Many many years ago when I was still just a PFY and not the grumpy BOFH I am now, I was working for a large MSP on a reasonable-sized call centre contract. We were doing tech support for one of the first internet ISPs (one with dialup scripts and everything). They had a big global presence, supported in far off exotic locations (Aus/NZ) by MSP staff.
The team was all young, a few years out of school and so while the work was work, there was fantastic comradery and late-night Half-Life sessions to sustain us to the next step in our careers.
The company was very a great taste of soul-sucking cubicle hell with 8 layers of management between us lowly serfs and anyone near the top. It was straight out of Office Space. It was basic tech support, for an ISP in a fast downward spiral, in a large and very drab low-rise office building.
We all knew this was a gateway to bigger and better things, and while there was no support from the middle to upper management, we had reasonable immediate bosses. We did our shifts and had enough fun to work towards the next job.
Somewhere along this road, upper management (who we rarely saw), had some inspiration to try and make the office a little bit less office space and more hip and cool, as was the style of the first Internet Revolution (the late 90s early 2000s).
Others had funky lounges or bean bags and crazy bright colours on the walls. Google even bought a monorail carriage as a meeting room in their Sydney office.
For us, our execs decided the solution was to hang 3 or 4 Motivation PostersTM around the office.
"If we don't take care of the customers, somebody else will". Yep those ones.
I mean if that doesn't inspire you to support a dying charged-by-the-minute dialup ISP in the beginnings of Cable and ADSL in Australia then I don't know what else will!
Arriving at the office to see this pitiful attempt at inspiration, we all collectively went "meh" and resumed the daily job of giving out dial-in numbers for different cities. The most popular ones we could do without looking them up (no need to switch from Half-life window mid-call). Life went on.
One day shortly afterwards, I arrived around 9, to discover an unusual air of quiet scandal hovering around the office. The word was quietly being passed around... senior managers are PISSED....very senior managers have been involved. THEY are NOT happy.
Why? What happened? Did a contract get cancelled? Was there a major customer complaint? How could so much attention be drawn on our little part of this big company?
As our call centre contracted stated we started at 7am, far earlier than most of the building staff. Even then only a handful of people. One especially cheeky monkey had decided at this wee hour of the morning that he would turn one of the motivational posters......upside down!
The mild amusement from his colleagues was NOT shared by the management team, who felt this was a direct affront to their valiant and incredible efforts at inspiring the workforce.
Meetings dragged on all morning. Colleagues called in as witnesses. A LOT of people had to try not to laugh over what clearly was a VERY SERIOUS issue.
We were informed we were obviously in the wrong for even attempting a mild desecration of this scared company relic, or even finding the situation amusing in any way.
Luckily the rambunctious lad who caused irreparable damage to the company's reputation internally was allowed by the good graces of our betters to remain employed.
To the relief of our immediate managers, nobody ever messed with the motivational posters again.

So... well, I don't even know where to begin. I am 25 and I am currently low-contact with both my parents, especially my mother. I haven't visited home in months and I dread the day I will have to.
There are lots of things that disturb me about my mother, but I want to specifically talk about the relationship she has with animals and I am looking forward to your opinion. My mother has 11 animals in total in her house: 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 parrots, 2 turtles and 1 fish. Keep in mind that she lives in a first floor apartment with no garden or whatsoever. She has never let her dogs out, apart from yearly vet visits. She always claimed that letting them out will make them dirty so she just decided not to. She also never potty-trained them, which means that they pee and defecate all over the house, everyday. They will also pee on the sofa sometimes, and though she somehow cleans you can clearly smell the stench if you sit down. She also never trained the cats and parrots to get along. This is why another parrot of hers was killed by one of the cats. The other two are visibly stressed since the cats try and attack them on daily basis; they pluck their own feathers, have scars because of the attacks, and one of them almost lost his eye. The litter-box her cats use is located in my brother's bedroom. Yes, this means that he wakes up in a room that smells of cat urine. The fish is also kept in a very small bowl. She posted a picture online and someone pointed out that a small bowl isn't adequate and she threw a fit.
As I am telling you this, I know that this is not normal. But, the abused part of me still thinks I'm over-exhaggerating, that I'm just sensitive and that I have no right to judge her. Please tell me what you think.
Also, I have no animal service to speak to in the city where she lives, trust me I would if there was any possibility. I couldn't even speak to someone about my situation when I was a child, let alone her animals' situation.

As a disclaimer; I should mention for this story I will be using the real first names of the people involved because I don't believe giving a first name basis will dox or infringe the privacy of anybody mentioned in this story.
This took place back around the fall of 2020 around late October. One night three of my friends Nate, Charles, Jordan and I decided to meet up at a local park around midnight just located within my friend Jordan's neighborhood to have one of our relentless hot-boxing smoke sessions.
Since this was our senior year of high-school and with the pandemic and political animosity going on at the time; like many other kids we were basically stuck at home for the most part attending online classes and barely getting out of our houses since most public places were closed.
Because of this . . We all ended up smoking weed to kill time and basically have a little bit of fun, so having these "hotbox" sessions wasn't anything new to us since we've been smoking since August of that same year. I recently stopped smoking altogether due to unrelated issues but I digress.
Back to the story.
About an hour after our smoke session the four of us reluctantly agreed to start driving out of the park and around town for a while with my friend Jordan being the driver, Nate in the front passenger seat with Charles and I in the back. Stupid, I know.
20 minutes into our drive being the intoxicated idiots that we were, having the windows cracked. We decided to put on Dead Space ambience music just for shits and giggles as we were making our way out of a residential area and onto a two-way main road that led out into the rural part of town.
To give you an idea of the scenery; we were driving through one of those semi-rural suburban neighborhoods you’d find out in the middle of nowhere. For those of you who live in the rural south or the midwest, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Since it was completely pitch black and we were practically in the middle of nowhere bumping creepy ambient music while approaching a dimly lit intersection, it began to give off an eerie liminal vibe that was kinda fitting for the season.
As we approached the intersection my mind began to green out and race about the unknown beyond the darkness that enshrined our surroundings.
"Heh it'd be really fucking terrifying if we came across a humanoid like the wendigo or something" I said to myself.
At that point we had reached the intersection and since I was looking to my left I immediately noticed a figure emerging out of the pitch black.
As the figure got under the street light, I realized that what I was looking at was a woman in pigtails dressed in a really classy, clean outfit with a tan blouse and high heels.
I instinctively sobered up and took this as a bad sign from all the stories I’ve heard and just knew something was wrong because who the hell would be out at 1 A.M. in a classy outfit out in the middle of nowhere
In a matter of seconds my worst fear came to life as this woman began to approach the car and I really didn't want any of us taking any chances with this woman.
I started to freak out and told my buddy:
"Jordan . . There's a woman coming at us . . . Turn the car NOW!"
Our friend Nate noticed a second figure dressed in all black slowly emerge from the rear end of the car just about 15 feet away by our right side slowly approaching.
This only instilled more fear in all of us about the situation that was happening before us.
Charles instantly caught on and saw what we were seeing as this woman practically began running at us screaming
"HEY . . HELP ME PLEASE . . STOP"
Charles then began aggressively slapping Jordan's shoulder in a panic Shouting at my friend:
"JORDAN BUDDY TURN THE FUCKING CAR".
Jordan, still zooted of the weed, was confused for a split second before he saw that this woman and the man in black were mere FEET from the car.
In a panic He yelled:
“AH SHIT . . NAH BRO!” as he peeled the car to the right and in the opposite direction from where this woman and man came running from.
We all sobered up a bit being creeped out and confused as to what just happened but laughed it off because of how intoxicated we all still were
Needless to say we still question why the woman was running at us screaming and what the intentions were from the man dressed in all black behind the car.
My morbid curiosity gets the better of me sometimes and I’d like some theories as to what could’ve happened to all 4 of us during that night.

