the reason and the two results were that of the Canadian wildfires and locally a junkyard accidentally caught fire.
Later that day I noticed a post here in Reddit from someone in new Jersey that claimed their local news blamed the air quality was from Canadian wildfires and a local metal scrapyard caught on fire.
This morning I looked into this and discovered a local scrapyard in North Carolina is also having an accidental fire situation at the same time.
There's also a war in Europe in which the U.S. has stake.
I am sure something big is going on and there's a literal smokescreen to keep us all confused and looking the wrong direction. Coincidences don't look like this. Please let me know if there's something else going on right now that I haven't heard yet.

Found in North Carolina, floating in industrial cleaner, seemed dead for 3 days then started moving.
Found it floating in what's essentially industrial grade oxiclean. It seemed very dead so I just scooped it up and tossed it in the trash bin. I saw it sitting in the trash for three days looking very dead, and then it started crawling around again. If it can survive like that, I'm not standing in it's way. I got it from the trash and put it outside. Coloration might be off, having sat in highly alkaline solution for at least a day.

2023.06.09 06:40 FlubbyStarfish Carolina is the superior version of No Body No Crime

If Carolina was on Folklore or Evermore, I know the song would be so much more appreciated within the framework of Folklorian mythology, than if it stayed a movie track.
I’m gonna be honest, I’ve listened to No Body No Crime maybe 10 times since Evermore’s release. It’s a fine song about a person who’s committed murder, but it’s not Taylor’s best song about a person who’s committed murder.
Carolina is so much more lyrical, clever, and poetic than No Body No Crime. And the fact that it was produced with only period-accurate instruments and recorded by Taylor in a single take, makes this song a standout in her discography. It fits right in line with songs like Cowboy Like Me and Ivy. If Carolina replaced No Body No Crime, it would transform Evermore as an album, and make it a completely skipless album for me.
Obviously we get a lot of context for the song because of the book it’s based on, but Taylor could easily add a brief description like she did for several songs in the album announcement: “A girl from the wilderness of North Carolina, whose fate intertwines with an alleged murder and the town who outcast her.”
TLDR: No Body No Crime is the glitter gel pen to Carolinas quill pen. And Evermore is such a quill pen album.

2023.06.09 06:19 Sensitive_Beach_2722 Course requirements for licensure in specific states

Hi everyone!
One of my professors mentioned that some states have odd educational requirements for licensure, requiring a second audiology course (in addition to the intro audiology class everyone takes). I’m having a really hard time finding info on this online. She mentioned New York and North Carolina having weird requirements.
If anyone has any information regarding any states that have educational requirements that deviate from ASHA standards, I would be so grateful! Thanks in advance!

2023.06.09 06:13 alegaltest How I got into listening to the Grateful Dead...

I remember getting From The Mars Hotel from the local library when I was in early high school. Then I got American Beauty. Then I got Live/Dead. I used to get DMB, Phish, and SCI CDR B&Ps but did not get into a lot of live Dead until the Internet Archive had shows. I found a list of concerts I went to from 2000-2013. Since then I have seen one Levi's Stadium Fare Thee Well type shows with Trey on guitar, 5 Dead and Company Shows, 2 Santana, and 1 Bob Dylan. Here is a link to a Bob Dylan show in Louisville I recorded recently. A Santana show in Evansville is on the same youtube account. There is a BB King June 2013 Evansville show I recorded on Sugarmegs and a 2013 Dark Star Orchestra Bloomington, Indiana show on archive.org (I used to work for the Internet Archive in SF in 2008.)

Time to protest! New legislation in North Carolina and South Carolina covers Male Genital Mutilation under Medicaid. As a victim, it disturbs me when human beings, especially children, are treated as meat to butcher. Our children have a right to choose! Infants cannot consent to tattoos, and yet permanent genital cutting is encouraged. Circumcision has been shown to have negative consequences for sexual function and urinary flow.
Legal =/= Moral! Be brave; take a stand against childhood genital mutilation in your state!

2023.06.09 05:25 QumranEssene Soundproofing Crosstrek?

Has anyone had any experience with soundproofing a Crosstrek? The road noise is pretty loud so wondering if soundproofing the flooring and doors would help? Would really appreciate finding out the expenses for DIY or having someone else do it?
Living in North Carolina it seems like every two lane and expressway is under construction so the road noise is even worse.
Just released a book on one of the state parks here and will be doing book signings all over the state so would like to listen to podcasts and tunes on the long drives to sell books.