My mouse is flickering/disappearing and feels like it’s attracted to a certain location and keeps teleporting to this particular part of the screen.
The flickering itself doesn’t happen until a few seconds after opening and turning my computer on and logging in.
I can click when I touch the screen itself, and the flickering will temporarily stop. However, I can click on certain things like the adress bar and the software icons (like Chrome), but I can’t click on things like YouTube videos.
I’ve gone to Task Manager to end task for the explorer.exe but to no avail. I’m really at a loss here, and would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

2023.06.09 09:52 sobran_types_stuff Diablo 4 is weakest of Diablo games
There are few negative traits in gameplay of Diablo 4 that significantly lowers quality of the game in my opinion.
1) Lack of content – Im speaking not about the total amount of content in the game(the world is huge, no argue there), but the fact that the vast majority of it is basically copy pasted. If you found a new enemy you gona find it again in 20 nearby dungeons, and those dungeons are , usually pretty much the same in terms of things that happen in them-you just push mob wave after mob wave, with 1-2 special mobs and in the end you fight with VERY healthy special mob, which, in some rare instances may have unique attack\mechanic, but usually don’t, and it leads to the feeling that you did not just cleared 5 different dungeons but one same dungeon 5 times in a row. I think game would benefited greatly if it had half the amount of dungeons , half the size but more unique instead.
2) Leveling system – I think that leveling system is weaker than, for example, of Diablo 2. Lack of ability to pick your secondary stats like dex\str but more importantly auto leveling-which kills your sense of progress. You fought hordes of mobs, leveled up, closed the game, came back and suddenly you deal less damage than you did before log out, to those same mobs in this same location. This is not good when you level up only to find out that mob that you killed in one shot before is now must be killed in 2 shots. Some folks told me just to maxlevel-but then you hit the very same problem but from the other side-game becomes too easy, since you already max level, with good gear and there is almost nothing game can throw at you that you cant deal with, and quite easily deal with. You never feel strong in diablo either not strong enough or so strong that it does not matter. Generally speaking I think auto leveling system can be described only as lazy design.
3) Grind – as a result of first 2 points game is too grindy. I understand that grind is important part of every Diablo game, but It never felt so SLUGGISH in any other Diablo game. Game goes at the same speed all the time, there are no places that you can go in and it felt better\worse suited for one class or another, it’s the same job, all the time, with the same reward of a chance to get better gear. Sometimes game hardens up and throws tough unique opponent that provides challenge but it happens extremely rare. Events also break the vicious cycle of blandness but only for first locations-before you saw all what they can provide and they become another occasional grind.
4) Dailies and battlepass – bane of videogames.
I talk with some people about this and heard mixed opinions. Some people agree with me, some treated those things above not as negative but positive traits. And then I finaly got it – most of the people who agree with me had little or none interest with mmorpg games, and most of the people who did not usually had big investment and love in mmorpg game, specifically with WoW. Diablo 4 as game feels like its designed by and for mmorpg gamers ,not arpg gamers which resulted in those things above and some debatable design choices, like lackluster of wasd movement for example and overall blandness- game is not about things to explore but things to farm. End result: 10% of good main quest and some original dungeons and rest 90% of the game is grind for the sake of grind. Many may say that that what Diablo series is about, and those traits are part of series in general, but personaly I cant say that I play Diablo games for grind, and even if put it that way, as I said before, grind in any Diablo game never felt so sluggish as in Diablo 4 and those negative traits where not as accented. Don’t get me wrong, I generally enjoy Diablo 4, it’s a good game and a good rpg but for me it feels like weakest of Diablo games(excluding diablo immortal, because diablo immortal does no exist in my world of unicorns and rainbows), and personally , im sure, that if issues that where listed before where adressed Diablo 4 would be much better game, not just ANOTHER Diablo game, but BEST Diablo game.

If you found a new enemy you gona find it again in 20 nearby dungeons, and those dungeons are , usually pretty much the same in terms of things that happen in them-you just push mob wave after mob wave, with 1-2 special mobs and in the end you fight with VERY healthy special mob, which, in some rare instances may have unique attack\mechanic, but usually don’t, and it leads to the feeling that you did not just cleared 5 different dungeons but one same dungeon 5 times in a row. I think game would benefited greatly if it had half the amount of dungeons , half the size but more unique instead.
2) Leveling system – I think that leveling system is weaker than, for example, of Diablo 2. Lack of ability to pick your secondary stats like dex\str but more importantly auto leveling-which kills your sense of progress. You fought hordes of mobs, leveled up, closed the game, came back and suddenly you deal less damage than you did before log out, to those same mobs in this same location. This is not good when you level up only to find out that mob that you killed in one shot before is now must be killed in 2 shots. Some folks told me just to maxlevel-but then you hit the very same problem but from the other side-game becomes too easy, since you already max level, with good gear and there is almost nothing game can throw at you that you cant deal with, and quite easily deal with. You never feel strong in diablo either not strong enough or so strong that it does not matter. Generally speaking I think auto leveling system can be described only as lazy design.
3) Grind – as a result of first 2 points game is too grindy. I understand that grind is important part of every Diablo game, but It never felt so SLUGGISH in any other Diablo game. Game goes at the same speed all the time, there are no places that you can go in and it felt better\worse suited for one class or another, it’s the same job, all the time, with the same reward of a chance to get better gear. Sometimes game hardens up and throws tough unique opponent that provides challenge but it happens extremely rare. Events also break the vicious cycle of blandness but only for first locations-before you saw all what they can provide and they become another occasional grind.
4) Dailies and battlepass – bane of videogames.
I talk with some people about this and heard mixed opinions. Some people agree with me, some treated those things above not as negative but positive traits. And then I finaly got it – most of the people who agree with me had little or none interest with mmorpg games, and most of the people who did not usually had big investment and love in mmorpg game, specifically with WoW. Diablo 4 as game feels like its designed by and for mmorpg gamers ,not arpg gamers which resulted in those things above and some debatable design choices, like lackluster of wasd movement for example and overall blandness- game is not about things to explore but things to farm. End result: 10% of good main quest and some original dungeons and rest 90% of the game is grind for the sake of grind. Many may say that that what Diablo series is about, and those traits are part of series in general, but personaly I cant say that I play Diablo games for grind, and even if put it that way, as I said before, grind in any Diablo game never felt so sluggish as in Diablo 4 and those negative traits where not as accented. Don’t get me wrong, I generally enjoy Diablo 4, it’s a good game and a good rpg but for me it feels like weakest of Diablo games(excluding diablo immortal, because diablo immortal does no exist in my world of unicorns and rainbows), and personally , im sure, that if issues that where listed before where adressed Diablo 4 would be much better game, not just ANOTHER Diablo game, but BEST Diablo game.

Eu tenho estado mentalmente muito doente, com crises depresivas e ansiosas muito intensas, as vezes com crises de pânico.
Eu sou super contra se medicar por qualquer coisa e mesmo fazendo terapia há anos, me recusava a ir ao psiquiatra. Mas agora eu não tenho me reconhecido mais e, por vezes, não sinto que tenho controle sobre os meus pensamentos ou minhas ações.
Apesar disso, eu tento fazer o máximo que consigo para não afetar os outros. Eu tô triste porque ontem meus avós me ligaram num momento ruim e eu acabei falando grossa "era isso?? Vou dormir agora" e eles sempre são carinhosos comigo. Ou então meu namorado que saiu pra uma festa com os amigos do trabalho e eu fiquei pensando que ele ia me trair, aí me permiti ligar uma vez perguntando que horas ele iria chegar, depois fiquei me distraindo vendo vídeo no YouTube e arrumando a geladeira (e mesmo com horas de esforço, fiz só metade). Então eu sei que minhas atitudes as vezes machucam os outros, mas não acho que tenho sido tóxica. Mas sei que a preocupação comigo tem sido cansativa, já que meu namorado e a minha família tem me acompanhado aos médicos, me lembrado de tomar os remédios e me ajudado em quase todas as tarefas (comer, limpar, estudar, etc).
Outro dia acordei em crise de ansiedade e sentia que eu tinha que sair da cidade urgentemente. Que se eu me mudasse pra algum lugar com custo de vida mais barato e pessoas mais amigáveis do que as das metrópole eu ia ser mais feliz e eu tinha acabado de ter uma experiência muito legal no rio de janeiro. Então mandei uma mensagem pra minha melhor amiga que é de lá, pedindo pra ela me ajudar a achar um aluguel. Ela achou a impulsividade estranha e mandou mensagem pro meu namorado. Nisso eu briguei com meu namorado pq acusei ele de que era culpa dele que minha vida parada (isso não é verdade e não sei porque fiz isso) e sai pra me acalmar. Tomei um pastel e uma Skol Beats, em menos de 30 minutos eu já tava de volta em casa. Quando eu voltei ele quis ver o que tinha no meu celular e que ele me dava o dele, então trocamos. Nisso eu vi minha melhor amiga falando pra ele que ele era muito jovem pra lidar com meus problemas, pra ele pensar bem, e que 90% dos homens já teriam ido embora e que eu sou difícil de lidar.
Eu fiquei muito triste com isso, mas não falei nada pra ela. Não sei o que eu faço. Em partes eu tô me sentindo um estorvo e que ela está certa, que eu deveria pedir pra ele ir embora (eu moro sozinha e ele está morando comigo temporariamente até eu melhorar) e tentar me resolver mais sozinha ou com a minha família. Mas por outro lado, eu não quero falar com ela mais e tô muito magoada, porque quando ela estava mal eu fiquei do lado dela e fiz o que eu pude pra tentar ajudar. Nós conhecemos eu estava boa e ela estava mal, não sei quantas horas já fiquei com ela no telefone ensinando sobre a minha área, incentivando ela entrar na faculdade, arrumando indicação de emprego, ouvindo os desabafos dela. E agora que eu tô mal, me sinto traída. Mas tô com medo de estar sendo vitimista e tendo auto pena, tenho sentido muito isso atualmente, e ela estar certa. Enquanto não sei o que pensar, ela tá no vácuo.