2023.06.09 05:03 Agreeable-Prior-4514 [TOMT][MOVIE/TV][2003]Need help remembering a children's spy cartoon (Asian girl/blonde guy duo)

Hello,
I remember visiting family in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 9, 2003. We stayed for a couple of days so it may not be directly on August 9th that I saw the cartoon. I need help remembering a show I have been trying to recall on and off for the past couple of years. It could have been on the Disney channel, as I remember watching Cheetah Girls, but I ultimately don't remember if we switched channels. I searched Disney Channel archives for August 9th, and I've had no luck.
I remember a few details from the ending of the movie/show:
There were two spies who had to break into some lair in order to foil some evildoer's plans. They were both orphaned, from what I remember, one Asian teen girl with black hair and a blonde white teen boy. The girl had a gold watch that she kept on her at all times as that was the only momento she had left of her father. They had to make the difficult decision to sacrifice her dad's watch straps to ruin some sort of smelting machine (the machine had to maintain some sort of metal purity?) that was being used by the antagonist. They escape by carefully crawling over an ice-covered rivelake. As they look back across the ice they crossed, the girl notices the watch face is lying on the ice and insisted on going back over the ice to retrieve it as it was very special to her. The boy didn't want to go back as it was very dangerous but decided to go back for the watch face as it would make her happy. The ice breaks as he tries to retrieve the watch. The boy is later saved after falling through the ice. They are on a helicopter home and the girl thanks him for getting her watch back and laughs at his boxes because they were childish (had to take clothes off after falling into freezing water).
Thank you for helping me!

2023.06.09 05:03 NineInchNinjas 27 [M4F] North Carolina/Anywhere - Nerd looking for metalhead/goth gf

Hi! My name is David, and I'm a 27yo nerd in search of a woman who shares and understands my interests, needs, desires, etc. Someone who enjoys PC gaming, metal, reading, and other hobbies/interests I have, while also being a decent, patient, understanding, open-minded, affectionate, and funny person. Physical attraction has always been important to me, and I'd like my partner to be somewhere between average and chubby sized, regardless of height. Big chests are always a plus too! ;^)
I guess I should describe myself first by what my personality's like, which is mostly introverted and quiet unless given an opportunity to talk about my interests or important things. Even moreso in person, which is why I prefer a good while to talk online before meeting up. I'm very open to LDR because of this, too. I'm good at making puns but bad at telling jokes. I like to be verbally and physically affectionate, even though physical touch is sometimes uncomfortable for me. I'm not sure what else at the moment, though, it's always been hard to describe myself this way.
Instead of describing my interests in the order that I enjoy them, I'm going to do it in reverse this time. So, the first is reading, and it's something I do when I feel like I can put the mental energy towards doing it. Not that I don't like it, but not every author writes books the same way, and it can be taxing to read through a chapter that feels too long. But, my favorite book series is Drew Karpyshyn's Mass Effect novels, and I've always enjoyed reading them. All three feature a lot of the same characters, but have different overall plots that connect together. I love the games and I love the books just as much, and they're decent modern sci-fi novels. 2001: A Space Odyssey is also a favorite, I like the mystery and hard sci-fi of that novel, plus it's an easy book to read. I'm not all that into fantasy books, but I like the story of The Hobbit to enjoy reading it, despite the long chapters and the winding way that Tolkien writes things. And I'm currently reading Neuromancer by William Gibson, which is mysterious and interesting so far. Aside from your regular novels, I enjoy graphic novels as well, mostly The Crow, Hard Boiled, Mass Effect Complete Comics, and Watchmen.
Musically, I'm very much a fan of classic rock, grunge, industrial, nu metal, power metal, and a few other genres that I can't really define. I really enjoy Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Disturbed, Audioslave, Unleash The Archers, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden more than anything, and I have entire physical discographies of some of them. I like a little bit of Arch Enemy, Pale Waves, Hot Milk, The Offspring, Victorius, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and quite a few video game soundtracks. I don't have a lot of band merch besides some patches and Iron Maiden figurines (they came with deluxe edition box sets), but I want to eventually.
The game genres that I mostly like to play are retro PC first-person shooters, RPGs, and open-world games, with a few indie-type games (like Terraria and Stardew). Mostly singleplayer. Doom, Quake, DUSK, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Mass Effect, Fallout New Vegas, Disco Elysium, System Shock (currently playing through the original 1st time), stuff like that. I like FPS games that are mostly fair with combat and RPGs with good roleplay mechanics, and I lean towards sci-fi and post apocalyptic. I don't have a strong laptop to play games with, so I've learned to appreciate games with older graphics and gameplay, plus some have nostalgia for me (I still have the old Steam copies of GTA III to San Andreas that were delisted in 2021). Being a PC gamer, I also have a huge backlog.
That's pretty much everything I wanted to say, so let me know if you want to talk! Brownie points for selfies and questions will be rewarded!