it had been something that felt off for so long, something i had so much guilt for doubting, where i suppressed my gut feeling, and i lost trust in myself.i finally mustered the courage to first bring up to another of her best friends that things were not adding up. i was scared they’d tell her ‘lol wtf ur friend thinks ur a liar about something so serious’but, they agreed.
eventually, on another day, i suggested potential elements of borderline personality disorder in her, and this opened the gates to a bunch of little things that didn’t feel quite right but i still couldn’t say for sure. never seen the meds (when it was tablet chemo), never seen her sick, still drinking every weekend, declined my friend to see diagnosis for better understanding of the ovarian cancer, the fact the ambulance picks her up at night but her mum doesn’t even know she has it, she tells the hospital she needs to leave in the morning so she can see me that day, have never met the friends who took her to the hospital when the immense pain started (which i have yet to see again, 9 months later), refusal of every doctor in the state to get surgery as she mentioned she may want a child, debt and selling all properties to cover medical costs, much more that i probably don’t even remember honestly - these could all be things that were real. some of them might be in the event she does have it. but i am 95% sure this isn’t the case, and if not, im 100% sure the situation is extremely exaggerated and i have caught lies;…..
the thing that irked me upon this realisation is that when she was homeless for being outed (i have met her family, so lovely and made her a birthday party i went to following this, her sister is so generous, i thought ‘well they must be incredible actors pretending to be nice’ which again is possible). i used to drain myself to make sure she was safe, had somewhere to go and she’d refuse to come to my home. (the reason it was draining was because of the refusal and back and forth and saying stuff like ‘its ok ill just freeze and get assaulted, its comfy under the bridge???’ like in a half joking but not funny way. one night, after this refusal, i threw a jacket into the train carriage she got on as it left and started to cry. i talked to my dad because i was so upset, and finally told someone, my dad, that she had cancer. (she was not open about it at this point). dad, rationally, said ok, just check her location. this is not something that crosses my mind as i had trust, and don’t like to push boundaries of privacy in sharing that. anyway, she was already at home. and every time i checked, was still there. now, that’s fine if you text or later say ‘don’t worry, im home safe, all is good’. but that is not what happened; she continuously brought up homelessness from there as something scary and horrible, living under a bridge in the rain etc.so that was in my mind for sure.
anyway, flash forward to the last couple weeks, her friend and i hung out individually (rare) and talked. they said that she sent a photo of her getting the chemo. it was blood coming out of her arm. they questioned this; ‘aren’t they supposed to be putting stuff in?’ she said it was just a blood sample. they checked where she was on location, maybe not knowing it was shared via messages just recently before for a different case of meeting for dinner or something — and she was actually at a blood bank donation place. as soon as the friend told me this, dots were connected.
just days before, i checked her location when she said ‘chemo pumping into my veins, should be done in 30’ (we were hanging out later that afternoon). she was also at a blood bank, or the park near it maybe, this one different location from the last when the friend saw it. i checked thoroughly to see if any hospitals or anything were nearby. nope. this blood donation bank does not do samples, and they do not take donations from people with cancer (obv).
ANYWAY back to the friends perspective, they then received a photo of the bandage they give you. the friend responded something like ‘ohh cute, those are the ones they give you at the blood donation company’. then, they get a notification ‘___ has stopped sharing her location with you’. wtf?
my confidence in knowing whether it was a lie or not fell just a week before i was told this, because she fainted (for the first time I’ve seen) at a concert we went to. that put me back in the spiral. i think that could be from lack of eating or, dare i say it, possible faked too. but it sure seemed real and i really can’t say. but from hearing this story from the friend, i was quite confident she was lying.
consuming for my mental health, i started to obsessively check on the 2 days a week she claimed to get treatment. one of them, didn’t go at all, other, ended up at ANOTHER blood donation bank. a third different one. no hospital nearby. and this caused me to have a panic attack. which i never have. it triggered me so bad. the friend sure enough said later, she said to them they were at chemo that day. if you’re wondering why im getting less of this info, it may be because i started distancing myself from that part of the friendship as a defence mechanism, where previously i fed into wanting to make sure she’s taking her meds and stuff. like i said making sure she had somewhere to live killed me because no help was often taken (she did still stay here and there) and i still felt responsible. and also, she told me to my face ‘if i keep doing what im doing now, the doctors say i only have 8 months to live’ which made me cry in front of her and again spiral into making sure she was taking meds. anyway, i couldn’t do all that anymore.
also last week, the two of them were hanging out ( i can’t bring myself to do so atm ). she said that she suddenly felt sick, while they were in the change room. the friend said ‘oh shit no worries let me drive u to the hospital’. she refused, and literally escaped like running away while they were in the change room. again, they checked where they were and they were at a different friends house (the one she currently stays at and says is the one curing her cancer depression). but she was texting them like she was in the hospital !!!!!!!
it’s endless crazy lies at this point. does she think im stupid?im well aware it is most likely a mental illness and she is doing this for attention and to maybe keep people from leaving in a way. but i can’t be the one to open the flood gates from all the people she’s told by bringing it up. i just want to ghost, but i haven’t, because it raises flags… but i can’t bear to see her and pretend like nothing is wrong. nope. i don’t think its my responsibility to change her when i have already been chipped away and broken from this whole thing? but at the same time of course i want her to have help and i have so much love for her. what if the lies get worse - self harm? which reminds me she has had cuts on her leg she said was from her mum. it might be true but I CANT TRUST HER at the end of the day so??? GAG i hate this and the fact I’ve mentally struggled with this aspect of the friendship for like a year and now it’s caught up to me actually hurts so much. going to 2nd counselling session in 2 weeks

Ciao! Sono un 24enne torinese di fronte a un bivio dovuto alla necessità del dover andare a vivere da solo. Lavoro per il 70% in smart e sono in una famiglia numerosa che vive in pochissimi mq, la situazione sta diventando ingestibile e sta creando non poche discussioni. Attualmente ho una RAL di 28k, che netti equivalgono a circa 1550 euro al mese. Ad ottobre dovrei avere un aumento a 30k, che dovrebbero diventare circa 1600. Secondo voi, con questo stipendio, riuscirei a gestire un affitto di 650 euro? A quanto ammontano in media le spese mensili (bollette ecc..)? Da parte ho circa 25k, vorrei comunque provare a rimanere in positivo, con l'ottica di aprire un mutuo nei prossimi anni. Per le spese riguardanti il cibo ho i ticket restaurant, mentre per la parte di svago non sono uno che mensilmente spende oltre i 150 euro. Non ho finanziamenti su auto o altro (con 30 euro di benzina al mese me la cavo).

2023.06.09 09:46 Volmaaral Driver Verifier BSOD Loop, Minidump Analysis Help Needed
As said above, I ran the Driver Verifier using the instructions found here, and upon restarting to begin the process, it BSOD crashed every time, with it mentioning the driver verifier found an issue (I forget the actual code, didn't think to screenshot in time). I tried to boot up in Safe mode, but right after the second crash, it went to automatic repair, failed, and then had to system restore.
I ran DISM, sfc scannow, and even ran chkdsk on my OS SSD to ensure it was all good. SFC found something corrupted and fixed that, ran the verifier again to see if that was the issue... and it looped all over again. I do have the minidump files, both look pretty much the same. As I'm getting out of my depth, I figured it would be best to ask assistance at this point. I got WinDbg, read the .dmp files, and I'm stuck at this point with a wall of code. it mentions a couple things I thought were possibly the issue (rsKernelEngine and smss.exe) but both were deep in the system files, and I don't want to mess with those.
The reason I did all this was I started experiencing hard freezing and shutdowns on my pc, on occasion, typically while playing a somewhat intensive game (Warhammer III and Bannerlord were the two games to have had this happen, so far). It'd freeze for a second, then the screen would go mostly black with a few leftover pixels (I could barely make out my money count still there from Warhammer III for a second), and then power off, restart, and everything was fine. Even Event Viewer didn't show anything critical... except for a BugCheck error, which made the computer reboot (no idea how unhealthy this sort of reboot is for my pc).

This PC is getting on in age, and I've put it through some serious gaming punishment lately (I wasn't able to access my PS5 for a few months). I'm hoping this isn't a sign it's failing, but if it is, I want to figure out the extent of the damage, and either mitigate the amount I use the pc to extend it's life (and lay off the more intensive games for awhile), or replace a part if it's something hardware based. I did have temperature issues for awhile, typically caused by Warhammer III, that I'm still in the process of alleviating.
Anyway, one thing led to another, and here's the dump that I'm stuck on. Can anyone make heads or tails of all this?

I ran DISM, sfc scannow, and even ran chkdsk on my OS SSD to ensure it was all good. SFC found something corrupted and fixed that, ran the verifier again to see if that was the issue... and it looped all over again. I do have the minidump files, both look pretty much the same. As I'm getting out of my depth, I figured it would be best to ask assistance at this point. I got WinDbg, read the .dmp files, and I'm stuck at this point with a wall of code. it mentions a couple things I thought were possibly the issue (rsKernelEngine and smss.exe) but both were deep in the system files, and I don't want to mess with those.
The reason I did all this was I started experiencing hard freezing and shutdowns on my pc, on occasion, typically while playing a somewhat intensive game (Warhammer III and Bannerlord were the two games to have had this happen, so far). It'd freeze for a second, then the screen would go mostly black with a few leftover pixels (I could barely make out my money count still there from Warhammer III for a second), and then power off, restart, and everything was fine. Even Event Viewer didn't show anything critical... except for a BugCheck error, which made the computer reboot (no idea how unhealthy this sort of reboot is for my pc).

After this, I went down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out what's going on. This PC is getting on in age, and I've put it through some serious gaming punishment lately (I wasn't able to access my PS5 for a few months). I'm hoping this isn't a sign it's failing, but if it is, I want to figure out the extent of the damage, and either mitigate the amount I use the pc to extend it's life (and lay off the more intensive games for awhile), or replace a part if it's something hardware based. I did have temperature issues for awhile, typically caused by Warhammer III, that I'm still in the process of alleviating.
Anyway, one thing led to another, and here's the dump that I'm stuck on. Can anyone make heads or tails of all this?

It can be done with a group in 1 minute and rewards you with a Golden Egg which you can sell to the merchant for 20,000z. Use whenever you are short on money. This is also the best quest to use if you want to trigger merchant sales quickly and roll on the lottery. Using your silk bind/aerial moves to deliver mount damage (indicated by a blue cloud background on the damage inflicted) is a good tactic to learn and master. Arekkz Gaming's Monster Riding Tutorial video explains this well. You can also scout the area where you mount the monster and bump him into special areas on the map that will deal extra damage. High Rank Quests An Armorcharm and Powercharm will now be available to purchase from the two item merchants. These work as permanent stat increases as long as you have them in your Item Pouch. When you reach HR7, you will eventually be able to upgrade these charms into Armortalon and Powertalon. These stack and you may repurchase Armorcharm and Powercharm and hold all four items in your Item Pouch. Decorations will unlock from the Smithy and the Melding Pot will unlock from the item merchants. This would be a good time to study the skills you have available in conjunction with your armor skills and start creating defensive/offensive load outs based on what you are up against. For talisman crafting via the Melding Pot, craft out the desired skill you need and use accordingly. Once you have your talisman of choice, always roll with Melding - Wisp of Mystery and Melding - Rebirth (unlocks last on a higher HR). They will cost more materials to craft, but will also have better chances of a Rarity 7 Talisman with more skills and better decoration slots. Prepare status resistances/immunities depending on the monsters you are up against and build up defense, elemental defense and even add elemental attack against them as well. Take note that elemental attack increases on skills only increases an existing element on weapons (or elemental ammo for bowguns) and can not create an element from a non-elemental weapon source. Armorskin and Demondrug and their corresponding Mega version are items consumed once and will last until you faint or complete the quest. Invest in them as soon as you have the zenny to afford them. You may also choose to deploy the meowcenaries to fight a Khezu to increase your item farm. Master Rank Quests and Sunbreak Content With Sunbreak comes a whole new base map and two new locations to explore. Like the base game, there are a number of trophies that involve you interacting with the townsfolk and the goods and services they have to offer. Crown Hunting 🏆 Mini Crown Plaque and 🏆 Gold Crown Plaque will most likely be the last trophies you will get in the game as these are very grindy to obtain. These entail slaying or capturing the smallest and largest versions of each monster, awarding you a gold crown on your Hunter's Notes. An alternative grouped view of all your crowns can be found in OPT -> Multiplayer -> Guild Cards -> View -> L1 for Hunting Log. Unlike MH World, Rise does not include a crown notification in the points reward section after a hunt. You will have to check your Hunter Notes manually. You do get a prompt of "Monster Size Updated" right after the kill or capture though as your best indicator of a possible crown. Crown Hunting Tips and Drop Rates explained by Luke Albigés of TrueAchievements Efficient Strategy You will want to clear out all the crowns you can possibly obtain from the quests with the 100% chance or boosted crown rate quests. For everything else, learn how to crown snipe to save time and not waste too much time on normal sized targets. If your are sure that your target monster is not a crown size, abort your quest and start a new one. Take note that you need to capture/kill 10 monsters of each type for their respective monster scroll to progress on your 🏆 Sturdy Padlock so anything close to a perceived small or large crown would be worth the kill. The Sunbreak Expansion and Master Rank buffs up the crown monsters appearance rate to as high as 10% for large and 6% for minis. You are best saving the crown hunt for last as you have to tackle Anomaly Investigations for the Sunbreak 🏆 Bahari's Hand Wound Birdie, which entails you earning and spending 3000 Investigation Coins as rewards for these type of quests along with clearing out every single Master Rank quest for the 🏆 Record of Utmost Valor - Master and clearing out 1-4 star anomaly quests for the 🏆 Painting - Crimson Nightmare. There are a total of 7 1-star anomaly quests to unlock and 8 quests for 2-4 stars. There is a good chance that you will be earning majority of these crowns along your progression towards these three trophies with minimal crown cleanup. The difference between KO/Stun and Trip is explained will in this article. Note that KO and Stun status are the same (in game and articles call it one or the other so this can be confusing) but Trip status is different. Critical Boost at level 1 raises damage dealt by critical hits by 5%. Your critical hits are already at a base amplified damage of 25% (not mentioned in-game). This could be deceiving due to the in-game skill definition. Palamutes and Palicos you bring on the hunt increase your ease and efficiency and are best slotted with the best gear for your playstyle. Game8 has an excellent buddy guide that discusses end game builds. Use the Basic behavior if you are running a melee focused buddy and Follow if you are using a ranged buddy. On solo hunts, don't let the common combo of 1 Palico and 1 Palamute mold you to run with that as there are several builds that utilize 2 Palicos or 2 Palamutes in one hunt. For example, you may want to use a double Palamute with C Jelly Travel Bag X weapon on the Best Equipment For Sunbreak (Ranged)segment. Accompanied with the Palamute Silkbinder, this build can provide excellent monster control. Ordering Motley Mixes in the canteen nets you dango tickets as a reward. Claim it from the chef after some orders and use the tickets with hopping skewers on your harder hunts. Latent Power skill is triggered by an internal timer upon monster encounter and attack animations and is explained here on Fextralife's wiki. Auto-shoutouts are useful for your party and even yourself. You can program these auto shoutouts via OPT -> Multiplayer -> Chat Menu -> Triangle and click on the field under Text to program what you want to shout-out, choose the box under speech timing to choose the condition. These conditions aren't fixed and you have more to choose from. The most useful ones are the auto shoutouts for "When you set a trap" and "When a monster is limping" where the monster enters the blue icon state and is capturable if it is not an elder, apex or afflicted monster. Weapon Specific Notes Light Bowgun Light Bowgun Basic Moves and Ammo Types credit to Phemeto Pay attention to the color of your reticle. An orange reticle tells you that your ammo type is in its ideal range and will deal its intended damage. A yellow reticle means your shots will hit, but will be significantly weaker. The Fanning Vault Silkbind skill is best used with your Wyvernblast special ammo. Press circle while you are directly under the monster to plant a bomb directly on it. You will be replacing this with the Switch Skill Fanning Maneuver for end game builds. Ammo Details can be found by going to Items and Equipment (opt button) -> Equipment Info -> Ammo Details (square) You will normally run out of your full magazine of your most desired ammo. To minimize returning to camp, bring the materials you need to craft that ammo and set it on your radial menu. Also, avoid bringing the ammo type you never use to keep your ammo menu as decluttered as possible for efficient ammo switching. It is encouraged to bind the ammo you use and their craft commands in your radial menu as well. Recoil is the delay between firing shots (different from Reload delay). Lower recoil = Faster Attack Speed Deviation is the drift of the bullets when you fire. If you have a weapon with deviation, it will travel center for a medium distance then swerve to the L or R depending on the strength of the deviation. Targeting "No deviation" is ideal. Decorations can be crafted to reduce Reload, Recoil and Deviation. Light Bowgun Weapon & Armor Skills Bombardier skill does not work with any ammos, including sticky, cluster, or wyvernblast. Normal/Rapid Up skill improves Normal Ammo damage by 5%/10%/20% and stacks with the skill Rapid Fire Up which enhances rapid fire damage also by 5%/10%/20% Great Sword Recommended Switch Skills are Tackle, Rage Slash (RS), and Adamant Charged Slash (ACS). I’ve been with Cam for a few months now. When we met, it was like sparks were flying. It was an instant connection and we would always say we met at the right time. We both were getting out of our party stage and buckling down on more important aspects of our lives.
3 weeks ago we had an amazing weekend. We opened up so much to each other and just stayed inside the house enjoying our presence. He told me he wouldn’t be able to see me during the week bc of work and i understood. We work opposite schedules and he lives far away so i didn’t ask to see him at all during the week. 1st weekend came and he told me he couldn’t see me bc he had to help his friend with his mom. His friend mom had cancer so again, no trying to convince him to come. Memorial Day he only texted me good morning and then when he got off work but was silent. The next day, he came into my town because he had to give his brother something (his brother lives in my town) and stopped by. He told me that over the weekend he went to say his final goodbyes to his friends mom and she passed away on Memorial Day. He started crying and i comforted him. I only saw him for maybe 20 minutes before he said he had to go to see his friend. We kissed bye and he said he would see me soon.
That week he had a tooth removal procedure and the funeral but Saturday told me he had his bag packed to come over. But suddenly he tells me his mom is freaking out on him and he can’t come. He lives with his parents and i can tell they have a big say on what he can and can’t do. I mean i get it, one we’re both Hispanic so that’s a whole different story when it comes to parents and 2. You live under their roof, you follow their rules no matter how old you are.
I got annoyed bc since Wednesday, he was telling me he would come see me everyday but then something would happen that he couldn’t but i never showed annoyance towards it. I didn’t put any blame on him, i just said i was sad bc i kept getting my hopes up to then feel let down but i understand it’s been a crazy + tough 2 weeks so to just not tell me that he’s coming until he knows for sure. The comment he made after i said that just made me feel like his parents had something to do with it. He told me that i do live far so he understands why his parents be tripping out on him. Then he said to just give him a good day to drive his truck down here and he’s sorry, that he’s not trying to bail on me. When he comes to see me, he always drives the “family car” which is a newer car and never his truck bc it’s old and he’s nervous to drive it so far. He drove it here once and told me he had to fill it up twice and it was almost $100. For him to tell me he needs to find a good day to bring his truck here just tells me his parents don’t want him driving to my city so they probably aren’t letting him use the family car knowing he can’t take the truck to see me. That would be $100 everytime for just a few hours. He had also been a little distant, he was taking longer to respond and wasn’t being as expressive, he would always send me snaps and voice notes but stopped and just being closed off.
The next couple days we were okay, but then Monday night, things just started to feel off. On Tuesday our communication was basically none and he just didn’t seem to be all there. Wednesday i asked if we could talk and just said i noticed he was being distant and if he still wanted to pursue something with me. That I’m wondering if there was anything he wasn’t telling me and i just want to be able to support him in any way possible but feel like I’m in the dark. I’ve just had this intuition feeling that part of his behavior had to do with his parents and wanted to see if he would tell me.
It took him 6 hours to respond and he told me I it’s been a difficult few weeks and has been dealing with everything. That i haven’t done anything wrong and been great and he doesn’t want me to feel like I’m on the back burner but he needs to change some things about himself and thinks it’s best if he stays to himself. He would feel bad dragging me along and I’ve done nothing but show him love. It’s just not good timing and he doesn’t want to lie and string me along.
He caught me off guard. He did this once, about 2 weeks in, he got in trouble with his dad because we were on the phone at 4am and he tried to run away but we talked about it and he admitted he was scared but that we were in this together. He says i deserve a lot and he wants to give it to me so he needs to focus on him so he can focus on us. Since that conversation, he didn’t try to run away until now.
This time feel like that but only this time, he didn’t engage with what i said back. The only part he responded too was one of me saying that i needed my game console back as family is visiting and i needed it to distract the little kids. He told me he would give it to my friend who lives in the same city as him. That to me also just showed signs that he either can’t or isn’t allowed to come to my city. But then I said why couldn’t he bring it, he took it so he needs to bring it back and he said he works doubles the next few days but will stop by on Tuesday.
I just said okay and we haven’t talked since then. That was earlier today and idk. Something inside of me just says this isn’t over. Who knows if he’ll come on Tuesday but i don’t plan on reaching back out to him until then. I’m not going to post on social media and try to make it seem like i want him to notice me. We have each others locations and he hasn’t turned his off for me either.
I know Aquarius has a tendency of running away when things start getting serious and with all the stuff he’s had going on, i just think he feels overwhelmed. I still also feel like his parents are playing a heavy role. The thing about cam, he won’t tell me things over text, only in person. Like with his friends mom, i just thought he was helping his friend out and it wasn’t until i saw him that i found out it was to say his last goodbye.
When he comes over, I’m not sure how to act. I want him to come inside but i don’t want to push him too hard. I know once we’re in person, he’ll most likely open up. I think the no communication until then is a good idea but it’s the seeing him in person that i don’t know how to approach. Is this just him pushing away because he stressed? What is my best course of action right now. I just don’t believe this is a case of losing feelings, this is something deeper than that.

2023.06.09 09:29 bangbangboomboom19 The Chronological Telling of Amnesia: The Bunker’s Story for Those Too *Scared* to Play It
I never replay games. I’m more of a one and done it kind of guy, but something about ATB’s gameplay and story compelled me to play it not once, not twice, but four times at the time of writing. It certainly helps that the game is short (although I think the universal praise of The Outer Wilds demonstrates that this isn’t a bad thing).
My latest playthrough clocked in at ~35 minutes at the time of writing in order to get the Toot Sweet achievement. Ironically, this exact pursuit of achievements led me to get the Librarian achievement and, ultimately, finally read all the story notes chronologically.
Notwithstanding, ATB is a nauseatingly haunting game on harder difficulties. The monster is deadly, the resources are scarce, the tone is grim, and the darkness encompasses it all. Above all of this, the story is worth telling and I posit that the game’s genre, coupled with the Amnesia brand being notoriously terrifying if PewDewPie is to be believed, will prevent a lot of people from playing it. That’s such a shame.
Without further obfuscation, I want to encourage you to play the game; immerse yourself in its world and discover its truth for yourself. Your appreciation for the story will only compound the more time you spend stalking the halls of the unnamed bunker it takes place in.

ATB’s story begins before the player ever takes control of the protagonist, Henri Clemont, a Soldier in the French Army at the Battle of Pozieres during World War I.

On 2 April, 1916, Henri’s embattled unit receives orders to dig their bunker deeper so that their chain of command can laud it as a symbol of French patriotism and eventual victory in the war.

Eight days later, on 10 April, Henri’s compatriot, Toussaint Beaufoy, pens a poem We Whirl the World that reflects on the grim events of the war and foreshadows the events of the game.
With the dig well underway, the other soldiers begin to experience haunting symptoms. Notably, Beaufoy, who witnesses some horror on the night of 5 May, that shatters his psyche. He refuses to discuss what he witnessed with anybody, yet he revels in it; “I want to go back to that place. I want to feel that way. I want the violence and the ecstasy and the pitch-black darkness.”

A week later (9 May), Noyer is presented with archaic texts uncovered during the digging. He begins to read them and discovers the texts are not of typical Roman writings. Rather, the texts are religiously significant repeating the phrase “to cross into darkness and beyond.”
These texts originated from a people that believed they found the key to immortality, a blessing bestowed upon them from some “other world… dominated by darkness… ruled by something…” These damned texts went on to describe this world as “full of spirits, monsters and that the air there was endlessly alive with cries of torment and the sickly rattle of souls near death.”
The tunnels that the men were digging were used by this ancient people as a portal to this “pagan hell.”
This manifested in our world as the need for the followers to commit sickening acts that appealed to the primal instincts of humanity; “blood orgies, of sadistic spirits, of the awful things these men and women would do to each other in worship of darkness” and a magical liquid that would grant the believer’s immortality in darkness.
Noyer enters the tunnels sometime on 14 May, and discovers more of the cursed history of the tunnels. “The Romans used these tunnels to hold sadistic bacchanals, great festivals of cruel combat, torture and worse... held in an arena over a great pit.” His command writes him off as paranoid, and Noyer resolves to enter the tunnels.
On 25 May, Noyer is recovered after screaming in the damp excavation sight until his vocal cords were annihilated – alive but utterly terrified.
June 1916 - Farber - Am I Out of Touch? No, It’s the Soldiers Who Are Wrong.
Noyer warns his brother-in-arms about the texts and truth of the ruins they are excavating. As the truth and panic spread, the Command begins punishing those who speak of the more sinister presence that is permeating the halls of the bunker.
Throughout the month of May, the soldiers are gripped with a waking terror that seeps into their dreams, all the while having to fight a war notorious for its brutality. Noyer writes, “we’re stuck between the Germans in front of us, high command behind us, and some other horrible force that seems to lurk in shadows all around us. I fear we are now truly beyond God’s reach.”
Rumors of the truth that Noyer uncovered begin to spread amongst the men. Despite taking the assertions of the malevolent presence seriously, the command chooses to contain the panic through force.
Incensed by Noyer’s ominous warnings, a rebellion is formed on 28 May with a soldier only known as “Farber” at its helm. The mission is simple: contain the evil of the tunnels by sabotaging the digging efforts with a cave in. Farber notes that each of the five recruits is exceptionally eager to end the waking nightmare, particularly Beaufoy.
Their efforts are successful and the soldiers experience a brief abatement from the ever-present fear, only to be discovered and subsequently tortured by their Commanding Officers, Reynard and Delpy. None are spared the persecution, save for Beaufoy, who is presumed to have been killed in the blast that undoes the dig. The last thing any other soldier saw of him was Beaufoy telling them he had “other work to do,” whilst pointing to his own eyes.
Despite the ordeal, no participant reveals Farber as the mastermind, and Farber is forever indebted to the brotherhood.
The officers of the unit do four things in the wake of this unthinkable act of insubordination: (1) abandon the tunnel, (2) punish the conspirators, (3) send the remaining men on dangerous combat patrols and (4) order more wine. No lesson learned, no warning heed.
Of minor note, on the evening of 30 June, after one such combat patrol, a German prisoner is captured. Small recompense for the men routinely thrown into the meat grinder of enemy machine guns and command tribunals.

Another such raid is ordered on 8 July, and Henri has a plan to not go. Henri and his best friend, Augustin Lambert, decide that the winner of a game of chance will not have to risk their life this evening and the other will go in their friend’s place. Henri cheats, rationalizing it as a harmless prank, condemning Lambert to endure the battlefield once more. Henri is sure Lambert will return, unscathed, and cannot wait to see the look on his face when he learns what Henri did.
Only, Lambert doesn’t return. As the dusk of 8 July turns into dawn, Henri is wrought with guilt. He resolves to recover his friend. It is here, that the player finally takes control of the protagonist.
Henri discovers Lambert at the bottom of a pit. Not a crater from artillery, a borderline incomprehensibly large depression. Henri makes his way down and renders aid to his battered, but alive, compatriot. Henri gathers water from the pit, and nurses his friend before they attempt to escape.
July 1916 – Augustin Lambert – The Nightmare Is Only Beginning
Lambert, having dodged death, reflects on the events of his ill-fated patrol. His loss of hope at the bottom of the inescapable pit, and the angelic reprieve he received from Henri. He notes how the water Henri nursed him with “was cool and crisp, with a strange, sweet taste. Never has water felt more nourishing than that, administered by a dear friend’s hand.”
Despite surviving, Lambert’s survival is dampened by the loss of a toy he bought for his son – the toy he believes to be in the pit where he almost lost his life.
Lambert grows stronger by the day. However, with Lambert’s return, so do the haunts that plagued his fellow Soldiers. Scratching at the walls and an overt ghostly howling emanates throughout the halls at night.
July 1916 – Stéphane Joubert – Oh Yeah, The Murders.
The first to fall Reynard on 15 July. Hardly a loss after his treatment of the soldiers, but certainly a catalyst for even further distrust.
Stéphane Joubert, another officer, reflects on the evening of the murder in his journal. He had heard a commotion in the hallway, but assumed it be Reynard drunk on his secret stash of wine. No one was aware anything was wrong until they heard the screaming. He is concerned for the harshness in which his fellow officers treat the men, particularly in the wake of this death.
The remaining officers interrogate the men, after all, a murderer was so clearly amongst them.
Paranoia grips the men, who are the prime suspects due to their contempt for Reynard. But the brutality and sadistic nature of the murder was beyond the pale? The autopsy read:
But it did not forget. It returned ten minutes later and pulled Farber into the wall, “screaming… praying for salvation.”
The men note something familiar about the Beast as it continues to hunt them; like it knows who they are.
The officers abandon the men, escaping and blowing the entrance to the bunker behind them – condemning the soldiers to evisceration by an unkillable force. Joubert, the only bastion of morality amongst the officers, is among the escapees all the same He leaves the men one chance at salvation.
The game begins with Henri awakening in the hospital bed from comatose state. He doesn’t remember the past, but that’s why we have spent about 2400 words going over that. The gameplay of Amnesia is self-explanatory – gather resources, avoid the monster, escape.
In order to accomplish this goal Henri has several sub objectives that, for convenience, we’ll cover in two parts: Get the Dynamite and Get the Detonation Handle. This isn’t a walk through, every playthrough of the game is different, but you learn the fates of several characters through extrapolating on the relationship between the notes and the game itself. Play the game and get stalked by the monster for the horror experience.
Get the Dynamite (Located in the Armory):
· Located in the armory, Henri first needs to retrieve a code to unlock said armory. The code, you recall, Joubert promised to broadcast to the soldiers. After solving the daisy chain issue in the Soldier’s Quarters and finding the requisite key, Henri makes his way to the communication room. Joubert is true to his word, he is still broadcasting the code. Henri can now retrieve the dynamite.
Get the Detonator Handle (Located in the Tunnels):
· First order of business is to recover a ratchet wrench that allows access into the Prisoner Control room in the Prison section of the bunker. The wrench is in Foreman Stafford’s locker, but you’ll have to find the code. Henri discovers that Stafford made his way to the Bunker’s Pillbox as a means of escape. However, the Pillbox is locked with the only key being in the bunker’s Chapel. Henri makes his way to the chapel to uncover an unholy display of twisted bodies – an achievement pops up revealing this is the Beast’s nest. In the confessional, Henri discovers the priest (otherwise insignificant to the story) nailed to the wall. He recovers the key and returns to the Pillbox. At the top, Stafford is there, a bullet through the eye from an enemy sniper – a grim reminder that you’re still fighting a war.
· The wrench is to help gain access to the Captured German Prisoner’s cell, left abandoned; Geneva Convention be damned. What we want in the cell is a pair of bolt cutters that had been used to torture the prisoner. Opening his cell alerts the monster, whom promptly murders the poor prisoner (although there is a slightly happier disposition in which you retrieve the bolt cutters before the Beast gets to him – are you quick enough to save his life? Do you even want to?)
· The bolt cutters grant access to the chained-shut tunnels. The haunted tunnels. The Pagan Hell. Ghostly apparitions due exist down here skulking the fog teasing you with the evil you’ve read so much about. Impossible rock formations alongside Roman statues and columns, this place is truly unearthly. But then you hear a voice, the first voice you’ve heard since the prisoner you couldn’t understand died. “We whirl the world…” Its Beaufoy, whom has gouged his own eyes out and roams the fog with a shotgun and homicidal intent – still more work to do. He will kill you, so you must put your fellow soldier down. Is it better this way? At least that shotgun is yours now *finger guns*.
· If you explore a little more, after finding the detonator handle, you’ll find a small tunnel that leads to the pit. The pit the game began in, the pit with the small rabbit toy Lambert lost. Shit, what happened to Lambert?
You retreat to the beginning of the game. Hook up the dynamite and blow it. Make your way to escape. You find yourself at a grand arena above a bottomless pit. With the Beast standing between you and salvation. Is there really a boss battle in this game? Winning it reveals the final truth.
Lambert is the monster. Your best friend, corrupted by the water you nursed into him to save his life. Presenting the toy to him prior to the final battle when he tries to kill you causes him to take it, run to his fucked-up chapel nest, and place it on a pedestal. There is still humanity there, and that’s why he recognized those he killed.
But this is a grand arena over a great pit, and losers go into the pit. Use the toy to hold the monster up on the destructible bridges and, while he plays with it, blast the bridge itself – pulling the literal floor out from underneath him – eternal darkness awaits.
Now flee, make your way to salvation. You see sunlight. You breach the rocks and roll down a slope into a pit of dead comrades. At least you’re free of that beast.
As you bask in the light you hear “SCHNELL, SCHNELL” and searchlights beginning to scan where you just fell from.
Fuck, you’re still in a war.
A grotesquely unsettling story of overcoming shitty circumstances and still losing. What’s that like an 8? Probably an 8.

My latest playthrough clocked in at ~35 minutes at the time of writing in order to get the Toot Sweet achievement. Ironically, this exact pursuit of achievements led me to get the Librarian achievement and, ultimately, finally read all the story notes chronologically.
Notwithstanding, ATB is a nauseatingly haunting game on harder difficulties. The monster is deadly, the resources are scarce, the tone is grim, and the darkness encompasses it all. Above all of this, the story is worth telling and I posit that the game’s genre, coupled with the Amnesia brand being notoriously terrifying if PewDewPie is to be believed, will prevent a lot of people from playing it. That’s such a shame.
Without further obfuscation, I want to encourage you to play the game; immerse yourself in its world and discover its truth for yourself. Your appreciation for the story will only compound the more time you spend stalking the halls of the unnamed bunker it takes place in.

Patrol Report – 10 July 1916Henri remains comatose for ten(?) days.
Odd occurrences last night. Sdt. Lambert, thought dead after his patrol on the 8th, returned to the barracks in fine health. He carried with him Sdt. Clément – severely wounded from an explosion.
Lambert reports the following:
-That midway through his patrol on the 8th he fell into a deep crater and was unable to escape.
-Clément, his close friend, snuck out after him last night, located him in the crater, and carried him out.
-They were spotted and in the ensuing attack, Clément was injured by an explosion. It fell on Lambert to carry him back.
Very odd that Lambert was neither injured from the fall nor the explosion AND that he ended up saving the man who came to save him.
But battlefield luck is an odd thing. In every life, fate’s winds blow erratic.
Judging by Lambert’s description, the crater he fell into seems to have been located very close to the Roman tunnels we unearthed. It may have been a result of work down there.
Recommend a future patrol to investigate and make sure we have not opened a backdoor into our own bunker.
